  • I've been enjoying the X-Pro2 so far and this video is an update with some thoughts about using it so far. I have some questions for people who have used both the X-Pro2 and X-Pro3.

    I think the X-Pro series offers a kind of emotional experience that is not entirely rational. I love them. I have the X-Pro1 and had the X-E3 and I just preferred picking up the X-Pro1 for shooting. I also primarily have been shooting with similar manual focus lenses and it is sometimes annoying to use on X-Pro1 with its weaker screens and weaker manual focus assist options. But still - despite the X-E3 being almost the exact same layout, but smaller and lighter, I loved carrying the X-Pro1 and finally replaced the X-E3 with an X-Pro2. But when I was shopping, I knew I could get an X-T1 or 2 or X-H1 for less than an X-Pro2. But the X-Pro “just feels right” as a camera for me. It’s an intangible quality. I like the OVF and like the “electronic rangefinder” option but I still use the EVF more than I care to admit. Still - emotionally, I like that the OVF is there. I was seriously considering going for the X-Pro3 but find myself drawn to the wider angle lenses of 16/18mm and I’m disappointed the OVF in X-Pro3 no longer goes that wide. I also got a good deal and bundled lens with the used X-Pro2 I got and generally was happy with the X-trans III experience already so I decided to stay there. I know I pay a premium for that emotional connection, but that emotional connection translates to an enjoyment of shooting and carrying the camera more often and that is hard to quantify when just comparing prices and specs. I think it’s ok to admit “I just like the feel of shooting an X-Pro and don’t mind paying a little more for that feeling.” For premium pricing for emotional connections, any X-Pro is still light years cheaper than a Leica M (or even newcomer Pixii)

      I love your openness and honesty with your reasonings for being an X-Pro user. Honestly, I can completely relate. I had never tried one before this camera. It was an itch I had to scratch. I had to finally give it a shot. It is a breath of fresh air compared to all my other cameras that's for sure. Even when using the EVF it still feels closer to an analog experience than any of my other cameras. You brought up a good point about the X-Pro3 and the OVF in it not having frame lines for wider lenses. These are things I need to learn about the different models. Right now the higher resolution of the X-Pro3 is really enticing to me. I'll probably have to at least try it at some point. Thank you so much for watching and for your comment!

    I sold my X-Pro2 to buy the X-Pr03. The build was not as good, the back screen a nightmare and flipping it down always felt brittle. I then sold it and bought the X-Pro2 again. An expensive lesson learnt. The OVF was better on the X-Pro2 but the EVF was superior on the X-Pro3. I think the X-Pro2 may be the best built and most satisfying of all the Fuji’s. I’ve owned the X-T2, 3, and 4. The only camera for me close to the X-Pro2 is the X-H1 which i still have and love.

    Hi Craig, I purchased the XPro 3 a month ago. I knew very well what I was getting into in regards to the rear lcd conspiracy. I love it, I really enjoy using the camera and really dont miss the rear screen and never use it when composing. I chose the XPro 3 as I want something elegant, portable, not an attention grabber when in public. The XPro 3 nailed it for me. I have many other cameras I use for work and for many years I stopped taking them with me when going on holidays as they are too bulky and obvious. The XPro 3 is my personal camera, it will never ever be used for work. Its my daily documenting and travel camera. Love it.

    I take my Fujifilm X Pro-2 with me everywhere. It and or my Leica M3 are my usual EDC. I so far have only three lenses for my X Pro-2. The ttArtisans 35mm F1.4 sonnar manual focus. Fujifilm 23mm WR F2 r, and I adapt my old Minolta 45mm f2.8. I rely on both the OVF and the EVF. With manual focus lenses I use both but really like using the OVF with the pop-up EVF for focusing. That is what sets it apart from other Fujifilm models. I use the 23mm pretty evenly with both viewfinders too. Mainly use the EVF with the 23mm in low light situations or when doing reportage work. I am a freelance photojournalist and sometimes I bring the Xpro-2 on assignments. I am a horses for courses camera guy so when doing that work I'm shooting my Canons as my main camera.

    I have an X-Pro 3 coming from an XE-3. The XE-3 has the same sensor and processor as the X-Pro 2. For jpeg shooters such as myself, the 3 has a significant improvement over the 2 in that you can save custom white balance and highlight shadow settings for each of the 7 jpg presets slots. The 2 limits you to 3 custom settings that you can share over the 7 slots.

    I just found my new favorite channel. Really like how eclectic and thoughtful your content is. I plan on buying the X-H1 partly based on your X-H1 video from last year and currently own the X-Pro 2, (I’ve owned the X-Pro 1 , XT2, XT3, XE3, X100F which I’ve either sold or traded) . I have never been tempted to get the X-Pro 3 because the hidden back screen and incremental IQ “improvement” which is in many cases purely subjective. The X-Pro 2 does an excellent job as a photographer’s camera so why spend more money when you don’t need to. Btw, for photography mostly, would you recommended getting the optional grip for the X-H1? Thanks for your content. Keep on keeping on! 😊

    • @CraigBergonzoni
      @CraigBergonzoni  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for the compliment! It means a lot to hear from people who connect with my videos. So to answer your question about the X-H1 vertical grip, unless you're shooting sports or wildlife (or video) it's not needed. Another reason you may want it though is to add some extra heft and weight, which some people like. I have the grip but unless I'm shooting video I rarely use. Sometimes if I'm using a large lens then the grip is nice to help balance the weight of the camera & lens. Thanks again for watching and for your support! It's greatly appreciated.

    Hey there! So the OVF on the Xpro 2 is definitely better since it has 2 different views. Xpro 3 has just one in this case. I kept my Xpro 2 and didnt upgrade because I like the D-Pad and require the OVF since I shoot a variety of Fujinon lenses, but for your case if you are to shoot manual focus lenses perhaps not getting an Xpro 3 is best, maybe look at the XE4 if you still prefer the rangefinder style body. For me the OVF is key.

    I'm using the X-Pro2 and the X-T3 primarily for still photography. Your discussion of OVF vs. EVF is exactly the same things I have experienced. My OVF technique continues to evolve with use. As you observed, my X-T3 EVF experience is much better than the X-Pro2. I also like the layout of the X-Pro2 better. As a right-eyed shooter, I also love not having my nose stuck in the middle of the rear screen. For me, there is something really satisfying about shooting with the X-Pro2. I find myself reaching for it first whenever I'm looking to shoot something. Whether it's the aesthetics of the "rangefinderesque" experience with the OVF or the nostalgia I sometimes feel for actually using a rangefinder, or just the excellent design of the camera itself, I would have trouble saying. Perhaps it is also that using it is a little more challenging to me than the X-T3. All that said, I didn't see enough of a difference with it and the X-Pro3 to go to that model. But I am watching the new Fuji announcements with great interest to see if an X-Pro4 and the X-T5 might be 40 megapixel workhorses.

    Enjoyed your video as always Craig, your thought process is I'm sure similar to what all us dedicated Fuji shooters go through.
    For what it's worth I've got a graphite X-Pro 2 which is the premium Fuji in my line-up, it just oozes quality in form and function. My simple question to myself when considering newer models is do the incremental feature and ergonomic changes merit the incremental price change to me. As a used camera buyer that rule of thumb has easily eliminated the current generation x100, xe & x-pro models given what I paid for the previous gen.models and being a bit sceptical of the value of the changes in the current models for my needs. In all honesty when the next generation x-pro 4 is released I'd probably see a second x-pro 2 in black for the long-term as being an even better purchase if it caused a bit more of a price drop.
    What we all like and value in Fuji cameras is such a personal thing, I'm just glad they offer us the choice of the different lines and continue to develop them to at least offer us features to consider even if we decide they are not for us.

    Hi Craig! I'm currently shooting a used FujifilmX-H1 and an X-E3. My X-H1 is an outstanding tool for my Macro and Landscape/Cityscape shooting with my XF60MM Macro f2.4, XF16mm f2.8 & XF16-80MM f4 lenses. My X-E3 is my EDC and is used primarily for shooting BNW and Street Photography with the Sigma 30mm F1.4 or Fujifilm's XF27MM f2.8. The problem for me is the X-E3 is just too cramped for my big hands...I can shoot with it and have enjoyed the results it gets me. I'm considering replacing it with a used X-Pro2 as my EDC for it's slightly larger size, ergonomics and in-hand feel. I'd really appreciate hearing your views on this!

And of course since it has the same sensor as the X-H1 and X-E3 you know what to expect in terms of image quality. I truly enjoy the shooting experience with it. I think it's a good choice to replace your X-E3. And if you end up don't liking it you can probably resell it for the same or similar price as what you buy it for. The demand for these is still high. I kinda regret that I had to sell my X-Pro2 to buy the Pro3. As others have mentioned the OVF of Pro2 is more versatile, but if you stay on the 23-50mm range you won't miss it so much. The EVF is way better in the Pro3 then the old one. I also miss the D-Pad on the pro2 because that was so many options to have functions configured to your liking, but anyways, Fujifilm seems to have abandoned this configuration for all the range. I don't know... I also really liked the X-Trans III sensor, specially for black and white it has something to it, but X-Trans IV is no doubt superior, particularly in the way jpeg's render out, plus you get Classic Negative which is very nice to experiment with film simulation wise. I had the chance to get a good deal on the Dura black finish one, and man, this is such a sexy and beautiful piece of art as a camera, I really love it. Sometimes I just pull it out just to look at it 😀. My X-Pro2 was second-hand already so that's why I finally went for the Pro-3, not sure I wouldn't have skipped this one had I bought the X-pro2 new when it got out, I mean these are such expensive cameras after all. Anyways, I hope this helps a little, but you can't go wrong even if you should decide to skip and wait for the Pro4 (which isn't round the corner any time soon if you want my opinion) P.S: Being able to charge directly the battery with the usb C cable directly on the camera is a big plus for me also.

    I think the biggest difference between the 2 and 3 is the lack of dual magnification for the OVF in the 3, so it's really more focused on using the 23mm and 35mm lenses. I'm not bothered by that, since those are my favorite focus lengths. I think the viewfinder on the 3 is bigger than the 2, and the EVF of the 3 is certainly better and bigger than the 2. For me, the biggest difference between the 3 and 2 is the ability to save custom white balance settings for each preset slot, so I essentially treat the 3 like one of my film rangefinders with 6 "films" that I can switch between.
    For me, one of the biggest benefits of using the OVF is being able to see things enter the frame. I also find that it makes me focus more on composition because I can't see things like depth of field.

    • @HenriPierreChavaz
      @HenriPierreChavaz ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree.
      The best OVF is the one of X-Pro2 which has 2 levels of magnification.
      The one of the X-Pro1 also has the 2 levels but it was more difficult , at least for me, to compose with it as the frame was not so much following the focal distance.
      The other ones X100x or X-Pro3 have only a fixed level of magnification.
      I still wonder why Fujifilm has handicapped the X-Pro3, which would otherwise be perfect with its folding screen, by going back to a single magnification level. As much as it was understandable for the X100 series with their fixed lens, if we we admit to disregard the TCL-X100, WCL-X100 accessories, it is completely incomprehensible on an interchangeable lens camera.

    • @run794
      @run794 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@HenriPierreChavaz from what I understand, it seems that the OLED evf assembly was bigger than the older lcd one, and that precluded the use of the diopter assembly for the dial magnification OVF. The X-Pro 3 is an even more idiosyncratic camera than the 2, but that's why I love it.
