As someone who used to main Wiggler back in 7, I never expected them to return in Mario Kart again, let alone in the DLC.

I say it was. Back then it was a way too wild pick from a roster which was missing essentials like (yes) Waluigi and others. But now that we have all the characters we could imagine, Wiggler is a more than welcome inclusion
Wiggler was my favorite character in Mario Kart 7. One of my favorite things about Wiggler returning has to do an admittedly small but fun detail. Because everyone in Mario Kart 8 holds items in their hands, Wiggler can use his extra arms to hold an use items while still keeping 2 hands on the steering wheel. It's just a small detail that I thought added a lot of character to Wiggler.
If people think that Wiggler was a waste of a slot, they should’ve been grateful they hadn’t ended up with Pink Gold Peach. Wiggler is a great and underrated character, I’m personally glad he’s back.
Yeah, plus Metal Mario *cough, Mario in gray paint* was everybody’s favorite. A metal clone. OUT OF ANYTHING. IN THIS GAME. WHY WEREN'T HONEY QUEEN OR WIGGLER THE FUNKY KONGS???

Why am I teary-eyed?! I didn’t know Wiggler was so unwanted! They were always good in my book, and I’m glad for their return! 🥹
In context.
The 7 roster includes 3 new characters. HQ, Laki2, and our precious boi here. However, people were salty because Waluigi wasn’t in, and blamed Honey Queen and Wiggler. Thankfully not Lakitu. But, out of all the characters, they loved Metal Mario, who’s literally just Mario but with gray paint poured on him. He looked better in 64. People loved him for stupid reasons other than his great stats. That’s how he became the most obsessed character in the game, leaving the 2 in the dark, with Lakitu getting SOME shine.
But what’s worse is people were asshurt over Waluigi's exclusion from this game, and they blamed those 2. Sorry for the swear. Anyway, Wiggler took some hits, but Honey Queen took more. And they were the 2 most despised characters ever to exist in Mario Kart.
However.
In 8 deluxe, we had the booster course pass (I was surprised Diddy wasn’t the first DLC character). We had Birdo, and now Petey, Kamek, and our little friend, who I’ll talk about, since he’s the main part of this subject.
Somehow, people saw Pink Gold Peach and Baby Rosalina and thought Wiggler wasn’t trash anymore. And when the time came, he shined. Like a glimmer of hope. I love Wiggler, let’s be real, we all do. And people mained him instead of Waluigi Wiggler (which was hilarious).
BUT WAIT.
If people hated Wiggler for "replacing" Waluigi, why do they suddenly push Waluigi aside for Wiggler? Do people realize the mistake that they made? It’s honestly bullcrap to me how people hated Wiggler JUST BECAUSE Waluigi wasn’t in, and NOW they love Wiggler and shove Waluigi. You can never understand Mario Kart fans, well, 75% of em.
In conclusion, f_(k Metal Mario. Honey Queen and Wiggler are supreme (so are you, Lakitu)! You probably knew this context, but I felt like explaining in case you didn’t. Thanks for reading.
P.S. | If you ever see me defending Honey Queen, I'm not a simp. I just want people to know that she’s at least better than Metal Mario, the oddest inclusion in Mario Kart.
Wiggler was definitely my main back in 7, and even though I would have like someone like King Bob-omb or Diddy in that slot, it’s still nice to see him back

I think it's sad some of the unlockables in MK7 got so much heat because they were unique additions to the roster. Except for Metal Mario, but he is the only clone character in that game so I let him slide.

I never understood why people thought Wiggler was a "waste of a slot". Wiggler is a semi-iconic Mario enemy that has been playable a couple times before, so him being included in Mario Kart 7 isn't all too bizarre. I think Waluigi missing in 7 is partially to blame for these claims: Waluigi is a popular character, so of course disgruntled fans will blame other characters they didn't ask for as the reason why he got cut. Honey Queen is often the target for this, but Wiggler takes some of the hits too: honestly, neither really deserve the hate.
Honestly, Wiggler was one of my favorite newcomers from 7, alongside Lakitu, and I'm glad he's back in 8 Deluxe alongside Petey Piranha (whom fans have dearly missed since Double Dash) and Kamek (who almost made it to Mario Kart twice but got shot down both times). Honestly, even with his absence felt in Tour when nearly every other veteran has returned there, it's great to know that Nintendo hasn't forgotten about him, after all.
Now bring 1-Up Girl Pauline to 8 Deluxe too, she deserves it. And bring Diddy with her; DK's a bit lonely without his buddy.

The hate for wiggler back in the mk7 days was a classic example of Mario kart community hypocrisy.
People hated on wiggler because "he was a waste of a slot" but were obsessed with metal Mario, one of the most bland and uninspired characters to ever be added. Heck even honey queen was a better character. I felt I was the only person who liked wiggler and adored his goofy appearance while driving a kart!

Honestly, I was smiling like a moron after seeing Wiggler’s reveal that direct, and kept getting that goofy smile whenever I thought about it for the rest of that day. I was hoping but honestly wasn’t expecting him being added. Kamek was a bonus, partly because I was wanting him too, but also because I was only expecting 2 characters this wave.
Looking back at MK7 footage of him, I remembered that I wanted him as a main but was a bit annoyed by the fact that MK7 didn’t animate hands (so his top two were always open and his bottom two always closed). MK8 will finally fix that issue.
My main from 7 has returned!!!

Wiggler wasn’t wanted alongside Honey Queen was because of Waluigi babies who always wanna rant on character selections, and because of other Twitterlike children who never want to be happy, some are adults that just don’t really have a good taste in characters. @@R_wir3 I'm obviously assuming. They aren't confirmed yet, but they are 1) massively popular and 2) every youtuber on earth has said they are the ones getting in. Either of them could be swapped out with Diddy Kong, but either way, those three are "Fan Favorites" and "Everyone wants them in the game."
