Troy, how MK8D lag works unlike MKT lag is that if "their" screen your vehicle hits their trail, you will get punished as the server tells your console: "oh, a player lost its protection because Troy got trailed and now it has no protection, punish Troy", because there is a chance that you can red them and get some advantage. Sometimes you will find that in "their" screen you are going faster (and in fact, in your screen they are going slower), that's the manifestation they have lag and you don't. Thus, in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is less frustating frontrunning, because if you lost your protection because you got lag or something crazy, whoever crashed with you will get punished and you will earn some time to reach the next box and get new protection. Other story is in Mario Kart Tour which is the opposite, if someone crashes your trail, it won't get punished and there is 99% chance you will get redded after the next box. Given that the double coin is a thing in MKT multiplayer 2 item slots, if you lose your trail and you get redded right after the box, you will get 50% chance of a double coin and no item until the next item set. AND THE PERSON WHO "GOT TRAILED AND NO PUNISHED" IS IN FIRST PLACE JUST LIKE THAT!!! So frustrating... So, as a conclusion the problem with multiplayer in general, not just Mario Kart, is that the server deals with your console and "the others" consoles and it has to determine a "source of the truth", I mean, which console has the right state of the game in a specific moment. The technical name I give it is the "conciliation algorithm". For the case of MK8D, the conciliation algorithm says that both consoles, yours and theirs have the truth, so if you and Rod are interacting snipping or trailing, if at least in one console you get a hit, you will get punished. In MKT the conciliation algorithm says that only what's happening on "their" screen is what will count.

This war was really close, it honestly proved to me that inside drift is not really bad at all and if you practice with it you can definitely compete with outside drift! Although, team Yoshi could have done better if they were luckier with the track selection. Barely any of their tracks were actually picked!
i believe these have both (kinda) been the best combo in the game at some point wiggler is a direct upgrade to waluigi, who infamously dominated on the wild wiggler the yoshi bike has the same stats as the teddy buggy, which when combined with yoshi flooded online lobbies after wave 4 and is still viable today

Despite how dumb this is, I can fearfully think of something dumber! A clan war between King Boo and Petey Piranha, and team custom items with King Boo getting the boo, and Petey Piranha getting the piranha plant. Now THAT is dumb.
