Maybe even better advice: get into a trade through a union. All you have to pay for is your monthly dues and the union provides you guaranteed work and pays for 100% of your education and certifications. No debt during or after your education and there is always work and health benefits.

A side note to that: When a prisoner is terminally ill with 6 months left to live, and gets released "on compassionate grounds," it's really just because the BOP doesn't want to pay for the inmate's end-of-life care.

Hey Larry, former max/close security officer here. Just gonna say I agree with what you said 100%. I dunno where this guy got this information from, but not all of it is true. At the prison I worked in, we tried our best to identify the various gang affiliations, and separated obvious issues. You obviously couldn't have two rivals being in close proximity with each other and the like because that was just trouble waiting to happen, and my facility had a couple of different dorms types. We had one we all called the "honor dorms", which is where the older guys or the very well behaved orderlies went, sometimes if guys were playing it nice for long enough they were considered, and then you had the ACU's (basically the hole for inmates with mental instability things going on).
We also had a separate yet connected facility where inmates no longer considered a major threat went, and usually those guys were gonna be out pretty soon or they were about to be transferred to a lower level security.
The process I've seen was basically get papers done, get strip searched, get suited up in your first DoC jumpers, and assign a temporary dorm until higher ups figured out where they wanted you. When they got their briefing, typically the Warden was there but sometimes if he wasn't able to get to it the Deputy Warden of security would do it, the newbies learned to stand up at attention REAL quick, learned the lay of the facility, all the important faces (medical, mental health, big name officers, PREA team, etc) though half of them never showed up even though they are listed to arrive on the schedule, and were sent back to their housing with a pack. Sometimes they sat there for a week or longer, but during that time they got their DoC ID and for the most part, I can guarantee you, 99% of those new faces that never been to prison were shaking in their trousers, even though they weren't really in that much danger, being in the newly booked dorms, and separated from the other knuckleheads that probably would do something to cause issues.
This is a really cool insight from the perspective of someone that's been in the system man, keep doing these videos, always glad to see an ex-con that's going to the straight and narrow, and I'll probably even check your book out sometime. Cheers!

It really put a different perspective on it for me. They even rented a unit got federal inmates too. I saw many an inmate awaiting "chain" as the called it. I know it wasn't prison, but I saw and recognize a lot of what you mention in your videos. Inmates gambling commissary, phone calls, visitation, etc. I love watching your videos. I saw how a lot of the officers were, making it difficult for the inmates. My whole shtick was "I don't care what you do, just don't do it in front of rank, and don't do anything that makes me have to write a report". I wasn't there to make their lives harder than it already was. I really like the flipside perspective you provide.

Helped me out a lot with hygiene, books, food, and good advice. Really needed it to. I was 22 with nothing but myself. That was back in '99-'01. Larry gives it to you raw and real. He’s wrong a lot and I don’t know if he does it on purpose or just doesn’t realize it but he often acts as if his opinions or experiences are facts, simply because he doesn’t know better.
Infographics usually gets like 80% of the facts right, but on this channel if your actually fact checking, can be far worse.

The ink issue actually depends on the size of the town you're arrested in. I was "inked" in 2011 (fairly recently) in Hawthorne, Nevada. A true middle-of-nowhere kind of town. An interesting side note: That same jailed allowed cigarette smoking so long as you did it outside in the rec area, which is a huge no-no in most other places. You had to get arrested with your own cigs, you could borrow from the guards though if they smoked.

“Truth”, based on his views and what he thinks, but not so much fact based. So many times, even in this video he’ll describe something that is just completely wrong or say “this doesn’t happen” when I’ve experienced it.
It’s usually more of an opinion, if you take everything at face value then your a fool and getting bad info.
These videos should just be entertaining.

@@justinmartin4662 no disrespect to Lawton, I’m sure he’s saying it how he believes it, and I do believe he’s telling the truth about what he says, but I also think that some of his statements (I’ve never been locked up so I can’t say for certain) might not apply to everyone. Because he was in maximum security prisons, which, usually, have more aggressive people, I’d imagine some of the stuff he faced was also more extreme then the experiences of most people, the ones in lower security prisons

Its a really good thing to have guys like Larry making videos about prison even if it only helps one person stay on or get on the right path it’s worth it! The younger generations get their information good and bad from social media platforms like TH-cam and when they are looking up the criminal side of things they will also see videos from quality guys like urself and it will absolutely help some people not become criminals. Tv stations made shows like scared straight and stuff like that trying to help kids but all that stuff was scripted, it had the vibe of getting yelled at by ur parents I’m sure it helped some people but ur videos are completely different you don’t judge people, you have an open mind, your honest about everything good and bad and one really important thing is telling the truth about how inmates are treated by the prison system in general, the guards, healthcare, how inmates treat each other, how inmates are treated by their crimes, the abuse they suffer, the cover ups by guards and all that stuff specially the abuse suffered from the system/guards is not something that a prison will talk about on a tv show they will never admit to a fraction of what is actually going on and when kids hear about the real abuse going on some will think twice and say to themselves I don’t ever want to go there.

Infographics makes a lot of mistakes, but that happens when you make so many videos on a large variety of subjects relatively quickly. There are a lot of these "quick facts" "top 10" cheaply made animated videos on youtube, and a lot of them are total bunk, made in foriegn countries for the ad revenue. All of them recorded with a silly way of talking almost like a hollywood announcer. (I've really grown to dislike that voice a lot of "documentary" youtubers put on, like the bald guy you see who's on like 10,000 youtue channels such as the biographics one - that bizzare overly dramatic, drawn out way of speaking trying to add more drama).

Thanks for the great video larry, im really glad that you brought up how long classification takes... for example i did 4 years for a violent offence when i was 19. but it took at least 3 days of waiting in an intake facility somewhere in texas (near houston i think... its been awhile) just to get to the point of being brought to the actual prison. I really think infographics should shut up about the prison system.
