This is US prison though. My country doesn't do uniforms and cellmates is only for those who have proven themselves to be able to handle a cellmate and only if they volunteer for one. The food is also better and given at sane times because it has been proven time and time again in research that hungry inmates are violent inmates. The US doesn't try to rehabilitate their inmates though, they are dumped in a for profit system that benefits absolutely nobody except the people running the prison. It doesn't benefit the inmate, it doesn't benefit the guards, it doesn't benefit the outside world.
I been to 11 prisons. Find you a corner, read, and analyze who you could and can't speak to. Those who act turbulent, you stay away from, and limit your talk.

My first 24 hours consisted of: meet celly (he was actually pretty chill, an old-timer), wake up, get food, go to cell, get food, go to the yard, go to cell, get food, go to sleep. I got intake and bunk assignment the night before. Didn't have any issues for 3 days. Got into a fight at morning meal, spent until dinner in solitary. Had dinner in genpop, got in a fight. Solitary for 24hours. This was at Homestead Correctional in Miami-Dade Florida.
I don't think most people even realize the difference between prison and jail. Noone goes to prison straight off the street. You go to jail first and wait while you're on trial.
Exactly, you get sentenced, sent to jail until you go to classification which usually keeps you in there for a month while they figure out where to put you and if you are in any gangs or whatever. Like you don’t go right to prison like in the movies.
I've been out 13 years now. But I spent over half my life in and out unfourtantly. Jail is the detention center you go to before your sentence at court. It could be months or rarely years. Prison is when you get sentenced and go to the real jail. Depending on your country like in canada federal is a sentence over 2 years provincial is 2 years less a day. The u.s has state and federal jails depending on your crimes. And no this video is wrong the guards dont actually do a cavity search they do make you bend over and cough etc but they dont touch genital areas. This video is so wrong. Was 18 when I was given a short sentence in jail. I was the youngest guy. Other inmates were loud and obnoxious but I was all right. When your young you stay quiet and don't gamble. I remember another young guy came in and got into a fight with a old timer. The old timer said why can't you be more like him. He was talking about me. Stay busy and maintain your hygiene. Staying busy and working out give you something to focus on. It is very boring .

Inmates also intimidate new inmates to tell them why they got sent there and if you refuse to tell them you are in big danger. But then you can tell your lawyer and guards you are endangered and need to move to different place in the prison. But even after that there might be still people who can take advantage of you if you dont know how to behave. When you get on holidays they have people outside and force you to smuggle drgs inside the walls when you come back. and again if you dont do it your time inside the walls will be nightmare looking over your shoulder contantly and taking beatings. I dont know any prisons personally that are good places to be. Even in most skandinavian prisons inmates say they totally run the place and if you are rich you can be high 24/7 till you get freed from prison. That's how much corruption there is. The cavity search really isn't that bad. It's a weird sensation having a foreign hand up a deeply personal space but it's not painful. Just think of it like having a medical examination.
It is the Mental Prision that is the hardest part! You have to adapt and keep yourself busy , create routines and use the time that you have and take atvantage of it. I used it as a reset button for my entire life. I read every book I could , exercised 6 days a week...I came out of prision 5 times healthier mentally and physically than before I went. You can make the best of a bad situation , its wheather or not you will. Anyone reading this or watching this who is facing time..Stay Up..and God Bless.
Even if you think jail may not be as something you expect it is always hard to deal with being locked up doesn't matter how much you think you can make it. Stay away from jail and your life should be okay. Edit: Something I learned from an early age and wow, didn"t expect quite a reaction. If you have children who gets easily angry like I do, teach them important values at early age
That's what the Chinese state is doing. They're using their prisons as an example on values education. Unlike in America, values education is a mandatory subject in China and Russia, not just something at home. The State shall be the third parent.
I've been to prison. The first 24 hours are not the hardest. I was in jail for 9 months before waiting for sentencing. That's the hardest part. Getting there was a relief. The hardest parts come when you realize you're missing your family and disappearing for years. You miss loved ones dying. Young ones growing. Prison is easy. Also within the first two weeks you are never thrown into the mix. You are in what's called the fish tank. You have about 30 mins to an hour out at a time and you have a cellmate. Sometimes you'll be out for a few hours. The fish tank is heavily monitored and they constantly go through mics. Cellmates typically are about to go to population and you'll usually learn prison etiquette from them
Your first two weeks in prison you eat in your cell. And before you even touch a table in prison you're made aware of what politics to follow per the rules of the prison.
When you go to the bathroom in your cell you're required to courtesy flush sometimes you'll be asked to hang a curtain *blanket* it just depends on your cellmate

Toilet etiquette is this. Inform your cellie. If you have to go but it's a half hour before they open your door to the day room, wait that half hour. Flush often and time your flushing. The action of flushing in facility toilets are pretty strong will create a suction enough to pull any odors with your solids. In California, and probably most states, you spend the entire court process in county jail. Once sentenced it generally takes a week or two to be transferred to a state facility. That first facility is called Reception where you are processed and live for several months and wait for your counselor to tell you what your points are which determines what level yard you'll be on and what facilities will be narrowed down to for your final destination called Mainline.
When I worked as a Nurse for a state prison in GA, we had a gang leader who went the First 48 taking a smoke and proceeded to tell all, he didn't survive the first 6 hours in prison. They stabbed him several times and threw him over the railing 2 floors down. This guy refused PC (protective custody) and said he's been to prison before and will survive his 20 year sentence.

I understand. I have a huge fear of becoming the victim of an unjust execution. I'm just not a lucky person. In school I was always being punished for things I hadn't done.
I had to tour a prison I was attached to for work. It just so happened the group that I worked in was made of all females 20-25, only 1 male 25. We had to walk through with 2 guards pointing things out to us and I have never felt so violated in my life. We got to the mental health wing and the inmates weren't even hiding what they were doing, it was disgusting. My friend was so scared she kept pulling at my arm. A senior inmate came over to us and struck up a conversation, as soon as he did everyone settled down. It was very obvious he was well respected by everyone there, not just the inmates but the guards too. I had never been so thankful to someone. He didn't have to intervene, he just did cos he was a good person. I found out later he was only there because of unfortunate circumstances. I hope he is doing ok today.

During my time being locked up, breakfast was served at 4:30 AM, lunch was at 11:30 AM and then dinner was served at 4:30-5PM. So we would have to go 12 hours without any food until breakfast. Some of the correctional officers would also throw away your food if you were trying to save it for a snack overnight. Not all of them would do this but there were some officers who would toss it out for some reason. Having commissary was so freaking important to survive throughout the night and not go hungry. You were fed just enough food to make it through the day and not die of starvation. I had a lot of nights where i had no overnight snacks and 4:30 AM could not come quick enough. You learn quick how to hide food or as well learn a skill to make trades with other inmates for their commissary.
Here in AZ (id imagine other states do this) but you have a specific chow dress code and one of the things is "No Tupperware" although most of us don't care if you take stuff from your tray or what was given to you from other people some people are big on policy and take it away or deny you chow until the Tupperware is outside of the chow hall. But they're usually the ones to get stabbed
Yeh try 14 hours here smh and commecary so expensive unless u spending limit weekly and getting almost all wisely fulfillment meeting nutrition I wnt make it the week without getting hungry... but breakfast6::30 more ing 1130 lunches 430 dinner... pray u wasnt a addict running non stop in malnourishment then u go in already got starving because u never eat enough and cnt tell how bad till u got that first night nothin ciggs drugs commecary... then u get sick dont eat one tray for 2-6 days till ur better.. then u can eat 4 meals a sitting and starving 5o death by 9 and still gotta wait til 630... wi5chb sounds easy cause ubsleep at night say 10 to 630... wrong 1e sleep all day till 6 pm or after dinner then up all night watchin others eat store food...
My army buddy was a great prison guard for 20 years. Made life easier for the good guys and not so good for the bad guys including the officers some who were also good and bad. He would go over superiors to get needed medical attention to inmates and even waited with them after he found out they weren't getting treated. He said just because they were inmates they still deserved medical attention
My first 24 hours in prison was like what you said until you get to your cell . After that u ain't getting out of ur cell cuz ur in classification for 3 to 6 months ur down 22 or 23 hours a day depending on were u are.
It's actually kind of an interesting experience. I read 10 books in 30 days. Long ones. Saw things from a different perspective. Met some interesting people.
There is soo many inaccuracies in this video it’s ridiculous. Officers don’t even carry firearms on them in prison. They have a taser, pepper spray, and handcuffs.
You guys in the US are wild. Here in Europe, prison murders are very very rare and more often than not, prison is just a standard place where you’re locked up for several hours a day and allowed to exercise and socialise for the rest. You guys need to sort out your prison system
The closest I ever came to going to prison was the 9 months I spent installing piping in one back in 1997-98. Best time to go to prison is before it opens. Paid well too.
They do not do a "full cavity search" unless absolutely necessary (if they are suspicious of you in particular, for smuggling something in). Lastly, they say "run a personality test" for cell mate compatibility um...no..lol! It's simple, are they the same race and do either of them have any "funny charges"

Prison really isn’t that bad all you got to do is make the best of the situation, start talking to other inmates, play basketball, workout. Dont make promises or borrow things and dont lie and you’ll be fine
Before I went to prison, I had some inmates in the jail to give me some good advice! They told me 5 things. One, what you, see you don’t see! Two, what you hear, you don’t hear. Three, Keep a low profile. Four, find some that you feel that you can, to some degree, trust. They got your back and you got their back. Five, Try to stay busy. You do the time and don’t let the time do you! I followed their advice and made it through and quite fast! I have been free ever since. Peace.
Maybe in some third world countries, manual cavity search is history in most countries. They use X ray called the Boss chair, it's more pleasant for the prisoners and for the guards too.
In german prison, you get 1x40g Tabaco, 2x papers, 1 lighter, 500g coffe powder, 500g Milkpowder and 1kg sugar as a greeting(no joke) i even got a second one because i missed shopping for some reason, and the pastor brought me a pack of tabaco 2. if you dont like tabaco or coffe, or both, other inmates are happy to change.
Judging from all the ex-convicts in the comments here, Infographics were at no point in the prison system and a lot of this information is inaccurate or just false.
They also say not to do up all your classes, (Because they can knock time off your sentence) because most people will reoffend and end right back in prison and when you do, and you've done up all your classes the first go around, you'll have nothing to help your situation

Bullies thrive anywhere their victims are trapped and can't leave. That's what prison and elementary school have in common. In both cases, the system tends to favor the bullies so don't expect much help.
I done a few years in England, at HMP Erlestoke, & we used to get our dinner about 4pm, maybe quarter past, then next meal was 12.00 I think, but there wasn't any breakfast, they provided bread for toast, but no fixed breakfast, so most time people would go 20 hours without food of they couldn't afford canteen. Luckily I had pretty wham canteens, thanks to my mother, who is the best.

Not one thing told me why it was dangerous. It just told me what to expect for the first 24. No mention of gangs or initiations, or anything else like that.
The first 24 hours is nerve wracking. I wouldn't call it scary but you have to peep out your environment and perhaps make contact with the people who you see are the same type of persons as you. For instance, I started talking to a guy whom we shared the same Black Flag ( the punk band) with . He introduced me to the people who I did my whole bit hanging with. This was in Ohio at Ross which was a close security prison with 2 man cells and you had to lock down at 9 p.m. You could buy a t.v so that made it easier. In Kentucky it was much more lax. Other races could be cool or hang with each other. You would think it would be the opposite but it was laid back. There are CD players, mp3 now and playstations plus so many privileges. Its still prison but very easy compared to Ohio. My suggestion is don't ever go to prison! Its horrible to be away from the rest of the world and simply not worth it.
24 hours in prison shouldn’t be that bad. All you gotta do is listen to guards, be careful, and not get on anyones nerves for just one day, and then once you get out you’re perfectly fine. A lot more than 24 hours though, you’re in for a lot with brutal inmates
I'm a 76 year old lady, a retired school teacher, and I know I wouldn't survive in prison. But then I have no crime record and am very unlikely to start a criminal career at this stage of my life. I am curious though; I wonder if they take away your pension or your Social Security in prison?
Yes until you get out then you have to notify social security to collect again. It is important to notify social security when you do go to prison or else it will be a violation for social security.

Maybe it's just because I was in a state facility, but we were locked down for 3 days for our tb test and then we went to lunch in lines and were only allowed to sit in that line.

Here in Europe, you’ll do fine unless you’re a very very Prolific offender. There’s a lot of focus on education and rehabilitation here so that’s why recidivism are generally low in most european countries compared to the US
I can't imagine even spending a single hour in prison much less 24. And people stay there for YEARS...its a miracle anyone can come out relatively normal.
Only thing wrong here is that in first day ur cellmate and u wont talk, its true that the first 24h dictates alot of how ur sentence is going to go and it depends much on the charges u been locked for t former inmate

In high school my friends and I would “plan” crimes we would never commit. How to rob a bank, hijack a plane, rob Fort Knox, steal the Crown jewels and silly things like that. If nothing else the possibility of prison would prevent me from committing crimes even if I had a 99% chance of getting away with it.
I would really hate to be the guard conducting the searches, seems like the worst job to have. Imagine having a conversation and explaining to them what you do for a living.

All Correctional Officers, dutiful and fully trained, are required to maintain safety and security efforts to prevent escapes; respond to emergencies; supervise inmate conduct; utilize de-escalation/communication techniques; assume an armed post and/or patrol grounds. We must hold our esteemed Officers to the highest levels of integrity. The best course of action may be to march into the Wardens chamber and give your explicit demands for human justice or inform that person that you will notify the police.
I'm 53 and hear that most inmates shed a tear on the first Night doesn't matter how tough or hard you were outside, I know people who spent more time in than out, if you don't want to do the time, don't do the crime.

It is the Mental Prision that is the hardest part! You have to adapt and keep yourself busy , create routines and use the time that you have and take atvantage of it. I used it as a reset button for my entire life. I read every book I could , exercised 6 days a week...I came out of prision 5 times healthier mentally and physically than before I went. You can make the best of a bad situation , its wheather or not you will. Anyone reading this or watching this who is facing time..Stay Up..and God Bless.
Even if you think jail may not be as something you expect it is always hard to deal with being locked up doesn't matter how much you think you can make it. Stay away from jail and your life should be okay.
Edit: Something I learned from an early age and wow, didn"t expect quite a reaction. If you have children who gets easily angry like I do, teach them important values at early age

That's what the Chinese state is doing. They're using their prisons as an example on values education.

I've been to prison. The first 24 hours are not the hardest. I was in jail for 9 months before waiting for sentencing. That's the hardest part. Getting there was a relief. The hardest parts come when you realize you're missing your family and disappearing for years. You miss loved ones dying. Young ones growing. Prison is easy. As long as you learn and respect the politics
Also within the first two weeks you are never thrown into the mix. You are in what's called the fish tank. You have about 30 mins to an hour out at a time and you have a cellmate. Sometimes you'll be out for a few hours.
The fish tank is heavily monitored and they constantly go through mics. Cellmates typically are about to go to population and you'll usually learn prison etiquette from them
Your first two weeks in prison you eat in your cell. And before you even touch a table in prison you're made aware of what politics to follow per the rules of the prison.
When you go to the bathroom in your cell you're required to courtesy flush sometimes you'll be asked to hang a curtain *blanket* it just depends on your cellmate

Toilet etiquette is this. Inform your cellie. If you have to go but it's a half hour before they open your door to the day room, wait that half hour. Flush often and time your flushing. The action of flushing in facility toilets are pretty strong will create a suction enough to pull any odors with your solids.
In California, and probably most states, you spend the entire court process in county jail. Once sentenced it generally takes a week or two to be transferred to a state facility. That first facility is called Reception where you are processed and live for several months and wait for your counselor to tell you what your points are which determines what level yard you'll be on and what facilities will be narrowed down to for your final destination called Mainline.

When I worked as a Nurse for a state prison in GA, we had a gang leader who went the First 48 taking a smoke and proceeded to tell all, he didn't survive the first 6 hours in prison. They stabbed him several times and threw him over the railing 2 floors down. This guy refused PC (protective custody) and said he's been to prison before and will survive his 20 year sentence.

I had to tour a prison I was attached to for work. It just so happened the group that I worked in was made of all females 20-25, only 1 male 25. We had to walk through with 2 guards pointing things out to us and I have never felt so violated in my life. We got to the mental health wing and the inmates weren't even hiding what they were doing, it was disgusting. My friend was so scared she kept pulling at my arm. A senior inmate came over to us and struck up a conversation, as soon as he did everyone settled down. It was very obvious he was well respected by everyone there, not just the inmates but the guards too. I had never been so thankful to someone. He didn't have to intervene, he just did cos he was a good person. I found out later he was only there because of unfortunate circumstances. I hope he is doing ok today.

During my time being locked up, breakfast was served at 4:30 AM, lunch was at 11:30 AM and then dinner was served at 4:30-5PM. So we would have to go 12 hours without any food until breakfast. Some of the correctional officers would also throw away your food if you were trying to save it for a snack overnight. Not all of them would do this but there were some officers who would toss it out for some reason. Having commissary was so freaking important to survive throughout the night and not go hungry. You were fed just enough food to make it through the day and not die of starvation. I had a lot of nights where i had no overnight snacks and 4:30 AM could not come quick enough. You learn quick how to hide food or as well learn a skill to make trades with other inmates for their commissary.
Here in AZ (id imagine other states do this) but you have a specific chow dress code and one of the things is "No Tupperware" although most of us don't care if you take stuff from your tray or what was given to you from other people some people are big on policy and take it away or deny you chow until the Tupperware is outside of the chow hall. But they're usually the ones to get stabbed
Yeh try 14 hours here smh and commecary so expensive unless u spending limit weekly and getting almost all wisely fulfillment meeting nutrition I wnt make it the week without getting hungry... but breakfast6::30 more ing 1130 lunches 430 dinner... pray u wasnt a addict running non stop in malnourishment then u go in already got starving because u never eat enough and cnt tell how bad till u got that first night nothin ciggs drugs commecary... then u get sick dont eat one tray for 2-6 days till ur better.. then u can eat 4 meals a sitting and starving 5o death by 9 and still gotta wait til 630... wi5chb sounds easy cause ubsleep at night say 10 to 630... wrong 1e sleep all day till 6 pm or after dinner then up all night watchin others eat store food...

My army buddy was a great prison guard for 20 years. Made life easier for the good guys and not so good for the bad guys including the officers some who were also good and bad. He would go over superiors to get needed medical attention to inmates and even waited with them after he found out they weren't getting treated. He said just because they were inmates they still deserved medical attention

My first 24 hours in prison was like what you said until you get to your cell . After that u ain't getting out of ur cell cuz ur in classification for 3 to 6 months ur down 22 or 23 hours a day depending on were u are.

There is soo many inaccuracies in this video it’s ridiculous. Officers don’t even carry firearms on them in prison. They have a taser, pepper spray, and handcuffs.

You guys in the US are wild. Here in Europe, prison murders are very very rare and more often than not, prison is just a standard place where you’re locked up for several hours a day and allowed to exercise and socialise for the rest.

The closest I ever came to going to prison was the 9 months I spent installing piping in one back in 1997-98. Best time to go to prison is before it opens. Paid well too.

They do not do a "full cavity search" unless absolutely necessary (if they are suspicious of you in particular, for smuggling something in). Lastly, they say "run a personality test" for cell mate compatibility um...no..lol! It's simple, are they the same race and do either of them have any "funny charges"

In Minnesota, a cavity search is not mandatory upon intake at a prison. A squat and cough is done instead.
Prison really isn’t that bad all you got to do is make the best of the situation, start talking to other inmates, play basketball, workout. Dont make promises or borrow things and dont lie and you’ll be fine
Before I went to prison, I had some inmates in the jail to give me some good advice! They told me 5 things. One, what you, see you don’t see! Two, what you hear, you don’t hear. Three, Keep a low profile. Four, find some that you feel that you can, to some degree, trust. They got your back and you got their back. Five, Try to stay busy. You do the time and don’t let the time do you! I followed their advice and made it through and quite fast! I have been free ever since. Peace.
Maybe in some third world countries, manual cavity search is history in most countries.
They use X ray called the Boss chair, it's more pleasant for the prisoners and for the guards too.
In german prison, you get 1x40g Tabaco, 2x papers, 1 lighter, 500g coffe powder, 500g Milkpowder and 1kg sugar as a greeting(no joke) i even got a second one because i missed shopping for some reason, and the pastor brought me a pack of tabaco 2. if you dont like tabaco or coffe, or both, other inmates are happy to change.

Larry lawton tore this video apart, (in a good and constructive way) but it made me doubt the quality of the content. Bullies thrive anywhere their victims are trapped and can't leave. That's what prison and elementary school have in common. In both cases, the system tends to favor the bullies so don't expect much help.
I done a few years in England, at HMP Erlestoke, & we used to get our dinner about 4pm, maybe quarter past, then next meal was 12.00 I think, but there wasn't any breakfast, they provided bread for toast, but no fixed breakfast, so most time people would go 20 hours without food of they couldn't afford canteen. Luckily I had pretty wham canteens, thanks to my mother, who is the best.
Is this a pie in the sky version ? Medical checkups , background checks to see if people are compatible ? Is there a gourmet chef ? I couldn't help but notice a couple of the graphics characters who were guards later appeared as prisoners.

Not one thing told me why it was dangerous. It just told me what to expect for the first 24. No mention of gangs or initiations, or anything else like that.
The first 24 hours is nerve wracking. I wouldn't call it scary but you have to peep out your environment and perhaps make contact with the people who you see are the same type of persons as you. For instance, I started talking to a guy whom we shared the same Black Flag ( the punk band) with . He introduced me to the people who I did my whole bit hanging with. This was in Ohio at Ross which was a close security prison with 2 man cells and you had to lock down at 9 p.m. You could buy a t.v so that made it easier. In Kentucky it was much more lax. Other races could be cool or hang with each other. You would think it would be the opposite but it was laid back. There are CD players, mp3 now and playstations plus so many privileges. Its still prison but very easy compared to Ohio. My suggestion is don't ever go to prison! Its horrible to be away from the rest of the world and simply not worth it.
24 hours in prison shouldn’t be that bad. All you gotta do is listen to guards, be careful, and not get on anyones nerves for just one day, and then once you get out you’re perfectly fine. A lot more than 24 hours though, you’re in for a lot with brutal inmates

Maybe it's just because I was in a state facility, but we were locked down for 3 days for our tb test and then we went to lunch in lines and were only allowed to sit in that line.
It's hard to say. As long as you're a stand up guy and mind your business. It'll be easier for you but no guarantees though. If you're a punk you'll be in a lot more fights

Here in Europe, you’ll do fine unless you’re a very very Prolific offender. There’s a lot of focus on education and rehabilitation here so that’s why recidivism are generally low in most european countries compared to the US

I used to love infographic but i think the main reason why this channel is my least favourite now is because of the main topic. I want the channel to take a breather and take their time. In high school my friends and I would “plan” crimes we would never commit. How to rob a bank, hijack a plane, rob Fort Knox, steal the Crown jewels and silly things like that.
If nothing else the possibility of prison would prevent me from committing crimes even if I had a 99% chance of getting away with it.

All Correctional Officers, dutiful and fully trained, are required to maintain safety and security efforts to prevent escapes; respond to emergencies; supervise inmate conduct; utilize de-escalation/communication techniques; assume an armed post and/or patrol grounds. We must hold our esteemed Officers to the highest levels of integrity. The best course of action may be to march into the Wardens chamber and give your explicit demands for human justice or inform that person that you will notify the police.
