I've always enjoyed how some of the early 2000s futurism from Oblivion Lost made its way into S.T.A.L.K.E.R., such as with the Berill-5M armor. I wonder how Heart of Chernobyl will handle the dated aesthetic. Hopefully they don't modernize it too much.
I love how a lot of the reload and fire animations were almost 1-1 with some of the old counterstrike ones, to the point where the guy tries to chamber a round by ripping back on the forward assist for the LR300. There's tiny little differences in the movement that indicate they're not just ripped from CS, but actually remade 1-1 through reference.
There is a certain sense of irony that GSC yoinked the crosshair in build 1098 from Serious Sam as a placeholder, where Croteam released a technically impressive Slavjank game for it's time in 2001, while GSC's technically impressive Slavjank game was stuck in a development hell only to be released years after it was impressive for it's time in 2007, with build 1098 also being from 2001, the same year Serious Sam came out.
Who in the %^#* is disliking this video? I just finished watching it, and it is of a very high quality! A better mic will be in order at some point, especially with the amount of talking you do in your videos, but I honestly can't imagine how one could dislike this-besides not giving a damn about Stalker-in which case... Why even click on the video?

I really like the old cordon design, except for the missing rookie village. Rookie village is a nice camp to chill in. Also neat how they have sounds from Half Life, CS 1.6, and Codename Outbreak as placeholders.
This is a great video and such an interesting concept. It feels like it's not even real, the old, empty forums that someone managed to archive rare builds from, websites that originally housed a patch randomly becoming deleted, such mysterious characters behind the build's discoveries. Even the slight bugs, strange noises, and templates make for such a strange and original experience. It feels like the most lost media that was barely found or never meant to be found. cursed.

So strange to see what STALKER started from, I mean look at the most advanced mods and realise that its the same engine that originally had one weapon which was a quake railgun and a map with temples, to then flying round in a apache, to seeing a future tunnel built into a mountain. If GSC wants to make more games, they should seriously think about the old projects, the genre of closed off mega cities in a future where the earth is dying is popular (look at blade runner fans/cyberpunk fans). Hell I'd also love a Crimean STALKER, maybe a new rift in the zone happens there in some unknown X labs built to test C-Con over distance from different sites.
That box at 55:11 is a test box used for the Shader Editor, a tool that comes in with the X-Ray SDK. It's not only used for lighting, it's used to test level shaders for terrain and other stuff as well. I speak from experience
tbh the Oblivion Lost lore is really cool but knowing it would've come at the cost of having STALKER makes me glad for what we got instead. Nothing beats the world of the zone for me.

I can't say for sure what that box is but it looks like it would be something they're using to test textures. Definitely a development tool of some sort. Where did you get the files for that one? Maybe digging through the model stuff might shed some insight
How did you get build 1098 to run? Whenever I try to launch it, when it loads to the point where it says ''spawning'' I just get an error message and the game crashes.
Make sure to check the russian stalker wiki page on build 1098 there is some bug fixes there in case of crashes, also sometimes builds just don't want to work there temperamental like that.

The stalker's face from Build 1114 looks kinda like Anatolij Solonicyn, the actor who portrayed the Writer in the 1979 Stalker movie.
