Well another surprice. Studio integrated pictobrick as well in the program. I've been experimenting on how to organise larger models using the editor, like Blueprint worked (not using the steps) . In your tutorial you show how you can arrange steps and make submodels. That is something i never did before in LDD. It also was my biggest mistakenot making groups (like LDD) calls this. I just build things untill it's finished. During the build i did not bother of how I could get it build. You really hammer it into my head that i have to think in terms of instructions making. You say : work from the outside and then see on the inside how you can connect everything. I don't agree with that. Spaceships and larger models that I make are basically started with a technic frame with the covering around it. So i cannot work from outside in. I've imported a lxf lego file into Studio and that worked very nice. Just a simple design of 500 parts. I have not been able to make a instruction for it. Arranging the parts was impossible. Once you import the model . On the left columm you see the finished model. I start with putting some pieces , before that final step. Doing that there's no way looking into that model. I prefered the Blueprint way of working. You start with a empty step and then get a proposition of how it can be build. Out of that the parts can be moved before or after the step I'm on. I suppose it will be easier if I have build something that allready has these submodels integrated. Still have a lot to learn. And my "biggest" problem is that i' don't really have small models. It all starts at 3000 pieces, and without submodels in it, and just using the editor and all these parts below i don't really know even how to get started at this. Hi Paul, You made some good points. I never used Blueprint so I honestly have no comparison. Yes, not always will working form the outside in work, it really does depend on the project. Most of my projects are VERY large and it certainly does take time to wade through the parts and figure out what order the steps are going to need to go in.

There's no default way and ready to build option here..So that is painfull..Once you go to the instructionnmaker you get two steps. Even in LDD this would work with the "generate building instruction" option..Sad , this leaves me with a pixelised image and no way to build it in real bricks. Maybe BL could create a ready to build tool.

I recognized that the largest parts were limited to 2x6 plates. I guess that one 6x6 plate is cheaper than three 2x6 plates. Also 2x2 corners are ignored which would save a lot of costs. Any ideas? I guess the algorithm can be improved or is this a settings topic?
Is there a way to import a image for reference? I want to design a lego vehicle based of a blueprint. To get the dimensions right, it would be very helpful to have this blueprint in stud.io

I would have to think about how to turn into excel format, but there is an option where you can adjust the camera in the instruction maker to show the flat surface. I will do another video in the future on covering instructions a bit more, yes.
@@PlaywellBricks, I found out I can choose one single type of brick (or plate or tile), which means the program can only select the smallest part (the 1 x 1 piece), which is exactly what I wanted. Otherwise, selecting manually the size for one hundred thousand parts would be torture.
@@mortschubert3909 How did you do that? I want it all in 1*1plates.. Did you try making instructions..There is no automatically creation of a i struction ..So goi g through the whole building process and rearanging all the 1*1 plates is painfull

This is what you have to do: - click the "Mosaic" button on the Menu bar; - select image; - click the "Create Mosaic" button; - scroll down to "PRICE OPTIMIZATION"; - click the ON/OFF button next to "USE VARIOUS SIZED PARTS". With that button now turned to "OFF", the program is forced to use only the smallest parts available (except, that is, for the support/the back, where, by default, it uses only 2 x 8 and 8 x 8 plates; these ones you can replace with anything you have - ideally, large base plates). I should, indeed, make a tutorial!

Yes, create your mosaic in Studio and then use the add to wanted list feature.

I agree, I don't think the algorithm takes into account large parts yet, so you may have make those adjustment manually.

There is no direct way in Studio. But you can import an image on a custom tile in Parts designer and import that into Studio.

When you add a bill of materials, you can choose how to display the color codes.

There is no option for selecting a specific size of brick, so you will have to edit that yourself.
