  • Final Optional Boss - Dullahan
    Dullahan from The Lost Age is back, and he still holds the title of the hardest optional boss in Golden Sun series. This guy has a ton of HP very high defense value, and a number of devastating moves, which will bring you to your knees QUICKLY. Dullahan has much more dangerous and annoying attacks ready for you: Fulminating Edge, which inflicts up to 500 HP damage on one character and Dark Contact, that hits multiple characters and HEALS Dullahan at the same time... ;_; Oh and we all know what Djinn storms does... the most annoying move in the whole game, IMO, which totally buries all chances to withstand Dullahan's attacks any longer. =/
    This is the end of my playthrough of Dark Dawn. Hope you enjoyed watching these videos as much as I enjoyed making them.

    I went to the trouble of figuring out the djinn setup in this video. Here it is:
    Matthew/miggy: chasm, buckle, pepper, sizzle, fugue, flare, reflux, any 2 other mars djinn
    Amiti: torrent, foam, aurora, stoke, glow, forge, brand, any 2 other mars djinn
    Rief: geyser, surge, lull, vortex, sirocco, simoon, jolt, breeze, any other Jupiter djinni
    Karis: vine, ivy, bark, flower, geode, any 4 mars djinn
    Tyrell: doldrum, fleet, breath, swift, any 5 other Jupiter
    Himi: 9 Venus, doesn't matter which ones

    I see lots of players complaining with "OMG it was so easy in Dark Dawn, I beat him on my first try spamming Daedalus and Eclipse". You can do that in Lost Age too, and the fight becomes a piece of cake. It's easier than in Lost Age, but not THAT easier. You surely can't tell if you beat him spamming ultra-powerful summons. By the way, the serie is generally easy and spamming summons really kills the fun.

      +Brian Beno Lemme guess. You used this rush summoning crap? Try fighting him in arena mode. ;)
      +Nando No, TLA Dullahan is different. I said once, "You don't beat Dullahan. You survive him." There's no real trick to beating him. Rush summoning is just a lame way of dealing enough damage in the first couple turns before he can get going. Try it without that. You'll see that there's no secret little trick you have to figure out. The only way to win is to be good at balancing your front and back rows, figuring out a way of switching them back and forth without getting wiped out, and juggling heals and a little damage to whittle him down until he finally dies while he's recovering good amounts of HP per turn. (I have literally had battles where I fought for a long time only for the battle to go a little south and he fully recovered.) And by the way, the precision set up of rush summoning is not an option in arena mode. ;)

    Golden Sun 3 is such a pain to play compared to the other ones. It simply tries to imitate the open-world feeling you got from the past ones, but it also makes huge mistakes;
    - There are very few place to see other than special bosses like this
    - The progression also closes parts of the world behind you, making backtracking useless/impossible sometimes.
    - There is no real innovation. Golden Sun 1 was new, Golden Sun 2 allowed you to see another side of the story with largely wider world and new people to play with. Golden Sun 3 you get to play with the kids and end the game completely overpowered in a matter of days.
    The last point is the worse. You don't feel like you earnt your way out of this adventure, like when you arrived to Lalivero or Prox. It's making the whole quest trivial and empty. Maybe you get powerful too easily, or the game is simply more straightforward than the 1, who literally took an hour to set the plot.
    I'm so disappointed in this game. I feel like I should code a new one personally because they'll never pay money for another Golden Sun 3...

    • @smashtown2583
      @smashtown2583 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I feel very similar. Although I never finished GS3, stopped after the Eclipse.
      My personal Project: to remake the text (openly available GS text editor) from the first two games and show more of the interaction between Felix and Saturos. I feel they were butting heads a lot but they hardly show us anything. I would just want to improve the story and make the first two games flow seamlessly and show allusions to the 3rd game.
      I would also start Golden Sun the Lost Age at level 25ish and scale everything accordingly as I feel it makes sense thematically.

    • @elianrodriguez7318
      @elianrodriguez7318 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@smashtown2583 Felix didn't do much fighting prior to the start of GS2 so him and the rest of the crew being at such a low level at the start made enough sense. Besides starting Felix off around that level is dangerously close to Isaac's default level when he joins up with you without transfer data, given how Felix is made aware that Isaac's powers and skill exceeded enough to defeat Saturos and Menardi's dragon fusion (both of which are considered to be some of the strongest Adepts at that point in time) after their confrontation at Venus Lighthouse and his awareness about the difference in power between them it's safe to assume that Felix is severely underleved so having him start his adventure at a higher level doesn't make much sense narrative-wise, there's a reason why he's been passively trying to avoid Isaac's group throughout most of GS2.

    • @Espadasilenciosa
      @Espadasilenciosa 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Although GS3 is worse than the previous entries (Camelot didn't mind the details as much as in the previous entries due to lack of time or manpower) it's still a good game that follows the GS formula (in battle and puzzles) and adds excellent graphics, an epic history (the plot has its issues and it's incomplete but the eclipse apocalypse is epic as f*ck) and although the game is conservative it adds some small innovations here and there (Svetta's form change, the weapon mastery system, more cinematographic camera... the encyclopedia I guess?).
      So despite its ugly issues (no backtracking, less explorable land and the cliffhanging) it's still a recommendable game on its own, one of the best turn-RPG games for Nintendo DS.
      It's a pity the game didn't sell enough to justify a sequel that would surely expand the gameplay and fix all GS3 issues, like GS2 did for GS1

    The thing about GSDD is how strategy can be more so applied.
    Constantly switching off from Lull and Chasm there was a great trick. Regardless of summong rushing, you still had some pretty good strategy. On GS2 I first beat Dullahan as a kid, not even aware of the concept of Summon Rushing. I had a party of L40-50's, and managed to beat him what some would call "legit." I don't like how 'formulaic' the Dullahan fight is.
    I'm not talking about repeating a cycle of attacks- every boss battle in any game ever does that, it's the fact that Dullahan is on a preset list of three-move attack patterns.
    The only uncertainty is where in the pattern he starts at.
    I'm pretty sure this is a valid point, because if I'm not mistaken, the fight here is specifically tailored to skipping over Dullahan's Djinn Storms and Charon summons, because those'll wreck you.

    You've won every battle in DD and your party never fell where you needed to retreat.
    Even when the going gets tough against the first 3 secret bosses and final boss, you pulled through.
    Now you head off to Crossbone Isle to finish the entire game.
    The door ahead gives you a worry so you ignore it.
    All of a sudden in the next door is Dullahun...
    At this time you thought "Oh crap" because you realise you readied all your Djinn while avoiding the wrong door

    Back in my days, the battle plan was: Daedalus, Daedalus, Daedalus, Daedalus, wait till Dully used Charon, then Eclipse, Eclipse, Eclipse, Eclipse. Usually, at a lvl 45-50 party, he was dead by either the 3rd Eclipse or the 4th Daedalus Missile.

  • @Chokoboh
    @Chokoboh 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh, btw: The best Summons to Summon Rush him are Daedalus and Eclipse. This two are really worth the cost-benefit price. Maybe that'll help some of you.

    @DJ4Miggy Some people might get cocky, but it's a possibility to defeat Dullahan without summon rushing. It's actually a real challenge, the only real worthy challenge in the game apart from Chaos Chimera which is pretty weak itself once you reach level 55 or something around it. The thing is, without summon rushing, Dullahan really needs an immense display of skill due to Djinn Storm and Charon timing. It's much more satisfying to actually beat him ''a la loyale'', I can guarantee you that!

  • @sumerian88
    @sumerian88 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I beat him once without summon rush in Dark Dawn. My god it was long and painful. I had to have character swaps on each Djinn Storm, while preserving offensive power, while reseting Chasm as soon as possible to soak up as much damage as possible (not easy if Djinn Stormed). Himi served as a damage buffer with her single target damage buff, which I used on Sveta and Matthew, AFTER EACH BREAK from Dullahan. Sveta in beast form and Matthew with Meggido were my prime damage dealers.

    @GoldenAleph94
    No, the Dullahan in Lost Age is way more harder to defeat than the one in DD. Even the Golden Sun wiki and people who has completed all Golden Sun games say so. The main reason is because he uses Djinnn Storm and Charon alot, also his attacks do more damage. If you're unlucky, the Lost Age Dullahan can cast Charon 2 times in a row after casting Djinn Storm. But in DD, Dullahan can not cast Charon or Djinn Storm as frequent. And definitely never 2 times in a row.

  • @Chokoboh
    @Chokoboh 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    *Targets MAXIMUM Health* Sorry. That means, for example: Eclipse does a base amount of 300 Jupiter Damage and also does additional damage equivalent to 15% of the enemy’s maximum HP. 15% x 7 = 105%. That means, 7 uses of Eclipse alone can kill ANY Target, no matter how much HP it has!

    My first experience with Dullahan (I ironically lost "The Lost Age" before I reached him. -_-):
    1) Walk through Crossbone Isle, reveling in nostalgia.
    2) Come to what looks like the final room. Grab the treasure at the end, and walk in, expecting Deadbeard. (:D)
    3) Enter the final chamber and see...0:06 instead. D: "Aw well, Summon Tablet!"
    4) Walk up and see, "I am the shadow, the keeper of light. If you want the sun's power, show me your own."
    5) My brother asks why I'm screaming. -_-

    Just beat Dullahan,
    Every one was level 61-64 (cept matthew, who was level 70)
    Did not use lull at all, nor any summons,
    HOW ON EARTH DID I JUST DO IT.
    (took a lot longer than 5 minutes, I can assure you.)
    Often had Matthew attack after his attack was buffed by himi, and since his equipment boosts criticals, he often got megiddo, which did around 1k damage.
    healed with Karis, once in a while buffed resistance.
    attacked with Eoleo as well, although he boosted defense & revived. Himi was support.

    This looks like a good place to put it.
    This is all my team in a nutshell because I feel like telling people this (even if nobody notices)
    Matthew - Megiddo
    Karis - Ivan (I guess it runs in the family.)
    Tyrell - Regular Tank
    Rief - Tank Healer
    Amiti - *_C R I T_* (I gave him a Sagittarius Bow)
    Sveta - Beastform
    Eoleo - Regular Tank 2
    Himi - Karis
    Yeah, when I fought Dullahan, I didn't even use summons. Just Djinn. Had Matthew attack normally, had Sveta use maul, Eoleo attack normally (Hercules Axe) and Rief spammed Pure Wish. Rief went down occasionally, and I kept reviving him. Eoleo went down, so I switched to Amiti, who also attacked normally. He got Blue Comet EVERY SINGLE TIME. In absolutely no time, Dullahan was defeated. I am not sure how I even pulled this whole thing off with only Rief and Eoleo going down.

    If they ever released a 4th game, the final boss should be Alex himself. I've always dreamt of this:
    You play as Matthew and his party, after you go through Golden Sun 4's main events, you meet Alex at the end. His power is beyond comprehension and Alex is as cocky as ever. After exchanging words back and forth, Matthew and his party begin to fight. But before they fight, Issac appears, places his hand on Matthew and tells him, "This is my fight, not yours"
    CONTINUED IN NEXT COMMENT.

    @cloudropis my sveta could not maintain beastform for the entire battle since there were turns where i wasnt able to atk (Charon kills half my party A LOT of the time) and had to heal. he probably got around to djinn storm 2-3 times, but with this strat he never pulled it off. since matthew was a chaos lord, he had brand, and i gave wizard karis doldrum. make sure you heal every turn with one of your two healers, even if its just wish/wish well.

  • @JanusHoW
    @JanusHoW 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    What makes Dullahan easier in this game is the fact that he has a completely non-random attack script that he loops through (which I found in an FAQ):
    Fulminous Edge - Bind - Crucible - Attack - Dark Contact - Fulminous Edge - Attack - Element Swap - Attack - Condemn - Charon - Curse - Djinn Storm - Haunt - Fulminous Edge - Dark Contact - Attack - Fulminous Edge - Break - Attack - Dark Contact - Element Swap - Haunt - Curse
    However, he can start anywhere in the pattern. But if you know the script, you can predict his every move after the first turn. So if you're Summon-Rushing, and he opens with Haunt and Fulminous Edge, you're golden.
    Edit: It turns out that he doesn't do a particular attack set on a set turn - he simply picks an attack somewhere in the loop and starts following the script from there.

      +DJModulo Djinn Storm on fallen characters works the same way in TLA. Good analysis, but I'm not sure about "twice as often" in TLA. Usually, by the time the next Djinn Storm fired off, I had time to swap out my front party and their Djinn had mostly (if not fully) recovered, so it must have been something like an 8-10 turn cycle.

    All I ever did was normal attack with all my characters besides Karis and Himi. I'd have Karis heal and Himi would summon up some decently powerful Dragons every turn for me. Matthew would destroy everything with Meggido, and it's all good.
    For Dullahan, I think I also had Eoleo healing alongside Karis, had Sveta take Himi's place when she dropped.

  • @ALEXANDARRR42

    Now you could either have it two ways, have a one on one. Alex vs Issac or have the original 4 battle Issac. Issac, Garret, Mia and Ivan. Then you could have Issac be all like, "We brought this terrible power upon Weyard, and it's up to us to put an end to it, once, and, for all." Not too sure how to bring Felix in though.
    That's how I always thought of how the game should end, just my cents. I really do wish however, they bring back Jenna, Piers, Sheba, etc back. At least make a cameo lol.
