      I agree it was a penalty, but handballs have exceptions to the rule so mistakes are bound to always happen. However, the ones with Arsenal and Brighton are mistakes with offside. There should never be mistakes with offside/onside because a player is either 100% on or 100% off no exceptions. Highlighting the mistakes with offside (which should never happen) is more important to look at and fix compared to mistakes with handballs and fouls which happen all the time.

    I've lost hope in VAR in English Premier League. I have given up.
    I WILL NEVER agree that VAR lines can be forgetten where you want to establish offside and possible goal! Those are unbelievable lies.
    Clearly someone is try to fabricate an exciting run in and help teams catch up on to Arsenal. And they've done a great job of that!! And it's not over!
    Majority of why EPL is respected, is because there are men responsible to ensure the run in is as exciting as possible. Unfortunately that comes at a huge cost for many teams who have to be punished unfairly with clear wins taken from them as we've seen.
    Newcastle consider 2 clear penalties that were not given to Arsenal.
    And some people stupidly start talking about things evening out in the end! What load of rubbish! Utter rubbish.
    VAR is simply there to ensure fairness. Draw lines for ffs! What ele se are you doing there! Pause, rewind, put lines and rotate. If your not sure, ask the referee to go over and see for themselves!
    What's difficult about that? They suspended the same gay not long ago! Why are people surprised? PGMLo os just taking one for the team with this stupid explanation.
    You're embarrassing yourselves! Shame on you! So much for the best league in the world! We know the difference now and we know how that's achieved.

    What if City win the league by 1 point? Like it has happened twice already. What then? The title shouldn't be decided by the referee's mistakes, it should be decided by the players and the football they play. Maybe we should start using asterisks, i.e., *they won the title, but had the refereeing being as it should have been, the 2nd place team might have won it. I know that won't happen, but in a league where there is only 1 winner and 19 losers, the winner shouldn't be decided by outside factors.

      What do you think happened before VAR.
      It’s sport, and it is always ‘decided’ by refereeing errors. From small ones where a foul is missed, which meant a player didn’t get a yellow, so they didn’t miss a match, they scored the winner/played well in the next match etc.
      There is always a butterfly effect for every single action. There is always an element of luck in winning the league, just look at the Kompany goal against Leicester that won city the title by a point.
      Same goes for goals that should’ve/ shouldn’t have counted. It’s part of sport and sadly you have to accept that

      I kind of agree, but you can't just change one goal and think that's the only effect. Brentford pushed after falling behind and within 8 minutes, thought they had one so cooled off. If that equaliser didn't count, they had another 16 minutes to push, or potentially concede a second due to leaving themselves open. Teams will change tactics depending on the current score, and to allow them to think they've got the result they need, only to delete one of their goals later is unfair on them. Similarly, what if you disallow a goal that was legit, the team keep pushing but then concede due to leaving themselves open - adding on one goal doesn't help when they've lost by two.

    There needs to be thwo or three changes to VAR in my opinion:
    1. Referees do a post-match interview. I understand why they've been protexted in the past, but decision making needs to have accountability now. There is no explanation behind decisions and it's a guessing game. The additional pressure of having to answer publicly on calls they've made will elevate the performance.
    2. The commentary between match officials and VAR should be publicly broadcasted. Apparently commentators have access to this, so why can't fans? It'll provide clarity to the decisions and again, accountability.
    3. Managers are responsible for deciding when VAR is used. Much like tennis, unless it's a goal or off the ball incidents that need to be checked for offside, all other decisions are up to the managers to call. 2-3 challenges per match like tennis. If you make an error, you lose the VAR challenge for the game. It also becomes a tactical element to the game too. It alleviates the pressure of referees having to decide when it's used and puts the onus on the teams.

    • @pickle_soup160
      @pickle_soup160 ปีที่แล้ว

      The NFL implements point 3 pretty much as you described it. Each NFL team starts a game with two challenges, with the possibility that a third challenge will be added to their quota before the end of the game. To get the said third challenge, head coaches of the teams in play must be successful in both of their first two challenges. Some things like scoring plays, and turnovers, are automatically reviewed. It works pretty well.

    It's a tricky one. Ramifications have to exist for these 'human errors' but threatening to sack VAR officials will only lead to more mistakes due to stressful conditions. I think it's a case of what's more unfair - changing the results post-match and having one team (in this case Brentford) feel disgruntled, or have Arsenal potentially lose the league because of 1 or 2 points.

    • @benhayes5396
      @benhayes5396 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is even more unfair.
      A team at 1-1 and a team at 1-0 down will play completely differently.
      If Brentford has the goal disallowed then they would’ve played far more attacking, in the same way if it was disallowed in the final 10 minutes arsenal would be more defensive.
      So you can’t just change the score post match, it’s life and you have to accept that an error cost you a few points.
      VAR isn’t perfect and needs to be reviewed, but look back to before VAR and how many points were lost/gained from tight offsides, tight fouls etc.
      Yes VAR should do better as they can look back on incidents, but the moment they start changing results due to errors, the sport is done.

      @@RedditGrapevine again that would be unfair on the teams fighting against Brentford.
      If Brentford get Europe by 1 point then how is that fair on a team like Brighton or Chelsea who missed out when Brentford should’ve lost that game.
      Sadly you can’t just give points retroactively as it is unfair to the other 18 teams in the league.
      For example, what if a player should’ve got a yellow against 1 team, that was his 5th yellow and he would’ve been suspended against the next team. He then scored in the next game and got his team the win.
      Do you then take away the point from the next game???
      Errors happen, and luck is a big part of winning a title, from injuries to wonder-goals (Kompany’s long shot comes to mind).
      It is frustrating to lose out on 2 points but think of the fact Eriksen got his ankle destroyed by Andy Carroll in a cup game, or the Fernandes goal against City that should’ve been offside.
      It’s part of football and you just have to accept it and move on.
