If the bars are set right and you know what you are doing, it doesn’t hurt at all. Doing a back hip circle today is very similar to what it felt like to do a “cast wrap” on the close bars. I don’t know where you heard it could give you cancer. If you hit the bar where your uterus is, the bars are far too close and you wouldn’t be able to do much on them . They spread the bars farther because women wanted to do bars more similar to men and a giant swing was not possible with bars very close. You couldn’t get the momentum. P.S. I was a gymnastics coach in the 80’s. Also, the bars didn’t hurt my fertility one bit 😁.

I LOVE the older gymnastics, primarily 70s they 90s. There were graceful dance moves involved and that was part of the appeal for me. Now the women's gymnastics is more like the men's - just a lot of running and power flipping. No grace whatsoever. I have no interest in modern gymnastics. I find it soooo boring. Oh wow Simone biles did another flip 20 feet off the ground cuz the floor has springs in it! I'd love to see how she'd do with the floors they used back in the old days.

Older ones being Grace seems like an excuse. The moves were more boring and basic in the past
Try imagining some of those 70’s gymnasts doing Simon Bike’s moves on a springy floor.

Gymnastics haven't "changed for the better", but for the worse. There has never been so little art and elegance in artistic gymnastics. I miss the times when there was less of a jumpin festival with all those pumped up stumps but more of the beauty, grace and expression of the earlier days. I love to watch the Caslavskas, Korbuts and Tourishchevas, and I turn the TV off when I see these Biles', Lees and Andrades of today's gymnastics.

@@amuroray9115 Well - that's the difference between artistic gymnastics and acrobatics. I don't watch artistic gymnastics to see "hard work". I watch it to see beauty and elegance in strength. I watch it to see elegant yet strong young ladies, not pumped up power machines that look like midgets. And believe it or not - artistic gymnasts some 50 years ago did as much hard work to become masters of their craft. They just set different priorities. Priorities that focused on what I think should be the essence of artistic gymnastics: expressing yourself through sportive art. That's my opinion. Like it or leave it.
