It also depends on how much money you want to spend. For gears you'll spend $150-$200 for parts + installation which could double the price easily depending on the shop rate. If you can do mods yourself or have a friend to help outyou will save a lot of money.
Great video. I'm looking at an 05 GT to purchase as my recreational ride. I've only owned Honda products for the past ten years (incidentally noted the 8G AV6 coupe @ 1:11 in the video) and the GT will share garage space with my 16 TLX V6 and 15 MDX SH-AWD. I'm looking forward to researching all the upgrade and performance potential for the GT. Thank for this video presentation.
Have you guys tested this on an automatic GT? I have a 2006 GT with an automatic and I'm looking to do some suspension work to it but don't really know what to put on it becasue I drive it every day but I want to set it up for the road course on weekends. Thanks keep up the great work!!
Try 3.90 gears instead of 4.10. You will still have good street manners, good highway manners and your engine won't be so high up in the rpm's when going on long drives.
That's funny the 05-09 mustang did 0-60 in 5 sec when it was stock. So with the bolt on power package and the acceleration modifications he was only able to do what the car does stock. New driver, I think so.
Believe just the ‘05-‘06 (GT) manuals came with 3:55s. The rest of ‘05-‘09s were 3:31. However, 3:55 was an option for manual GT cars ‘07-‘09. I’d love 4:10s, but my car is a daily highway runner, so I went with with the 3:73s.....also went ahead and had the Trac-Loc rebuilt while putting the new gears in the rear.
Frank- Yes, those gears and a good dyno tune make a noticeable difference. I too noticed (after the tune) that the shifts were super smooth too. Glad it worked out for you and you’re happy with the results.
@@weaintfree yeah,..the dyno is coming next year..too close to having to store it for the winter now. One question, (don't know if you know)..interested in either a muffler delete or shorty headers, have outlaw dynaflows on it now, just want that more throated sound without having to go long pipes and mess with the catalytic converter. Thx for any input!!
@Frank Yes, you probably want to avoid the long tubes. On the 3 valves engines in these cars it’s a major job and Not something that you’re going to do in an afternoon in your driveway. It’s about day and half to two days labor in a shop. Also, had O2 sensor issues. Finally, my professional tune person had to go in and delay the sensors to keep it from throwing a code. Then God forbid your tranny has to be worked on or replaced you’re going to have a fortune in labor again just to drop the tranny. I ran long tubes with flow master 40s. Got a lot of compliments on how the car sounded.....especially under throttle. I know H pipes are suppose to give more of a traditional muscle car sound. The X pipes are suppose to be more of a rasp. I’ve heard those running off road (catless) X-pipes...they’re loud and raspy, but I do Not care for that sound. You can get catted x & h pipes. That will sound better than the stock system. You could always add dumpouts to your exhaust. Make it good and loud when you want it to. The dumps can also though can affect ground clearance some. I would avoid going full open exhaust as that can be damaging over time. Some back pressure is good as well as can help you get max power out of your set up. I really like how my set up. Only other considerations were possibly dumps and cams. Honestly, Not being built up, the cams would take away from low end performance.....but would make it sound beautiful. Though that would be a chunk of change for sound w/o really gaining performance. Maybe some shorties w/ a good H pipe and high flow mufflers. I wanted mine to be 1) sound good 2) be loud .....but Not annoying as all get out in the cabin. I hope this helps.
Gears are personal preference. I wouldn't say its for people who are just starting, you can do it but I'd do after doing some things. I would start with an intake, exhaust and tune. Then go from there. It all depends on what you plan on doing with your car. Is it a daily driven car that you might take to the track once or twice a month? Do you drive a lot of miles or is it a weekend car? 3.73's is a smaller jump from the stock and would help acceleration but not hurt gas as much.
too bad that thing won't have good top end at all now with 4:10s. 3:55s are good with a blower like my 03 cobra....anything naturally aspirated and 3:73s should get the job done just fine. I'd rather not be running 3000 rpms at 70 mph
I'd go with the 4.10's. Some people say that's too high, but Cobras have a 6th gear. So that should help keep the little bit of MPG you have already. lol
I'd like to drive a GT with 4.10s one day to see how different it is than mine. I have 3.73s in my 5-speed GT and I think they're perfect for a DD. I average 21 MPG to a tank, and still definitely pull harder off the line.

xS3DAT3DX V3N0Mx if you can afford a nice, low miles cobra, I'd say go for it. Easy to make a lot of power if you have the money. Hello I'm in need to replace my clutch in my 05 gt want to upgrade stage2 better shifter for better take off when on the high way what would you reckon man on what to get for not hurting the gas mileage I use this car for car show invent s so i have to drive it.
One of the issues I have with 4.10 gears in the new mustangs (I have a '05 GT) is that with the wide ratio transmission first gear is so low...I also have 4.10's in my '65 Hipo Mustang and with the close ratio toploader 4 speed it is much better.....(fyi Close ratios have a higher first gear then the next 3 gears are more closely spaced, which make for a quicker 1/4 mile time and better in the twisties too)..I wish Ford would have put a close ratio tranny as an option at least.
first gear really is short with the 4:10's. you'll need the LSD to lock those back wheels or you're not going to go anywhere. I've got both and they are great.
Jorge, first off congrats on the Mustang! That is freaking awesome, and of course it is still cool, especially since you got yourself a GT. Now that you got the Mustang, its time to Mod her out and make her your own. Do you have any ideas on what you would like to do?? - Matt
Jorge Gonzalez older mustangs beat all in the cool points. get urself a 70s fastback and the ladies will turn their heads. along with their jealous boyfriends lol
The 06 Mustang GT is way cool. I have a Windveil blue one, dual white striped bumper to bumper, Hurst short throw shifter like the one in the video, suspension mods, brake mods, aluminum drive shaft, and a Roush super charger. It makes 473hp to the ground and is a blast to drive.
Factory GT 05-09 gears are 3.31s not 3.55s......and you should be looking at around mid 4s for 0-60 with all the stuff you've put on. Not anything in the 5 second range. I am always hard pressed to trust your guys in house numbers. No offence
3.55s or 3.73s, I personally wouldn't go with anything much higher. Your best bet is to talk with the shop you'll be getting them installed by to get a second opinion and go from there. -Zach
+Football For you All the mods you see her minus the short shifter! You will actually notice an even bigger improvement using the tune! Hope this helps! - Will

3.73s-4.10s depends on how much highway driving you do
anyone have any advice, I recently got a 2006 Mustang Gt premium. is it still cool? should i have gotten a newer model? 88,000 miles and 13,000
Jorge, first off congrats on the Mustang! That is freaking awesome, and of course it is still cool, especially since you got yourself a GT. Now that you got the Mustang, its time to Mod her out and make her your own. Do you have any ideas on what you would like to do?? - Matt
thanks a lot, so far i got a black decklid panal and chrome hood pins both from americanmuscle.com and of course tinted windows.
What exhaust does this car have on it? I have one just like it but with white stripes. i have to have that exhaust!
Pypes X pipe and axel back
What mods does the car have on the exterior
Make an acceleration pack for '99-'01 SVT Cobra's plz :/
Body kit ?
What kind of app are you using on your IPad ?
What spoiler is that
Factory GT 05-09 gears are 3.31s not 3.55s......and you should be looking at around mid 4s for 0-60 with all the stuff you've put on. Not anything in the 5 second range. I am always hard pressed to trust your guys in house numbers. No offence
3:31 for auto
3:55 for manual gt
What size wheels are those?
damm what exhaust setup is that
hows it pulling?
What gears would u recommend for auto 2006 gt roush supercharged city driving
3.55s or 3.73s, I personally wouldn't go with anything much higher. Your best bet is to talk with the shop you'll be getting them installed by to get a second opinion and go from there. -Zach
Yes, it will have some effect. How much depends on your right foot.
god damn this makes me wanna step up from 3.73s to 4.10s
I would suggest 4.10s if you are under 400 N/A, after that you may have traction issues off the line even with good tires and suspension.
@@luismaha3449 I have traction issues all the time,,,but I love it lololol
Mmmm.... torch red is such a hot color. ;-)
How do i improve acceleration on a '07 Mustang GT with an automatic gear box?
Same parts except for the shifter, it should still work great
+Football For you All the mods you see her minus the short shifter! You will actually notice an even bigger improvement using the tune! Hope this helps! - Will
Start by adding a tune then add bolt on performance parts as you can.
What kind of wheels?
I recently bought 2006 Automatic Gt that was converted to a stage 3 Roush Supercharged, CAI, Suspension etc What do you recommend I do as far as mods?
Joe Griego 75 mm throttle body, long tube headers, stage 3 cams with a computer tune. sct is a good tuner. 5 speed manual with stage 3 clutch, cowl hood, short throw shifter and if u need that little extra nos kit. you got a good car but ditch the autos buddy
Upgrade the brakes and rotors and add an aluminum drive shaft.
Best color imho.
I want this job SOO bad!!
how much do 4.10s affect our mpg when your not on it?
Luis Estrada When you are just cruising in the car, they will definitely decrease your MPG, but it is nothing crazy! In most cases it is about a 1-3 MPG decrease. Hope this helps. - Will
Ok im definetly getting them in the near future thanks for the reply
AmericanMuscle.com
Luis Estrada
+AmericanMuscle.com will 4.10's work good on my auto 3v?
kinda seems like it should be lower than 5 with all of those bolt ons considering the power and acceleration difference...
Is that a cervini body kit anyone? Correct me if Iam wrong. Also how much for it?
I got 4.9 and a 13.3 with tires intake and exhaust
Manual or auto?
i love this car :X
I like this car.
