    Simple reasons to go with a V6 over the V8:
    - Better gas milage (good for long racing or road trips)
    - Lighter, especially over the front end, which results in better weight distribution. This makes it better for racetrack (non-drag) builds
    - A lot Cheaper to buy
    - Cheaper to run
    - More reliable
    Simple reasons to go with the V8:
    - Better soundtrack
    - More torque
    - More power
    - Style points
    - Murica
    There are pros and cons to each.

    Going from a 4 cylinder Jetta to a stock 07' V6 is crazy fast to me. Only thing I miss about my Jetta is the little bit a gas it sipped. My Mustang is thirsty but it's so worth it. I love all the v6 hater comments. At the end of the day there's 3 people here:
    1) people that have v6's and looking for something for THEIR car.
    2) people who like mustangs in general to see what's out there for the market.

    Nice build.. Yea 4.0's don't have the monster HP #'s but I think the v6 is pretty nice.. Ive driven a bunch of the 4.0 stangs and yea they aren't a v8 but with THE RIGHT mods can be made to be ballsy car.. All the mods done in the vid were a pretty good picks but heres what I would have changed.. I would have gone all steada stuff,upper and lower control arms,third link and brace,X5 ball joints,ultralight hood,ultralight springs,s&s and their stock upgrade brake kit and some SS brake lines and wouldn't have picked the Pypes m80 exhaust because in some states its not legal to have a strait thru muffler but replaced it with a Dynomax chambered or VT dual conversion to get rid of the exhaust drone when cruising and they are both 50 state legal or stuck with a single out replacement muffler to get the sound and a little better flow.I would like to see the tune on a stock engine with CAI,Throttle body,shorty headers,demon ignition and wires on a single exhaust to see if the HP to money ratio is worth it...Think about it the extra weight of a dual exhaust system on a 4.0..something to think about! . My one beef with the 4.10 is yea they can pull better but they get much higher RPM on the highway.. I would have kept the stock gearing or gone with a 3.42 rear gear and spent a bit on some shorty headers and a throttle body so that lower to mid rpm pull is nicer since the cars TQ is catered for idle to 4k and it needs a bit less gear to pull in its sweet spot or get a used 8.8 with 3.31..another rear end option since the 8.8 comes with better axles and have a trac-loc diff..The enemy of the 4.0 is adding weight to it so the power to weight ration is key..yes it looks cool to add 20 inch wheels and huge tires but theres a few things t think about if ya want driveablity and a performance boost and this thinking goes for v8 stangs too..

      My 2005 Ranger 4.0 has the Performance Distributor coil pack, with their wires, K&N CAI, Gibson cat-back. If I keep it floored on on-ramp it throws an over rev code. They said it has a higher dwell time built in the Foxbody 5.0 TFI, I didn't ask if the pack has it built in. A quick swap back and it doesn't do it. I ordered it with 3.55 posi rear gear.

    I just bought a 06 mustang v6. The guy I bought it from did not know much about the history on the car. I am in my sixties and have had a few hot rods in my day. And some damn fast motorcycles. So I knew this car felt fast. The car has a cold air intake, dual exhaust and a bama tuner on it. That is all I know of. How ever my cousin just bought a brand new 2019 ford mustang gt and I outran him quarter mile and top end. He is furious lol. I wonder what else has been done to this car. I am planning to get official numbers at a local drag strip soon. By the way this is the first Ford I have ever owned and it is making me smile everytime I drive it. Reminds me of the good old days. It really sounds more like a v8 than a v6 with the dual exhaust. Most v6's sound like a mad bee in a can or worst. Best thing also I paid under two thousand dollars for it. Everything works on the car including the a/c. Only thing it needs is a paint job. It is faded and clear coat peeling.

    I just bought an 09 V6, they're a very good deal right now. It does feel like it's missing a little something, but im definitely not trying to make V8 power, if i was i would have bought a GT. I do plan on an exhaust and a cold air intake, which this video helped me to decide which to go with. They're great cars, and i think with just a bit of an HP bump, the one i bought is going to be perfect

    I got a V6 and love it, and with mods i CAN beat my buddies 5.0, unfortunately, his car is just as open to mods as mine, so once he added his gears, and tune etc, he stomped me all over again.
    So though true it's a lovely car, in the long run beating a modded 5.0 may just not be there, however a stock 5.0 all day long.
    Mustang is a mustang, if you complain about people driving a 3.7L v6, then go hate on hondas, and toyotas and the likes
    It's not just removing 2 cylinders, it's new age technology, back in the old days, 8 cylinders were pushing 100hp and that was impressive, now we have 4 cylinders pushing out over 500 at the crank, so don't judge just by the amount of cylinders in the car, judge by the technology of the engine, and how much more efficient it is

    I just wish more people understood that the V6 “muscle” cars are really sports cars, with a lighter and more fuel efficient engine to help with longer drives and actually being able to take it to a track or something, compared to the V8’s which are made basically to throw you back in your seat and rip the 1/4 mile.

      as stereotypical as it may sound, i say go with an intake first. i don't really know what you're working with but that's generally what most people do. i myself saved up my money and got a BBK intake and Pypes true dual exhaust system together. both added a lot of sound and some power. the only thing i would do differently is not get the Pypes and go with something else. at first i liked it because it dramatically woke up my 4.0 but it had high drone. i was younger at the time and i thought it was cool but now that i'm older its pretty damn annoying. i'm currently looking for solutions to bring down the drone to a tolerable level before resorting to purchasing an entirely new system.

    • @krazy7489
      @krazy7489 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      thesilentmordecai dang. Thanks for your opinion man! I will most likely do the air intake and then find a suitable exhaust that won't be too loud but louder than stock. Thanks again! btw is the v6 any better than the gt on gas? just curious

    • @thesilentmordecai
      @thesilentmordecai 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      WatchMeRod no problem. yeah, just do your research and make sure that no one really complains about loud cabin noise/ drone from the exhaust system and you'll be good. as far as gas mileage goes there is a lot of different variables. i have an automatic V6 and i would say that i (or anyone for that matter) is probably the biggest variable. as long as you dont mash on it constantly you can get decent mileage. my mom also has an 05 GT mustange but hers is stick shift. even though she has 100hp more than me she gets just as good if not better because she droves carefully and its a manual so it just naturally more efficient. i know its not the best answer but its all i really have to go on. however i did notice a difference in fuel economy when i did those two upgrades. not an amazing amount but ill save what i can when i can. hope it helps and good luck with your mods.

    When you consider this v6 comes with 210 hp and the 04 Gts only had 260 hp giving it any help would make it keep up with the older V8s.
    Looking to finally get another mustang and I'm really torn. The 05-10 body style is my favorite BY FAR but exhaust note is also important to me there is no better sounding engine than the 4.6 big price difference between the new edge and the 05+. You can get a new edge GT easily cheaper than an 05+ v6 model so i gotta decide what I want more a V8 or the body style I want. I don't race or speed but I light the tires from time to time and love a good loud exhaust. I'll probably end up going for an 05 v6 with a manual trans. Quick enough to be fun but nothing special and itll look good. Who knows.

      Good point, but horsepower though important isn't everything, the right tune, the right gearing, and 200 horses is plenty for a nice quick responsive ride. You can trim time off a 0-60 just with the right tune and not add a lick of horsepower. No it will never be a gt500 but you know everyone doesn't need or want that kind of performance, unless your on the track you shouldn't need anything more than what this car offers anyways.

      Coils do not add horsepower, they’re better for starting and smoother idle like the tuner said in the video. If you want power, go for long tube headers, performance axleback, and a nice bama tune. That got me easily 30+ HP with 93 octane.

    I presume these numbers are wheel horse power figures? At the crank a V6 should be making 210.
    The only way to make big power gains in a V6 is with a Vortech supercharger bolt on kit. With engine mods and the bolt on, it's possible to get 350bhp approx from a V6. Would cost about $10k to do though.

    The numbers may look impressive, but in reality the car won't be noticeably faster (without the gear swap in the rear end). The gear change is what's making the most difference. I'm not trying to sound like I'm bashing the parts, because the truth is I'm guilty of adding pretty much all of the same bolt ons. The issue is cost per performance gained. Most of the parts cost in the $300 plus range and some are even more than that. They probably spent $1500 or more for that 22 hp gain, and that's not including the labor for those that don't turn a wrench. So by the time you've spent enough money to just be close to equal as a 5.0, you could have just bought a GT. and the aftermarket for a 5.0 is almost unrivaled.
