I have a 2011 A5 that has this periodic issue with no dash lights no power at all and won’t start or crank. Every so often I can hear what sounds like arching/sparking under the steering column by my feet. If we slam the trunk, hood and doors most of the time it will start. Your video sounds like the right area of focus. Just wondering if you took the relay and switches apart to check the contacts for burns etc. Has the repair continued to work?

Hi Thanks for the video , I have a 2003 Audi TT battery is good car does not crank at all no clicking nothing and the centre lcd display is not working in between the speedo and tachometer but the two smaller lcd work fine so I presume I have the same problem ?? Don't perform maintenance on a circuit board without using an EMI wrist band and grounded workstation or you're going to be doing this repair when it shits the bed again in a couple months. I'm an avionics technician/QA inspector, I know what I'm talking about.
I’ll bet , you end up breaking yours. No offense but everybody who’s ever tried to tell me how to do something that I mentioned in my video generally ends up breaking these.. it’s happened about 10 times out of the couple of hundred that I fixed and every single one of them people were the ones that told me how to do something or tried to tell others how to do something. Theses waiver boards are not like other wafer boards as a matter of fact, I wasn’t even trying to recommend that people do it themselves because they’re very very fickle you’ll see . Hi from Australia!!! I think inhave something similar going on with my wife's Q7 4L. It had an intermittent issue not wanting to start. It then completely stopped while driving. Park and hazard lightsbstill work but nothing comes on with the key. Its throwing a 00576 code on the scanner. Could this module be the culprit?
It be nice if you understood automobiles instead of trying to tell somebody About something that you don’t understand This is the same controller in several different models…… It’s a huge conspiracy between auto manufacturers to manufacture as many of the same thing as possible that’s how they save money and make more money…… that’s why they use the same part over several makes and models doesn’t have anything to do with it being a Q7 B4 B6 B7 blah blah blah

What's the name and part # for this whole module? Seems you can just remove and replace just the module? Am I thinking wrong? I would sincerely appreciate your reply.
You cannot remove and replace the module. You can only repair the module…. You can send me the module I can repair the module. But it cannot be replaced because if you replace it, then it Hass to be reprogrammed to the other seven Ecm’s in the vehicle …. Which will cost you about $800 at the Audi dealership. If they will even do it most of the time they won’t do it because the way that they fix them is to replace the whole steering column. It was never intended for it to be repaired by Audi so Audi will sell you and install a whole steering column for the low low price of about $26-$2800. . Lol yes for $2800 they do ........ if you take yours out you can ship it to me and for a small fraction of that I will repair it The other problem is if you get a different unit you will have to have the car towed to the dealership and then they will charge you about $600 to re-program it , and if you do that because you used a used component we will have the same problem again, You can get a new one off of eBay but once again it will need programming and it’s more expensive than what I charge to repair your original one that should be plug and play If you need any help with this you can reach out to me on Clays AC and auto repair on the Facebook then send me a direct message I I will give you instructions it’s super easy to get fixed it only takes a couple days of shipping
@@sharpcarco my batery is ok. my ECU is dead so I had it repaired and put everything ok, but when it arrived she read everything right, but she didn't sync the key. then I asked someone to synchronize the key and ended up deleting something on the panel in which nothing appears.
I have a no communication with my scan tool and ECM... I see the procedure you did at the begining... Question is can I even begin to go in your direction if I have no communication with the ECM? Or would that circuit problem and bad relay cause me to have a no communication?
No one fortunately I would not go the direction I did because more than likely it’s not going to be the same problem. Unless you’re able to communicate with the controllers using the same process I did of scanning the vehicle without the key turned on
Yes it would still have to be programmed that’s why in the video I talk about sending them to me and I fix them. No programming will be needed. It’s cheaper than steering column to
i have a question my husband did the repair and put it back it started and turned it off the car would not start and would not clear any code, then he put the new motor in at we got the codes to clear and it started and we turned it off and now it wont start again or clear any code i think the motor is blowing but why. Man I'm in a heap of shit all the sudden.fixed my voltage regulator 6 months ago and the day before I did the work all hell broke loose. I was getting to much voltage and now I'm getting intermittent electric issues. One time it did say it was the column but yeah the speedometer isn't moving, the mileage isn't turning , sometimes the back up can works and all kinds bs. Well so that been happening since I fixed the regulator and was looking to see how to fix it and my damn alternator shit the bed again. Man that's like a 1300$ job each time and 2 times in 6 months. I love this car but man I fucking hate it with a passion and I wouldn't own anything else
My scan tool (Autel Elite) wouldn’t read the VIN but I used manual input and was able to scan for faults and found 11 faults in the Kessy module. Erased them and the steering wheel motor made its noise and I was able to start and drive the car. Snap On Zeus couldn’t do it.
@@sharpcarco I’ve always done maintenance and turned away anything involved on European. I bought the Autel last month and a new Zeus to replace my Solus. Been doing a ton of European cars with the influx of out of starters moving into the area. Got this 05 A6 Avant towed in last week. Guys said he turned off the engine with the car in drive then with the engine off put it into park? Claims parking brake was also stuck on. Had all the symptoms of your video but wouldn’t read the VIN so I wasn’t sure if it was the module or something else. It works fine now. I wonder if he caused it to throw a fault code with the shifter.
UPDATE- module definitely bad. Moved the car and started/stopped the engine several times. Customer came to pick it up and it was back no start, no dash lights, etc..

@@sharpcarco I totally would but the customer just paid the diag fee, told me to use my scan tool to make it work and drove it back to the guy he bought it from.
They have the same BS with the relays, and the oil house is made of some plastic(?) material which warps it so there’s an oil leak for years that only a few mechanics know about on the Audi models. I love my Audi but I spend more on diagnosis and off the wall, never heard of, problems than any car I’ve ever owned! Shame.
hi mate . my Audi S6 C6 v10 sometimes starts and sometimes doesn't , first it said , brake fault. and multiple fault codes. replaces the brake light switch. still same problem. can't figure it out. could it be related to steering wheel problem , after hitting a pothole hard while driving? or a wheel speed sensor? it's weird, sometimes it starts and sometimes it doesn't , when it starts , no fault codes, so hard to diagnose. any suggestion please? thank you for your time. I have a 2009 with no power, the key fob isn’t recognized and the hazards switch doesn’t work either. Also the high beams switch has no power any ideas would be helpful
I'm getting back to you about my 2015 Audi Q7 crank/no start. You suggested to check the RPM needle to see if it would work while cranking, and No it didn't move when cranked. You Suggested the crankshaft position sensor fault. I'm considering it, but after the car has sit for a year would I consider checking the fuel pump and injectors.....
Well you obviously want to check everything that doesn’t require spending money before you spend any money….. I am not a super Audi mechanic so I would take what I say just from experience with other vehicles I could be mistaken maybe that needle isn’t even supposed to move when you crank it but I would think that it would I don’t know of any vehicles that don’t. Because the ECM would have to be picking up the RPMs. And it should translate to the dash cluster. Like you said though check everything first if you believe it’s a fuel related problem spray some starting fluid inside the intake and if it starts up then it’s definitely a fuel problem…….

I've spend almost 5 years working on BMW's 5 and 7 series, because I've owned both; 7 series mostly. I have two 7 series right now 2006 and 2014 and then there's this Audi I bought dirt cheap and couldn't pass on it. Anyway, I do appreciate your response and insight suggestion 👍
So my 2001 Audi A4 1.8 won't start I let it sit for 2 days while I was repairing a heater hose and the car cranks like it wants to start but isn't turning over I tried jump starting it and replacing the battery but still no start just cranks but how can anything have damaged if it wasn't touched for 2 days and and before that it started

In this particular vehicle I was working on a 2007 Q7 But I found out over the past months that it doesn’t matter if you have an a6, a4 It’s pretty much a problem for every single Audi from 2004 to 2011 from what I can tell I fixed them in just about every single model. People send them to me from all over the country

I have c a 2001 A4 2.8q automatic... when I turn the key I hear a soft (for lack of a better word) click, like the battery is dead but it isn’t. The thing is when I key turning the key it will always start sometimes it just takes 10+++ turns off the key... does that sing like it needs a new starter (I already changed the ignition switch;; that was my first thought)... thanks for any info/help you can offer! Oh man thanks very much for the kind words I greatly appreciate them. No Brandon I don’t have much experience with that but it certainly sounds like you need a new starter and the way you change the starter is you remove the front bumper cover the radiator support and support the engine up remove the passenger side motor mount and alternator and you will be able to get to the bolts that hold the starter in. I’m pretty sure it’s the same procedure for the 3.0 and 3.2+ your 2.8 if I remember correctly but it’s been a number of years since I did one
Hey I got an 06 a4 Quattro that has a starting issue. It’s not battery or alternator. Wen I put the key in sometimes dash lights come on and sometimes they don’t. But when I wiggle the key in the ignition it’s like a shortage or something. What do you think is the problem. Please help.
Hey how are you doing man I’m really sorry I don’t have experience with that particular situation but from what you’re saying it sounds like you have a loose connection on the back of your ignition or a broken wire behind the ignition have you ever installed a remote starter or some kind of aftermarket alarm? That could be a possibility as well I doubt it’s the start control module like what I showed in this video Because with the Start control module Wigle in the key will not work that I am sure of I wish I could be of more help God bless and have a great day

First off, they didn’t make them when I made this video Second with it engaged, it will constantly drain your battery, even if you put that eliminator in there . It’s not the way it was intended to function hack jobs end in problems and these cars got plenty of them. They don’t need more. But hey, to each their own . I’ve definitely urban engineered a few things in my life
my a6 got flooded via sunroof, ever since sometimes starts sometimes doesn't. I replaced all relay switches under the steering wheel, replaced all fuses to new ones, replaced comfort module as water got via seat under the floor, and corrosion was visible inside the module. Replaced all relays inside engine bay (2 boxes), still doesn't start properly. Next step change starter motor to a new one. (alternator board was replaced with new one)... Battery new, ... i just don't know, if no change with new starter motor - scrap only - no more audi ever.

Sorry it’s called a Start control module you can order them off of eBay for about $170 but you’re going to spend anywhere from $200-$400 to have the vehicle programmed plus towing You can go to the junkyard and sometimes you can get lucky and get one for four or $500 and replace the whole steering column but once again it will have to go to the dealership to be reprogrammed

hey quick question i got no crank no start but ac its on and radio and light and it recognizes the ignition is on any idea on what to look at? i tried testing the two up front relays using a 12v and cable and they both clicks.

Hey! My 2017 Audi Q5 2.0T will not start and displays an error on the dash saying: "Do not drive - power steering failure!" with a red symbol. Can you help me solve this? Can I send you the computer to repair it? I've tried to replace the power steering computer but can't seem to get it to reset.
What scanner will work on it? You say you can’t use the cheeper ones but what one do I need to get? Will the 150 dollar one work or does it need to be the stupid 5000 dollar one?
@@Bloodbird_ My mech did it in 10 minutes with genuine VCDS and cable, didn't even did the magic with beamlights/hazard/brake. To my knowing it's impossible with bluetooth scanner and I tried two OBD2 cables with various software and it did not hooked up. Probably could worked with a proper cable, but had no time to order another one.
Question is where did your mechanic……. Learn how to do it? I hope you say the clay way but anyway….. it took me a long time to figure it out and before I made this video I don’t think anybody knew how to really do it I talk to some people that I am friends with because of my channel from over in the UK. And one of them sent me a thread because they thought they read something about resetting it. Anyways great to hear it hopefully you will consider repairing it with me. Well it only took me three or four days To figure this problem out and make a video about it , I guess I’m not worth 30 minutes of your time to help you fix your car for free..... even though you spelled it wrong I’m assuming that U mean I talk too much I guess U could just go watch somebody else’s video.......... oh wait I doubt you can since I was the first one in the world to do this..... but hell there’s probably tons of them now because duplication is the best form of flattery.
Well no I do not....... but from what I know about fixing evaporators and many other automobiles I would have absolutely no interest in replacing one of them in any Audi.... I say that jokingly with a smile on my face because I fix them quite frequently probably five or six a year. And they are never any fun and I can’t imagine how much fun they would be on an Audi Q7. It would be located under the dash meaning everything would have to be removed and I’ve taken several pieces off of the Audi Dash and haven’t even begun to see the evaporator so I can’t imagine it’s an easy job but I can look it up maybe it only calls for a couple of hours and it’s possible it could be easy but I highly doubt it
You are the first one that I saw who did a video on this. I wish you have done this in November 2014 as that’s when my 2005 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro did exactly what happened to you (it won’t start). I could’ve repaired my Audi and not sold it to a used auto parts place.

Hey Clay! I did this repair exactly how you have done it here in your videos regarding this issue. I had new switches and relay installed on my board and re-installed my steering column. I still have the same issues. I am not able to my code reader to connect even when I have my lights, flasher and foot on the brake. Any recommendations?
@@sharpcarco No sir. I have tried with the key off, key on, key out of the ignition all with no luck. The scanners are not able to connect/communicate with the car. I have tried my cheap hand held scanner to my expensive bluetooth OBD scanner, also tried the Bosch handheld scanner you can use at O'Reillys....not sure if this matters but the spring actuated mechanism inside the lock cylinder was closed where yours was open so you could see the microswitch. Not sure if that has anything to do with it?....Also not sure if I should load it up on a trailer and take it to my local import shop to see if they will hook up their vag com and see if that will work? Maybe since I haven't been able to clear the codes it still wont allow communication?
@@sharpcarco Update: I hauled it to my local import shop so they could hook up their vag com. They were able to get the system to communicate with VagCom and clear the codes and its up and running! So you do need a high tech scanner for it to work properly, at least in my case.

Hello. You’re probably not gonna believe me when I tell you this. Even though it seems like your battery has plenty of power I doubt it does. Hook the video call up to a battery charger or try to start it by jumping it. I hope that works out for you I’m quite certain from what you’re saying that that is the problem at least it should be I’m sorry if it’s not

I made a couple mistakes in this video it was my first one about the subject I later realized you do not need to remove the Screws while the box is installed to the steering column so there’s no need to do that procedure on your knees trying to take them two screws out drop the steering column down flip it over pull the two little screws that hold the box to the steering column itself and the little screw that holds the lock mechanism last and it will come off without even removing the steering column but on the A8 you can just remove The little Ford thing on the top of the steering column once it’s flipped over and pull the whole steering column out really easy I do have video of this under my Audi playlist it will have a different thumbnail picture
Unfortunately it generally only last until the next time you turn off the key but sometimes you can get lucky and it will last for a couple days but you never know when you’re going to break down that’s why it needs to be fixed properly
Oh and by the way I’ve never had the car shut off once the key is turned in you clear the codes. Meaning it never shut off on me while I was driving it down the road

Hi from Australia!!! I think inhave something similar going on with my wife's Q7 4L. It had an intermittent issue not wanting to start. It then completely stopped while driving. Park and hazard lightsbstill work but nothing comes on with the key. Its throwing a 00576 code on the scanner. Could this module be the culprit?

You cannot remove and replace the module. You can only repair the module…. You can send me the module I can repair the module.
But it cannot be replaced because if you replace it, then it Hass to be reprogrammed to the other seven Ecm’s in the vehicle …. Which will cost you about $800 at the Audi dealership. If they will even do it most of the time they won’t do it because the way that they fix them is to replace the whole steering column. It was never intended for it to be repaired by Audi so Audi will sell you and install a whole steering column for the low low price of about $26-$2800. .

Lol yes for $2800 they do ........ if you take yours out you can ship it to me and for a small fraction of that I will repair it
The other problem is if you get a different unit you will have to have the car towed to the dealership and then they will charge you about $600 to re-program it , and if you do that because you used a used component we will have the same problem again, You can get a new one off of eBay but once again it will need programming and it’s more expensive than what I charge to repair your original one that should be plug and play

@@sharpcarco my batery is ok. my ECU is dead so I had it repaired and put everything ok, but when it arrived she read everything right, but she didn't sync the key. then I asked someone to synchronize the key and ended up deleting something on the panel in which nothing appears.
I have a no communication with my scan tool and ECM... I see the procedure you did at the begining... Question is can I even begin to go in your direction if I have no communication with the ECM? Or would that circuit problem and bad relay cause me to have a no communication?
No one fortunately I would not go the direction I did because more than likely it’s not going to be the same problem.
Unless you’re able to communicate with the controllers using the same process I did of scanning the vehicle without the key turned on

Man I'm in a heap of shit all the sudden.fixed my voltage regulator 6 months ago and the day before I did the work all hell broke loose. I was getting to much voltage and now I'm getting intermittent electric issues. One time it did say it was the column but yeah the speedometer isn't moving, the mileage isn't turning , sometimes the back up can works and all kinds bs. Well so that been happening since I fixed the regulator and was looking to see how to fix it and my damn alternator shit the bed again. Man that's like a 1300$ job each time and 2 times in 6 months. I love this car but man I fucking hate it with a passion and I wouldn't own anything else
My scan tool (Autel Elite) wouldn’t read the VIN but I used manual input and was able to scan for faults and found 11 faults in the Kessy module. Erased them and the steering wheel motor made its noise and I was able to start and drive the car. Snap On Zeus couldn’t do it.

A6 Avant towed in last week. Guys said he turned off the engine with the car in drive then with the engine off put it into park? Claims parking brake was also stuck on. Had all the symptoms of your video but wouldn’t read the VIN so I wasn’t sure if it was the module or something else. It works fine now. I wonder if he caused it to throw a fault code with the shifter.
UPDATE- module definitely bad. Moved the car and started/stopped the engine several times. Customer came to pick it up and it was back no start, no dash lights, etc..

C6 A6 has same issue. It's aweful that Audi does not do a recall for this.
They have the same BS with the relays, and the oil house is made of some plastic(?) material which warps it so there’s an oil leak for years that only a few mechanics know about on the Audi models. I love my Audi but I spend more on diagnosis and off the wall, never heard of, problems than any car I’ve ever owned! Shame.
hi mate . my Audi S6 C6 v10 sometimes starts and sometimes doesn't , first it said , brake fault. and multiple fault codes. replaces the brake light switch. still same problem. can't figure it out. could it be related to steering wheel problem , after hitting a pothole hard while driving? or a wheel speed sensor? it's weird, sometimes it starts and sometimes it doesn't , when it starts , no fault codes, so hard to diagnose. any suggestion please? thank you for your time. I'm getting back to you about my 2015 Audi Q7 crank/no start. You suggested to check the RPM needle to see if it would work while cranking, and No it didn't move when cranked. You Suggested the crankshaft position sensor fault. I'm considering it, but after the car has sit for a year would I consider checking the fuel pump and injectors.....
Well you obviously want to check everything that doesn’t require spending money before you spend any money….. I am not a super Audi mechanic so I would take what I say just from experience with other vehicles I could be mistaken maybe that needle isn’t even supposed to move when you crank it but I would think that it would I don’t know of any vehicles that don’t. Because the ECM would have to be picking up the RPMs. And it should translate to the dash cluster.
Like you said though check everything first if you believe it’s a fuel related problem spray some starting fluid inside the intake and if it starts up then it’s definitely a fuel problem…….

I've spend almost 5 years working on BMW's 5 and 7 series, because I've owned both; 7 series mostly. So my 2001 Audi A4 1.8 won't start I let it sit for 2 days while I was repairing a heater hose and the car cranks like it wants to start but isn't turning over I tried jump starting it and replacing the battery but still no start just cranks but how can anything have damaged if it wasn't touched for 2 days and and before that it started

T15 and the bolt is very easy, the other two (T27) are hard or impossible.

In this particular vehicle I was working on a 2007 Q7 But I found out over the past months that it doesn’t matter if you have an a6, a4 It’s pretty much a problem for every single Audi from 2004 to 2011 from what I can tell I fixed them in just about every single model. People send them to me from all over the country

Oh man thanks very much for the kind words I greatly appreciate them. No Brandon I don’t have much experience with that but it certainly sounds like you need a new starter and the way you change the starter is you remove the front bumper cover the radiator support and support the engine up remove the passenger side motor mount and alternator and you will be able to get to the bolts that hold the starter in. I’m pretty sure it’s the same procedure for the 3.0 and 3.2+ your 2.8 if I remember correctly but it’s been a number of years since I did one

Hey how are you doing man I’m really sorry I don’t have experience with that particular situation but from what you’re saying it sounds like you have a loose connection on the back of your ignition or a broken wire behind the ignition have you ever installed a remote starter or some kind of aftermarket alarm? That could be a possibility as well I doubt it’s the start control module like what I showed in this video Because with the Start control module Wigle in the key will not work that I am sure of I wish I could be of more help God bless and have a great day

Second with it engaged, it will constantly drain your battery, even if you put that eliminator in there . It’s not the way it was intended to function hack jobs end in problems and these cars got plenty of them. They don’t need more.

my a6 got flooded via sunroof, ever since sometimes starts sometimes doesn't. I replaced all relay switches under the steering wheel, replaced all fuses to new ones, replaced comfort module as water got via seat under the floor, and corrosion was visible inside the module. Replaced all relays inside engine bay (2 boxes), still doesn't start properly. Next step change starter motor to a new one. (alternator board was replaced with new one)... Battery new, ... i just don't know, if no change with new starter motor - scrap only - no more audi ever.

Sorry it’s called a Start control module you can order them off of eBay for about $170 but you’re going to spend anywhere from $200-$400 to have the vehicle programmed plus towing
You can go to the junkyard and sometimes you can get lucky and get one for four or $500 and replace the whole steering column but once again it will have to go to the dealership to be reprogrammed

hey quick question i got no crank no start but ac its on and radio and light and it recognizes the ignition is on any idea on what to look at? i tried testing the two up front relays using a 12v and cable and they both clicks.

@@Bloodbird_ My mech did it in 10 minutes with genuine VCDS and cable, didn't even did the magic with beamlights/hazard/brake. To my knowing it's impossible with bluetooth scanner and I tried two OBD2 cables with various software and it did not hooked up. Probably could worked with a proper cable, but had no time to order another one.
Question is where did your mechanic……. Learn how to do it? I hope you say the clay way but anyway….. it took me a long time to figure it out and before I made this video I don’t think anybody knew how to really do it I talk to some people that I am friends with because of my channel from over in the UK. And one of them sent me a thread because they thought they read something about resetting it.

Well no I do not....... but from what I know about fixing evaporators and many other automobiles I would have absolutely no interest in replacing one of them in any Audi.... I say that jokingly with a smile on my face because I fix them quite frequently probably five or six a year. And they are never any fun and I can’t imagine how much fun they would be on an Audi Q7. It would be located under the dash meaning everything would have to be removed and I’ve taken several pieces off of the Audi Dash and haven’t even begun to see the evaporator so I can’t imagine it’s an easy job but I can look it up maybe it only calls for a couple of hours and it’s possible it could be easy but I highly doubt it
You are the first one that I saw who did a video on this. I wish you have done this in November 2014 as that’s when my 2005 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro did exactly what happened to you (it won’t start). I could’ve repaired my Audi and not sold it to a used auto parts place.

Hey Clay! I did this repair exactly how you have done it here in your videos regarding this issue. I had new switches and relay installed on my board and re-installed my steering column. I still have the same issues. I am not able to my code reader to connect even when I have my lights, flasher and foot on the brake. Any recommendations?

@@sharpcarco No sir. I have tried with the key off, key on, key out of the ignition all with no luck. The scanners are not able to connect/communicate with the car. I have tried my cheap hand held scanner to my expensive bluetooth OBD scanner, also tried the Bosch handheld scanner you can use at O'Reillys....not sure if this matters but the spring actuated mechanism inside the lock cylinder was closed where yours was open so you could see the microswitch. Not sure if that has anything to do with it?....Also not sure if I should load it up on a trailer and take it to my local import shop to see if they will hook up their vag com and see if that will work? Maybe since I haven't been able to clear the codes it still wont allow communication?
@@sharpcarco Update: I hauled it to my local import shop so they could hook up their vag com. They were able to get the system to communicate with VagCom and clear the codes and its up and running! So you do need a high tech scanner for it to work properly, at least in my case.

Jumper the relay that's next to the battery and then your scanner will connect.

Hello. You’re probably not gonna believe me when I tell you this. Even though it seems like your battery has plenty of power I doubt it does. Hook the video call up to a battery charger or try to start it by jumping it. I hope that works out for you I’m quite certain from what you’re saying that that is the problem at least it should be I’m sorry if it’s not

I made a couple mistakes in this video it was my first one about the subject I later realized you do not need to remove the Screws while the box is installed to the steering column so there’s no need to do that procedure on your knees trying to take them two screws out drop the steering column down flip it over pull the two little screws that hold the box to the steering column itself and the little screw that holds the lock mechanism last and it will come off without even removing the steering column but on the A8 you can just remove The little Ford thing on the top of the steering column once it’s flipped over and pull the whole steering column out really easy I do have video of this under my Audi playlist it will have a different thumbnail picture
How long does clearing the code last. Couple hours or days
Unfortunately it generally only last until the next time you turn off the key but sometimes you can get lucky and it will last for a couple days but you never know when you’re going to break down that’s why it needs to be fixed properly
Oh and by the way I’ve never had the car shut off once the key is turned in you clear the codes. Meaning it never shut off on me while I was driving it down the road
