    So I'm a licensed cosmetologist (specializing in mens hair) located in West Michigan.
    I just want to point out that this isn't a definitive rule of thumb. These are suggestions and they aren't always gonna be easy for every barber/stylist to pull off. So don't expect to go into a sports clips, great clips or super cuts and expect to walk out with hair like Robert Pattenson.
    My biggest advice is to poke around and find someone who understand exactly what it is you want to do with your hair. Going to a barber who specializes in skin fades and line ups isn't gonna be your best option for a mid-length textured cut. And vice versa.
    Also be ready on your end for a thorough consultation. Have pictures ready to show. Or have a general idea of what you want done. Pending on your hair length and texture, a good barber or stylist should be able to help you out from there.
    Cheers🤘
    *Edit: Also figure out what a quality haircut means to you. If a great haircut is one that takes 15 minutes, awesome. If you prefer an hour haircut with attention to detail, also awesome. Maybe you don't want to pay more than $12, sick. Regardless of what your definition of a good haircut is, find a barber/stylist who fits that description.
    (And no disrespect to anybody who works at a franchise haircut place. They are just as qualified as everyone to do an awesome job🤘)

    Went like 4 months going strong and wanted a clean up my sides (just want to grow the top] which was my mistake. I asked for a medium fade and it all went wrong so I ended up cutting my hair at home a few days after with a buzzcut 😆

    Went in to get a haircut for an event the next day. Didn't have time to go to my normal hair stylist so I decided to just get a touchup. "A touchup and clean up the edges" were my exact words. By the end of the haircut my hairline was cut back a full half inch or more... Needless to say I will NEVER get my hairline messed with ever again. The grow out phase was embarrassing and looked aweful.

    From personal experience, avoid the great clips. Pay a little more for sport clips if there's one near you.
    Also don't do an undercut, it's really easy for someone who doesn't know how to do it to cut a little too far up on the side and then it looks bad.

    When I moved to a new country and barely spoke the language, I booked the only hairdresser that accepted online reservations because of phone call anxiety. Had no idea how to communicate which cut I wanted and was resigned to my fate of just getting a buzz cut at best or a hack job at worst. The hairdresser reassured me using the only two words in English she knew: "don't worry". I walked out of there with the best damn Caesar cut I've ever seen with a flawless fade and perfect, bouncy curls on top. I left the fattest tip, decided to pay more attention to my hair from that point on, and have been a customer there for almost a decade.

    My barber is great if we said what we want, for example we said we want a fade or taper variant he can definetely do that.. but if we show a reference he'll definetely mess it up

    It sucks in my area NH,MA USA none of the salons specialize in men's hair even the men that work at them only know how to do women's hair or kids hair. None of the barbershops specialize in medium to long hair every place just does undercuts and skin fades or they're an older style barbershop that does a buzz cut or a shape up and that's it. No joke I've been to 9 different places saying that I want, let's see, a haircut similar to Chris Evans Captain America Avengers Endgame, kind of a pompadour quiff slick back, I provide pictures from all different angles. Everyone online has told me it's a very simple haircut. I've sent people pictures of my hair and they say it's a very simple cut I should be able to pull it off no problem. I have the right length the right hair but no one can seem to get it right. I either end up walking out with my hair completely slicked back with little to no volume or the stylist or Barber whatever literally gives up and says do you just want to do it yourself when you get home?! I found myself in some of the most awkward situations before having to tell them pretty much how to do it when I don't even know how to do it. I mean they look at it they say oh yeah that's simple but then they can't do it. I don't Fuckin get it. I actually had to stop this chick one time because she had asked that and I said no I want you to style it that's what I'm paying you for it was a very awkward situation she sighed and was trying to comb back my hair with insta dry hairspray my hair was dry she was literally ripping my hair out. I had to push her hands away and say stop put my head in the sink wash my hair again dry it and just comb it back and I told her I wasn't paying the full price the manager came out and said that was fine. To remind you these are not chain places I'm going to no Supercuts no Great Clips sometimes I wonder if I'll have better luck there, probably not but these are all 5 star reviewed salons and barbershops that I go to. Paying anywhere from $30 to $55 not including a tip. My hair is thin and straight but it's pretty full. It's so easy to style and work with but no one can seem to give me that cut... If anyone has any advice I'd love to hear it.

    I want a disconnected haircut but I don’t want it so obvious where almost everything is skin except the top. I like the disconnected cut of Chris Pine in the first Wonder Woman movie. The sides were disconnected but not as evident. But good luck in trying to get an average stylist to replicate that cut.

    • @edgarlucatero1553
      @edgarlucatero1553 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tell your barber you want it disconnected but leave the “sides longer/darker and NOT SKIN TIGHT”

    If you really care about your haircut do the research and find a good barber. I also think find a haircut that is very versatile and can be styled in many ways at different lengths and grows in nice.
