Wow lots have changed if the Kinston Cloud II is considered "mediocre" these days... By far the best for its price when I got it a few years back, in the "normal" wired 2.0 category of course.
I had the HyperX Cloud II for a number of years. Surprised you consider them 'mediocre' considering they are basically a clone of the Beyer DT770. Always found them pretty excellent as a gaming headset and this is from someone who uses DT880 for music production duties.
Too true, I have a couple of expensive headphones for music production, but for gaming sessions where comfort is king and convenience is a huge factor, I would never recommend anything that ISN'T the Cloud IIs. Absolutely fantastic sound, the small USB DAC moves processing out of the chassis and away from EMI, nice detachable mic, and comfort for hours. I know it's an older product, but this video is super suspect for thinking any of these headsets are better than the Cloud IIs.
Also they've recommended them so many times during the years. I also used to own a cloud II until I moved on to better stuff (philips fidelio x2 + xlr mic), and they are quite good.
I was surprised at this as well! I specifically watched this video to see if they were mentioned. I have been using the HyperX Cloud II for years now too and friends often comment on the clear mic quality. The headphones also sound great for gaming but I will often switch to some open back SHP9500s to minimize fatigue or the Sennheiser HD 25-1 II for audio crispness. Still, the HyperX Cloud II beats any turtle beach headphones I've tried by a longshot.
@TEKNOHKN I don't recommend the virtual 7.1, but it's cool they include (for free mind you) a way of moving the sound processing out of the chassis. Sure, it's not better than a dedicated desktop DAC, but it's FREE my guy you don't HAVE to use it.

Budget audiophile FTW! Though I had to admit at some point I'm thinking about getting a desk mic (there's some really cheap good ones that even include a desk arm) just so I don't have the mic attached anymore.
I got $60 HyperX headphones and they randomly stopped working after ~a month because the cable decided to crap out, though my Razer Kraken Chroma headphones did the same thing, which is why I use the MDR-7506 with a condenser mic on a mic arm.
Well my cloud 1 after a year the volume control on the cable decided that's its time has come and after I lowered the volume I never ever heard anything again. Luckily I got a refund from Amazon
Yes. Very satisfied with Cloud Alpha S just after 3 months od using it, much better than Razer kraken chroma 7.1 i had before. But i guess the tested models were from different price range
I wish these review could mention if a headset has included voice monitoring or not - it's a very important feature for a lot of people that is hardly every commented on!
The current modmic costs 50 bucks at its cheapest. Good luck getting audiophile headphones for 50$. At below 100$ you are better off buying a decent headset.
Cloud 2s are mediocre? They’re the only ones that actually have good sound quality because they’re rebranded Takstar Pro 80s with a (pretty decent) mic added in.
I'm confused as well. Can't trust anything they mentioned in this round-up after hearing that statement. Maybe they only tested it with virtual 7.1 turned on? 🤷♂️
Yeah, I had Razer, Logitech, and Steelseries headsets before, and once I got the Cloud II I am absolutely in love as I am an Audiophile. Recently got the HyperX CLoud II Wireless which is amazing as I am now able to walk around the house and keep the amazing sound quality. So I am very surprised/disapointed that they didn't think this was a good headset as I prefer HyperX above some of the reviewed headsets... The only downside I would say is that it doesn't come with a standard EQ but if you are into sound or gaming you can easily tweak this with 3rd party software.
Hard to believe that someone didn't include Cooler Master MH751/752 lol. The MH752 is all rounder whether it's for comfort, sound quality, listening to music, or for the Mic.
beats by dr. dre sold really well, while being objectively crappy... koss porta pro are still selling despite not being that good, or even best at the price point they were comparing the headsets back to back, not to mention having done reviews of different headphones previously, so i assume they would know how meh sounds
I own them and can compare them to other widely regarded non-gaming headphones that I also own. They are comfortable, have solid audio quality, and the microphone is clear. Maybe they aren't the very best headphones out of the group, but they are certianly better than meh when judged by the same criteria.
@@ossharkuenmeursault5609 beats didn't have very good competitors in their market niche, i.e. style, whereas gaming headsets have significant competition. Hyper x cloud 2's are almost best in class at around the £50-60 range. They come with another set of earcups if you don't like a faux leather and a detachable (in the right way - headphones still 3.5mm) usb sound dongle if like that pseudo 7.1/ 'expanded' soundstage (easily turned off) with the bonus of inline controls for mic, sound and mute. Also the large drivers make this one of best sounding headphones at this price point which even audiophiles would agree on regardless of the 'gaming' look they have. After i watched this, I also went back to the DankPods video "Do gaming headsets sound good?", and he was very happy with the HyperX cloud II.
Therefore I am not completely sure James gave them proper chance.
yeah plus I believe the alpha cloud are also around the same range (100-120) and they have some pretty cool headphone gear stuff happening in them
They're getting old now, and have a horrible mic- I know because I've owned them for 4 years, but otherwise they're really damn nice if you can find them for
Exactly what i was thinking. I cannot speak for the mic since i have a separate one, but the audio is fantastic, very balanced.
I have a Cloud Alpha and other than the leather coming off of the cushion ear (I just bought a new pair of cushions) the sound is great and your ears will love the lows and bass out of the Cloud series. Worth note that the quality of the plastics, cables and metal it's awesome too, I may dropped the headset a hundred times by now and not even one rattle noise inside and it fits like new.
@@derekma222 My only problem with my alphas is the knob on the cable that will lower the left ear's sound if fully in and the plastic rubbery part connecting the metal to the headset. oh and the mic's plastic is creasing but I've had them for 2 years now and my BF loves to twist the mic around

@Z E There is a virtual 7.1 switch on the dongle DAC but I always leave it off.
Hi, Blackshark user here. Just a disclaimer that the mic quality is actually much better if you plug in directly from the 3.5mm and that the soundcard does limit the quality!
what about gaming, hearing footsteps and all that with the 3.5mm, I play csgo that's and I'm considering them, that's why Im asking, any issues?

Hyper x cloud 2's are almost best in class at around the £50-60 range.
