A volleyball athlete named Aprilia Manganang (now Aprilio), who was assigned female gender at birth and raised as a female for 28 years, discovered that 'she' was actually biologically male. He had a condition called hypospadias, which prevented his penis from fully developing. Since then, he has been legally recognized as a man. Indonesia is also a muslim majority country, so we don't support LGBT. But what happened to Aprilio was purely the fault of his parents and doctors, not his own will. I suspect Imane may have the same condition. Has she been checked?

Imane Khelif is intersex. They told that Khelif had undescended testes, blind end vaginal canal (that leads to no uterus) and the “micro penis” is a clitoris hyperhtrofy. 5 alpha deficiency IS an intersex condition cause they are born with female genitalia but are genetically male. That makes them intersex. The condition makes them unable to produce DHT but they do respond to testosterone, so when they reach puberty they develop male secondary sex characteristics cause the internal testis in the abdomen produce male levels of the hormone, and this causes the clitoris to hypertrophy (like in transexual men who are born biologically female but take testosterone to develop masculine traits). However, many doctors remove the gonads from 5 alpha deficiency babies to stop male puberty from happening and they take female hormones for life, keeping their female genitalia. In those cases they develop female secondary sex characteristics at puberty and have even less advantage than other biological women, cause they have little to no androgens compared to the ovaries of a normal female that produces more testosterone. In this case, they wouldn’t have an advantage and should be allowed to compete against women. If Imane didn’t remove the internal gonads then that IS definitely an advantage towards women in sports and shouldn’t be allowed to compete, cause the male levels of testosterone and development during puberty would make Khalif physically stronger. As you can see, this is a very complicated topic and the intersex people that are born with this condition have many variables of how they live their lives. Some of them keep their female genitalia and remove their gonads before puberty and others don’t and adopt a male indentity after puberty and have corrective surgery to create a penis. I can understand how people can be upset about this topic, but making fun of Imane’s condition, calling it ugly names and making fun of it is what I don’t condone. Intersex people already go through a lot in this world…
I don't support the disrepect to Khelif. However from a merely biological point of view, Khelif has male gonades and male cromosomes, the most logical thing to do will be treatment with DHT, correct the cryptorchidism and remove the vagina. If Khelif chosed to continue as woman that was based on gender identity rather than a medical review. And we have also to clarify that among the intersex spectrum, this is a case of male pseudohermaphroditism, again meaning that biologically we lean more to the male than to the female sex.

Absolutely. I’m 62 and I only recently discovered that the boy I spent most of my schooldays with in the 1970s had DSD. We had no idea. His earliest childhood memory is of being told by his mother that he was going to hospital to have his tonsils out but waking up in a flowery dress with a bandage on his groin. After that he was raised as a boy. But in his 30s his body began to change dramatically. This whole area of DSD and intersex chromosomes is absolutely nothing to do with the whole transgender issue and needs to be treated with great care - firstly by recognising that 99.9% of us know almost nothing about it. And by not posting videos declaring someone to be a man or a woman based on an unreliable “endocrinologist’s report”.

However most people thought that this person has an intersex condition which she in fact does have. She was a woman too when she trained years to get to the olympics. The problem is that there was a sudden discovery (less then a year before the olympics) that genetically she is not a woman. Do not demonize it. A year ago she had no idea she might be a man. Should she/he resolve the situation differently? Probably yes, but do not forget that people and countries want the medails. She/he was probably pressured to silence.

This isn’t Algeria’s fault or even the intersex boxer’s fault. The IOC doesn’t have rules in place right now about intersex athletes competing so anyone who does have that condition is allowed to compete. Trans athletes are currently banned from competing at the Olympics. The IOC should do a better job of putting rules in place that outline these rare genetic mutations.

Then you are jumping to wrong conclusions and probably should read about that case a little bit more. Khelifs sex was unclear at birth (micro-penis) and, as usual in this cases, the birth certificate and later the passport labled Khelif as female. As it also often happens with such cases, they "male up" after puperty, so he probably know at this point of time, that he is not a female. However, he applied for olympics not as a transwoman, but as a bio woman and that was checked using the passport. There is a medical report from 2023 that testifies, that he never had a womb, not vagina, but also no usable penis. The chromosome test was unclear but the report mentioned, that the testosterone level was far too high for a woman. But considering that he as a passport identifying him as female, the IOC had no real grounds to deny admittance. Khelif has competed in womens-boxing for many years, before this new discussion about transpeople in womens sports was a thing (so very different case from Lia Thomas, who competed in swimming as man 2 years ago and then switched gender...he did not get admittance for the olympics!). So please do not fall into the populistic hate narative....inform yourself before making up your mind.

She looks like a guy and has been adressed as such more times than I can count and was bullied in school for her looks. She is happily married to a man a head shorter than her. She has two children who luckily inherited the looks of their father. She is the most girly, romantic woman I have ever met. Loves to crotched, cook etc. I myself, 165, 120lbs, small nose, soft chin etc...I love Krav Maga and martial arts in general, hate girly stuff etc. Looks can deceive. There are men who can easily go as woman and the other way around. Until proven, I would be very careful to judge.

Besides, this specific boxer was tested multiple times so we don't even have to go off appearances whatsoever in this case. So many people on my personal social media were screaming how women had testosterone in intense circumstances and other nonsense. Argued and fought to defend this MAN, one friend got so much backlash for not praising him and saying he was assaulting women her page was reported. Now mutual friends are tagging those people and saying "You drank the kool-aid".
I have hyperandrogenism, so the high testosterone levels in women *can* happen (I'm an example of that. I'm a cisgender woman yet I'm under hormonal treatment because of my high T levels). South Africa did the same thing for years with Caster Semenya, the track and field athlete with a very similar (if not same) condition as this Algerian boxer. Multitudes of female T&F athletes were denied medals because of South Africa's fraud. Eventually the international federation which governs the sport put an end to this fraud. The problem in the amateur boxing world is that the International Olympic Committee has created its own boxing federation to regulate that sport (in its connection to the Olympics). It used to be that the IBA governed the sport. But a Russian official runs it now, and the IOC severed its relationship to what they perceived as a Russian-controlled boxing federation.

The doctors told us that my child was intersex 1 month before birth, and that we needed to prepare for years and years of hormone therapy. It was an extremely stressful time. The genetic test showed Y chromosomes, but they told us they couldn't find my "son's" male genitals in an ultrasound, but that our baby was definitely not a girl. It was terrifying. We were preparing for a gender disorder of some sort. Talking through possibilities with genetic specialists, we got to the point where we were even praying that it was this extremely rare disorder where a female has Y lined cells, because people with that condition often don't ever even know they have it - they can still get pregnant and everything else, no treatment necessary. Figured that was the best case scenario. Even considering the worst case scenario had me in tears for the first time in many years. Thank God, my child was born a 100% normal, healthy biological girl. They determined the Y chromosome that was detected came from a vanishing twin. Needless to say, we filed complaints against the "doctor" who told us she couldn't have been a girl. She turns 1 year old tomorrow! Anyways, the point is that I now have a ton of empathy/sympathy for people who suffer from genetic gender disorders. When I heard this person was a woman with Y chromosome lined cells, I felt terrible seeing everyone calling "her" a man, imagining how mad I'd be if that was my daughter. To find out this was a lie and that they coerced me into having sympathy for a man who was beating up women on live TV is so incredibly disturbing. What a nasty thing to do. I'm genuinely offended by this. A micro-p is still an extremely unfortunate disorder that I wouldn't wish on anyone, but it absolutely doesn't excuse his presence in the ring. Shame on him and everyone who helped him get there.
He did have a birth defect. His male genitals were inside. In 3rd world countries, it is common for male babies with internal male organs to be labeled incorrectly. He was raised a girl, but went through male puberty. Yes, this deserves compassion. But the Olympics decision to allow someone who went through male puberty to box box women does not deserve compassion.

Dear anybody who is willing to listen to the nuance here, The problem here is not that she/he claimed that she/he is a woman. She/he really was a woman her/his whole life until a year ago. She/he has a rare condition when she/he looks like a woman from the outside, but really has a XY chromosomes. It happens because his/her testosterone is not in the levels that needs to be to proper development of genitalia. If we did not have medicine on the level we have, we would have never been able to recognise that. I give you an example of a father, who has a 18years-old child and suddenly was told that he is not the biological father of that child. Would we blame him if a year after that realisation he would stil consider himself the father of that child because he spent 18 years of his live caring about him? And isn't even harder when it is your whole life? And what is the real problem in this situation? For corruption reasons the qualifications to opympics were held by the individual countries and Algeria really wanted that medail despite any costs. It is the classical problem of human greedy. Do not blame it on transgenderism or anything similar. It is just a medical condition that does not fit into our boxes. Should the medal be returned? Probably yes. It is similar as with taking drugs. Should we lynch Aman becasue she feels like a woman? Probably not, because she herself does not know what she is. She is not a man either, because her penis is not visible, her muscles are not big enough and she probably cannot have children either. Should she do something else then women sports? He had a condition called hypospadias, which prevented his penis from fully developing. Since then, he has been legally recognized as a man.
Indonesia is also a muslim majority country, so we don't support LGBT. But what happened to Aprilio was purely the fault of his parents and doctors, not his own will. I suspect Imane may have the same condition. Has she been checked?

Imane Khelif is intersex. They told that Khelif had undescended testes, blind end vaginal canal (that leads to no uterus) and the “micro penis” is a clitoris hyperhtrofy. 5 alpha deficiency IS an intersex condition cause they are born with female genitalia but are genetically male. That makes them intersex. The condition makes them unable to produce DHT but they do respond to testosterone, so when they reach puberty they develop male secondary sex characteristics cause the internal testis in the abdomen produce male levels of the hormone, and this causes the clitoris to hypertrophy (like in transexual men who are born biologically female but take testosterone to develop masculine traits). However, many doctors remove the gonads from 5 alpha deficiency babies to stop male puberty from happening and they take female hormones for life, keeping their female genitalia. In those cases they develop female secondary sex characteristics at puberty and have even less advantage than other biological women, cause they have little to no androgens compared to the ovaries of a normal female that produces more testosterone. In this case, they wouldn’t have an advantage and should be allowed to compete against women.
If Imane didn’t remove the internal gonads then that IS definitely an advantage towards women in sports and shouldn’t be allowed to compete, cause the male levels of testosterone and development during puberty would make Khalif physically stronger.
As you can see, this is a very complicated topic and the intersex people that are born with this condition have many variables of how they live their lives. Some of them keep their female genitalia and remove their gonads before puberty and others don’t and adopt a male indentity after puberty and have corrective surgery to create a penis. I can understand how people can be upset about this topic, but making fun of Imane’s condition, calling it ugly names and making fun of it is what I don’t condone. Intersex people already go through a lot in this world…

However from a merely biological point of view, Khelif has male gonades and male cromosomes, the most logical thing to do will be treatment with DHT, correct the cryptorchidism and remove the vagina. If Khelif chosed to continue as woman that was based on gender identity rather than a medical review. And we have also to clarify that among the intersex spectrum, this is a case of male pseudohermaphroditism, again meaning that biologically we lean more to the male than to the female sex.

Absolutely. I’m 62 and I only recently discovered that the boy I spent most of my schooldays with in the 1970s had DSD. We had no idea. His earliest childhood memory is of being told by his mother that he was going to hospital to have his tonsils out but waking up in a flowery dress with a bandage on his groin. After that he was raised as a boy. But in his 30s his body began to change dramatically.
This whole area of DSD and intersex chromosomes is absolutely nothing to do with the whole transgender issue and needs to be treated with great care - firstly by recognising that 99.9% of us know almost nothing about it.

2. Her passport says she's a woman (and it's an Algerian passport, not exactly a woke culture country, you know).
3. This isn’t Algeria’s fault or even the intersex boxer’s fault. The IOC doesn’t have rules in place right now about intersex athletes competing so anyone who does have that condition is allowed to compete. Trans athletes are currently banned from competing at the Olympics. The IOC should do a better job of putting rules in place that outline these rare genetic mutations.

Khelifs sex was unclear at birth (micro-penis) and, as usual in this cases, the birth certificate and later the passport labled Khelif as female. As it also often happens with such cases, they "male up" after puperty, so he probably know at this point of time, that he is not a female. However, he applied for olympics not as a transwoman, but as a bio woman and that was checked using the passport. There is a medical report from 2023 that testifies, that he never had a womb, not vagina, but also no usable penis. The chromosome test was unclear but the report mentioned, that the testosterone level was far too high for a woman. But considering that he as a passport identifying him as female, the IOC had no real grounds to deny admittance. Khelif has competed in womens-boxing for many years, before this new discussion about transpeople in womens sports was a thing (so very different case from Lia Thomas, who competed in swimming as man 2 years ago and then switched gender...he did not get admittance for the olympics!). So please do not fall into the populistic hate narative....inform yourself before making up your mind.

Multitudes of female T&F athletes were denied medals because of South Africa's fraud. Eventually the international federation which governs the sport put an end to this fraud.
The problem in the amateur boxing world is that the International Olympic Committee has created its own boxing federation to regulate that sport (in its connection to the Olympics). It used to be that the IBA governed the sport. But a Russian official runs it now, and the IOC severed its relationship to what they perceived as a Russian-controlled boxing federation.

The doctors told us that my child was intersex 1 month before birth, and that we needed to prepare for years and years of hormone therapy. It was an extremely stressful time. The genetic test showed Y chromosomes, but they told us they couldn't find my "son's" male genitals in an ultrasound, but that our baby was definitely not a girl. It was terrifying. We were preparing for a gender disorder of some sort. Talking through possibilities with genetic specialists, we got to the point where we were even praying that it was this extremely rare disorder where a female has Y lined cells, because people with that condition often don't ever even know they have it - they can still get pregnant and everything else, no treatment necessary. Figured that was the best case scenario. Even considering the worst case scenario had me in tears for the first time in many years. Thank God, my child was born a 100% normal, healthy biological girl. They determined the Y chromosome that was detected came from a vanishing twin. Needless to say, we filed complaints against the "doctor" who told us she couldn't have been a girl. She turns 1 year old tomorrow! Anyways, the point is that I now have a ton of empathy/sympathy for people who suffer from genetic gender disorders. When I heard this person was a woman with Y chromosome lined cells, I felt terrible seeing everyone calling "her" a man, imagining how mad I'd be if that was my daughter. To find out this was a lie and that they coerced me into having sympathy for a man who was beating up women on live TV is so incredibly disturbing. What a nasty thing to do. I'm genuinely offended by this. A micro-p is still an extremely unfortunate disorder that I wouldn't wish on anyone, but it absolutely doesn't excuse his presence in the ring. Shame on him and everyone who helped him get there.
He did have a birth defect. His male genitals were inside. In 3rd world countries, it is common for male babies with internal male organs to be labeled incorrectly. He was raised a girl, but went through male puberty. Yes, this deserves compassion.
But the Olympics decision to allow someone who went through male puberty to box box women does not deserve compassion.

Dear anybody who is willing to listen to the nuance here,
The problem here is not that she/he claimed that she/he is a woman. She/he really was a woman her/his whole life until a year ago. She/he has a rare condition when she/he looks like a woman from the outside, but really has a XY chromosomes. It happens because his/her testosterone is not in the levels that needs to be to proper development of genitalia. If we did not have medicine on the level we have, we would have never been able to recognise that.
I give you an example of a father, who has a 18years-old child and suddenly was told that he is not the biological father of that child. Would we blame him if a year after that realisation he would stil consider himself the father of that child because he spent 18 years of his live caring about him? And isn't even harder when it is your whole life?
And what is the real problem in this situation? For corruption reasons the qualifications to opympics were held by the individual countries and Algeria really wanted that medail despite any costs.
It is the classical problem of human greedy. Do not blame it on transgenderism or anything similar. It is just a medical condition that does not fit into our boxes.
Should the medal be returned? Probably yes. It is similar as with taking drugs.
Should we lynch Aman becasue she feels like a woman? Probably not, because she herself does not know what she is. She is not a man either, because her penis is not visible, her muscles are not big enough and she probably cannot have children either.
Should she do something else then women sports? Probably yes, because it is unfair to other women. There have been other "women" in this position and they usually ended up their career.
