  • Spreading stone on a parking lot with Letsdig18's Takeuchi TL12V2. This was at a company that builds trusses and they dug out some rock and dirt a few months back to pave an area now they want to use the rock to expand some of the parking lot. I undercut a section of dirt along the back fence and placed about 6" of stone. There was around 20 loads but most of it was mud mixed in with the stone, so what was suppose to be an easy half day job turned into more of a mess full day job lol. I got it knocked down and tracked in the best that I could but it's going to have to dry and probably need more stone. Also I give a brief review of what I think about this machine, it's a beast! Thanks for watching! #EliteEarthworks #Letsdig18

    I have a similar issue with my Deere 329E. It’s 85 hp with an interim tier 4 engine and when I’m brush cutting I’m burning 4-5 gal/h at about 80% throttle. I thought this was crazy but I did some research into it and some guys in a forum I found online were comparing some Deere D models to the E models and we’re seeing significantly more fuel usage in the interim tier 4 engines compared to tier 3 that were in the D models. They called the dealer and they said this was normal. Mine 329E only has a 25 gal tank so I’m typically refueling every 4-5 hours when brush cutting. Doing Grading work it will last longer as I typically run about 60% throttle and I’m not running the the high flow either. But yeah, if you upgrade to a newer machine expect to burn quite a bit more fuel.

    I'm thinking that it's just these newer emissions engines like to drink the fuel. I have an older pre emissions Caterpillar skidsteer that has a Perkins engine and a 18 gallon tank and I can get 2 days out of a tank. I then rented a new Cat skidsteer the same exact size and model that has a Kubota engine with the emissions crap and it had a 35 gallon tank and like you said it was needing fuel before the day was over. They say that with the emissions that they burn cleaner but do they really if they're using more than twice the fuel, especially since they have to process and transport twice as much fuel not to mention manufacture the emissions equipment. My 2002 Dodge Cummins is the same 25 to 28 mpg depending on how I drive VS a new Cummins getting 14 mpg. And ya when you sped up the video you could see the mud pumping when you tracked across it. Awesome video buddy!

      Playing devil's advocate, wouldn't you do the same amount of work (like the gravel spreading) in some fraction of the time with the larger skidsteer compared to the smaller one? And to account for that rather than charging by the hour at a higher rate, charge by the ton or cy or sy?
      Let's say you have one of Letsdig's dredging jobs where you have to use the skidsteer to move the mud from the pond to the dump truck 1000 ft away. It seems you'd want the fastest skidsteer with the largest bucket cause you have an excavator that may be waiting.
      The bottom line is to make money, so obviously theoretically whichever machine generates the least total cost to do the job would be the best. But you have to consider all of the types of jobs you do.

    It's all a 'tradeoff'! Just those fuel comparisons you spoke of need to be part of the HOMEWORK 'you' need to do in consideration of upgrading to a 'newer' machine. One thing to always consider is, "NEED & WANT". Of course we all want bigger & better but like with a DOZER, do you really need one? I've seen about all of your videos and the jobs you take, other than a few, had no real use of a DOZER and you seem to make good money doing what you do. On DIRT BOSS's most recent video he used a smaller excavator and his big one would have not done the job as well. SO, only YOU can decide what you really NEED for what jobs you take, if that makes any sense to you and Mrs. E. Thanks for another one. Sonny (CT)

    • @eliteearthworksllc
      @eliteearthworksllc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is right. I really don’t need a dozer I do plan to get me a new loader and keep my old one as a back up. And one of these a 140 size excavator just speed things up and take on little bigger jobs. I will get more use out of a bigger excavator than a dozer. Appreciate the comment

      How much more work did you get done in the same amount of time as your machine would do. How big a bucket do you think it could handle 8 foot? If you move more square feet an hour the increased fuel is offset on contract work

    • @eliteearthworksllc
      @eliteearthworksllc  3 ปีที่แล้ว
