Norval Morrisseau Art Fraud: How to increase the value of your fake Morrisseau with Photoshop

The individual that I spoke with here used Photoshop on a Getty copyright black & white photo of Norval Morrisseau working on a painting in the 1960s. This guy admits to doctoring the photo to make it appear that Morrisseau was working on his painting. Is this a crime? What is the potential fallout of posting a fraudulent photo such as this? Would it increase the resale value of the painting if people believed the photo to be authentic? Are we going to have hundreds of Morrisseau speculators attempting novel ways to move their shoddy art?
Via email I received the appraisal of this painting and the name of the original seller and his Facebook address. I went to the Facebook account. The banner / header is a photo of a hog (a motorcycle). The profile face is a mask? Are people possessed by this Morrisseau-esque energy?
