Man, what a song huh?!! I played this song at my wife's funeral 4 years ago. We were married 37 years so yeah, I have an emotional connection with this song. ✝️😥👍
We played it at my Dad’s funeral too, it was one of his all timers
so you must be 70 or older?
Ahahaha, not 70. 😁😂
I met her in 1983, moved 2 weeks later.
Married in 1984 while stationed in Germany in which she was a native citizen.
So what that a honest guess or you were you trying to to be a Dick? 🤔😎
Sorry for your loss ! Beautiful song to play at your wife's funeral!
@@papalaz4444244I'm not 70 , ahahaha. Or were You trying to be a"Richard"?!!! 🤔
We lost our daughter back in September, one week after her 49th birthday. She loved PF, went to many of their concerts, and was also a huge Grateful Dead fan. Her entire life was dominated by drug issues, and ever increasing health problems. She spent her last six years back home with my wife and me, after her fiancé died of an overdose from cocaine and fentanyl. Thankfully, she was clean and sober the entire time she lived with us. I'm dedicating ' Wish You Were here ' to Mary Ann, our youngest of only two daughters. We miss you very much honey, and hope that by some great design we will meet again in some other realm or dimension. Love, Dad and Mom
I am so so sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine having to bury a child. I’m so glad she got to spend her last years with mom and dad and sober. Sending love and thoughts from my family in Canada to you are yours. Hang in there. Again I’m so Terri sorry , you got me weeping … and it’s ok. Love you guys.
This is besutiful❤ you daughter knows you love her.
Fuck man I'm so sorry, I'll cheers to her memory and appreciate my loved one's a little more, I'm really sorry hey.
Little brother, you are experiencing musics power to move us in a way nothing else does.
Don't ever be afraid of tears, little brother.
I'm 64 and still weep when I listen to a small number of particular songs, not just because it's a great song but because it takes me back to another place and time. Another life I left behind.
I will speak for the 40's crowd and say YES to all of this! ❤
Couldnt agree more!!! Feel the music 😊
Spot on ❤
70s bunch - still cry when listening to these songs. Rings so true at my age - 72.
Same MW,same...😘
I'm a metal head, but you can't go wrong with Pink Floyd!!!!😊
My sentiments exactly
Ditto
I’ve struggled with things my whole life: death, anxiety, depression, addiction, low self-esteem, you name it. I’ve had things to cope, but nothing quite calms me down like Pink Floyd. I often feel like a lost soul swimming in a fish bowl, and it’s comforting to know I’m not alone. (Being a part of this community makes me feel that I can share side of me.) Although I’m grown now and have made it through a lot of the difficulties of my younger days, when I’m feeling down, you can bet on a Pink Floyd album being played on my stereo, or in my headphones as I lay there trying to be Comfortably Numb.
bless you
You aren't alone Jeff. I go through the samethings you do daily. It's horrible but we do it. Kindred spirits bro.
Same, guys! I sometimes wonder how I have gotten through the past 56 years. Music is everything to me. The only time I don’t have music on is when I’m sleeping. My favorite Floyd for rough days is Momentary Lapse of Reason. Peace to you both 🤘🏻
Can I be a member of this club? You described me perfectly
Gen X survives!!! 😃
The UK has given the world some of the most iconic musicians and lyrics ever. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!
I’m 54 years old and I think it’s wonderful that you have been listening to and enjoying music from my generation. I hope you continue to listen and ask questions. 🤟🏻
I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of the people that have been here for the Metallica, Pantera, Megadeth, Tool, etc. (and I'm one) are also big fans of Floyd (I'm definitely one!) Their music is timeless and universal!
MORE PINK FLOYD!!!!!!!!!!!
For the record, Syd Barrett was alive when they wrote this song in 1975. He was alive when they performed this in 1994, Pulse. Syd Barrett died in 2006. The "Wish You Were Here" album was about the loss of Syd Barrett's mind and spirit, his mental breakdown that made him unrecognizable to even his closest lifelong friends. It was not about his physical loss.
More Pink Floyd please!! "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" live Pulse rendition. I believe you've already done the studio version. 👍
Shortly after my husband died and I was going to the cemetery this song came on the radio it touched me to my soul I’ll never forget that ❤️
David Gilmore is such an amazing artist, he can literally make his guitar sing, paint a scene and set a mood all at the same time.
Sorry for my OCD but it’s Gilmour, 👍
@@karenglenn6707 you're absolutely right. I was driving and used talk to text.
@@karenglenn6707 You just nicked my 5 quid from Dave.
Happy Gilmour
I just started to cry. I miss so many people that are gone, i miss my youth
As a disabled person I learnt about loss from a younger age than most people in my life.
This song always, always hits hard. But it is simply one of the most moving, perfect pieces of music I’ve ever heard
Sorry for your struggles...God bless you,you are loved, let the beauty of music soothe your soul...🎙🎶💞
True rock fans never waiver from the greats. Regardless of what you consider your favorite genre. Pink Floyd should be one of those always.
As long as you remember and feel them, they're still with you. This song reminds me how much we mean to each other.
This is my wife and I song. Dedicated when i drove over the road for 15 years..
It also is my tribute to both my late brothers. A very emotional song which will fit just about anywhere...
Sometimes i still shed a tear or two and even cry a little when i hear this... it's that deep
Enjoy the greatness young man... and Thank you
Are we not lucky to be alive in this time period. Pink Floyd are without doubt the greatest band of all time, I’m knocking on the door of 73 and been a fan for ever and was lucky enough to see them twice in the early 90’s . More PF please 🤘🏻🤘🏻
The minute David starts to play I’m done for 😢
Such immense talent. And in his day, one of the most beautiful men ❤
My all time favorite Pink Floyd song. Makes me think of my dad whos been gone for 25 years now.
Coming up on 14 years for me, but same
The Pulse concert was amazing.
My grandmother died in '87 when I was finishing my high school freshman year. This is the album I played at 1am when I got the call from my mom. Saw this live at Pulse in El Paso, TX. Special album and song. Listen to it every time life takes another one away. Like most of Floyd, it seems to mean more to me the more mileage I get behind me. Going on 53 and this song often makes me full on cry.
I’m 54 and I have loved this song since I was 16
Listen it makes my heart happy to see someone your age discovering gen x music. We truly had some of the best rock ever.
Wish You Were Here came out in 1975.
So glad this is happening!!! Thank you to whomever requested it!!
This and comfortably numb they just move the earth beneath your feet a tick slower . Great song
This song is anout Syd. Floyd fans are loyal and open minded. I'm sure that most still with you.
😎
Yeah, the situation with Syd was especially heartbreaking, because he was still alive, but not really there anymore.
@CatherinePearl100 True.
I reread my comment, and I sound like an idiot.
All about fat fingers on a small phone keyboard. 🤣
My dad passed about two years ago and I cry every time I hear this song. It hits harder as the years go by and peple you loved are no longer with you.
So sorry for your loss!
Even after 16 years I think of things I'd like to be able to show my mom. Restaurants I like, TV shows, music I listen to, or discussing politics and current events. Almost every day.
Music and talent like this is timeless, and can’t go out of fashion.
Put on the headphones- grab a beer or doobie and listen to Shine on You Crazy Diamond- studio version. I’m 67 and still do this often with various Pink Floyd tunes. Especially the entire Animals album.
Definitely grabbing a Heineken and listening to that next.
Alot of us metal heads love abit of floyd, this is my favorite by them.
Gilmour harmonising with his acoustic guitar is pure musical gold.
Even though original singer and guitarist, Syd Barrett was *technically* only on their first album, he cast a *HUGE* shadow over Pink Floyd. They wrote entire albums about him!
Pink Floyd are their own genre.
I genuinely believe this.
This is probably the biggest musical compliment you can pay anyone.
I love the line “we’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl year after year” so poetic.
So do I !
The Wish You Were Here album was my introduction to rock music in 1977. Changed my life.
@@James-lk2sgIt was released in ‘75, that doesn’t mean this person heard it then.
There are plenty of albums that pre-date my lifetime, or that I simply wasn’t aware of on their release. When I heard them they still changed my life. Just because we didn’t hear something on release doesn’t mean it cannot be impactful
@@mariannetuite7411 u right I misinterpreted my bad
@@James-lk2sgNo worries. I just know most of the records that do that to me are a good decade or two older than me.
Have a great day
More Pink Floyd? Yes, please!
No music dies ever ever. Elvis, Bowie, Prince. All with us forever
I am still hanging around, Pink Floyd is in my top 2 favorite bands. But I'm a connoisseur of all types of music. I enjoy your videos and the fact that you are open to a lot of styles (not immediately snubbing your nose). Keep listening. ❤
Nice reaction to a deep song. Had this played at my Dads funeral. He played Pink Floyd to me since i was zero. Dark side of the moon is maybe/probably the best album ever. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
ALWAYS MORE FLOYD!!!!!!!! Yes 1994
Pink Floyd's music is timeless. All generations can relate on a personal level. Their music will live on forever.
One of the best live shows I have ever seen. Saw this performed in Minneapolis in 1994, with my good buddy Steve. Unreal.
Steve is gone now, died several years ago from a rare physical condition. Watching this, with you, and reading other comments really made him come back into my mind. Thanks.
I also have an emotional connection to this song. It was our song, my man lived in utah and until he retired and moved here this was our song. Its still the ringtone on my phone when he calls me. Its us.
Most guitartists plug into an amp, David plugs into his soul! High Hopes, Hey you, Brain Damage/Eclipse are just a few you should check out. Great reaction!
I LOVE Pink Floyd. I wish music still had this feel to it. ❤ so so so damn good.
As the years go by this song gets harder to listen to from all past memories. Enjoy your youth Youngling.
Great reaction..😎🔥👍🏼
Wow 50k. I have been here since the beginning. I think you might have had 2-3k. Awesome bro! Super stoked for you
This song is dedicated to my father. He was my best friend. He died 3 years ago. Peope say time heals all wounds but that is one wound that will never heal.
How i wish he was here.
Much love and pure vida! Keep it up Molly.
Yes 1994 and I'm happy to say I went to this tour. Best concert I've been to and I have been to alot. 😊
Yes , Please more of Pink Floyd , With that R.I.P. Sid Barrett and Richard Wright !
This song was me and my old boyfriend's from back in the 80s. We went and saw Pink Floyd together....best concert ever! I had the lyrics framed and gave it to him before I left the country over 40 years ago. I'm sure he still remembers even if he doesn't have that memento anymore.
It was one of the favorite bands of my partner who unfortunately passed away in 2022 at just 50 years old, a wonderful being with a big heart, a bassist musician and with great musical knowledge 😢
Bro... the world need more Pink Floyd...
The mark of a good guitar soloist: being able to sing what you're playing.
A lot of players just learn their scales and licks and just let their fingers go without really thinking about it.
Dave singing along to his own solo shows that he's thinking about what notes he's playing and the story he's telling with the music.
Pink Floyd, "Another Brick in the Wall part 2" was the song of my youth
You should just watch this whole concert in one sitting. It's amazing. You'll be moved to tears more than once.
Many people mistakenly think this is about Syd Barrett, but in an interview Roger Waters said quite emphatically that the only song on the WYWH album that was about Syd was "Shine on you crazy diamond". He went on to say that when he wrote the lyrics to "Wish You Were Here" he had in mind someone close who had refused to move on in life and had been left behind. He also said that at other times it meant something else, and that some days he didn't really know what it meant himself. He deliberately made the lyrics enigmatic so that the listener could make them mean whatever they wanted them to mean, and they have become an anthem for anyone who has lost someone close to them. David Gilmour has said that he often thinks of Syd when he's performing it, even though it wasn't written about him.
The opening guitar chords were composed by David Gilmour who had in mind someone listening to a poor quality radio all alone in their bedroom late at night, and upon hearing the guitar joining in himself with the crisper sound of the second guitar. Overall, a stunningly beautiful composition, both instrumentally and lyrically, and a work of complete genius. I associate it with someone very close and special that I lost long ago and it never fails to bring a tear to my eye.
Thank you, Roger. I genuinely learned something from your post.
Never bored of Pink Floyd. 👍🏻👍🏻
One of my all time favorite songs!!! Thanks for reacting to this!! Peace!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
This song makes me cry every time I hear it. 😢❤
You can’t go wrong with Pink Floyd! They write some beautiful music!
back in the 70s & still pluck @ my heartstrings all hail Pink Floyd
It's a sentiment that stands the test of time. It was already a couple decades old by this concert 30 years ago! The way it affected you is the way it affects everyone who actually listens to it. Glad to see you've come back around to a bit more diversity 😊
Yay, PF is never wrong! "High Hopes" from the same Pulse concert is absolutely amazing! ❤️❤️
They r my #1 fav of all time, so I'm always in for some Floyd. Pulse is one of the best concerts ever. Brilliant. Thanx so much, Peace
This is one of my all-time favorite songs. A lot of metal heads are Pink Floyd fans. Keep digging both veins.
I LOVE PINK FLOYD!! I SAW THE INCREDIBLE MOVIE "THE WALL" 3 TIMES IN THE THEATER AND BOUGHT THE ALBUM A FEW TIMES BECAUSE MY FRIENDS DIDN'T GIVE THE ALBUM BACK TO ME. I HAD ALL THE PINK FLOYD " DARK SIDE THE MOON" ONE OF MOON AND THE WALL WERE MY FAVORITE!! BEAUTIFUL REACTION MOLLYBOY AND THANK YOU WHOMEVER REQUESTED THIS GEM!! 😊 💓 🤘 ✌️ IT DEFINITELY PUTS YOU IN A MOOD.
Pink Floyd are my favorite Band of all time ! Animals - Pigs (Three Different Ones)
Ohhhh man!! This is a masterpiece. Never fails to make me cry.
Lots and LOTS of people have also covered this song. Velvet Revolver is one version I’d definitely recommend looking out for
Goodbye Blue Sky is my favorite of all time
There’s a beautiful version of this from David Gilmore in Pompeii, honestly it’s stunning. My late husband turned me on to that version & I just adore it.
The Great Gig in the Sky performance from this concert is one of my favorite live Floyd songs ever, defintely check it out.
The album starts and finishes with Shine on you crazy diamond which is about Sid, He turned up during the recording of this but his head was completely fried and he never really functioned from 68 onwards (too much acid), Of this Roger Waters who wrote the lyrics said it's about whatever the listener wants it to be about, There is a really good series called classic albums and its basically the band talking about the recording of classic albums and both Wish you were here and DSOTM are on it. hearing thosei nvolved in the making, the band, the engineers give you a really insight. I saw them twice back in the 88 on the delicate sound of thunder tour and in 2 weeks I'm going to see Nick Masons Saucerful of Secrets (The drummer) This band changed my life. I had just turned 11 in November 79 when another brick was released and saved all my pocket money to buy the album and within a couple of weeks had 4 paper rounds so I could afford to buy more music and I haven't changed.
Music can play havoc with our emotions, you’ve picked several poignant songs tonight.
Sending you a virtual hug, from an old person! 😍
Pink Floyd was arguably the best live performers ever. Once you understand the history of these blokes the meaning of their songs are that much deeper.
So glad you found this, and I liked your reaction, it was really showing in your face, this song means so much to a lot of us, thank you for reviewing it xx
Yes yes YES more Pink Floyd. My top 2 favorite songs of all time are both Floyd. “Shine on You Crazy Diamond (all 9 parts) and “Echoes live at Pompei (part 1 & 2). They are both very long (26 minutes), but don’t feel like it.
Great reaction. Keep up the good work buddy!!!
He has THE sultriest, sexiest voice IMO.
“ did you exchange a walk on part in a war, for a lead role in a cage?”
BARZ!!!!!
Fifty years of great music . My first Pink Floyd album still listening to the Dark side of the Moon . A musical journey that I relive every time I listen to their albums .
My mom always loathed the "ambient noise" of Floyd
But my dad loved them
He used to play them for me during split custody when I was young. He passed last year, and this song makes me think of him every time.
Song gets heavy when you can relate to it
Glad to see you back with Pink Floyd in the 94 Pulse concert. The greatest show of all time !
This one will always have a place in my heart. My father was a tortured soul and died while I was dating my now husband. During the father/daughter dance me and my brother spent more time belting this song out than dancing.
I saw Pink Floyd on this tour pulse. It was amazing. The best concert I have ever been to.
Ok, I don’t think anyone minds if you throw some Pink Floyd in there, doesn’t even matter what, but the Pulse concert is brilliant.
I was tired today. Run down and exhausted. I couldn't decide what I wanted to listen to. Fixed it.
This song meant so much more when my husband passed away in 2006. I always get emotional ❤❤❤ so glad you get it and love it 😊 may you never have the tables turn on your life. Peace
I saw Pink Floyd in the last 80’s. They are amazing in concert!! ❤
I don’t know if you have realized this yet but most of the greatest bands to have ever graced us are from your side of the pond!
OH MY GOD. David sounds exactly the same as he did 40 years ago. ❤
Pink Floyd fan still here. Stuck around as Ive enjoyed some of your other reactions to other songs 😊 glad you've come back to Floyd
Pink Floyd is Top Tier music , don't stop going down the rabbit hole !!! Great reaction mollyboy !!! ✌️🔥🎸🇺🇸💯...
6900 views in 8 hours, 1400 thumbs up. A few Pink Floyd fans still suscribed, I think.
We all love Pink Floyd but we understand the sheer enormous volume of great bands for you to react to from the classic rock era. You can probably do this until you're as old as I am and not run out of material. It's why the era from the late 50's til about the mid 90's is the greatest time for music in human history (special shout out to the 70's, the absolutely greatest decade of all).
If i had to pick only one decade for music, it would be the 70s. 80s would be my second pick. Third would probably be 90s. Then it might be a toss up between 00s and 60s. I was born in 1970 and I don't think my opinion is so much about my age but just the quality of music pumped out in the 70s, much of which I didn't discover until during the 80s and some of which (like deeper cuts by Judas Priest and Molly Hatchet) I'm still discovering in the last 5 or so years.
@paulsiebeneicher4536 Agree but I think I'd rate the 70's, 80's, then 60's. To me 90's was good but quality fell off after the first half. Plus I'm older than you and may have had more exposure to 60's.
@roadkill7314 , that was a ranking I also considered. We do agree on 70s first then 80s. I did hear a lot of 60s stuff especially in my college years however I won't assume i heard as much 60s as you did. It's a tough call in a way because I can agree that the 60s were critical in laying the foundation for what came after, but a lot of what came after might resonate more with me. A couple related notes, I respect The Beatles but never got heavily into them, plus I respect Jimi Hendrix but I'm more about great songs than great performers, and I'll take a lot of post-Hendrix songs over Hendrix songs, despite his musical talent. So like I agree that artists like Beatles and Hendrix paved the way for stuff that followed, however, I prefer the stuff that followed.
@paulsiebeneicher4536 It's all good; a minor taste difference. Now if you hadn't had 70's first we might have come to blows!
@@roadkill7314 ha ha fair enough. Have a great weekend.
Love Pink Floyd....my favorite song is Time.
SWIMING IN THE WORLD ,LIKE FISH WE ARE ALL THE FISHERMAN IAM.❤❤❤
Probably the most underrated Floyd tune of all time. Got me hooked on them. Thanks for reacting and sharing your thoughts 🙏
Comfortably Numb from this Same Pulse show !! Let’s Go!!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☑️
Yeah! I am a old man and this song makes me remember ones I have lost 20,30,40 years ago.
