The Rush rabbit hole. HERE WE GO!!!
It's deeeeeeep
Yesssss! Go down it Molly!!!
Everyone who never heard RUSH, Take that dive , I dove in back in 1984 (high school)
Not a fan ( I'm Canadian sorry Canada) I do luv Max Webster, Teenage Head, Goddo, Lee Aaron ( she's the Metal Queen) The Tragically Hip just some Canadian bands 😊
@@tracyrichards6545 well ever heard of a band from Canada called BTO? Hey You
You don't have to worry about this band blocking you. This is one of the most fan friendly bands you'll ever come across. They produced pretty much an album every year and they toured every album. They really really wanted to make sure that whatever they produced on their albums they could reproduce live for their fans. It was just an amazing group of talented folks who cared so much about the quality of their craft. I can't wait for you to take this journey. There's so much for you to enjoy
Im here for all Rush
AMEN!!
💯
Ditto...keep reacting to RUSH and I will drop by for a few views!
Me too!!! Every single one 😘😝💐
Another Canadian trio..... Triumph "Fight the Good Fight" live
Triumph live at the US Festival.
@@beowulf1005 Yes that's the one that's an amazing performance
Never understood why they didn't blow up. Absolutely love Triumph.
@@troygill4968agreed. Triumph was criminally underrated.
@@JaneSmith-lu8ol 100% true.
More Rush means alot more views. You need to react to LA Villa Strangiato
ya...live version❤
@@lizmelo5374the “official video” which is live in 1978.
More Rush, more music appreciation, more views. It’s an all-around win.
@@motodorkYeah that performance is superb. That was a live take.
That was gonna be my next recommendation too!
I listened to Virgin Classic Radio for a month and noticed they never played any Rush. I requested "Working Man" daily for a week, and they finally played it. A week or two later, different Rush songs were getting requested. It was nice to see other Rush fans pushing for more of their music. 💯🤘🎶
Excited for this one. Do limelight next please.
Limelight is a solid one. I played that for a teenager years back and it was the first Rush song he ever heard. He as blown away. Later on that day, I asked him what his favorite band is and he said, "I think it might be Rush!" lol Now that is some first impression! :-)
Keeping him at Le Studio a bit longer, eh? Hey, you’ll get no arguments against it from me.
Anything and everything from Moving Pictures!
Limelight is a favorite of mine to play too. So fun. Also a big fan of Freewill. When the breakdown starts and bass opens up and just rings going a bit synthy, so good
Limelight 💯.....then. absolutely need to check out Red Barchetta!
Known as the greatest "Power Trio" in rock history....
no the greatest band in history - not just the greatest trio!
Triumph are an easy second.
@@GummyBearWA ZZ Top?
Cream did it first. No disrespect to Rush
@@jima6545 Quoting Geddy, “[Cream] was far and away my favourite band when I got old enough to appreciate rock music, and I was getting more and more into rock. Cream was such an influence on early Rush and me as a bass player... I stayed a fan of [Jack Bruce] through the years and through his solo work. I loved his solo work."
I just found your channel. It warms the heart of this 67 yr old American to watch you discover classic music from my youth !
You have renewed my faith in young people Molloy boy! Great song great reaction!
'The spirit of radio' in 1980 marked a musical change for Rush after their 70's format of making epic and complex prog rock music... After the 1978 album 'Hemispheres'... Rush were burned out making musically challenging records and wanted to have fun again... In 1979, there was a new British music scene in post-punk rock UK and bands like The Police... Joy Division... The Human League... Simple Minds... were breaking big w/ a new sound called 'new wave'... and Rush's members became fans of that sound that incorporated synthesizers and beats.
As a result, Rush produced the album 'Permanent waves' and it gave a huge nod to the British new wave bands... it became a platinum record and took Rush into the 80's. They still experimented w/ epic songs and complex structures but it was in a simpler and catchier approach.
Oh yes thank you for the info you are awesome 🤘🤘👌🌹
If you want heavier, thrashy Rush you need to do 2112. When you do AC/DC I recommend the BON SCOTT era
yes, 2112 or Anthem
BON!!!
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap is pretty gritty and I love it!
Always the Bon Scott era.
Working Man both the studio and Live Cleveland.
Ah man, that tribute outro graphic gets me every f’ing time. Rush fans are the best, reflecting the depth of the band.
By no means do I want to Rush your enlightenment into this music, but, Yes, Yes is the inevitable progression in progressive rock. Take your time. I'm loving watching you, or anyone for that matter, discover the brilliance of this type of music. If there's anything in the last 100 years musically better, I'm open to hear it. Keep it up, brother. Love it.
ELP Ode to the Common Man live in Olympic Stadium. Molly's becoming a drum man, sooo...
But YES to Yes! . (First time I heard Yes, I was a freshman at all-girls Catholic high school- and it was featured at Mass! Truly a religious experience! 🙌)
There’s a technical death metal band called allegaeon that covers roundabout. It’s definitely worth a listen
More RUSH songs to check out...Xanadu live 1981 Exit Stage Left tour...LA Villa Stangiato... Natural Science...Red Barchetta....Vital Signs...Subdivision...and if ya want to get a tear in your eye listen to Losing It.
Roundabout all day!
Rush - 2112 is the ultimate Rush experience.
Rush killed it on this track. 🎵🎶🌻☮️
If you reacted to a Rush song every 2 days... it would take you an entire year bro !!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Neil Peart (RIP Professor) is your favorite drummer’s favorite drummer (or at least the top 2). He is also the main lyricist. Listen to his drum solo from Frankfurt. 👍🏼👍🏼
Well said and all true!
It's unfortunate so few Rush fans are aware Neil Peart wrote the lyrics of the vast majority of their songs.
If Neil had never touched a drum Stick,
He would have gone down in history as one of the most important "sonic story tellers" in music history.
Neil Peart was not only the Professor, he was The President Of The University!
@@woodbliss568 Profound lyrics from the master drummer...UNREAL
Xanadu is a great pick as well. Especially live 1981
Yeah, I just suggested that live version, too 😊
For my money one of if not the best live performances of all time.
If you ever do rush vids, type in stickhits, vids are retouched and 70% clearer and better sound
If people don’t like Rush, they’re lost, anybody who is in their right mind or knows anything about music has respect for Rush and knows that they’re masters of their crafts
This is still my favorite Rush song.
Mine too.❤
Closer to the Heart
Anthem
Limelight
Fly by Night
Freewill
Working man. This is a killer riff ( John Rutsey on drums)
For more experimental Rush
2112
Xanadu
Necromancer
By Tor and The Snow Dog. I'm sure people will let you know all the great Rush songs.
Well done!
"Be kind, rewind" -MollyBoyTV (2023)
Oh MOLY MOLLY MOLLY…you done it now, SO many great songs! I could not WAIT till you got to Rush, it was only a matter of time and I was really anticipating how you would react. There’s a bunch of live vids of you wanna see em and it’s TOTALLY worth it! Check out Xanadu ( pronounced Zan-uh-do) live! NOT the “official” live vid! The actual live vid Xanadu-Exit Stage Left 1981!!! You will be AMAZED! Just so ya know… Geddy Lee does all the bass/keyboard/singing. When he’s playing bass he keyboards with his feet/pedals and when he’s keyboard he plays bass with his feet/pedals! Fkn crazy talent
2112 is a meal of a song and should be savored from beginning to end! However, if you’re looking for something more of a snack, afternoon tea if you will, Red Barchetta continues the car theme and is foundational, classic, rocking Rush. Old guy enjoying reliving the joy of discovering this music myself, many moons ago…✌️
2112 is one of the greatest albums ever recorded IMO
I subscribed after the Rush video led me to your other videos. You're fun to watch, best of luck with your channel.
RUSH is one of those bands that never disappoints! The entire 2112 album is amazing! Another band with a unique sound that has a killer first album is Boston! No need to apologize for listening to different artists or genres.God created us all with creativity, and music is a prime example. We may not all like the same thing, but we can appreciate gift of all kinds of music.I grew up in the 70's and love that time period of music.I live 70's rock and metal. My dad taught me to live old style crooners like Bobby Darin and Tony Bennet.I adore really old ragtime jazz, especially Louis Armstrong! I love Motown, like the Temptations and Sam Cooke,Etta James, and so many early greats.I love Chris Stapleton and bluesy Country.I love John Denver and Karen Carpenter to soothe my soul...Who doesn't love some psychedelic 60's vibe, and the grit of Janis Joplin and Joe Cocker? The point is,it's a great big world full of creative music out there, and what hits you a certain way,may not hit somebody else exactly the same. It's all good. The beauty is in the discovery!🎛🎸🥁🎻🎺🎹🎙🎶😉😎
ISN'T THAT MIND BLOWING ONLY 3 GUYS BRILLIANT MUSICIANS!! RUSH IS AWESOME!! INCREDIBLE REACTION MOLLYBOY 💙!! 😊🩷🤘✌️
As a drummer, I would be a sinner for not loving Rush. We are definitely here for it ❤
I highly request you react to them live. It will show how insanely great they are at their craft. Working Man live in Cleveland will amaze you.
Harder RUSH?!!!🤔🤔
Then "2112" should be your next experience and I Do mean Experience.😉😎👏 But watch the animated version so you can follow along a lot easier. Trust me get your Popcorn ready 🎸🎵🍻🎸💯🔥
Natural Science and LA Villa Strangiato and YYZ with the Neil Peart drum solo live
Check out Red Barchetta as well!!
One of my favorites. 🤩
This song changed my life as a 14 year old back in 1980. I'd never heard anything like it & introduced me to the band that have been the soundtrack of my life ever since. Great reaction....you have some amazing songs to discover.
I have heard so many people say they are the soundtrack of their life. It's true though for me as well, and I've never heard anyone say that about any other band.
I'm glad you're back in that infinite rabbit whole that is Rush. This is no doubt an amazing song and sure has a lot of people reacting to it. However, you're reacting to one of their very few radio hits. Rush, to a music lover is way more than their hits. But still, their hits are still great pieces of music. If you're going to stick to the hits, I would recommend Subdivisions and Limelight (2 of my all time favourite songs to play on the drums), Step 2: the Fear Trilogy. The order is in reverse so that the first song recorded was part 3 Witch Hunt (1981 Moving Pictures) the second song recorded was The Weapon (1982 Signals) and finally The Enemy within (1984 Grace under Pressure). Listen to them in that order. Pay extra attention to the amazing lyrics in all 3 songs. They all talk about fear but in three different aspects: Fear of the unknown (Witch Hunt), fear of power in a broad sense (The Weapon) and lastly the fears within ourselves (The Enemy Within). All 3 songs are widely different in style and sound and 3 rush staples for fans. Check them out... and then we can get serious bro !!!!
Very well said.
If you really want to hear Geddy sing "heavy" you need to hear "2112", some of his best screaming ever along with a lot of dynamics.
Imagine being a 15-year-old kid and you've never been to a rock concert before. You've never heard of this band and an older kid in the neighborhood asks if you want to go to a concert tonight with a bunch of other guys from the neighborhood... You beg your mother to go. She says yes. You sit down and you hear this concert tour permanent waves and you hear them kick off the show with this song. I was blown away an instant fan. This is three people producing this sound. They are so tight and each one is such a talented musician rocked my world. I've been lucky enough to see them live for this album and the next two.
I am so looking forward to you taking this journey. I'm going to subscribe. I hope you do more. I can't wait to see if you have taken the Jethro Tull journey that will blow you away as well.
Huge rush fan, good old Canadian boys, I'm from Geddy's (singer) hometown of Toronto and currently live in Neil's (drummer) hometown of st catharines Ontario 🇨🇦...RIP NEIL PEART
CFNY was my station growing up - it felt like this was FOR us, but it's so good to see other people loving this
We know how you love your instrumentals, well 'La Villa Strangiato' is a beast from these guys. Studio version first then live.
I was gonna say YYZ live...but this is a better call.
Agreed!
Greetings from Portugal MollyBoy. I'm a 47 metalhead here, but hey, sometimes we have to cool down a little. Refresh a little with Rush any time you want. Try Limelight, YYZ, La Villa Strangiato, Red Barchetta, 2112 (instrumental)... there are so many amazing songs from Rush. Keep rockin. Peace
Rush are musical geniuses. So many great somgs that you will love 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Rush fans- let’s hit like and subscribe for this young lad. He is one of us, and we watched it happen.
lol true
Watching you discover the music I’ve loved for decades makes my soul shine. Keep it up mate.
Pleeeaaase do more Rush.
It's amazing how these 3 men performed their songs live.
Watch some of their liveperfomances. "YYZ" from the Rush in Rio performance is so amazing. This crowd...🥲
Cheers Mate
This tune always makes me feel good!
Molly gonna love this one definitely in my top ten rush songs
Canada's gift to The World...RUSH! I cannot describe to you what a feeling it is to see them live in concert 3X
Rush songs you need to hear... YYZ (live), Nobody's Hero, 2112 (pack a lunch, it's a bit of an epic), La Villa Strangiato, Working Man, Subdivisions, Red Barchetta, Closer to the Heart, Limelight, New World Man, Red Sector A.
Just off the top of my head...
The Necromancer - my favorite old Rush tune. Great reaction.
Agreed. Love that song from their album Caress Of Steel. ❤
"The Spirit of Radio" is the call sign for CFNY {now called The Edge}102.1 FM in Toronto. A radio station that plays all types of popular music, which is why the song changes up from pop to reggae to harder rock, like changing stations on a dial. It also shows dj's and reporters {Jim Ladd, Bob Coburn, Donna Halper, David Marsden} in the US and Canada who had a big hand in playing Rush. This song was a Thank You from Rush for keeping not just Their music alive and popular, but so many others.
I knew a guy who picked his dorm room location in Buffalo to make sure he could pick up CFNY back in the 80’s.
62 years of age, 11 Rush concerts, and still can't believe how talented and timeless this band was (very sad to say was). You will enjoy any song you react to. Here are some of my recommendations. YYZ whatever version (studio, 1988, Rio), Leave that thing alone, La Villa Strangiato, Where's my thing, Xanadu (81 live), A Farewell to Kings, Working Man, The Necromancer, The Trees, Cyngus X-1, Between the Wheels, Limelight, The Available Light, and just too many more. Enjoy and welcome to the never ending bottle of hot sauce!
Let's go, Mollyboy!!!
Triumph is another good 3 man rock band from Canada.
Love Triumph ❤️
Rush!!
One likes to believe in the freedom of music, but glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity NO ONE writes like Neil!!!
F yeah!!!
Should we even tell him about 2112?
It might wreck him
Think he's ready? Or work him up2 it lol❤🇨🇦
@kimbarry4674 might as well bite the bullet...the only thing to fear is never hearing anything as good ever again!
45-years since the first time I heard “The Spirit Of Radio” and it still gives me goosebumps!
RUSH - "DISTANT EARLY WARNING" & "RED SECTOR A"
#WelcometoCanada !!!! Another Canadian heavy hitter is The Tragically Hip... New Orleans is sinking, is the song that pulled me in when I was 17
"I'm building you a pyramid
with limestone blocks so large..."
Xanadu, Jacob's Ladder, La Villa Strangiato - Live from Exit Stage left (1981). Witch Hunt, Subdivisions, Distant Early Warning, 2112. YYZ (from live in rio or Exit stage left) So many great songs, incredible lyrics and arrangements....RIP Neil Peart, God I miss this band. Love your Channel man!
Great suggestions! 😀👍
@@mightyV444 oh ya, add Natural Science, and The Red Barchetta to that list.
Another great 3 man Canadian band from the 70s and early 80s, whose sound is bigger than you'd expect, is Triumph. Check out their songs "Lay It On the Line" "Fight the Good Fight" and "Magic Power"
Arg!!! It makes me cry every single time.
The story of radio is going to be lost. For those of us that grew up poor in Texas the radio was EVERYTHING.
In particular Mexican radio border blaster stations.
Lots of songs reference it.
Mexican radio (obviously)”
wall of voodoo”
“Heard it on the x”
ZZ Top. Lots of others.
Amazing song. And what a great tribute to Neil❤
Back before the internet... Back before Spotify... Back before streaming music... There was radio.
Yet another band that will put you on a life changing journey. Three master musicians who made music like you've never heard and never will hear again.
Rush had a rule: as difficult as their music was to create, they would not perform a song live that they couldn't recreate themselves, just the three of them. No backing tracks, no extra musicians backstage, none of that. So, Alex will play double-necked guitars (6-string and 12-string electric guitars) or will have an acoustic guitar on a stand that he can play before switching immediately to the electric he has strapped on, AND will play Moog Taurus bass pedals with his feet. Geddy also sometimes plays a double-neck (6-string guitar and bass guitar), plus keyboards, plus Taurus pedals, AND he sings. And Neil plays one of the largest drum kits ever seen, and will use every single piece on the kit in some songs. There are a couple of different live performances of their song Xanadu - one from the late 70s and one from 1980 - where you get a real appreciation for them playing a very elaborate song live, playing ALL of those different instruments themselves, and it sounds like a 12-piece band.
Rush was a HUGE influence on a ton of other bands - and not just progressive rock bands but all kinds, from Kiss to the Foo Fighters to Tool to Primus to Nine Inch Nails to the Smashing Pumpkins and SOOOOO many more. The reason was simple: Rush held themselves to an astoundingly high level of musicianship, writing songs that they knew ahead of time would be very difficult to play live, so that they would never get bored no matter how many times they played them. And in that way, they won massive respect from musicians across the board. All the while, they never forgot that the music still had to be great, and they delivered there too. I was lucky enough to see them live 9 times, and those are very treasured memories.
Dude, don't apologize! You're doing great, just keep doing songs as you want to. Myself, I'm looking for Zep, Rush, Bowie, Yes, Heart, Tull, etc. and I'll click on any songs by them you do, it's great to see someone enjoy them like I do. Just roll with it.
I think you should really return to doing some 80s pop too. Lots of great music to check out even if some early videos didnt get that many views. Genesis/Phil Collins, the glam metal scene, countless other options
2112 next , from the live ablum All the worlds a stage
YYZ live in Rio is outstanding. Give it a listen. 👍🏻
Mollyboy you need to watch Xanadu live!
Check Xanadu Exit Stage Left 1981, Natural Science live 1995, Cygnus X-1, Book 2, Witch Hunt, Subdivisions, .....
12000 views in 13 hours........Rush Army at its best. We worship the greatest Power Trio in the history of music. Their music transcends time, that is, musically and lyrically....
It is a shame that he NEVER understood what the song was talking about.
For drums................Find Neil Peart live from Frankfurt. Best drum solo ever.
Rock God's. Top 5 drummer of all time
Pearl Jam has a reputation of having one of the most loyal fanbases around, but Rush's fanbase is on a whole other level above that. They barely ever got played on the radio back in the day yet every concert was packed and every show was an absolute blast because everyone there was so into it. I have seen them 5 times and that count is on the low end for the typical Rush fan. Truly one of the most amazing bands to ever exist. Every show is like 75% musicians in the audience. Talk to ANYBODY who is big in rock and metal today and ask them who their influences are and Rush is mentioned just about every time.
Check out the Live from Rio version of YYZ, which is an instrumental track off the same album as Tom Sawyer. Your life will never be the same after you see that performance.
My favorite band ever. The ending of this specific video with the empty drum set just breaks me. I cry everytime. RIP Professor and thanks to Rush for being the soundtrack of my life. Rush is truly "a measure of love and respect".
2112 overture/Temples of Syrinx. Geddy Lees vocals unleashed.
You should check out "Subdivisions" and "Limelight"
Then let them moan lol were here for you ❤🇨🇦

🏆I too was a "guitar guy" for years, until I began listening to RUSH, and Neil Peart! You might as well start at the beginning, "Working Man", from their Debut album, RUSH. (P.S. It's the only album to feature RUSH'S original drummer, John Rutsey). ☮

Thanks for doing this! If you want another amazing 3 piece band, please check out The Joy Formidable...song called 'Buoy'. Absolutely superb wall of sound with a female vocalist. ❤
time to check out a live performance-recommend WORKING MAN in cleveland
Just found ya.. Glad to see the enjoyment your getting from discovering the Rabbit Hole of RUSH.. You can watch this video hundreds of times and will still find new things you missed previously.. Lots of messaging of their work spread all through the video
If you want to hear a more heavy side of rush... with crazy guitar n bass activity.. check out one of their older tunes "Working Man"....... or even the Epic "2112". Also.. Since your diving into musicianship... Check out concert video of Neil Peart performing solo.. ... jaw dropping stuff on the drums... I think he has over 100 pieces in his combo kit. Good Job!
If you want some good advice, there are many many good Rush songs. But short cut to 2112 the full deal with the animated video it will literally blow you away. Also check out Neil's drum solo i think from Frankfurt, about the best drum solo by anyone ever. If you want a couple songs, The Trees, Limelight, Necromancer, Subdivisions, ... but nothing is more impressive than 2112 with visual aids.
Next..."YYZ" from Moving Pictures album. It's an awesome instrumental. Keep going with the studio versions for now then you can check out some live stuff once you are familiar with the songs. That's my 2 cents :)
Rush: Three musicians with an overabundance of talent...unlike anything the world has ever witnessed.
I found your "hunch" that Geddy's voice could be more powerful to be kinda funny. He was initially known for having a very powerful, high, and almost shrill voice on some of the early RUSH stuff. You should listen to the end of Cygnus X-1 off of "Hemispheres" if you want proof of that. This period of the "Permanent Waves" and "Moving Pictures" albums is where the band went from epic 15-20 minute suites to five to six minute songs; and Geddy modified his singing to be less piercing. This period is also where The Police were a HUGE influence--witness the "reggae" section of the song mimicking jumping around on the radio dial looking for some music you like.
Whoever moans about Rush truly don't know anything about good music.
Always have and will be a huge Rush fan...100%. Have always loved younger people watching older videos for first time. Your reaction, ItsMollyBoy, is just fantastic. Your facial expressions are great to see. Been fan myself since their beginning. Their live shows were always spectacular. Great job Mol...🎤🎶🎸🇨🇦🇬🇧
Try The Trees, YYZ or Working Man. They have loads of BANGERS.
Got to see Rush play live at Hera arena in Dayton Ohio. It was a really small place that had a Lotta good bands come through it but it’s gone now. Bonham opened up for them.
RUSH !!! Give Deep Purple and Rainbow a listen if you want to hear great guitar and vocals
That was really fun...love these guys; so unique and perfectionist... great react! Please at some point when you do more Rush reactions do "Working Man" really hard and iconic...earlier stuff--- I heard Geddy Lee say in an interview when asked what song he would want to play for his last ever live song before retiring and he said "Working Man"
Rush is a progressive rock band. They say! It’s just RUSH & ROLL
I’m thrilled that you are enjoying listening to Rush! I think they’re a love/hate band. I don’t know anyone, personally, who is on the fence about them. But, I’m absolutely here for your enthusiasm towards them!!!
There are a few life altering Rush songs that I can't wait for you to discover but you need a bit more time before doing Natural Science, Jacob's ladder, Xanadu, La villa Stangiato and others. But we'll get there eventually !!!!!
RUSH is an acquired taste. Don't like them?.. acquire some taste.
Every single song in this album permanent waves is fantastic, but they're so deep of a journey you can take. It depends what you like. Unfortunately I wound up going to college and starting a family and so forth, so I don't know much of the stuff later than two albums after this. I'm really into the early stuff. I hope you go there. There's so much to enjoy. Holy cow. I'm happy for you
Xanadu, if you think you’ve been impressed so far….you will really know then.
