    Dude I've tried all the aftermarket wrap around handguard brands and those ktm that mount to the master cylinder are by far my favorite. They never pop out, they are always perfectly in line with the levers, they don't take up more real estate on the bars, and if you crash and you don't tighten your master cylinder down tight on the bar like a moron, they rotate. And they've lasted the longest for me. Never going back to cycra, acerbis, fastway, etc

    • @PNWEnduro
      @PNWEnduro  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good to know. I was wondering about how they would hold up being plastic but you make a good point. I would think the way they mount could also be an advantage because the likely allow the bars to flex more where the aftermarket ones mounted to the bars at both ends make your bars stiffer.

    Both are awesome bikes. I recently changed from a 2020 Husky TE300i to the Sherco and love it. it's worth mentioning the tunability of the Sherco compared to TPI. The carb allows you to tune where the TPI just doesn't (although some would argue it doesn't need tuning). Cant go wrong either way.

      The two companies as a whole sure but when it comes down to local dealers and parts actually in stock I have several KTM dealers nearby that carry very little oem parts where the one Sherco dealer has lots in stock. The tps sensors that keep failing on tpi bikes are very hard to find right now as well. Of course not everyone will have a Sherco dealer close by so parts become more of a concern but there are mail order places that can help as well.

      Good point also Id rather run a Stic metering rod on the stock Keihin carb than a smart carb and it’s better performance and save about $400.00 so that takes it back quite allot and as good as the WP is today, it’s still the same WP as found on the base XC-W, KYB ln the Sherco is allot of value considering he base Sherco Race has WP.

      @@maverick2242 A good option. If anyone really wants the tpi, gas gas ec300 is a great option because you essentially get the xcw with linkage. Less bling but you can buy some with the lower msrp. Comparing gas gas to sherco also makes the 300 factory look like a great buy because it's only about 700 more with significant uogrades. I have a few videos featuring the Smartcarb. Here is the first one I did back on my 2017 KTM 250XC th-cam.com/video/4XfAJ42-i0A/w-d-xo.html
      For me the biggest advantage is it compensates for elevation and temperature changes. You will also get better mileage. Samrtcarb claims more power and reduced emissions as well.
      I have ridden the Sherco 250, it's quite similar to the 300 but not as much torque.

    7:15 your mention of the closeness in price with the Smartcarb added (not needed for most owners) is also downplaying the need for suspension work on the KTM for almost every owner.
    The KTM is certainly not Ready To Race, but you can definitely race a stock Sherco 300 SE Factory.
    Otherwise a good no nonsense video presenting the facts 👍
    I understand that you are in the US so the pricing reflects that, but here in Australia, the Sherco FACTORY is $500 aud cheaper than the stock KTM EXC 300 TPI, and $3200 less than the Erzberg!
    (yes you read that right)
    😳

    • @PNWEnduro
      @PNWEnduro  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Dangermouse I did mention the suspension is a whole other debate but I've ridden a few 2021 KTM brand bikes and the suspension has felt pretty good to me. For me the SC is a must and a big reason I switched back to a carb bike but I agree if you are not riding the big elevations changes I do it's not nearly as much of an advantage.
      Yeah, the pricing, I see the Sherco is significantly less in AU as well as in Europe. I would guess if the price difference was similar over hear the interest for Sherco bikes would be even greater. Even now the local dealers are selling all the 2021's they get often before they hit the showroom floor. Thanks for commenting, I have enjoyed your Sherco content as well.

      Yes, I understand your riding location dictated the move to the SC.
      I'm hanging out for Shercos EFI system as I think that carbs should have died out long ago.
      I do love my bike, but stalling in steep hard enduro terrain, wondering if it will start cold (which it alway does now since map updates) etc is tedious.
      On the supply issues, our big Sherco market in Aus has seen us get a little more stock than some countries, but ever bike that arrived this year was pre sold - zero dealer floor stock.
      Sales were double last year and would have been approaching triple if stock was available... Crazy times 👌
      No better over at team Orange locally.... there are no more 21s being shipped (as of April) and they're taking orders for 22s for 3rd 1/4 delivery!!!

    • @SmartCarbFuelSystems
      @SmartCarbFuelSystems 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Danger_mouse consistent running at varying elevations/temperatures isn't the only reason to consider the SC2. They also increase performance throughout with around 10% more peak power compared to well-jetted stock and they provide 25-30% greater fuel economy. Being a single circuit design with no overlapping circuits, the power delivery they give is very linear/controllable. We're looking forward to Greg's mileage feedback in future videos.
      Shercos will be carbureted for a good while longer if we have anything to say about it 😉

      Would love to see some dyno charts for comparison guys.
      I commented on your helpful install video that it would have been the sort of thing you should have included. 👍
      On the Sherco staying with the carbs, we've got 2 years left, tops.
      2024 Euro emissions mean that thankfully we will finally see efi on the bikes 👌
      As a mechanic who has dealt with efi since the 80s, it will be great to not worry about needles, jets, floats and fuel taps and have a bike you can just lie down on the ground 😉

    • @SmartCarbFuelSystems
      @SmartCarbFuelSystems 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Danger_mouse we'll be putting them out soon. The new dyno just rolled in last week.
      Sherco already has the injection ready to go, they just don't want to do it for the additional cost, complexity, and performance issues. Ultimately they'll have to make a move, to your point regarding emissions, but the SmartCarb competes with TPI on that level too - already having been twice emissions certified here in the US for on-road motorcycle use, without catalysts too. Being a sealed system with no external vent lines the SmartCarb is also capable of meeting forthcoming evap emissions requirements. Check-valves in the vent passages of the SmartCarb prevent fuel leakage out of the bowl, offering tip over flooding protection, at least long enough to pick yourself up off the ground anyway 😉
      Merits to each no doubt but there's still room for innovation in mechanical fueling. Do stay tuned, first up on the dyno is a 21 300TPI vs 21 Beta 300RR with SC2.

      TPI bikes certainly have some big advantages and they are only getting better each year.

      @Rick Riede my buddy's tpi bike took four months for the dealer and KTM to diagnose and fix, this was a big factor in my decision to make a switch this time.

      @@PNWEnduro Unfortunately 99% of dealers are clueless on the TPIs. There’s better info on the forums for troubleshooting. It’s actually a very simplistic FI system.

    Yamaha yz250x is by far best value in this market, it's made to add parts YOU want keep price down.2022 msrp 7500$

      Depends what you consider value I guess. For me it would need E-start, hydraulic clutch and a Smartcarb to even start to be on the same level as the standard KTM. By then it's the same price or more and you still have a more MX oriented bike with a five speed transmission.

      @@PNWEnduro I think Yamaha s thinking was to get the bike out at basic level and customer's add the parts they want.I prefer the 250x for the suspension and parts availability, I added a lectron carb , bigger tank and still had a few grad left .To each it's own but I love Japanese bikes

      @Jon Smith all good. I know a lot of people love the YZ's so they must be doing something right. It's good we have so many brands to choose from these days.

    only the Tpi system is worth $ 1000! the vibrations and having to mix gas! ktm for ever! The Sherco is more expensive for what you get!
