This device only has one memory module - this is the first laptop that uses the new LPCAMM2 memory format, the new design meant to replace SO-DIMM. Different from SO-DIMM, LPCAMM2 uses more efficient Low Power (LP) memory.
Doesn't the camera get dirty and scratched when it goes outside the computer on the new model? Also, the back of the computer shows a lot of fingerprints in the video.
Nice review. Some stuff you prefer on P7 over P6, I might disagree, but I do not have the P7 (yet). But in general, Thinkpad/Lenovo are great laptops. Why companies buy HP, I still do not understand.
Hey, did you see if the gpu really runs at 60W or a bit higher? What is the performance like vs the p1gen6? And can you do a vulkan benchmark with the 4060? I think during the tests it used the intel arc
Thanks so much for this video! I have a P7 headed my way here soon, and I'm excited to get it. Just curious, for gaming purposes, have you run any comparisons with the P1 G7 against the Legion product line? I wonder how this workstation would hold up. I'm assuming with the RTX 4060 or even 4070 (which mine will have) it should perform VERY well. Thanks again! Andy
Hey man, thank YOU for the kind words and congreats on purchasing the P1 Gen 7, wonderful device! Regarding gaming - it's supposed to be the same or I might be crazy and say a little bit less than the Legion line. The Legion line is gaming oriented, beefy fans, beefy device, looking different. I've felt like the P1G7 is doing great, I could do some gaming testings on it if you would like!
Its only 60W for the thinkpad. The legion lineup has an effective 100W tdp for gpus. It makes sense the thinkpad is weaker since it smaller compared to its gaming counterpart
hey, do you recommend the p16 over the p1 a lot regarding fan noise? I just got my p1 and found the fans horrible & ~3-5x louder than the old X1E gen 2. I am thinking about buying the P16 instead, would you recommend it regarding fans? (I know you said so re the P1 gen 6 in another model).
I have more Thinkpads/Lenovos (w520, to p1 gen 6). The keyboard in general beats HP, Dell, etc - and when you talk about travel - well, the w520 have a nice long travel!
i think 4k is not suitable for thin laptop. although it is impossible to compare other device and p1 gen, i have a terrible experience of 4k xps15... very ver hot (nearly burning) and continuous fan spinnin in the idle state. i will not get 4k thin laptop before intel or amd catch up macbook
@@ihk5812 thank you for the reply! I had a x1 carbon gen 9 with a 4k screen and it also runs incredibly hot. It also kills the battery (maybe I have 90 minutes battery now just typing notes in word). I may just get the 2560 x 1600. Cheers.
I am glad that they changed the keyboard to longer key travel but hate the Ctrl & Fn. That's what I like about Thinkpad (Ctrl more reachable). I guess can swap them back in the setup.
Hey all!!! Sorry this is a bit of a selfish post, but maybe not if someone is in need. I have a comment up above, I did order the P7, and it’s a beast. However, and I know this is taboo, but I think I’m going to go the MacBook route. So, I have a $3,000 usd machine that I’m looking to now sell. I have about 12 hours logged on it. I’ll reset and wipe everything but the OS. I’m looking to get 2,300 for it. If anyone is interested or knows where I can potentially sell this at a fair price please let me know. The machine is flawless. Even the box and all the packing material is preserved. Thanks all!! Andy
Hey, no worries at all! Glad to hear you liked the P7 - it’s definitely a powerhouse. If you’re looking to sell it, you might also want to check out some PC or gaming forums, or even local second-hand electronics marketplaces. Places like eBay, Reddit’s hardware swap communities, or dedicated Facebook groups could help you find a buyer more quickly. Good luck, and thanks for sharing here!
@@asterx_obelix653 That device is REALLY new to the market and it's not fully "updated" with the best drivers. Usually it takes up to 3 months for a new device to be fully stable
By touch you mean the touchpad? never happened to me on the P1 Gen 6, sometimes the keyboard but not the trackpad. Anyways, it does not seem like it's going to have that kind of an issue, but only time will tell
Thanks for the video! It would be great if you could also do some gaming tests. I really like the P1 Gen 7, but I'm a little worried due to the low TGP of 60W and the low Vulcan Score.
This model is for business, so stability is much more important than cutting edge functions. I hope lenovo stop chinamizing P1 series. They can play with consumer models instead.
Hello super review ! Would be possible to do a review of the p14s intel ? There is whole new chassis and bigger screen. Seem to be the real descendant of the t14 and legit comparaison with the P1
You might be right, but the router was literally 1 meter a way from me, and seeing better performance on older types of wifi adapters just makes me feel like it's wrong. Driver updates surely are going to fix it - and if not, that's very sad.
I ordered mine with the RTX2k GPU for battery reasons though I would've preferred to pay more to get the addtional cooling. I hope it's the right choice. Therefor I hope his battery life is not as good, comparatively :D
Nice video and congrats for being the first to upload a review of the new P1 G7. Btw, the RAM looks smaller because its a new type of RAM called "LPCAMM2", its like 50% smaller than DDR5 SODIMM. Sadly that its soldered.
No, it‘s not soldered. The P1 Gen 7 is the first laptop with the non-soldered LPCAMM2 (developed by Micron). So you now can replace/upgrade it like the good old SO-DIMMs.

thanks a ton for your great review; you answered most of my questions. Thank you again!
I love mine, it’s not the fastest, best battery life, etc but it’s well balanced.
Noise is good ?
@@Rednunziomostly silent, but under load you can hear the fans but nothing too annoying….about what you hear in the video.

Thanks for the review. Do you think this is the best workstation available today?
Does gen 7 have a little magnet that keeps lid together with the body when you close it?
Of course it does!
That magnet tells the laptop to go to sleep or not
Compared to the p16 gen 2 which one would you choose?

(I know you said so re the P1 gen 6 in another model).
To be honest, I think that the P16 makes like 10-15% less noise. P1 is thinner, so it has to make up for itself being thin
Did you buy the i9 185 by any chance? I'm not having any problems with the 165 at all
Hi!
Could you swap FN and Ctrl key in BIOS?
@hzoltan13 you can actually change it through Lenovo's app, Lenovo Vantage. There's no need to do it through bios anymore!

Depends. not too loud, but can be heard easily if you're stressing

It's runs hot like a usual workstation, at about 70-80 Celsius degrees.
And it's not too loud, it's OK to live with even when it's on full speed.
