I grew up around drag racing. Although it's a bit more expensive on the rally side, it seems like way more of an experience: you can land last place and still race the entire day while having a blast
Yeah I actually grew up around drag racing too, it’s definitely much cheaper and readily accessible to race pretty much everywhere, but rally is definitely unique and a really fun experience.
Airbnb and a cooler full of lunch meats, cheese, bread, etc. save a bunch of money. I think the roughest part of the expenses are unintended costs. My first rally we had to replace the radiator in the tow truck on the way there. Second rally we put a hole in one of the tires on the tow truck during recce (that one tire cost the same as what I paid for a set of gravel tires on the car), then mangled a reiger strut on the 2nd day. Rally ain't cheap, unfortunately. Highly recommend anybody who wants to do it come up with a budget that they can contribute to all year so they have the money built up for the events.
Packing food ahead of time is a great way to save a lot for sure. The unforeseen costs are definitely what get you and having a budget with a decent amount of extra, in case you run in to those issues, is a great way to circumvent having to break out the credit cards while you’re stuck on the side of the road.
I have been researching rally startup for six months. glad I found your channel. you really break down all the stuff I am asking questions about. thank you.
I race in the california rally series for rallycross. Got 5th last year and should he holding 2nd right now. Hopefully we still have a season for the rest of the year
I found your channel a couple days ago and was hooked watching your videos! I love how you documented everything from tearing down a car and turning it into a rally car and running a rally successfully! Props to your wife & you, you're doing a great job! Cheers from Germany!
Just found your channel a few days ago. Really liking it! It’s on my bucket list to do at least one Rally, and your information is VERY helpful to get that accomplished. Thanks and Semper Fi!
This vid has been in my watch later for years, and I finally got around to it now that I've surrounded myself with all things rally (media) in the past year! Great stuff, hopefully I see you at an event sometime!
Haha yeah it’s a little off putting when you add it all up, I can’t imagine running a more expensive car and trying to be competitive in a faster class and be a privateer teem.
I wanna start a local rallying club, or organization. There's ALOT of gravel rural roads in southeast missouri to go on. Along with 6 or 7 counties that might host an event
We toyed around with this idea in Wyoming and got nowhere. Wyoming is full of perfect rally stages. We got to where we were doing really sloppy underground stages for fun.
It would depend, I know of a few TT's in rally and they have done well, but, as far as I know, after market stuff for rally would be hard to come by, which usually means fabricating a lot of the stuff. Plus, they're pretty small and having extra space is definitely a plus with all the stuff you need in the car while you race. Most of the time trying to find a used and all ready built rally car is your best option, it's usually much cheaper and saves you a lot of time.
As a Rallycross car it would be great starting out, as long as it’s not lowered. For a stage rally car though, you’ll run into issues finding parts that can stand the abuse of stage rally, which means it would mean most stuff would be expensive to fabricate and have to be custom. The best way to get a starter stage rally car is to find one that is already build. It’s usually around 2-3 times cheaper than building one from a stock chassis.
Hey, I’m 18 and going into the Air Force I’m going to try and hold my own car while I’m in. I’ve done local races up in Alaska where I live but when I’m out do you think there’s any possibility of somebody like me finding a team to join or at least to get started in the industry?
11 miles per gallon and ot cost 250 dollars to go 600 miles hahaha wtf how cheap is diesel in America its £2 per ltr in the UK hahaha my audi a3 1.9 tdi would cost me 4 times that to travel 600 miles jeez haha hate UK at times
Let me know if you guys have creative ways to cut costs on running any Rallies!
Dude I found your page love It but man were you ever in jville?

Nice! I'm hoping all this blows over soon, definitely would like to make it to some events this year.
How do you get into it in California, I feel like cali is trynna hide things like that. It’s hard to find even on the internet

That’s awesome, thanks! I’m glad you’re finding the videos helpful, definitely makes it worth it when people getting into the sport find them useful.

Love the information, thank you! Just started tearing into my 09 and slowly prepping, using a few of your videos as guidance!
Great video. I am a bit scared to record my expenses but I guess it makes sense 😁

You can claim your loses in taxes.
Do you have a video going over how much your car was to build? If not i would be very interested i seeing one!
I have one of how much the roll cage cost but not one of all the expenses on the car. Would probably be a good idea for a video though!
Honest question. How do you guys afford this? How do I get anyone interested is advertising/sponsorships?

Yes dude, Missouri is perfect for rally
We toyed around with this idea in Wyoming and got nowhere. Wyoming is full of perfect rally stages. We got to where we were doing really sloppy underground stages for fun.
I am also in Missouri. Lots of rallys here
Rally racing AND a Miata in the background of your studio? Consider me subscribed!
Do you think an Audi TT Quattro would make a good rally car?
It would depend, I know of a few TT's in rally and they have done well, but, as far as I know, after market stuff for rally would be hard to come by, which usually means fabricating a lot of the stuff. @@DirtyGarage thanks for the reply.
I knew there was a reason I liked your channel!! Was a 31 about 20 years ago.
Awesome! I was an 11 for awhile.
What do you think about 6th gen fwd celicas as a Rallye car?
As a Rallycross car it would be great starting out, as long as it’s not lowered. For a stage rally car though, you’ll run into issues finding parts that can stand the abuse of stage rally, which means it would mean most stuff would be expensive to fabricate and have to be custom.

was that the Tabors around the 5 min mark?
Thanks for the breakdown and tips
Thank you!
How can anyone afford this!? Crazy how expensive one weekend/rally is!
It’s definitely not cheap, but neither is any form of large scale Motorsports. That’s why I’ve only done a couple over the years haha
Go Karting is around 20k for a weekend at top level

In looking at the 100 acre wood rally, it says the cars have to be street legal. Why tow a street legal car?
I see that Marine uniform... it always was the best looking dress uniform, but I was never a fan of MARPAT. Thanks for your service.
Thanks dude great vid!
Your videos are really cool!!
What about sponsors for you?
Heck, I'd save even more money by driving my rally car to the event
😂 bet you'd be the first ever. Better drive real slow so you don't break anything😂😂. Save even more by sleeping in your car too.
@@theonlyshooter202 Its been done fair bit!
I know a good amount of people that have driven the car to the rally at least once : )
I want a dirty garage sticker 😁
cost increased to 69... for the meme i am willing to spend the extra 9 bucks.
Why did Rally America end?
And how does it compare to ARA rally?
😳🤗 crazy cool
Oooh Rha Marine.

Unfortunately this was three years ago, prices for diesel have since gone up about 2.5x
