- In late September of 2023 I boarded the Discovery Princess in Seattle, Washington and set sail on a 7-day Alaska cruise with three friends. In this compilation video I’ll share the whole cruise with you from our flight from Austin, Texas and embarkation on the Discovery Princess to our return to Seattle, disembarkation, and flight back to Austin. Along the way we’ll visit Ketchikan, Alaska,; cruise Endicott Arm to Dawes Glacier; explore Juneau, the capital of Alaska; walk the streets of Skagway, Alaska; take a scenic trip up White Pass on the White Pass and Yukon Railway; and sail into Victoria, British Columbia for a quick evening stop before returning to Seattle. Along the way I’ll show you life onboard the ship, food and dining options, and give you a complete tour of the Discovery Princess during a sea day. Come along as we cruise to Alaska and take you along with us!

Excellent video! Thanks for sharing 👏🏽
Thank you so much! I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment.
You did an outstanding job chronichling and sharing your cruise to Alaska. This is certainly one of the best and most detailed videos of an Alaska cruise - very all encompassing and detailed. Your voice is so calming and clear. Thank you so much! I am contemplating booking a cruise for me and my husband for a July sailing about the Discovery Princess; however, I'd like an Ocean View room, at least - and none are available. I'm thinking about booking the Inside Cabin and praying for an upgrade.
Thank you so much for the kind words! Cruises this year are already so full! I hope you can upgrade. Although there are plenty of places with views, I did spend a good bit of time on my balcony and was glad I had it. Hope you can get the cruise you want and have an amazing time! Thanks for watching and commenting,
Great video! Thanks

I thoroughly enjoyed your video! We were on the Discovery Princess, on this exact Itinerary in May, and are returning, on Discovery Princess this coming May for a second cruise, but this time seeing Glacier Bay... Thank you for posting this video!!!
Thank you so much for the kind words! I saw that Discovery was cruising to Glacier Bay this season. That's a cruise I want to make as well. I hope you have a great trip! Thanks for watching and commenting.
I love cruise 🚢
Great video - thanks!
Thank you so much and thanks for taking the time to not only watch but to leave a comment. It means a lot.
Nice to see it all in one shot.
Thank you! I always like to put the whole trip together at the end. I'm always surprised at how many people like to watch it that way.
Great video!! Very informative. What month were you on this cruise?
Thank you so much! We took this cruise in late September. It was cool and rainy most of the cruise but it was to be expected in Alaska that time of year so I just dressed appropriately and didn't let it bother me. I loved cruising during this "shoulder" season. Thanks for watching and commenting!
great video thanks family members are getting ready to go on a cruise to ALASKA ALSO !!!
Are they going on Discovery also or another ship? I hope they have a great trip! I'm already ready to go back. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Great Video, just curious what camera and power source do you use. We'll be going on may for that same trip, same ship and your video help us to have a preview of that great trip. THANKS,
Thank you so much! Believe it or not the only cameras I used on this trip were my GoPro Hero 9 when I was outside with plenty of light and my iPhone 14 Pro for inside and lower light, everything at 1080HD 60 fps. This is actually my normal way of creating video. I hope your trip in May is great and your trip will have Glacier Bay! Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment.
I have limited mobility and endurance. My last two cruises to the Caribbean I rented a scooter. I used it to get from ship to the port shopping areas. Also used occasionally on the ship. Could you share what handicapped individuals you observed? Also, what kind of distances from ship to port? Are there golf cart types of transportation from ship to port?
I was actually traveling with two friends with mobility issues. One rented a scooter. They didn't leave the ship at most ports but did take the White Pass train in Skagway. Everyone was very helpful with that and took them by van up to the train. They loaded the scooter on the train car with us. It was quite a ways to the main part of town in Ketchikan but there seemed to be shuttles though I didn't actually take them so I'm assuming at least some were accessible. Juneau seemed like it was the easiest to access with the scooter. We realized after the cruise that it would have been better if we had booked them excursions ahead of time that would have taken them to key places. I believe their biggest frustrations were onboard with things like using the scooter in the elevator at busy times. It would often take ten minutes or more to find an elevator with enough room. Also it was hard to fit the rented scooter through the cabin door at times. I did not observe golf cart types of transportation. Hope that is helpful. Thanks for watching.
@@findushere thanks. That does help. I have used a scooter on two cruises and they were a help. Sometimes it is so far from ship to port or excursion sites. My biggest concern. We are just doing two excursions and I think I will check with them. This is my third Alaska cruise and I have already done several excursions. My very favorite was the float plane trip to some lodge for a salmon bake.
@@bettyjames5827 The float plane trip sounds fun! To me the excursion buses at Alaska ports are close to the ship but I'm not sure about all of them.
Thanks Great Video
I’m sure you have heard this before.. but you sound exactly like Billy Bob Thornton . Are you from the same area as your accent is very similar to Billy Bobs 😊
I actually have not been told that before! I believe he was born in Arkansas and I grew up in Texas so the accents could be similar. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
I’m very interested to hear how many luggage one needs to pack for such a trip? If one for you I guess it will be two for a woman 😂. And do you think mid May is a good month to travel on an Alaskan cruise?
I traveled with one large checked bag and a backpack but I packed two large coats for friends in addition to mine in my luggage and also a sports jacket for formal nights. I also packed a flannel pull over and zip up and a waterproof shell. If I hadn't been packing the big coats, it would have been too large for me. One lady in my group was able to pack in one checked bag and small carry on minus the coat I packed for her.
I think May is a good time but I hear it can be cool and rainy one week and beautiful the next. That being said it rained on us all week and since I was prepared I still enjoyed it thoroughly!
Many thanks for the details! I packed my Waterpik for the 4-day cruise to Cozumel 😂
This might be off topic but I would like to know how close to your cruise are you notified for cabin upgrades bids. I will be in Barcelona a few days before the cruise. And not sure if I will have WiFi and email access. I really don’t want to miss out on this opportunity. I would like to hear from anyone who has bids accepted
I'm sorry I don't know about this one. I didn't attempt to upgrade my cabin so I have no experience unfortunately. Wish I could help. Thanks for watching and commenting.
how was the weather throughout your stay? we are looking at September 2025
It was for the most part cool and rainy with temperatures in the 40s and 50s. It was raining in every port but Victoria but it rains a lot in the Alaska port and especially at this time of year so I was prepared and didn't let it bother me. I still enjoyed the cruise! Thanks for watching and for your question. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions. I hope you can take the cruise and have a great time!
What month was this?
This cruise was the last half of September...September 17-24. Most of the cruise was cool and rainy but I anticipated that at this time of year. Thanks for watching!
How long are you in each Port?
We arrived in Ketchikan at 7:00 a.m. and had to be back aboard at 3:30. We arrived in Juneau about 1:30 after spending the morning cruising Dawes Glacier. We had to be back aboard at 8:45. Skagway arrival was at 6:45 a.m. and all aboard time was 4:30 p.m. Victoria was very short after a two-day sail from Skagway. Arrival was at 7:00 p.m. and all aboard was at 11:00 p.m. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and commenting.
It looks like it rained all the time. Bummer.
It did rain in every port except Victoria. We did have mostly rain free evenings and sea days on the ship. I was prepared since it was fall in southeast Alaska and still enjoyed it a lot though. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@findushere You produced a great video of a lousy trip. Next time I hope that the weather co-operates.
@@cruisecrazy7066 Thanks! My next cruise is to the Caribbean so maybe better luck with the weather.
Your tour narrative and pictures are great. Your background music is annoying. I made this tour on the Princess line with my husband in 1998. It's interesting seeing many of the things I remember. We did not have as much rain on our July trip.
Sorry you didn't like the music but thanks for watching anyway! The ships have changed since 1998 but a lot of the ports look surprisingly the same. I traveled to all of the ports by ferry the year after, in 1999. I think September is often a very rainy month. Thanks again for watching and commenting.
What hotel did youstay in? How was it?
We stayed at the hotel Nexus. It was a bit far from the airport, north of the cruise port. It was a good hotel at a good value with a good Indian food restaurant next door. Not knowing the Seattle area, it was arranged by the cruise planner. The biggest thing was transportation expense to and from the airport and port. I might stay somewhere closer next time. Thanks for watching the video and for your questions!
cool vid, but the guitar on repeat puts you to sleep
Sorry you didn't like the music but thanks for watching.
Tried watching, difficult doing so with annoying music.
Sorry the music annoys you but for most it's an important part of the production.
