Discovering Homestead Heritage: A Craft Village Adventure Near Waco, Texas
Join us for a delightful day just outside of Waco, Texas, as we explore Homestead Heritage, an intentional Christian community known for its commitment to simplicity, sustainability, and exceptional craftsmanship. Nestled near the community of Gholson, Homestead Heritage offers a unique blend of agrarian living and artisanal skills.
Our visit kicks off with a meal at the popular Cafe Homestead. Though we didn’t have a reservation, we enjoyed a lovely 30-40 minute wait exploring the craft village. Don’t miss their delicious country fried chicken and homemade rolls!
Craft Village Highlights: We explored the Gift Shop, showcasing handcrafted treasures from antique barn furniture to artisanal soaps and quilts. At Heritage Leather, we dove into the world of leather with unique goods and hands-on classes. The Potter’s House allowed us to watch skilled potters at work and browse beautiful, wood-fired ceramics. We also visited the Homestead Grist Mill, where we witnessed traditional flour milling with fresh, organic grains available for purchase, and explored Heritage Fiber Crafts, discovering weaving, spinning, and knitting with supplies and equipment for enthusiasts.
After a fulfilling meal, we checked out the Homestead Market and General Store, offering locally sourced foods, organic products, and homesteading supplies. The quilt shop was another highlight, where we observed skilled artisans at work.
We also visited the Waco Waffle Company, a new spot open Tuesday - Saturday, and the Mohawk Valley Inn, a historic inn relocated from New York. The Cheese Cave was a fascinating underground area for aging cheese, and Brazos Valley Cheese offered a chance to sample a variety of cheeses and see the cheese-making process.
We ended our visit with a handcrafted coffee from Heritage Coffee, nestled amidst gardens and ancient trees.

    What a beautiful video! The music and your soothing voice create such a lovely atmosphere. We're planning to take the same cruise next year and would love to hear your thoughts. We have a room on the port side of the ship, just like you did. Were you happy with that side? If you don’t mind sharing, could you let us know what deck or room number you were in? If you book a Princess cruise through the Tourism Maritime Service. Please tell me how to book in person and apply for an affordable and safe port of call tour without getting scammed, although it costs a lot

      I have never heard of Tourism Maritime Service. Booking directly with the cruise line through the princess.com website is an easy way to do it. Once booked you will have many excursion options through their website and app. You can also use a travel/cruise planner who can do it for you. Do a little research and see what other people think before making a decision. I use Allison at Let's Go Travel Tips who has a very active TH-cam channel I would recommend. Hope this helps. Last week, I went on a Discovery Princess cruise to Alaska from September 6th to 14th. It's a shame that the time was short. The video reminds me of where and what was. I couldn't use the pool because it was cold to Alaska, but I want to ride it again. Cruise is a trip I want to try often. If I don't do it, I'll regret it.

      So glad to hear that you went and enjoyed the cruise. The weather is pretty unpredictable this time of year and can definitely be cold and/or rainy. This video was filmed about this time last year and I just went with an open mind and determination to roll with it. I loved it and the time aboard was way too short. My next cruise is coming up in a month. Keep cruising! Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Been coming to Branson from Minnesota since 2000. Most years in July. Last year was September and now this year we are going first part of October. We have slowly been spreading out to see the attractions away from town. Last year was Dogwood Canyon. A piece of advice for new comers to see shows, leave yourself travel time and try to make your turns right hand off of hwy 76 strip. Left hand turns crossing the busy road can be trying. The maps show the green, red, yellow routes very well, but may not be as straight and direct as they make you think. We take back roads from our timeshare to Hollister and the Landing , it’s a fun drive with many curves, hills and overlooks.

    • @findushere
      @findushere 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      These are some great pointers! If I'm actually trying to get somewhere, I just avoid the strip. There are so many choices now compared to the "old days" and the crowds are more spread out with everything not centering around just shows on the strip. You are so right about the routes not being straight though! Hope you have a great October trip! Thanks for watching and commenting.

      There are certainly a lot of commercial kinds of places there but there are also things like historic creek street, the lumberjack show, the salmon run when in season, and many opportunities for wildlife and scenic daytrips to Misty Fiords National Park nearby. There is also opportunities for locally sourced salmon and other seafood in restaurants there. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Wow! The Princess line went right in there up to the glacier. We were on Royal Caribbean Quantum of the Seas, and the captain said he decided to turn around before even coming within a glimpse of the glacier because it wasn’t safe. I just read a blog where a person complained that the staff (same cruise line, same ship) knew that the ship wouldn’t go near the glacier because they never do. The person who was complaining said this was false advertising and had a number of complaints about RCL, which resonated with us based on our experience.

    • @findushere
      @findushere หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow that would have been disappointing! I have heard from others that if it was foggy or there was lots of ice they wouldn't go in there but I felt like we got pretty close for such a big ship. It was a perfect day as you can tell so that was a contributing factor. This was in September so there may have been less ice than earlier in the season. Also keep in mind that many of my shots are zoomed in so we're not be as close as it seems but certainly close enough for a nice view. It certainly lived up to my expectations. I've been on several glacier tours on the small boats you see at the ports and that is the way to really see them. They go right up in the ice and very close. Those are great tours. Thanks for watching the video and taking the time to comment!

      Thanks for the kind words. We got there around 11:00 a.m. We took an Uber which dropped us off by the terminal. There were porters immediately available to take our non-carryon luggage. I have heard that Ubers are no longer allowed right by the terminal and their drop off point is a little walk to the terminal. I also talked to someone who said there was a pretty long line to turn in luggage on a recent Discovery cruise. I think they arrived a bit later though. I would get there early to avoid as much of this as possible. All of that being said, we were through security and onboard the ship within 30 minutes of arriving. Hope this was helpful. Last night I watched a few bubbly, talkative travel guide videos that made my head spin. Your video was calm, direct, beautifully shot and informative. (which was my only request!) and what to expect from the different dining options (I'm picky about my food wants and needs). Thank you so so so much.

      You're very welcome! It's so nice to hear that what I do is helpful to someone. Your cruise does not have to be stressful. You can find many places on board the ship to just sit back, relax, and take it all in with zero stress. Also the ports are easy to take at your own pace. The White Pass Railway is a great trip. I've taken it many times and keep going back to do it again. There are so many choices of food that I think you'll be able to find plenty of things you'll like that will meet your needs. Thank you again for watching and commenting. I hope you have a great cruise! If you have questions, feel free to reach out.

    Which hotel did you use? Did you like the one you used? I’m researching that same cruise/ship

    • @findushere
      @findushere 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We stayed at the Hotel Nexus in Seattle. The hotel was fine but the location was north of the port and far from the airport which is south. It was arranged for our group by the cruise planner. If I were doing it again I would stay close to the airport or somewhere between the port and airport. Thanks for watching and commenting. I hope you have a great cruise. It's a great trip!

      Thank you! I used a combination of a GoPro Hero 9 and an iPhone 14 Pro. Both have great stabilization so no gimbal was needed. The GoPro worked particularly well in the rain because of its fixed focus. Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting!

    Although I loved seeing everything about this cruise and you did great job of narrating, and the video, the only thing that was off putting was pictures of the food, the shots were to up close and blurry, taking pictures of your food before it is eaten is more appealing than after you have eaten it. But the rest was very good 👍🏻

    • @findushere
      @findushere 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry about that! Honestly in several cases I just forgot to take the pictures and didn't always have good close ups but still wanted to give everyone an idea of what the food was like. Thanks for watching anyway!...and taking the time to comment.

    Thanks for your post. I’ve regularly camped those areas past 50 years. The Pine Beatle has ruined lots of forest and makes me cry. We do have climate change and I’ve witnessed it over my 63 years bc I have memories of what things were like as a child. I only hope that things hang together while I’m here on Earth.
