The main people who were mad at Jaiden seemed to be the people who either didn't understand, or who thought they had a chance with her for some reason and now they know that they don't. They also ship her with a lot of other TH-camrs (most commonly TheOdd1sOut) and now that doesn't really work. It's completely ridiculous and immature, but what are you gonna do? People are gonna act that way.
But yeah, love the Jaiden reactions and hope to see a lot more of them in the future!

See, this is why you don't ship real people with others. It's one thing to do that with fictional characters, but you can't control how real people live their lives. And even with fictional characters, it's not like every single creator out there is going to bend over backwards and fulfill your head canon.

Before the term "Asexual" was coined, people of whom we would now describe as asexual would refer to themself as "bisexual" (or the much older words "Unisex" or "Horatian") essentially under the same logic Jaiden uses in this video, 0 attraction to men is equal to 0 attraction to women, and therefore they must be bisexual

  • @paigemld8181

My experience wasn't exactly the same as Jaiden's obviously, but so much of this video was so relatable. Arbitrarily choosing someone to have a "crush" on because it feels like you HAVE to. Thinking that I was bi for awhile because what gender someone was didn't mean anything to me. The utter shock I felt when I finally realized that when people gush about romance and attraction they AREN'T JOKING. This video would have meant a lot to me if I'd seen it when I was younger and it still means a lot to me now. Watching it for the first time really made me emotional

This video makes me feel indifferent yet supportive.
    I'm heterosexual however I support Jaiden's aero-asexuality.
The only people who I can assume were upset are people who were too braindead to understand (even though she explained it very well enough for someone like myself to catch on) and the sickos who shipped her with another animation TH-cam channel and drew very adult art of her character.
The hate for Jaiden after this videos release was completely unnecessary.
But I'm glad you're watching it and understanding her.

Ok while i love and completely agree with your attitude, i was sent reeling with laughter when i read aero-asexuality. That's not how you express or spell that, lol! I'm glad this video got a lot of attention. I'm Aro-Ace too - this video just helped me confirm that my experiences aren't unique, and that this is a thing someone can be. I had a lot of the same experiences as Jaiden did, you know, "selecting" a crush, not fully understanding what it means, feeling like there's something wrong with you, or that you're running out of time to obtain the cultural definition of "happiness," by finding romantic love. It's really a video that a lot of people need to see, especially teenagers that might not know what being Aro or Ace means, and that might not understand their lack of attraction. And for people who aren't Aro-Ace I think it provides a lot of perspective and lets you see that Aro-Ace people are still people, just people that challenge the popular conception of what it means to live "a good life" or what your relationships have to look like.
We're not sick, we're not traumatized, and we're not necessarily lonely just because we don't have a romantic love interest. We're just people that don't experience life the same way that a lot of people do, and there's nothing wrong with that.

    • @ryuhouchiha
      @ryuhouchiha 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah, Jaiden's video was very helpful. I know I am Ace but seeing this video made me wonder if I am in the Aro spectrum. I've had crushes but had no interest in doing anything about it. like oh I like looking at this person and spending time with them..... ok that's all. I've never had an interest in having a romantic relationship. I was more interested in just having someone I get along with because I don't want to live alone. but a roommate could easily fill that position.

    • @risuwolf
      @risuwolf ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yeah, like I've had people insist that I must be traumatized or have some hormonal imbalance just because I have no interest is sex and little interest in romance. Just let me be if it's not affecting you.
I've also seen people say Jaiden must be lonely and miserable because of this when she clearly states, "I'm having the time of my life," in the video

    • @moonflamess

As someone on both of the spectrums, I completely agree. I'm pretty sure I'm demiromantic, so I have mistaken just wanting to be friends with someone for a crush SO many times, lol. Point of saying this is that even if someone is not on either of the spectrums, there will definitely be people who just... assume their feelings are romantic, because SOCIETY (lol) forces that idea so much. Personally I think platonic relationships with ppl are so amazing and one of the most important things in life!

As a AAA battery, I completely understands everything Jaiden talked about. The only difference would be that while many aroace don't feel attraction and also don't want it, I DO want it. I want to be in a romantic and sexual relationship, I just never gotten a crush, or fallen in love, or looked at a person and thought "they are hot, I wouldn't mind sleeping with them".

Glad Jaiden was willing to share this about herself.

I didn’t know what aro/ace was growing up. People in high school kept trying to get me to rank guys by attractiveness, and I kept giving ratings of 50% because I honestly felt nothing. Finally, a group of girls that bullied me (or at least tried because they were so low on my radar I didn’t even notice them for the most part) cornered me in an empty hallway and tried to force me to “admit” I’m gay. They finally dropped it when I just refused to because I just wasn’t attracted to girls either. I wish I knew about aro/ace then. It would have saved me a lot of confusion…

As someone who is aroace and nonbinary (my friends like to joke that I took one look at the world and decided "nope") it can be a little lonely being the only person like me that I know. Also, she's right. Most people really don't know what it is and it can be hard to answer with details when you're still discovering the intricacies yourself. As I saw another person comment I feel a lot of the hate she got after this video (which I wasn't aware she got until you sId something on it) is from people making NSFW content, shipping her with other creators or have an internet crush on her and took it personally that they were confronted with never having a chance with someone they likely have never actually met or met her at a convention once. It is saddening to see such an amazing story teller who took a stand to spread awareness catching hate for it.

As with pretty much anything, these things are a lot more nuanced and there are many different types of "aromantic" and "asexuality", like Jaden said.
Some aros for example can still fall in love. They simply don't want/do romantic relationships.
As for asexuals: A common misconception is that "asexual" also means "aerotic" meaning that they don't feel any erotic desires, either. But to paraquote a member of the diregentlman channel who is asexual: "The human body has more sensations to offer than just sex."
Also, fun fact, according to the extensive research I did on the topic of "asexuality", if you only have sexual desires for those you are romantically involved with, you technically also count as "asexual".

I still often wonder where the line between romantic and platonic is. Because you can argue that a non-sexual romantic relationship. Is just a platonic one turned up to 20/10.
Now i know the counter point is kissing. But i'd say indirect/short kisses (like monther to child) are platonic, and long/messy kisses are sexual. Kisses just serve as a method to show where the line is.
(There are comedic kisses, thinks buggs bunny, but i'll just assume those are outliers because their comedic)

I've started considering myself to be somewhere on the Ace spectrum relatively recently, not like, because of Jaiden's video or anything, like 1-2 years ago, but still nice for it to be made more well known by popular content creators like her. Not sure if i'm Aro as well or not, cause like, i'm not actively looking for a girlfriend or anything, but at the same time i wouldn't be opposed to finding a girl to spend time with/share interests with that maybe goes a bit farther than just friends, for example, cuddling. I also feel like i'm at least aesthetically attracted(basically you just like the look of) to girls. So to kind of sum up, i don't really care for sex, i wouldn't really go out of my way for a girlfriend but more a "maybe someday" thing, but i do admire the looks of and i think girls are pretty.

    • @leritykay8911

I'm pretty much the same, maybe I do feel a bit of attraction, but I'm living fine without it, and won't go actively looking for it. And yeah, I am aesthetically attracted to girls, or rather, femininity.
I'm a guy, but, that doesn't mean I'm straight. I'm attracted to femininity, which includes females and femboys. But not to masculinity, which includes males and overly masculine girls

It's a great video :) It's nice to see other people sharing what they found in an open space, actually talking as people, rather than being lost and fumbling and with luck stumbling unto answers yourself. Eventually. 'Romance' and all these inter-personal relationship things are really weird and when you're just surrounded with the 'Conventional Expectations' it really doesn't help. I'm in that AroAce space myself, and honestly, aside from like two months with puberty hit hard as a kid, I basically did (and still do XD) the mental arithmetic of calculating what expected emotional responses or assessments should be XD 'Conventionally Attractive' is my honest response to things xD

Jaiden's video did help a lot of people. Keep in mind, this video shines a light on the spectrum of romantic/sexual attraction, which helps even more people, like me who discovered I was demiromantic after watching it. The part where she describes not even having crushes in middle and school and just being like "unlucky" in particular totally resonated with me, and explained a lot. Demiromanticism is when a person only forms a romantic attraction to someone if they get to know a person on a deep personal level first, hence why I wanted a relationship but was never interested in pursuing one and, since I'm not demi or asexual, still found people physically attractive. I'm really glad she made it, I would still be in the dark about this to this day had she not brought this to my attention.

One of the things I really liked about Jaiden's video was when she included the genderfluid flag on a few of the background people. It's a small thing, but we're normally one of the underrepresented LGBTQ+ identities, so it was nice to see.
Anyways, from what I've gathered, there are apparently some people who, despite preaching (literally) that people should avoid sex and that it's shameful or whatever, get really prissy when someone says "I don't experience sexual attraction anyways, so okay." Or whatever.
I don't get it, but from what I gather it has something to do with control.

I relate to her currently. I say currently because I’m not sure if it’ll change. For now I identify with Asexual, but since I’m Trans, I can’t tell if that’s just my dysphoria speaking or if I’m genuinely just Asexual. No way of figuring it out until I transition. All I know is I don’t like it, it feels like a chore not something I want to do, and I just want to go on cute little picnic dates and be a happy couple.

00:05 I don't remember you being less than a mile away. That's ominous.
07:51 Honestly I don't understand why certain people, mostly religious people, discriminate against asexuals as hard as some do. Like, as a gender specialist (not a random title, I literally have a Masters in Gender and Development policies) I know that this is mostly from the idea that you "need" to fit in with what everyone is doing and conform to status quo/idea of normalcy or else you're seen as the "other" and the idea of "other" comes with different schemas even as the idea of the status quo itself shifts yadda yadda-
I just don't understand why certain religious people get it in their heads to be mad about it. Asexual - They either just don't have sex or they don't want it or don't seek it. In a simplified understanding, that's it. Transpose sex with romantic feelings and you have a simplified idea for Aromanticism. What's the problem here? Nowhere is that said to be an issue in the Bible at least, don't know bout the Quran or Vedas granted, so it seemed weird. I guess it's only because they're seen in the larger LGBT group and all the ideological clashes that come with the ones with alternative sex and gender are given to asexuals/aromantics automatically as well.
09:52 Honestly this reminds me of the "I receive _X_. You receive _Y_" meme.
10:26 Honestly I don't feel like an adult either...and I have every reason to considering my life till now with circumstances out of my control...Man this video just brings out the deep stuff, doesn't it?
14:22 I love how the birds also have the stink-eye.
14:31 That specific style of Smash Bros is a reference to Terminal Montage's Animations about video games. They're hilarious if you know the context of the games...Which you don't for most things...But I'm sure they're entertaining in their own way regardless. I Don't think you should do reaction videos to them though. The creator doesn't like that.
14:39 PFFFT. Baby Numbers. I haven't been in a relationship in over 10 years! Haahahahaha...haha...haaaaaa....Loneliness and Existential Crises are two of the things that define me...
17:18 In my case, bullied yes, but more openly ostracized. I didn't truly know what true friendship felt like until 9th grade. And I kept watching shows that had friends do stuff together and have each others backs and being respectful of other's shortcomings etc. and kept wondering, "Why don't I have anyone like that?" Family Friends were the closest it got.

Wow, this is a great video.
So by coincidence, I made a video for my own channel coming out as pan. And one of the things I talk about is how I kind of always had those feelings (similar to Jaiden) but had a hard time putting them into words.
And it doesn't help that I grew up in the 90s, where both straight and queer communities alike could be hostile to anyone who identified as bi/pan.
I don't blame anyone specifically, but I think part of the reason I didn't talk about it more was because I felt I had to meet different people halfway. And that was dumb of me.
In the end, I asked myself a very simple question: "If I fell in love with someone (which is something I want), would their gender hold me back from doing so?"
And the answer I came back with was "No."

Many Christian groups preach love and acceptance I'm Christian too but they would never accept me for what I am the Bible says those who hate can't truly love for God is love but apparently they conveniently forget that when they hate on people like me and Jaiden and the rest of the lgbtq+

It’s disturbing the amount of vitriol that Jaiden received for her video. There’s so many people who essentially gatekeep what it means to be human based off of one’s orientation or the history of their love life. Most parents who get upset over it, act like they’re entitled for their children to eventually have children of their own; only they don’t act like it’ll be their children having kids, they act like it’ll be getting THEIR own grandkids.
NO one is entitled to having children, and for some reason, married couples believe they’re innately deserving of having a kid, whether that be for financial aid, or just for the image of a happy family. However, I think if you want to have kids just for the image of hallmark Christmas cards, or to tell your friends that “Timmy’s gonna become “x” because we want him to,” or just to have grandchildren, then you don’t love your kids for who they are or might become. At that point, you only want kids to posses them, and for them to become everything you couldn’t. Sorry to go off on this tangent, but I feel it’s something that needs to be discussed more.
