Edgar Ramiro is born in Amsterdam. Coming from a mixed-race family with roots in Suriname, Curaçao, Switzerland and the Netherlands. He was raised in a highly multicultural part of Amsterdam, also known as “De Bijlmer”, and in the City Centre in the early ’90s.
As a young kid, the cassette tape was one of his first encounters with collecting music, waiting
hours while listening to the radio to find new tracks to make his own tapes. In his teenage years,
he became interested in Hip-Hop culture and also got exposed to vinyl.
Somewhere around the age of 18, he started collecting vinyl mainly because he inherited a
collection of records from his Aunt from Curaçao.
While cleaning up and listening to these records, he also started learning more about his own
cultural background. The collection contained a wide range of Caribbean Music, Surinamese
Music, Soukous, Zouk, Soul/Funk, Disco, Reggae and Afrobeat.
Playing Vinyl and collecting music in any form has been something which never went away after
this moment. From digging in thrift stores and flea markets or going to his brother's record shop
“Platypus Records”, finding gems from all over the world and sharing this, is what brings him the
most joy.
Gradually he started playing records at local radio shows, bars and clubs throughout the city and
in the rest of the Netherlands and has been a well-known figure in Amsterdam’s nightlife for years.
His main focus has always been to break through the boundaries of genres, cultures and unite
people and inspire them with music the might have never heard before.
Bringing such a wide range of sounds and styles and mixing this in his own unique style, he will
always find ways to surprise people and set any dancefloor on fire.
You can find him playing at his “The Houseplants Show AMS” at Echobox Radio, doing solo
shows at Radio Tempo Nao Para, and his monthly residency at Cornerstone.
Recently he has been playing at clubs and festivals in the Netherlands and abroad, such as
Dekmantel Selectors, Wildeburg, Paradiso, Garage Noord, Weelde, Brilliant Corners, Unit 58,
1900, Sissi’s and more...
