Great review and a very interesting vehicle. The fuel economy numbers will be interesting. But one thing is certain, the speed that this six-figure vehicle will drain a bank account!
Very detailed review Alex. If the battery pack is depleted, how can the engine be started, unless a residual battery charge is maintained for starting. Also, is there a way to jump start the 4xe?
Hybrids always reserve a tiny portion of the battery, but also the 12v system is used for the initial start of the vehicle so that way it can be jumped if needed.
This is basically GM’s two mode hybrid system from 2005 developed with BMW and Mercedes. Guess what the price of oil was then. This is the same/similar system rejuvenated/reincarnated with a plug in lithium ion battery. No surprise in hybrid only mode it only increases mpg by 2 mpg which is exactly what it did in the Tahoe in 2005. Now engineered and made by ZF and the only things that make it more compelling today besides the hp and torque are 25 miles of electric range, lower emissions, a 7500 tax credit and high gas prices.
Ah ok. I didn't know they had next years model detailed out before they even started delivering the 2022 models. The title of the video says 2022 which is why I asked.
I have a neighbor with a Jeep Wrangler 4 x e and has NEVER plugged it in. PHEVs are just a waste of batteries, and they should not be eligible for any tax credits.

I passed through the mountains between Nashville and Chattanooga last week with the battery at "0" in my wrangler 4xe. Never lost hybrid power.
I'm always curious as to how different manufacturer hybrids work. Thanks for your detailed analysis Alex.
It never loses hybrid power about 20% of full battery capacity is reserved and always maintained despite what readout says. The power is ALWAYS there.
As a Wrangler 4xe owner, this was very informative, thanks!
Glad to hear it! -Travis

Very interesting review Alex. As a gearhead, I always enjoy these types of reviews.
The charging port in the cutaway is the European IEC 61851 3 phase inlet.
Such a great video. Very interesting. I just got 23 Overland 4XE and I love it. Thank you for that.
Looked at one of those….I’m still confused…does the gas engine also charge the batteries???

I just purchased a Grand Cherokee for $60,000 4xe

Есть информация когда будет рестайлинг?
Thanks for the reply. Is a wiring diagram for this model available?
The starter being powered by the hybrid battery causes the vehicle to not be able to start while having a dead or damaged hybrid battery.

Where in Austin is this?

This is a piss poor drivetrain. Pass
You describe the engine as producing 270 hp but the jeep page indicates the engine produces 375 hp. Is this a different engine?
270 is the output of the engine alone, engine + motor is 375.
It is amusing, how a plug in hybrid, can L2 charge over 2X as fast as the Spark (B) EVs.....
Is there a reason the floating title at the beginning said "2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe"?
Because that's what this is

Why wont jeep Chrysler offer the option to push a button to hold the energy in the battery for city driving?
they do. you can command ev only, hybrid, or gas only (with start/stop) operation of the system. 3 dedicated physical buttons for it too

Your anecdote is not useful for setting policy. I actually plug in my PHEV.

I mean people are dumb and he probably thinks the only way to charge it is the slow level 1 charger.

Doubling the fuel economy even when the battery is depleted? Idk, as a hemi owner this is honestly tempting
