Chemical sunscreens are a safe and regulated product, at least in the EU. As a black person they are a life saver or otherwise I would run around casket ready. And if were talking frankly, even Zink Oxide is a chemical. I'm writing this because lately a lot of people online are hating on them, making people afraid of "chemicals" and these ppl often also have one thing in common. No shade, but it's better to wear ANY sunscreen then none at all. Edit: please see the comments under this. I responded to Hannah
Plus sunscreens from EU or Japan are stellar. Far superior filters, and cosmetically elegant. In a family w long hx of melanoma, I use a lot of sunscreen & would only chose a US sunscreen if my numerous EU/Japan supplies were completely depleted.
Yes, sunscreen is so important. Especially for the black community, who is often not known to use it. Black and Brown people are often diagnosed with melanoma at later stages than white people. With regulations, I can't speak for the US. But I know that we have a higher regulation standard in the EU than the US for a lot of things. Just look at ingredients for food that are prohibited here but are allowed in the US. Similar to cosmetics. I just wanted to leave this comment because lately, there's a lot of fear mongering going on online.
Chemical sunscreens are surprisingly MORE regulated in the US than in EU (they're classified as a drug rather than a cosmetic). This means it takes decades to get new filters to market (we haven't had a new filter approved since 2004), so it's much harder to find a really nice formula in US sunscreens than what you can get from Asian or European brands. Even the beautiful La Roche Posay formulas you have in Europe are different in the US market. So yes, chemical sunscreens in the US are safe and regulated, but they are often smelly, greasy, sting your eyes, and stain your clothes. I use chemical sunscreens and like them, but I just wanted to share this because I think Hannah probably doesn't intend to imply that chemical sunscreens aren't safe, just that she prefers something else. There IS a ton of misinformation about sunscreen going around at this time so I completely understand why you felt called to leave this comment though!
thank you for sharing this! I default to mineral screens for myself because I've struggled with acne SO much in my life and I've found mineral sunscreens less likely to break me out. Sorry for not clarifying in the video-it's definitely not about being "against chemicals" (I mean...water is a chemical). But it's been a long time since my original experiments with chemical sunscreen, so it might be worth it for me to revisit. My skin is less reactive now and formulas have come a long way since I was in my 20s! I know a lot of people love and depend on chemical sunscreens, which is why I always try to include them in videos when they come in PR, even if I don't give long-term wear-test feedback.
The Merit Bespoke is somehow giving chocolate milk on your complexion. Even though it is rosy, it blends into grungy perfection. It's so so cozy with your hair/eye color palette ☕
I can make every shade from Merit with my Classic Revlon lipsticks 😬. There are some that are great matches or even better for me, and some are combos. Merit Bespoke >> Revlon Mink + Rose velvet. And I use what I have! And like the formula more! I love watching your videos trying out make up! And I love that you don’t just jump on the bandwagon with everyone else about products!
Revlon is one of the best lipstick formulas! Mixing shades, sheering it out and using different liners can give you almost any look. You can even make them matte very easily with powder.
I like the revlon formula better as well. How about a Revlon dupe the vibes for the deep red? That is really tempting me but I'm not shelling out for 3 when I only really want one.
Hannah has used Revlon lipsticks before- rum raisin and mink specifically. I have used Revlon lipsticks on and off since the 90s…and 🥲 I agree w Hannah- the merit ones look and feel much nicer on, and they don’t have a scent. They feel like I’m not even wearing lipstick, don’t dry out my lips, don’t settle into lines, and are less saturated/more muted so they don’t look …off on me. I’m a light med olive. I’ve even turned my 70 yr old mom onto merit 😊
the colors for the auric cheek palette honestly look very deep for Hannah's complexion. I was very underwhelmed by the color selection and shade range but of course, that's just my perspective and everybody is entitled to buying them if they like the colors, Samantha or whatever.
I LOVE the made by Mitchell curve case in lighter, I’m not quite as pale as you but it still works so well. The blushes are amazing also! Mitchell is most well known on TikTok but he is so so good at doing the best range for so many skin tones. I think the palette smells a little baby powdery. They all mix together well and I would recommend it to anyone! I have quite a few different products from him and they are all nice in there own ways ❤
I first came to your channel for the makeup and style reviews but am a huge fan now thanks to your wonderfully, incredibly descriptive language. No other beauty vlogger holds a candle. It's a true delight. I'm off to order your book now and really looking forward to reading it!
woot! this is helpful break from election/world horror/etc. I seems like a small thing but these girly makeupy things help my brain. Thanks so much. ps. yes Bespoke!!!
The color range for that pallete looks impressive. I'm always hesitant to try cream products with my oily skin. I might want to eventually, since I've become uncomfortable buying, and even using, makeup with mica. Or I can just admit I don't wear makeup often or heavy enough to worry about highlighting 😅
I am a pale cool olive myself and I was following your quest for good color match for years - everything turns orange on me as well. But I do not have a saturation issue and I think now I know why! Kackie made a series of videos about contrast, and with my dark brown hair I for sure am medium-high contrast so makeup kinda disapears on my face. The more you know!

But I live in the UK and have access to EU SPFs :)
As a long time credo employee seeing you experiencing iris and Romeo’s complexion product for the first time was so funny. I agree it’s like if you had maybelline matte mouse have a baby with a skin tint. Also clocked the exa brush, I used that on probably 6 people today and it’s so useful!
Not to be dramatic (lol) but you kind of changed my life when you originally reviewed the Refy concealer in 01. I tried it a few months ago and I can't see myself using another concealer ever again, so thanks. (:
Same! Interesting to see them here when I've just tried them out myself. Black Tie looks quite different for me: cooler and more berry-toned than it looks on Hannah. Bespoke is pretty much my ideal colour.
The iris and romeo is a beach vacation dream for me! Its gorgeous, stays well even in humid heat, plays well with others, is so light wright and jyst 'no makeup' and it adds a lil extra protection.
You got me so excited about that MBM palette! Also... you should try one of the Hindash highlighters. Lots of people are raving about them and I am so curious to know if they would work for a pale muted olive like me
So glad to see you excited by the Michell Curve Case, though it is a bummer about the smell. Still, perhaps it will prove useful as you said in helping along other more pigmented products. Thanks for the review!
Made by Mitchell has a grey "blush" that i use to desaturate ane lighten cream blushes and it's fantastic! The brand does a great job with inclusion, and even though it's the bare minimum, it is lovely to see.
I feel like it could've been me who recommended the made by Mitchell pallete! I love mine, I got rid of the pink and the purple ones, literally scooped them out and reported other cream products in the empty squares!
That's such a shame about the smell of the mbm case! I very rarely will use a complexion product that has scent. Thanks for sharing everything with us Hannah. I hope you're doing well xx
I just bought the old gum palette and mixing the bright pink and lilac with the ‘contour’ gum shades makes for the most perfect desaturated blush tones
We need a whole brow tutorial. Most natural beautifully shaped I've seen Also the bespoke is beautiful. You should get their blush minis. Bespoke blush is stunning and would be perfection for you
So glad you got the made by Mitchell lighter curve case. If anyone could figure out how to mix the neutrals and the brighter colors, it would be you! Slight buyers remorse on this one but I think it has promise. I watched videos of someone from the brand mixing a custom shade with a paint knife and getting a gorgeous neutral shade, but I havent figured out the sanitary logistics of storing my own custom shade. Trying to mix it up on my face hasn’t worked so well, especially because it takes a while to dry down if I keep applying fresh layers on top of wet layers. It eventually does dry, and if I tap and blend a little at a time I don’t have a problem with setting (which is why I think mixing and storing a custom color is the best option). I think it smells like Demeter baby powder perfume. Anyways, good luck!! *oh also, didn’t have a lot of success trying to mix a small quantity of a custom blush color on the back of my hand. Once I got a throughly mixed color I liked, I actually found it was too dry to pick up and apply to my cheeks. Also would be annoying to do that routinely (and messy).
Fun try-on video. For me chemical sunscreens work. Mineral sunscreens make my skin tingle and itch, so weird. Also the Merit lipsticks are so pretty but they dry out my lips. I have L’avenue and love the color but can only wear it for a short time. I have their lipliner in Bespoke and find it very slippy. I think they did that because the lipstick is drier and combined they are a nice texture. Is the liner in Bespoke the same color as the lipstick in Bespoke? It looks much rosier on you. It’s very flattering. It drives me crazy that these fan-favorites don’t work for me. Another example is Clinique black honey. It dries out my lips so badly. I cannot.
Super intrigued by the Merit lipstick set and tempted to give it a try. It looks like something has gone awry with the link in the description, though. I'm happy to use your link if it gets fixed!
My acne prone folx...try the ROC AM spf 30. Very lightweight, good under makeup. Chemical filters but it doesn’t bother my skin. I don't put it way close to my eyes though, just up to the orbital rim or whatever it's called.
I got bespoke in the merit cheek flush balm set which is beautiful on the cheeks and lips too! The colour somehow pulls cooler on me than 1990 once on my face but not on my hand, it's kind of sorcery.
That blush palette seems interesting. I don't have olive skin so I'm not sure if it would work for me. I just bought a perfect blush for my skin so I don't actually need a blush though.
Bespoke looks like my perfect lip shade. I've loved the Charlotte Tilbury SUperstar lips in Everlasting kiss, which I suspect is a similar shade a very hard to find something equal! Might try the Merit signature lip sometime with this shade...
I'm a big big fan of Made By Mitchell's cream products. I have all of his color cases. Unfortunately, I haven't picked up any of the Curve Cases because my friend told me they didn't set down. 😭 So I hope you find that they do so I can have an excuse to indulge lol Btw, you should be able to loosen up the stiffness of the product by just stirring it a bit. It will soften up quite a lot (if it's anything like the color case formula).
I want Bespoke on my lips by Thanksgiving. That is my newest goal. It must happen!!!! Also, you look gorg, the light coverage looked great on you! I understand being used to more, maybe a spot of concealer around the eyes... but you do not need it. Your skin is amazing. Is that YSE primer similar in feeing or finisb or effect as the Ilia skin milk primer? I can see it is more substantial and has spf, just curious.
I am on the hunt for my perfect vanity table & I must know, where did you get that table in the background from?? It’s so beautiful w so much storage!!
Can you try the green Prada powder? I feel like with your expertise in green color correctors you'd be a good person to report on how the product delivers.
Is bespoke only in the value set? 😞😩 That red is too bright for me but bespoke looks perfect! I hope they make it part of their permanent collection! 🤞🤞🤞
I would totally buy Bespoke from Merit if I could buy it by itself. I'm not interested in the other two lippies in the set, so it's not worth a buy to me, unfortunately 😞
Question. Does the Merit Tiger just smell more waxy? I bought one from Sephora to replace my og (purchased from merit), and it smelled off. So they replaced it. And it smells faintly waxy.. I just don't remember how the og smelled. My other merits DO NOT smell like this. What are the odds that two from Sephora are old?
Hey Hannah! The new Merit lipstick shades are gorgeous! However, I too don’t care for the matte formula feel. The Lip Matte and the new Lip Blush are the same exact formula, with the Lip Blush using less pigment. You nailed it on the head when you said they felt like they had silicone in them. They are loaded with silicone. In fact, dimethicone is the very first ingredient and dimethicone/vinyl dimethicone is again half way through. I know silicone is considered “safe” however it is also considered a “synthetic rubber”. I will use it as a spatula to cook with but I stay away from skincare, hair care and makeup with any form of silicone (aka: dimethicone. Silicon & silica are NOT silicone). When washed down the drain, silicone accumulates and is not good for the environment. And on the skin, it’s acts like a rubber mask, accelerating the aging process and not allowing beautiful skincare ingredients to be absorbed. I found that after purging all silicone face & hair products, my hair and my sensitive skin started to transform themselves. I feel like I’m aging backwards .. Benjamin Button 🤣. I do cheat and wear some eye and lip makeup products with silicone sometimes but keep it at a minimum. Sadly, I think Merit puts silicone is all their products (blush has a silicone called Triethoxycaprylylsilane). However the Signature Lip has been spared any silicone from what I can see … yay! I LOVE this formula and have it in most every shade (Bespoke being my new favorite!). I choose to wear “clean” products. If it’s not beneficial to my aging skin in some way, it’s out. Ditching the products with silicone has not only helped my skin and hair, it helps limit the overpowering selection of products, helping my wallet 💵 and my beauty product addiction 🫣
Check out sunscreen guidance & details from LabMuffin Beauty. She is a cosmetic chemist from Australia, and she has good head of her shoulders about how non ‘chemical’ is misleading by most brands.
I also choose to not use them because everyone that I've tried has irritated or stung my skin. It's not that I think they're unsafe for people as a whole. They just have never worked for me! And I imagine a lot of other sensitive skinned people feel the same way.
@ i get it, as someone with significant rosacea- as sun & heat triggers. I have a LOT of stinging/irritation from US sunscreens- ‘chemical’ and ‘mineral’. That’s why I switched to some from overseas. I use mostly hybrid combo of mostly chemical filters w a little mineral to knock down the redness from rosacea flare ups.
My boss casually commented yesterday in our zoom meeting that my eyebrows were looking “a little aggressive” needless to say, I was zoned out the rest of the meeting, scrolling Sephora to find “softer brow” products 😂😮❤😊😅
Ok so to make my brows “softer”, I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills soft hold brow gel. I actually use a shade lighter than my brow pencil and just brush a little on after I’ve filled them. It lightens them ever so slightly and “blurs” them a bit without like taking away from the shape.
I think lately the lights you have to film are overexposing you? When you point out the difference of the iris and romeo on your hands, it's totally washed out and you can't see any detail? I've noticed this in a few videos, and it makes it hard for me to use your reviews to inform my purchases when I can't actually see it? Respectfully. I'll still watch but it's hard to see on your face too.

"The packaging makes me trust", girl we have *got* to talk about the psychology of this as beauty consumers 👀
Mitchell has been SLAYING the color options for those with very pale and very deep skin. I’m pretty sure he’s a MUA in the UK!😊
It's wonderful to see Hannah use something from someone who is known for such boldness. It's bringing me joy.

Have you seen Financial Diet's recent video, "Why Nothing You Buy Feels Good Anymore"? I'd love to hear your comments on it.
I did start watching that video and got halfway. Want to finish it still. I feel like Chelsea and Hannah would be friends IRL.
@@melissa.deklerkHannah has been featured on the Financial Diet’s channel before!
Seriously??? I must go find these 2 videos. Love TFD.
HANNAH we need an Auric cheek palette review ASAP PLS ❤
the colors for the auric cheek palette honestly look very deep for Hannah's complexion. I was very underwhelmed by the color selection and shade range but of course, that's just my perspective and everybody is entitled to buying them if they like the colors, Samantha or whatever.
the excitement caused by the mitchell palette working for you is almost palpable through the screen!!! very happy for you
OMG Bespoke is such a gorgeous lip colour on you. You were GLOWING in it!
Maybe try mixing the pink shades in the made by mitchell case with some of the 'contour' shades?
I LOVE the made by Mitchell curve case in lighter, I’m not quite as pale as you but it still works so well. The blushes are amazing also! Mitchell is most well known on TikTok but he is so so good at doing the best range for so many skin tones.

Interesting! I now inherently mistrust tiktok viral products so this is food for thought
Wish they sold these individually, Bespoke looks like my perfect brown!
Still dreaming of a jewelry tour video 🤩
Seconded!
I hope Merit will release Bespoke on its own later on.
The Scent of a Ken Doll: the name of your next book of poetry.
I usually don't commen, but for me, the life changer was the exclusion of titanium dioxide. I always broke out when l used it. And when I was in the hot sunny weather, my body was covered in a really itchy rush.
I personally avoid zinc based sunscreens as they feel heave and dry me out. But I live in the UK and have access to EU SPFs :)
I love the color of that sweater! Such a lovely color on you.
As a long time credo employee seeing you experiencing iris and Romeo’s complexion product for the first time was so funny. I agree it’s like if you had maybelline matte mouse have a baby with a skin tint. Also clocked the exa brush, I used that on probably 6 people today and it’s so useful!
Ps you should try soshe! I like their color choices with the lipsticks (basically a balm) and lip liners
Was waiting for the merit review from you!!!!!!! ❤
Not to be dramatic (lol) but you kind of changed my life when you originally reviewed the Refy concealer in 01. I tried it a few months ago and I can't see myself using another concealer ever again, so thanks. (:
I bought the Merit lip trio. I love the “blush” formula. I loved seeing you discover the “Made by Mitchell” desaturated palette.
I JUST got that merit set in the post today. This video is outstanding in quality AND timing. Bravo.
Same!
Interesting to see them here when I've just tried them out myself. Black Tie looks quite different for me: cooler and more berry-toned than it looks on Hannah.
Bespoke is pretty much my ideal colour.
I wasn't remotely interested in bespoke out of the three but it looks quite different on me than on the website and I am IN LOVE
The iris and romeo is a beach vacation dream for me! Its gorgeous, stays well even in humid heat, plays well with others, is so light wright and jyst 'no makeup' and it adds a lil extra protection.
Merit Signature Lip Satin lipstick has the best formula! Baby is my favorite for every day. Bespoke looks smashing on Hannah!
Ahh I always warm up Merit’s 1990 with another color underneath so Bespoke looks perfect!!

Is that YSE primer similar in feeing or finisb or effect as the Ilia skin milk primer? I can see it is more substantial and has spf, just curious.
How can I get your book in Canada?? You're amazing and I can't wait to read it!
I am on the hunt for my perfect vanity table & I must know, where did you get that table in the background from?? It’s so beautiful w so much storage!!
She had a few videos organizing vanity etc, probably try to search in her channel? It might be listed or mentioned
@ hey thanks so much for the tip! I found those videos and she talked about it in depth. Just what I was looking for, I appreciate your help :)
Can you try the green Prada powder? I feel like with your expertise in green color correctors you'd be a good person to report on how the product delivers.
I bought both the Merit gift sets 🫣
Is bespoke only in the value set? 😞😩 That red is too bright for me but bespoke looks perfect! I hope they make it part of their permanent collection! 🤞🤞🤞
I would totally buy Bespoke from Merit if I could buy it by itself. I'm not interested in the other two lippies in the set, so it's not worth a buy to me, unfortunately 😞
I hope the Merit lipstick in Bespoke becomes available as a single. . .
Try the Korean Makeup, this makeup are create for very light skins.
Hi which brow tint do you use?
Do you have another favorite/alternative lip formula than Merit? The owner is a Trmp supporter so I am not really wanting to buy from them
I've been seeing lots of complaints about the merit lipsticks breaking easily, have you noticed any issues with yours?
BLURSH
"first" book 👀📖👀📖
Oh my, i absolutely need the last merit lipstick, it is all i need from color... But I live in EU :/
🎉
How does Bespoke compare to l'Avenue?

I almost bought a second merit set just to have an extra bespoke 😂

I’m curious as to why you choose to stay away from chemical sunscreens
Check out sunscreen guidance & details from LabMuffin Beauty. She is a cosmetic chemist from Australia, and she has good head of her shoulders about how non ‘chemical’ is misleading by most brands.
i personally find them irritating on my sensitive skin, so maybe that’s why!
She’s previously said they break her out
My boss casually commented yesterday in our zoom meeting that my eyebrows were looking “a little aggressive” needless to say, I was zoned out the rest of the meeting, scrolling Sephora to find “softer brow” products 😂😮❤😊😅
I would have said, "Thank you!" ;)
Ok so to make my brows “softer”, I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills soft hold brow gel. I actually use a shade lighter than my brow pencil and just brush a little on after I’ve filled them. It lightens them ever so slightly and “blurs” them a bit without like taking away from the shape.
👯♀️💄💃🏼
The mitchell palette had so much potential until you mentioned the scent. What a shame!!
I hope Merit adds Bespoke to their lipstick line permanently, because she is gorgeous. I don't wanna buy the set.
Some of MbM's products are intriguing, but I just can't get over his [past?] association with one J. Star. No thanks!
4:20 minutes in, and “frankly” has proven to be the word of the moment. 4x so far. More to come?
