It seems like you’ve really embraced a piece of wisdom that I heard years ago: you can appreciate the beauty of something without needing to *own* it. It goes counter to today’s consumer culture, but it’s true, and very liberating.
I've had to learn this the hard way over the years but once I realised that appreciation without ownership was possible, it truly changed my life and consumption practices. I've found that even just taking a photo of a beautiful garment or piece of furniture or cute figurine can satisfy that urge to own something. You're so right: it's very liberating.
I went to work the other day in hot pink pants and a lime green sweater. My co-worker said I looked like a strawberry and I kinda loved that as a comment. I recently worked out that I don't like pattern beyond stripes generally but I love colour blocking and a bold silhouette. Watching your videos, despite the drastic difference in vibe, has really helped me clarify what I feel best in and I appreciate your perspective.
Yes, it really looks phenomenal!! Just a little more tousled than Marilyn, but the wavyness and the volume and length are kind of similar. I could never with my thin, straight hair...
@@katlinhenneberry2587I know what you mean, that brow shape is so characteristic and looks fantastic on Marilyn. I just think they really specifically suit her face, that exact shape will not look super harmonious on just about everyone... But go for it and make it your own, I think it's a great style! :) Edit: grammar
Wait "pin only outfits you would wear entirely" is such a game changer. I have been pinning items I like and it's not cohesive at all. It's meant I've had high heels, crop tops etc that I would NEVER wear! And I was wondering why I wasn't vibing with my inspiration *runs to repin*
Hannah, as a lover of jewelry, I would especially be interested in seeing you expound on your style shift, but with a particular focus on jewelry (and maybe other small accessories). I loved the video you made of your earring collection a few years ago, and if I remember correctly, many of your beloved pairs of earrings at the time were more maximalist pieces. I’d love to hear about how your jewelry collection and your perspective on it has grown and developed over the last few years!
Early in the video you were talking about white, cream, black, and taupe, and mentioned brown and camel as “pops of color.” Girl, if you think brown and camel are pops of color, you absolutely need a neutral wardrobe! Also. If you have, say, 250 images and ONE of them is a print, I think you just like that print, and maybe you shouldn’t clutter your thinking with the idea of keeping a couple of pieces that are prints. Maybe a nice, neutral print belongs to your fantasy self. Loved this video! You rock! 🥰
This section helped me think about why some prints in my closet get worn and others don't. I'm a small and young looking and I think many prints "make a girl of me". I just realized that the prints I actually wear a lot have structure and sharp lines (stripes, checks, plaid). Revelation!
@@emmafoley8987 😊Once made the mistake of wearing a designated "Church⛪️" dress to the office🏢 when I was a young 20something. It was a solid chambray fit & flair dress that was the height of femininity. It had perfect swish for waltzing & two-stepping in too, but I never wore cowboy boots👢 to work. Well, a modern soap opera style peer my age said I looked "so pretty & country", but it was something she'd "NEVER get away w/wearing". Maybelline truly had skill🎯 for diminishing other women😔. Always had a girlish 🐰Alice in Wonderland quality about me. Floral & flounce always brought out that inner girly-girl🎀 essence even more, so I avoided them after that in a professional setting. Still hate when 😼catty women cut down other gals who look perfectly lovely in ultra feminine dresses, esp. as they age. Now, on the other side of the spectrum, I know I'd feel absurd & try-too-hard in such dresses no matter the occasion. All the fashion critics today prefer petite prairie🌼 flowers these days, but they feel too precious on me. I can only tolerate the bigger botanicals🌺 on a skirt. Otherwise, I stick to patterns in 🤏small doses like on a scarf🧣. Plaid, pinstripes, polka dots, paisley, leopard prints🐾, abstracts, & geometrics are my favorites. Still own 3 tiered f&f maxi skirts in black, khaki green, & navy that I use primarily for country western dancing🤠 & related concerts. These colors make this silhouette feel slightly more sophisticated. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
It's really interesting to me that you legit can have one moodboard for your style. There are at least 4 distinct people i want to look like and ive come to terms with making each season its own person
That's why I struggle with style so much. I want to dress like Barbie. I want to dress like I stepped out of the 60s-70s. I want to look like I live in a little cottage in the woods in a fairytale. I want to look like a librarian. I want to dress like an explorer living in the jungle among gorillas. I want to cosplay a highlighter It's all over the place!!!
I've been dying to tell someone about this who might actually care, and this comment section feels right: Super high-waisted wide-leg pants recommendation: Siena Wide-Leg Italian Wool Pant from Banana Republic. I've been obsessed with COS pants for a couple years now, but these have an even higher rise than the current COS ones, a crazy-long inseam, a lighter-weight 100% wool, and the same adjustable inner waistband with the elastic and buttons that COS does.
@@mackendrew Me too! I never shop at Banana Republic- it usually feels like they lean too corporate for me and not "Fashion" - but they got these pants right. And they do major sales- I got mine for $90 each! Ok, I gotta relax. Thanks so much for listening 😂
Get a sky blue coat, it"s so versatile!!!That colour kinda works like denim! When I was pregnant I couldn't find any coats that fit...but then one day I found this a-line coat, sky blue (I was having a boy so it was PERFECT❤) and made out of this very soft, "curly" wool. The shape of the coat now that I'm not pregnant is very mod-like, 60s vibes and I love it! I just adore to wear it with red accents - but I do love contrast in my outfits. You could pair it with rust and/or camel, it would be perfect on you...
The way you evaluate, analyze, and apply almost third person is incredible. Thank you for inviting us as you think our loud. Content creators like you help us to integrate such a process into our lives, adding so much color (no pun intended) into what can feel like the monotony. Getting dressed is one of the most simple, yet impactful decisions we make for ourselves
Your approach of creating a Pinterest board pinning pictures that show outfits you would wear exactly as shown instead of pinning pictures in which you like only the pants, the shoes or the blazer etc. is simply genious! 🔥Will definitely start making one myself and I am positive it‘s finally going to reveal what I truly, deeply love and not just temporarily like or fantasize myself wearing. Thank you so much for your valuable content! 🙏
😊 I've only dabbled in Pinterest so far for inspo, but still haven't found a lot of looks that I'd copy from top to toe. Of course, I typically search for ideas on one piece that's tripping me up. After my sessions, HLPs success in this direction seems pretty 💫miraculous. Maybe I am doing something wrong... 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
Yeah I have an “inspo” board, an “outfits I would actually wear/actually fit my life parameters” board that narrows down the first, and an “outfits I can wear now” board that has outfits from the first/second board that I can recreate with what I already have I also like pin in things write notes of what it is I really like/don’t like- I think Pinterest took away the group note feature though?
It's so funny, my aesthetic is the opposite of yours - colourful and very UNpolished, but I still love your content and find value in it. Your hair is gorgeous. Gorgeous.
I feel just the same way; I love lots of colors and frills/lace/embroidery, and the silhouettes I’m drawn to are the opposite of hers, but the principles are so practical! Love her philosophies on style and shopping.
In thinking about your pops of color, I remembered one of the most helpful tools for mixing and matching color: the Tibi color wheel. They break it into four levels-black, neutrals, no color colors, and bold colors which demonstrate the level of contrast and how it impacts the overall feel of an outfit. The blue with camel is a good example of depth and richness between colors…all this to say when styling your colorful sweaters, if you reduce contrast while using a no-color color, it’ll actually give your look a neutral feel while still incorporating bold color.
@@KatBlack-w5p Okay, I had to google the Tibi color wheel and read your comment like 5 times to understand but you just blew my mind. I just screenshot that last part. Genius.
This is fascinating - I love the way you analyze things! Why does it take us all so long to figure this out? It seems like so many of us have spent so much time - & money - trying to buy our way to a personal style. NOT having to own everything isTHE answer. Thanks - keep up the good work!
Yeah honestly a lot of fashion content bores me so much bc it's lacking personality or individuality in the name of minimalism. It's nice seeing someone reach that point not bc it's trendy but because she appreciates it.
Yes!!! I have basically always worn black and white like this and when I was pregnant I rented a winter coat in that exact blue color from rent the runway and it was THE BEST. It convinced me that a statement winter coat is IT especially when a wardrobe is all neutrals. I now also have a statement boot in a bold color for spring and fall (I am questing for a bold summer shoe). Just one forever item per season that brings color when everything is neutral.
Making a Pinterest board exclusively of pictures where you can see yourself owning the ENTIRE outfit is a fantastic tip. It's so easy to get caught up in the vibe of an outfit while pinning. My personal style boards have always felt jumbled or unrealistic and I never knew why until now!
I'm only halfway through the video but the idea of making a specific moodboard of only outfits I would 100% wear felt like one of those things that was so obvious I couldn't believe I'd not done it; I paused the video, went through my "outfit inspiration" pinterest board of 293 pins, and discovered there were 11 outfits in there I would put on my body. No wonder the inspiration board wasn't all that helpful when I was using it to try and analyse my personal style: it reflected what I liked to look at, not what I liked to wear. I have somehow, in spite of this, managed to curate a very specific look that I like in the last year or so but I actually felt a little sad doing this exercise - I think I'm still struggling to let go of my past, more experimental self. Maybe I'm not ready to admit that I've grown up, even if I like who I've grown into (says the person who turned 30 yesterday and thought they weren't having a crisis about it) 🥲
Loving all the creamy neutrals, especially the outfit with the blue bag! I've found SO much value in your style and fashion videos. I've historically been all about mixing and matching color, but you're inspiring me to experiment with minimalism. The other day I put together an all-blue outfit with a pink jacket and felt sooo calm and refined it was insane.
Absolutely love your style, you have changed the way I look at clothing and how I wear what I already own, I’ve started buying the soft trouser pants in the relaxed baggy style with high waistline and I love them , I’ve also swopped out synthetic fabrics for wool and wool mix, I’ve also stared buying a limited pallet so everything goes together, thank you so much for your poetic beautiful voice too I could listen to you all day.
I just adore these stream of consciousness videos and getting to go along with you as you sort out your wardrobe. There are so many tidbits of advice that I absolutely am taking as I start to build my wardrobe. I also work from home and want to dress in a way that makes me feel good and not like a blob. I'm also finally in a place in life where I can buy fewer nicer things and really develop a personal style that I want to have. I've followed a lot of fashion advice previously from other folks, but yours is the only advice that really gets at the root from start to finish and provides solid frameworks along the way. Your video on dressing for your lifestyle is a gamechanger! Thanks for being you and bringing all that you do in the world.
‘TONE’ and ‘SILHOUETTE’ seem to be the two approaches revealed by your board. I feel you have already curated pieces that fit these two things? I so appreciate you including us in this journey and inviting us to join you in the same quests. This community is so great. Also, that you saved reviewing your Pinterest board just for this video is so delightful. ❤
Thank you for sharing that one little criteria of only adding images to the board when you would actually wear the whole outfit IRL. 😅 I think this might be a Pinterest game-changer! ❤
To everyone who loves HLP’s haircut but thinks they can’t do it themselves: You can! I have fine hair and it looks quite thin if I grow it out. However, I have the same length hair as HLP and maybe even slightly shorter, and my hair looks very full! Obviously, my hair doesn’t look like HLP’s, but I still love it! So, to all my fine hair friends who are considering the cut, do it! I think every woman in her lifetime should cut her hair above her shoulders at least once. If you’re hesitant get a long bob first and see how you like it. But please don’t convince yourself out of the style!! With a great hair stylist, ANYONE can rock a bob. (BTW this is also coming from someone who has chubby cheeks and a bob still looks great!) Loving the hair Hannah!
I love the way you articulate your wardrobe goals! You manage to paint such a vivid picture with your words while also showing actual visual examples. I feel like I COMPLETELY understand what you're trying to get across. Despite the fact that our aesthetics couldn't be farther apart (I live for intense color and femininity), I definitely jive with the ideas of "fewer, nicer things", a strong sense of structure, and a cohesive closet curated from what I already own. This journey you've been on is so inspiring and motivating. Can't wait to see more!
I recently came across someone that showed they intentionally trained their Pinterest algorithm both in style but also for their body type and this blew my mind 🤯
I remember watching your older videos and feeling like you would look so good in neutral colors… and now you’re shifting towards that kind of palette! In contrast, I only wore black, white, cream, and camel and I am now learning about my color season and contrast, etc. and trying to branch out into wearing more colors! Just a beautiful reminder that expressing ourselves through fashion and makeup can be a boundless journey ❤ PS I love these relaxed, casual talking videos of yours!
This is such an inspiration for me! I'm 32, I'm about to get married, and I'm in a place financially, with my fiancé's help, to begin to build a quality wardrobe. We do not have much excess, but my fiancé is also of the mind to buy something of quality once that will last a lifetime rather than finding the cheapest thing possible and buying it over and over again. I have begun with two brown leather bags that are different sizes and styles but the same color and the quality of the bags has been such a relief as I carry them every day. I get to watch them get worn in slowly, knowing they are tough enough to hold up rather than disintegrate before my eyes, and I'm so excited to research my own style and find the key staples of my wardrobe to upgrade.
Living for this. Southern hemisphere so the high waisted wide leg merinos transitioning into the cotton and gauze but same silhouette. My neutrals are black, navy, and a murky olive. I have also realized that the a line skirt is my friend. The tops have been all over the place, so now curating down the colors. I work from home but hub is a diplomat, so level 3 is absolute minimum even at home and most days 4 and a great sprinkling of 5. After your level video, I was able to viciously curate my level 5, yeet level 1 entirely, the barest level 2. Currently trying to pare 3 way down and I need this planning process for 4 SO much, so thanks again.
I love this! One thing I will say is that I have been experiencing a similar change in style preferences, and I also have young children (4 yo and 6 mo). I have been hesitant to declare that my style is forever changed because I think it's possible that my current strong preference for minimalistic style, neutral colors, etc is influenced by the chaotic nature of life with young kids. My wardrobe is one place where I can feel calm and in control, or at least try to project that image, and I am truly curious to see if I will go back to more colors and patterns once my kids are older and life feels a bit calmer. Not to knock what you are doing here, just something I hadn't heard you talk about and was wondering if you considered it when deciding to move to a minimalist wardrobe.
Loafers are generally such a structured look - and I’ve thought about them as well - but since so many of your pinned looks have a softness I think flats would fit very well.
It’s so fun how I feel in doing the same but in the opposite direction… I’m actually adding color to a very neutral, full of grey wardrobe. But indeed personal style is all about curating and finding who you are, right now.
I can't wait to see the lookbook based on your new vision. I can see you in everyone of those outfits you pinned, this style suits you so well, it embodies your tastes and values
Thinking about clothes, styles, wardrobes and all that sort of matters, makes me forget for a while of worries and black thoughts... it is such a relief...
Just switched over to my laptop to watch this. Pretty sure I will screenshot every few seconds. 3:20-- you're sharing your Pinterest board with us!!!!! This might actually change my Pinterest algorithm to find things I like!
I really love these kind of videos. All the ones sharing the curation of your wardrobe and fine tuning your personal style. I used to work in a lab, with most of my days wearing a lab coat… in practice, this means that I never had to think much about what to wear… This worked ok for several years (as I kept the personal style that I developed during my 20s). However, as I get older, I feel those clothes do not fit my personal preferences anymore, and I will need to be more mindful about my choices. This videos will be super helpful in my journey. Thank you for sharing your mental process for this 😊
Your makeup and hair are gorgeous!! It works so well for you! I remember reading a mid century fashion tip that said to buy everything in one color and stick to it. It said that your wardrobe would have so much more flexibility that way. The older I get, the more I find myself using that tip
Loving your hair. I think you’re already doing this in everyday, real life. I think the closet that you look at daily just needs to catch up so you can “see” that it is actually happening. Can’t wait for the next video.
I have been on a capsule wardrobe journey myself. Your video ‘how to look put together’ (or worded something like that) was the final piece of the puzzle. I now dress monochrome (navy and denim blues). Now, instead of looking at my wardrobe for inspiration, I look outside at the weather and dress appropriately. For the first time in my life I feel effortless and put together! 😊
Feeling comfortable in your own skin and clothing is always the goal. I get how this would be appealing while you’re in the continual chaos of babyhood/childhood. Really glad you’re keeping a little bit of color to boost you on a grey day. Cheers, girl!
Just letting you know this video was such an inspiration. I’ve spent the last couple days on Pinterest as I was editing my closet anyways, one thing that I’ve added to this is that during my Pinterest searching, I would type in pieces that I had that I wanted to keep, but I have always had trouble styling.
Talking from my own experience, basic loafers for me are better than chunky soles. I bought the chunky and now regret.. I would rather keep the basic ones for a lot more long time . For the trouser pants I feel exacltly the same! Why not wearing things you love, even when home office? I do !
hannah, I've been loving all of your videos on how to build a personal style and they just keep getting better. This one is *brilliant* and I can't wait to dive into my own Pinterest style board that I've been saving images to for years, but have never gone back into it to analyze like you're doing in this video. I can't wait! (my aesthetic is also nearly identical to yours in both structure and color, so your style videos are just that much 'extra' for me - thanks!)
By the midpoint check-in I'm set. I'm like this is a fabulous way to analyze our wardrobe desires. I'm so glad to look at the time stamp and see that we're not even fully half way through this video though.
I've been doing this right along with you and I am so greatful that you don't prioritize shopping to get you where you're going❤ It has helped me so much with getting out of that consumerist mindframe. My style is very different but I love these principles you've come up with. I can follow them in my own way. Just... thank you
Your hairstyle...😍 Enough said! Thanks, Hannah, for this content. Changes so challenging & upsetting...menopause/post-menopausal weight gain, decluttering new, unworn or gently worn clothes...ugh. Local folks are going to enjoy many of those items. Still, I need to feel good & be able to pull whatever from my closet/drawers/storage container having it fit! ESPECIALLY with an upcoming, cross-country move. Working through that ...😊❤
When you said something to the effect of "Ask yourself would you wear EVERYTHING in this pin?" it was a GAME CHANGER. I'm off work due to surgery and went on my fashion board. I was ruthless. And now? For the FIRST TIME I see a SUPER CLEAR VISION of what I REALLY love and once I can get up and about with ease? I'm going to use this to do my long overdue closet clean out!!!! I've binge watched some of your videos so I hope this is the right one where you said that LOL.
Love the video and your mood board ❤ Can't wait to see you pick out your capsule wardrobe! I was wondering: have you tried to identify your style words - either using Allison Bornstein's method or one of the others out there? If so, would you share them in a video? 😊
I’ve been doing something very similar lately with my wardrobe in the light of my Pinterest fashion board, but you have articulated it so very well. Thank you! Very inspiring for me to hone it down even further. Also wanted to say that your voice is the perfect mixture of intrigue and comfort - could listen all day. 🥰
I love loafers and have been wearing them for years. This year I purchased a pair of burgundy loafers and wear them on repeat. When we updated our kitchen I collected images for two years and then looked for a common theme. I do this for clothes too. For a long time I stuck with cool toned neutrals such as black, white, gray and navy. This is still prominent, but I have added colors such as; cobalt/royal blue, last fall it was cool toned greens and this fall burgundy(veers cool not warm). The only patterns I wear are stripes. I’m a sucker for a striped button shirt.
Belts have become such an essential accessory for me in the last few years. They Instantly upgrade my wardrobe plus it shows that I have a waist thus 1/3 to 2/3 proportion. It’s a win win!
Gorgeous pinterest board! Looking forward to seeing the outfits you put together inspired by these images! I've been finetuning my wardrobe lately and it has also become more monochromatic with just a few printed & colorful pieces remaining.
Can’t wait for the follow up video! Hope you will be talking a lot about how to match your wardrobe to your inspiration board. It’s actually one of my biggest problems with my wardrobe that I feel like my clothes are not good enough and because of that I will never look like women on my Pinterest board. So I constantly feel that I need to buy more and more and the wheel of consumption turns 😵💫
I was watching old empties videos and it made me want a new one really badly!! They are so fun to watch and you always have the best and funniest things to say about the products!!! Also maybe for patreon a discussion of your lifesaving products for 1st year or motherhood. :)
Ahhhh the boring household chores are so much easier when I can play your videos on the speaker. You are the dopamine my ADHD brain needs. I absolutely LOVE the silhouette of everything in your mood board I feel like mine would be the same but with a tonne of jewel tones. Random side note have you tried the got2be glued brow jel? GAME CHANGER and drugstore price! ❤❤
Also and ADHDer doing chores and love this channel! I love jewel tones. I seem to have mostly jewel or cream / brown and black. Learning to go through and weed out the pieces I don’t feel so polished in
Your proposed capsule is so lovely! And it has the versatility to serve you well as your needs and tastes evolve. The look of these pieces can be changed so easily with styling and accessories, or even alterations.
Oh my goodness, I have just done exactly the same thing and it was so confronting but it was so confirming to listen to you today! Please share the outfits you create from your wardrobe as you continue on this journey!
such an amazing video thank you... Such a thoughtful way of analyzing expressing in your own poetic way what we all struggle with. Your pinterest board is gorgeous. I would love to see you pick an outfit in the board and recreate it with your own wardrobe ( I thing you did that years ago... I know I have been following you for ages)
Love your videos!! This was such a great watch. Also loving your haircut - looks awesome, so grown-up and cool 😊 At the risk of tossing the “you don’t need the exact thing” advice out the window, where is your necklace from? 😅 💕
Thank you, you got me analyzing about sharpness vs relaxed fit, and feminine vs yang options.. It is also about body shapes, I want more yin shapes, but still needs more sharpness..
Like you, I have pinned outfits that inspire me for what seems like aeons -- but I think your comment that you only keep pins in your board that show an ENTIRE outfit you would be willing to wear (i.e., not simply this top or those shoes) is brilliant! Now I'm inspired to curate my board further and sharpen my focus better. Thanks!
This is such a great idea. Im going to try and do this too. Although, ill be a but behind because im starting my pinterest board whereas youve already analysed the results. I dont have too many colours in my wardrobe but i do have more texture and different shades of blue instead of cream or camel. We'll see the results after ive spent a few weeks adding to my board. Thank you for the inspiration.
I know you’ve been recommended Daria Andronescu’s wonder wardrobe work already but I just have to say it again. You know much of what she has to teach already. She offers the structure for creating super versatile seasonal capsules based on your colors, style, and lifestyle. As someone who has way too many clothes myself but don’t really want to downsize too much too fast (I have much stored away) I shop my bins to make a capsule based on the vibe for the season. It’s so fun. And it really helps clarify what I do and don’t wear and why. Also helps to identify any pieces I actually should shop for bc they fill a gap…can’t recommend enough 😊
hannah - or anyone in the comments - is it worth looking down the path of kibbe or someone like allison bornstein? I love this minimal/polished/oversized/structured look but every time I try I just look like two kids stacked in a trench coat, it’s absolutely comical and I after so many failed attempts is it time to learn “style lines”? has it helped anyone spend less?
It helped me! I was constantly trying to pull off the "cool girl" look with oversized but structured pieces in high contrast of black and white. Like oversized blazers, squared oversized Ts etc. And I felt terrible even though I loved the aesthetic on paper. Then I looked into Kibbe and turned out I'm Romantic and structure & oversized is the worst combination for me 😅 But slowly I learned what to choose for my body type that still fits the vibe I want. Game changer for me for sure.
I have definitely saved money and mental stress by looking into the kibbe body types and figuring out where I fall. I think my biggest takeaway is that you don't have to use the guidelines as "rules", but more to inform one's understanding of why certain pieces will have a totally different look on one's own body vs on someone else's. For instance, I am some kind of gamine, so oversized things are really emphasized on me, what might look cool on others could make me look childlike - nothing wrong with that, but it's helpful to be able to predict with accuracy what effect will happen vs trying to copy an inspo outfit and being disappointed! And it is helpful to have some lines and looks that you know you can always fall back on and you will feel super "right" in them. Like if I need a no brainer outfit, I know that striped tees never fail, and my best pants silhouette is straight leg, and tailored stiff jackets never look off. It's also helpful to know what fabrics work for you with the kibbe system. Most flowy fabrics look horrid on me, and I know I can cheat and wear lines that aren't really suited to my body type if the fabric has enough structure. Sorry for the wall of text, hope this was helpful!
After watching this video I honestly took off pieces in colors I actually don’t wear. Not sure ir everything is going away for good … but my wardrobe is starting to look more curated and cohesive 😊Thank you ❤
I am at such a style crossroads as I've been fluctuating sizes so much over the last year. This is energizing me to shop my closet again for a capsule I can wear for the next month.
This is my favorite video from you so far. I have watched it twice and am on my third go around!!! I have dressed in those neutrals for twenty years or so. I love the nudes the best; whisper gray, cream, very light pinks, beiges and blues. I keep those pops of color in a plethora of very special colors. I consider camel as a pop of color with cream and black. I love listening to your quizical and humorous chatter.
I love this. I am so inspired by your ‘thinking out loud’ videos. BUT the entire time I’m watching this I am wondering what you will do if another 5-10 years down the road your style changes again. My style has morphed over the years molded by living in different countries and having 3 children and being 45 now I can see the quite distinct changes and feel like more of those must be ahead of me. Looking at my past I can’t imagine my style will stand still for the rest of the years. I am interested to hear your thoughts on this?
Thanks for reminding me yet again that I don’t have a single original thought 😂 I have had a neutral palette for several years now, but in this past couple years I’ve added a lot more bold color/statements exclusively through accessories and outerwear. I even have an icy blue handbag similar to the one you mentioned. In terms of fashion I’ve decided I have more than enough basics and I only buy statement pieces that really speak to me. They are great to incorporate once you have all the essentials.
My colors are black (really, like 80%), navy, white, soft pink, mint, wine red, forest green and sapphire. With pops of metallic silver. Also quite neutral, but different from your neutrals, with a few pops of color. Ive always enjoyed dressing like that, its been very me for years and years. My shoe collection is also various black boots and sneakers. Pretty hilarious.
I went on a similar journey when I was first pregnant nearly 9 years ago. I have held onto minimalism, tho slowly returned to more dynamic outfits. But! My dynamic outfits and fun makeup are (often) my only moments to be creative and artistic in my day-to-day life. If I had other art options, then I might’ve remained more constrained and polished. I look forward to viewing Your journey.
I love how this hairstyle is working for you! Very old school glamour. You remind me a bit of Marilyn Monroe.
Yes, it really looks phenomenal!! Just a little more tousled than Marilyn, but the wavyness and the volume and length are kind of similar. I could never with my thin, straight hair...
It is beautiful.
Oh man. Can we PLEASE bring back monroe brows?
@@katlinhenneberry2587I know what you mean, that brow shape is so characteristic and looks fantastic on Marilyn. I just think they really specifically suit her face, that exact shape will not look super harmonious on just about everyone...
But go for it and make it your own, I think it's a great style! :)
Edit: grammar
It’s phenomenal! Like the cut fits your face so perfectly.
Me too!❤
I second this!
Yesss!
Omg yes ❤
Pleaseeee! I'm so curious about how your jewelry collection has changed
Revelation!
Yes! Same! Thanks for this wisdom!

It's really interesting to me that you legit can have one moodboard for your style. There are at least 4 distinct people i want to look like and ive come to terms with making each season its own person
Ooooh that is an intriguing approach! Are you open to sharing your people?
@@architecturaldream1 Spring: Grandma Goblin. Summer: The hollister girl circa 2007 ish. Fall: Miss Frizzle. Winter: Carmen Sandiego but blue and grey
I want to cosplay a highlighter
It's all over the place!!!
Same here 😂🙈
Same here 😂🙈
Please update us on how you’re styling this hair! It looks so elegant and yet creative/playful in the best way
I've been dying to tell someone about this who might actually care, and this comment section feels right: Super high-waisted wide-leg pants recommendation: Siena Wide-Leg Italian Wool Pant from Banana Republic. I've been obsessed with COS pants for a couple years now, but these have an even higher rise than the current COS ones, a crazy-long inseam, a lighter-weight 100% wool, and the same adjustable inner waistband with the elastic and buttons that COS does.
Agreed. I have two pair and LOVE them.
@@mackendrew Me too! I never shop at Banana Republic- it usually feels like they lean too corporate for me and not "Fashion" - but they got these pants right. And they do major sales- I got mine for $90 each! Ok, I gotta relax. Thanks so much for listening 😂
Thank you for the recommendation! Their pants look really nice
I appreciate this! I'm always looking for higher rise pants.
Are you an angel sent from heaven??
I think rust and olive could be some nice colors that would go well with this capsule’s palette and also look amazing on you
Get a sky blue coat, it"s so versatile!!!That colour kinda works like denim!
I bought a Melton wool car coat in this same blue and am amazed at how beautiful it works. It makes my outfits, even with $8 men's cargo pants.
HLP fashion videos are always amazing, reflective, just perfect.
I agree, I love all the videos but the fashion videos are my faves
Perfect! I am obsessed 😂
Agreed!!
💚Bridget from Cali☘️
(using my pal's YT acct)
Yeah I have an “inspo” board, an “outfits I would actually wear/actually fit my life parameters” board that narrows down the first, and an “outfits I can wear now” board that has outfits from the first/second board that I can recreate with what I already have
I also like pin in things write notes of what it is I really like/don’t like- I think Pinterest took away the group note feature though?
not narrow... honed! that was word I kept thinking
Genius.
I had to search the Tibi color wheel as well and discovered how much information is on their site. Thank you for sharing this rabbit-hole
Christina Mychas has a great video on the Tibi colour wheel, as well as lots of great fashion content
Off to Google as well! And watch Christina! Love this community 😁
This is fascinating - I love the way you analyze things! Why does it take us all so long to figure this out? It seems like so many of us have spent so much time - & money - trying to buy our way to a personal style. NOT having to own everything isTHE answer. Thanks - keep up the good work!
That blue purse with the camel outfit looks like the sky over desert dunes. So beautiful!
I like how you talk about color and intention since sometimes fashion content or minimalism makes it seem like we are all allergic to color
I love how open you are to your style has evolving and understanding that life has seasons.
To everyone who loves HLP’s haircut but thinks they can’t do it themselves:
You can!
(BTW this is also coming from someone who has chubby cheeks and a bob still looks great!)
Loving the hair Hannah!
I used your discount code to buy my first Ozma pieces: Two raw silk tees. They are absolute perfection. Thanks for putting them on my radar!
Pinning only outfits I love everything of changed my style today, thank you!
Glad to be part of this journey
I recently came across someone that showed they intentionally trained their Pinterest algorithm both in style but also for their body type and this blew my mind 🤯
Fab video! I’m working towards this. This was visually helpful. The key thing you said was “I could see myself wearing the whole outfit”.
Hannah stop! I can’t cope with how gorgeous you’re looking at the moment. Congrats, you have found your best look ever 🙌🏻
Absolutely!
I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old and I could have written this comment.
You look so so so so soooooo stunning with this hairstyle. I can look at you and listen to you talk about aesthetics for days. DAYS.
Loafers are generally such a structured look - and I’ve thought about them as well - but since so many of your pinned looks have a softness I think flats would fit very well.
Agree - I keep looking at loafers thinking they would be a good fit but actually a soft flat suits me so much better.
It’s so fun how I feel in doing the same but in the opposite direction… I’m actually adding color to a very neutral, full of grey wardrobe. But indeed personal style is all about curating and finding who you are, right now.
Hannah, you are my very favorite TH-camr ever. Thank you so much for what you do.
Hi Hannah- you blew my mind with your pinterest method. Will implement immediately. Can’t wait to see the capsule you come up with!
Working through that ...😊❤
It's duping the vibes, wardrobe edition! Love it!
You are a genius! Only pin outfits you would actually wear… this might be the best idea ever for actually finding personal style 😊
I love loose and drapey and monochromatic looks in these kind of colors
such an amazing video thank you... Such a thoughtful way of analyzing expressing in your own poetic way what we all struggle with. Your pinterest board is gorgeous. I would love to see you pick an outfit in the board and recreate it with your own wardrobe ( I thing you did that years ago... I know I have been following you for ages)
Can't wait for the fall capsule wardrobe video! I love watching videos like that!
Oh my gosh your hairstyle is fantastic!!
Love your videos!! This was such a great watch. Also loving your haircut - looks awesome, so grown-up and cool 😊 At the risk of tossing the “you don’t need the exact thing” advice out the window, where is your necklace from? 😅 💕
I have that ba&sh crochet skirt too, and I just love it so much!
HANNAH! YOUR HAIR LOOKS SO GOOD I'M MAD ABOUT IT!!! ❤
Thank you, you got me analyzing about sharpness vs relaxed fit, and feminine vs yang options.. It is also about body shapes, I want more yin shapes, but still needs more sharpness..
Yayyyy! Ready to see the wardrobe building!
Would love to see what actual clothing you kept based on this inspiration!
Then I looked into Kibbe and turned out I'm Romantic and structure & oversized is the worst combination for me 😅
But slowly I learned what to choose for my body type that still fits the vibe I want.
Me too!
I have printed kimonos in my wardrobe because of you via Etsy.
ahhh your hair is GORGEOUS!
Excited to see the future autumn wardrobe. I really need to hone mine but ... feel a bit overwhelmed at the idea of starting
This video really resonated with me Hannah. Loved it so much and has really inspired me. Thank you 😊
I love this.
Yayy ❤looking forward to see your new fashion styling ideas and your new wardrobe options 😊
Your hair looks great!
First glimpse into your ochre bedroom and OH MY GOD it's stunning. I mean... wow
Thanks for reminding me yet again that I don’t have a single original thought 😂
I have had a neutral palette for several years now, but in this past couple years I’ve added a lot more bold color/statements exclusively through accessories and outerwear.
This hairstyle is sooooooo AWESOOOMEEE on you!
