    Hi MotoJitsu.
    1. As an Australian (with a mililtary and para-military background) and as a motorcycle rider and enthusiast, I love seeing other parts of our amazing planet, viewed from a motor cycle, so yes, I would definitely watch your ride to the Grand Canyon.
    2. Totally support you, whether you upgrade to the new bike or keep you current motorcycle.
    Good luck and safe travels.

Great video! There's a backlash trend out there towards these bigger ADV bikes, and I think it's all just a trend and guys wanting to complain they don’t have the skills to ride a bigger bike. All the points you make, I 100% agree with. I love my 23 GSA, best bike I ever owned, and brilliant for long days in the saddle and just an all-purpose amazing machine!

This coming Wednesday I'm picking up a 2021 r1250 GSA Triple Black (5700 miles) with BLACK RIMS and YELLOW (orange) aux lights covers and a full set of BMW luggage - pretty much the set up you are planning. I have high hopes for this bike, after riding Japanese bikes for the last 20+ years (last one was a Goldwing).
I look forward for your reviews once you get the bike....cause you are getting it, right?! Yea, you do😎👍👍👍

Awesome video! I love hearing your thoughts. I have a 2022 GS Triple Black. I looked at the Adventure but I felt it was huge. And I like stopping for fuel. Stretch the legs, get them back under you. More often than not somebody walks up for a conversation. Which is nice. Long distances can be broken up. I hope you do a video on the Grand Canyon trip. I would love to hear your thoughts. Get the Adventure, try it out. I am sure it is a great bike. Best!

Would love to see that!

After not riding for 7 years, I bought a 2022 F850GS, there were no demo models. I really like the bike, although now I want bigger. I went to a Demo day last year hosted by Max BMW in CT. the GSA was my favorite among all bikes, rode it several times. The RT footpegs were too high, and the handlebars too low, so I was not as comfortable. I am a 59yo 6'1" rider. Yes, film the Grand Canyon trip. Yes, buy the GSA.

    • @MKA63

After not riding for about 20 years, I got the GS Triple Black. The distances I have to travel are not so great unless I go to Western Australia, so the GS made more sense to me over the GSA. The GSA was also a bit too daunting (just a bit too big really). This is however my 7th bike. I'm also a muso, so I call my bike "Black Betty". I'm a 6'2" 60yo rider.

I think there's a cool opportunity in you doing a longer trip and documenting it. Might find opportunities for education in how other riders could approach longer trips. That said, the bigger gas tank seems like it would make doing those longer trips you mentioned a lot more convenient. Thanks for the content. Been helping keep me safe and enjoying experiences as a new rider.

Back when I was in the service I would ride 800 miles from North Carolina to upstate New York and back on a 96 hour pass. I had a 1978 Yamaha XS 400. There were times when is was in the 70s when I left and I would hit snow in PA and ice in the Finger Lakes of NY. Usually 15 hour non-stop each way.

I bought this bike in September. Not the low version but I kink of wished I had got the low version. I rarely ever go off road these days. But I did get the AltRider skid plate too. This bike is way amazing for road trips. Get the original luggage as the key is the same and so much easier to deal with one key. I also got the Nav 6 and used a quadlock for my phone with the charger and anti vibration mount. I just don’t trust the new 1300 yet with all the problems they are talking about. But this one is amazing.

I love my GSA (my second 100,000km on first) the Swiss Army knife of bikes!! I did put a taller windscreen, I’m 6’2” and had a lot of helmet buffeting with the standard screen. I also like the taller screen when passing trucks in the rain and colder weather. I’ve done the BMW level 1 off road course on it and that really helped my skills off road and confidence!! I have a tire changer and flip back and forth knobbies (motos adventure) and the Bridgestones it came with. Multipurpose bike can’t go wrong!! Yes Grand Canyon

Hey brother, I follow you and enjoy your vids & learning from you.
I have the 23 trophy gs w lone rider luggage that I absolutely love.
I do take trips & when I'm tripping I swap windscreen to the gsa version I purchased used but flawless. Bike is a do-all.
I've done 5 dayer into AZ backroads & highways dispersed camping where I can. 1100 mile 5 day. Prescott, jerome, sedona to Flagstaff & Grand canyon. Fueled up every 180-200mi.
I have 2 seats, the stock step heated, and last summer bought stock rallye seat from Europe to match trophy, utilizing that seat for summer around town.
Even did a long one dayer up to mammoth via Kennedy Meadows, had a burger dinner & came home. 750mi day.
Enjoy your knowledge, & your videos and look forward to your input......No Regrets!

Buy the GSA Greg, and take that bad boy to the Grand Canyon on its maiden voyage! Your life will never be the same. And start taking loner trips 5,000 mile minimum and 2 weeks. No listening to anything except the hum of your engine and GPS. By the second week, you should be in the zone. You’ll know because when you walk over to the cashier, you’ll ask, “ what day is this and which state am I in!” But the Grand Canyon is a must. I took my very first long distance solo motorcycle adventure in 2015 on my 2009 FJR 1300 AE, 3 months after my younger brother passed away after long battle with addiction. I had no idea what I was doing, but I just took off and needed to see something that would blow my mind. Grand Canyon did this. Btw, we’re just riding my dream bike. Still have a screen shot of that exact bike on my fridge except it’s a 2015! Good luck on your decision and ride safe. Really enjoy your videos.

I love my GSA so much. The only thing that bothered me was the wind noise and buffeting but I fixed that by placing a larger windscreen. I'm 1m76 (5 9) and the height of the adventure doesn't bother me at all. I actually like being that little bit higher in traffic. You wouldn't think so but it makes a difference.

I just turned 69 this past month. For a number of reasons I sold my Victory Vision Tour and bought a 2017 R1200 GSA for the same reasons you have stated. I love this motorcycle. To me it is a light bike, but I am 6"4" and 270lbs. Compared to the Victory it is a lightweight and I am amazed at how easily it handles at both slow and high speeds. The bigger fuel tank is also a plus. and you do not feel the weight difference. I plan on taking some long tours this season and feel a lot more confidence in being able to do so comfortable. I plan to go for my Iron Butt patch soon. Who says 69 is too old?

Honestly you can't lose owning either a GS or GSA. Though you do get a little screwed getting a normal GS because by the time you option it out with all the stuff the GSA has it basically costs as much or a little more.... But if you're buying used you definitely can't lose.
In your scenario I'd skip the 1250GSA and get a 1300GS or 1300GSA when it comes out. But really you should just do whatever you want to!

    2. For me, I’d wait until after the Grand Canyon trip to decide whether you really need the GSA or whether the GS is as perfect as you thought when you bought it. You can always get a GSA later if you decide it makes more sense.

FYI, I have a '22 lowered GSA Triple Black (black rims). This past July I rode up the Dempster to Tuktoyaktuk and unlike pretty much every other motorcyclist on that trip, I carried NO extra gas! Gas stations in a couple of stretches are over 400Km (ummmmmm ~ 250 miles) apart. With the GSA I have a range of closer to 600Km (360+ miles), depending upon how I'm riding.
If ALL I was doing was riding nice pavement I'd likely opt for a GoldWing (although with the outdated technology at this point I wouldn't do it).
And, when your GSA, fully loaded with aluminum panniers plus a waterproof bag tips over, I need two people to get it back up, especially with a full tank. And, removing the pannier that is down in the dirt can be a bit tough. But that is a minor issue.
In answer to your questions, "Yes", do a nice long trip. Video parts of it and condense it down. Talk about where your skills come into play (there, now its educational). The only thing I'd be thinking about with respect to whether you should move up to a GSA is whether you'll be OK purchasing the 1300GSA next year! In my mind it will offer some significant upgrades (blind spot detection on mirrors, adaptive cruise control, adaptive ride height). The other thing I did on my GSA that you didn't mention is to reinforce the stop lower guard bars, with a hard fall they can be pushed in from the back but you can get bracing that will resist that.

    1. Yes record and post the trip to the GC.
    2. I think you should get the new R 1300 GS Adventure, should be out mid year. You can het the new, light, wheels they look easy to clean.
I guess you can get a sweet deal on the R 1250, due ro the 1300 hitting the dealers.

Yes to filming the Grand Canyon trip. 2. If you ever were to go to Alaska, or across Montana or Canada, it is no sweat with the GS Adventure. The other guys carried extra fuel and were still on fumes.

Do the trip; trade up for the GSA! I have the 23 GSA and added Road 6 tires for my needs. Love it! I’ve had several brands/bikes and this is by far my favorite. I’ve not tried the low version (I’m 6’1”) and the regular is perfect for me. I’ve heard the lower version rides different and harsher than the regular GSA - would love to hear your opinion (e.g. give it a try for us!). Love the 8 gal tank! More than enough performance for my needs while being thoroughly enjoyable in all my riding situations. Keep the rubber side down!

Does you butt get sore or numb on the longer rides? I just got back from a trip...San Diego to PHX and back. I had to use the AirHawk cushion...which helped but dang...def got sore. ...but the trip was super cool. Wasn't expecting 23mph 270 west direct headwinds entire trip even at 6am....

When you got on the bike, I think I noticed that the seat was in the high position. I’m 6ft 2” but ride with the seat in its low setting as it puts me a tad lower in relation to the screen and also lower c of g slightly. I’m currently on my 4th consecutive GSA! I’ve never bought four of anything before, other than beers 🙂

I got a GS verses GSA specifically to get the smaller tank. Didn't want the extra weight up top and most everyone else will have to stop for fuel anyway. ;)

I have the Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer with the 7.9 gallon tank. It’s absolutely wonderful on trips to have the extra fuel on board. I’ve ridden the non-Explorer model. I honestly can’t tell a difference in the weight of the two bikes. You will appreciate the fuel capacity on the Adventure.
Also… video your Grand Canyon trip. It’s a great ride and would make for good entertainment.

Some thoughts after having this bike for 4 years now: on road trips or group rides I stop constantly and watch other people fill up.
Only have to fill up once a week when commuting to work and I drive about 300 miles a week. after 50k miles all I do is change oil and tires pretty much , mx is easy just get a manual and do it at home. You’re probably doing the same? I imagine some electronic thing will fail years down the road but so far so good. If I already had a 2022 gs I couldn’t justify spending more money for gsa it’s the same bike . Also I don’t really enjoy riding more than an hour or two without at least a stop for water or break so the big fuel tank isn’t so practical on road trips for me. It is nice to fill so much less on work commute. Sometimes I take other bikes and forget you have to fill it up just about every time you turn it on.

If you are considering doing long trips, consider purchasing as a "roadie" bike. Go for three or more weeks at a time, and then leave at a storage locker near an airport. Pick it up two or three months later and continue on. North in the summer and south in the winter.

Whenever something is as popular as the GS, constantly outselling everything else in its sector, some people will automatically hate it (look at Android phone users v Apple phone users).
I’ve ridden a LOT of different bikes in my 35 yrs riding, including HD’s but for a comfortable fast touring bike that if you wanted to with the right tyres on could happily go off road, you won’t get better, I’m on my 5th one and just yesterday signed the paper work for my 1st brand new 6th one, the only thing I’ve had around the same number of bikes was HD.
Having said all that, you should decide by riding one, I only took the 1st one (an 1100 ADV) for a ride, after that all the others, I haven’t bothered test riding.

i started with you, and i failed at getting my license since the instructor bullied me 1-2 years ago. I now make a promise to myself that i will get my license and do everything i can to get at least 100km driven this year on a motorcycle.

Take a motorcycle training course. When I took one they put us through the parking lot test so at the end of the 1 week course we left with our licenses to ride by ourselves. It's just an additional road test (in Canada) to get your actual license to ride at night & with passenger. But the training course should give you a license to ride by yourself. It might be different where you're at though. Look into it!
