  • In this first episode of this new series, we do something very risky and buy an old Land Cruiser on the other side of the country. But first, we explore how our love for old Toyotas started.
If you want to support this journey you can by becoming a patreon it’s super easy to set up and you’ll get a few perks

I did a trip from tassie to Perth in a rough as guts 82 shorty 40 in 06, no air con windscreen wiper motor broke in torrential rain outside of Kimba, rust holes in the floor, transport police nearly not letting continue at iron knob, dodgy characters at roadhouse trying to get a lift. Last leg of the journey was 16 hrs without turning it off by the time me and the Misso got to Perth this little 4 cylinder diesel was tapping like crazy with smoke pissing out the bonnet...when we parked it up at my old mans it never started again...it was cooked
    GOOD FUN!
    Enjoy the journey guys🙏

To save money take the 12 volt and touring stuff outta the lux and put it in the troopy turn the troopy into a touring setup and the hilux into a serious 4wd.

I have an 84 in my garage ex army been parked for 20 years just after I replaced the head diesel 4.2 11 seater. She’s got the army green under the beige it was my bros and like the LC GTR torana he pulled it to pieces lost interest and said you can have it. I don’t have kids but his second oldest goes missing sometimes and he can always be found sitting in it swinging from the steering wheel he’s sixteen and it is officials his now. He loves the JIG.

I love the older vehicles, so much more character than the new stuff and engines that you have half a chance of fixing in the bush. The one thing I don't like is the rust that usually comes with the older ones. Our Coaster is 32 years old and there is a never ending battle to keep the rust under control.

I bought one of the first HJ47 Troopcarriers brought into Oz in November 1980. Loved that truck and I put well over 600,000ks on the clock. Me son killed it. So I bought another Troopcarrier (92 model HZJ75) and put over 600,000ks on that one too. Troopcarriers are da bomb.

Great stuff. I had an FJ40 many years ago when I lived and worked around Nowra (Navy.) Sold that when I came back to Melb and now 25 yrs later bought an 80 series wagon and planning on doing lots more much like yourselves. I've got most of the basics tent, stove, chair, wine, a bit of camping gear and will fit out my cruiser as I go.. Your videos have helped me heaps with ideas and places to check out. I continue to watch and see how your new vehicle evolves.

From the owner of a 37 year old HJ60 Landcruiser you have made a good investment. Now that you haven seen some of Australia ship it to Africa then explore Southern Africa, drive up the west coast of Africa get to Europe and then drive to Mongolia. The HJ47 will be worth more outside Australia than in Australia.

Mark Jones hey mate! Since then we have been using some new chairs. Same concept in the design, very compact and light from a company called “red roads”. We have the low back version which we actually found more comfortable than the high back. They are of a far better build quality. The oztrail are a little bit cheaper but they started to crack at the knuckle and aren’t as stable as the red roads. Google “A247 Red Roads” chairs and they will pop up :)
