Interesting info about the time difference from Northern Territory to Queensland being 30 minutes. I live on the eastern mainland of Canada (New Brunswick) where we are on Atlantic Time, but Newfoundland is 30 Minutes ahead of us on Newfoundland time. Until now, I thought we were the only country with a half hour time zone. Thanks.
Awesome video as always Nick and Mathilde. It’s always so interesting to learn about new places and the people that call those places home. Queensland is such a unique place and some iconic 4WD tracks in 🇦🇺 Australia . Thanks for letting us ride along with y’all on y’all’s journey around the world.🌎
I slways smile when I watch your videos. It's a real treat to get to explore Australia with you! You will be watching these videos for years to come after it is over. Your children will be inspired and I imagine you will take little Mathilde and little Nick on your travels. Mini versions of yourselves.❤❤❤
The story of Paddy and that he may have been put in a pie is like the Opera The Barber of Seville. He lived across the street from the pie shop? Interesting story. Loved all your stops! I love a good rodeo! In the US the rodeo announcers are so funny. I love your adventures!
As someone who believed all of the jokes about defenders breaking down, I think it's amazing how little problems Albo has after all of those offroad kilometers! Not many cars would have survived that! Australia looks amazing. Safe travels
2700 kms in 20 minutes. Hard wheeling hey. Good pub crawl though. At the end you went to a Rugby LEAGUE match. Rugby is RUGBY UNION. I’m looking forward to the next adventure now. Safe travels. 👍🏻🙏🦘
I drove up to the Cape York Peninsula from Sydney in 1972. The images of Townsville are a lot different than I remembered, though the landscape is probably much the same. I do remember having to be careful about the little trains hauling sugar suddenly crossing the road. A town I particularly liked on the Queensland coast was Mackay, though I haven’t seen it in decades. Queensland was my favorite part of Australia. Though I’m American, my grandmother was born and raised in Tasmania, so I have some family roots there.
Hoooo the sugar cane train are sooooo fascinating it is insane! Wow interesting background I think I remember you mentioning it! I bet Townsville changed a lot. Must have been awesome to do the drive then! Did you do the tracks then?
@@NextMeridianExpedition 50 years ago it was all tracks. Even some of the side streets in Cairns were dirt. It’s a first class international resort destination now.
That museum looked awesome! Old cars and bikes. You swam with “freshises” but you don’t want to try cowboying? LOL! Nice to have extra help working on your ride as long as they know what they’re doing.
So much diversity in the landscapes of Australia. You could spend years just traveling around Australia. I love the history lessons. Sad Paddy was never found...he looked like a sweet man. Love the trip east!
You mentioned you are going to Cape York next episode. Are you taking the Old Telegraph Road or the regular route? The Old Telegraph Road could be quite the adventure if you can convoy up with some hardcore Aussie 4x4 off-roaders.

Hi guys. I'm learning about Australia with you. Just a piece of information: the biggest rodeo on the southern Hemisphere is is Barretos, SP, Brazil. It last one week and attracts 1 million spectators, every year.
Just started watching your channel and enjoy seeing very familiar routes being travelled by international travellers and getting their perspective on them. Just wondering if you plan to visit Wolf Creek crater or Belangalo state forest while your here? Just joking!
@@NextMeridianExpedition just seen on Facebook, clearly I’m not keeping up to date! Preserving Albo must be the most important thing, plenty of B / C lines im sure!
Wow, plenty of variety in this one. Loved the Prairies Hotel, definitely going to stay there sometime. Did you do that long journey in one day or were you being very quiet and secretive about where you were sleeping in case of being stalked by someone wanting to put Next Meridian Pies on their menu?
Hahahahaha can you imagine … being transformed in pie … 🥧 it took us maybe 5 days taking our time it d say. Our campgrounds were really just rest areas in the fields and uninteresting places
Hi in case you are wondering why the crows are flying around the fire that is because they know the fire will flush out their dinner easy pickings for our feathered friends. Hope you get to see some of Queenslands magnificant Dams many more across the state than most people realise, The Lake that is also Mount Isa's Water supply is simply stunning and you can fish swim and water ski there as well.
Sure you can drive for hours on end and see nothing but endless roads or you can actually stop and have a look around. We did a full lap with our caravan last year and another half lap this year. Instead of going across central Queensland you could have turned north at Cloncurry and headed up to Normanton in the Gulf country and then across the Savanah Way visting the Undara lava tubes and the Volcanic NP before coming out on the Atherton Tablelands above Cairns. If you wanted to experience some history you could have headed south east from Cloncurry to Winton, Long Reach, Barcaldine then over to the coast at Rockhampton. Did you go the mineral springs in Katherine, do a cruise or bush walk at Nitmilik (Katherine Gorge), Did you visit the stunning Litchfield NP, Ubir Rocks or any of the ancient aboriginal sites of the Kakadu NP , while there take a sunset cruise on The Yellow Waters Billabong ? Did you call into Adelaide River or Berry Springs, ? When you went down the Stuart Hwy to the Daly Waters and Larimah pubs did you know Australias1st international airport was in Daly Waters which you can have a look around. Did you swim in the mineral springs or drift down the creek on a pool noodle at Bitter Springs when you went through Mataranka ? Did you drive 10 km off the road into any of the waterfalls/swimming holes or limestone caves along the way ? The impression people will get from watching this video is that there is nothing to see between Darwin and Mt Isa other than pubs or a couple of roadhouses and thats far from the truth. By the way the best roadhouse to stop for the night is the Barkely Tablehands which is half way between the 3 ways turn off and Mt Isa.

Every Australian drive is measured in Beers, not kilometres, and every single Pub is planned out prior to taking off on any journey! 😂 Just be wary that the further away from Western Australia you travel, the more likely that you will not be able to find any Bush Chooks 😢
Hahahahahah all of this is so true! You know how we got the idea for this trip? From Australians telling us they had planned their pubs along the way … we thought : wow ! Never thought of that! And yes we can confirm we can’t find chooky over here b
I'm glad you went through N. Australia, just so that I know what it looks like. Not a high spot on your world tour, me thinks! Anyway, I will be interested to see what the habitated part of Australia looks like. By the way, Australia bought some nuclear submarines. Why does Australia need nuclear submarines? Why does Australia even need a military? Who would attack Australia? I guess every self respecting country wants to have a military!
Yes we did indeed. I would kindly suggest researching the reasoning behind the purchase. Australia is rich in many sought after resources including land. The Oceania region is geographically isolated & security is important. Australia has a vast maritime domain & we depend heavily on maritime trade that needs protecting. Oh & as for our military, while it is small compared to some, it is well respected around the world. Without it we would be speaking Japanese. Does your country have a military?
Very valid questions, do you know why Darwin was bombed more than Pearl Harbour in WW2? Not easy to comprehend but true. Northern & central Australia seem to be very strategic locations - not that I would understand why, but for some reason they are. Up here when travelling you got two options, spend several months checking out all the beauty or do the tourist highlights in a couple of weeks. There isn’t really a practical way to see it all without spending 6 months at least in the region. And even then you’d probably need a few years to do so because many areas are inaccessible for half of the year. There is only one sealed road between the NT and the east coast, and yeah it’s boring and not nice and damn long. Are there other options ? Sure if you have the time, equipment, etc….
@@andrefischer5025 Australia and Japan were at war with each other after Pearl Harbor. I’d guess the Japanese had fantasies of invading and occupying Australia, especially while much of their military was off fighting Germany. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Chinese don’t still hold such fantasies.
@@Reneesillycar74 The only country that might have eyes on Australia's resources is China, and that is a long reach. Besides, they have many resources too, such as rare earth. They don't have oil, but neither do you. It is doubtful China could even take over Taiwan. They don't even have an aircraft carrier. But hey, it is your money. If you have plenty of it, buy a fleet if it makes you feel more secure. God knows the United States, my country, has all it needs and more. They say the US spends 10 times more than the next ten countries combined. Just thought. You may have more whales and fish than China. Maybe they want them.
