I repeat “whatever you resist persists” and I just let myself feel the emotions and they go away faster. I don’t fear panic attacks. I accept that they will happen to me and in turn they don’t happen as often.

I kind of wonder how to do that if your anxiety makes you dissociate, faint, have violent meltdowns or have non-epileptic seizures. It kind of seems like sometimes it can be dangerous to let yourself feel the emotions?

@@toni2309 i’m just speaking from my experience. I used to have multiple panic attacks a day and most of them came from the fear and resentment of having another panic attack. One day I welcomed the panic and accepted it fully. I treated it like friend that needed a hug. That automatically made the panic attacks less frequent and shorter.

My ex husband discovered that certain stuffed animals would help me come out of a panic attacks. He would get me distracted to the point I was laughing. Sometimes he would sneak a small stuffed animal into my purse so I would have something to focus on if I had an attack when I was out of the house.

PLEASE READ Hey I used to have panic attacks regularly ! 3/4 a week and I used to be thinking about them all the time , I came across one random video that assured me I would never have one again if I did this trick and if for some reason I did I had to do the trick again and that would be it gone for life …. I was sceptical ! So apperntly because every time you have a panic attack you panic haha like you wash your face with cold water you run out for fresh air you call someone to you phone the docs you run and tell your loved one, well all these things teach your body that when your about to have a panic attack something bad is happening your going to die so you go into the fight or flight which I’m sure you have heard and the trigger for these could be a random jolt in your stomach Vegas nerve or even just by any small trigger like a tingle or a pain or nothing at all it’s just happens for no reason , and way so here is the trick !!!! I want you to next time you feel a panc attack coming on or as soon as it starts no matter where you are sit down close your eyes and imaging your sitting in a chair in the sea with Wellington boots on filled with concrete so you can’t move , I want you to imagine that each wave of the water comes completely over your head is a wave of panic so the panic attack is the waves in the sea and you can feel them wave over. You and you can’t move don’t talk don’t speak sit there and suffer almost I know that sounds harsh and it will probably be the worst 5-20minutes of your life Literally it was for me. ,(or if they last longer sit for as long as they last doing this method they should be shorter with this method ) by doing this you instantly rewrite your brain into realising that you don’t need to have the same response when things happen in your body and that you are not dying you are safe , I promise you that this works and not only that I promise you anxiety does not last forever I succeed with it for two years at worst couldn’t leave the house and I’m 31 and everything going for me in life but that made no difference it held me back ! Soon as I got rid of the pannic attacks I then focused on my anxiety believe it ot not I done Cbt therapy hypnotherapy just two sessions cost me £80 for each one I’m not sure if it was hypnotherapy that works but it was like mindfulness meditation basically and that does work and I also done cbt therapy from my doctor was a online thing , I’m now anxiety and panic attack free . Wish you and any one who reads this the best ! It does get better and will get better the old you will be back in no time , “And in time this too shall pass”.
My names like robinson I’m a real person I live in Scotland , I’m not botherd if people who know me read this for the first time and realise it’s me as alot of my friends didn’t know I was suffering but now I just want to share this to help other this really did work so spread the world help other I never stoped searching online for all these tricks methods and even came across a lot of people wanting you to pay them it’s sick follow these steps and you can be anxiety free
I did this twice the pretending to be in the sea thing and I’ve not had a panic attack for two years now !! And like I said I was getting them on the regular for no reason !
And I know people will say there is no way I can do that sit still and fell that I’m claustrophobic or I just can’t ! But you can ! And if you can do it , it will work you’ll. be sweating the lot feeling like shit but also you will feel some relief once you get though the excesrsize
(Also just for note I had health anxiety went though the whole being at the docs with my heard and done a million tapes and ecg ect being at the docs all the time for everything and I’ve over come that side of it too so it downs pass !)
Let me know if this has helped I’d love to hear !
Stay strong ❤️ I love you

I’ve had a few panic attacks, and the most important first step for me is to recognize that I’m having a panic attack. I tend to get them in the middle of the night, and the symptoms are a lot like a heart attack. Once I realize that I’m not actually dying my anxiety starts to decrease and I can use the tools that Kati talked about. I guess it comes with experience.

Recently during panic attacks, I've started identifying and rejecting invasive and unwanted thoughts. When I notice one, I slap a big "unwanted" label on it (wrap it in police tape!) and shove it out my mental door. When I tell a thought its unwanted, it helps give me the power to tell it to go away.
I've also started recognizing the moment as safe. Whatever hurt me before isn't hurting me now, and whatever I'm worried about isn't hurting me yet. By realizing the moment is safe, I can breathe in it better.
Your videos are changing my life. Thank you!

Thank you so much for acknowledging that breathing exercises don't always work for everyone. That's all my doctors would tell me to do but it just doesn't make me feel better and I just get more anxious since I'm like "OH GOD IT'S NOT WORKING WHAT AM I GONNA DO". Glad to know I'm not alone in this feeling, I'm still working on finding a good coping technique for me.

Hey…..❤ I don’t know if this helps, but sometimes I just hold my breath for about 20 or 30 seconds then only when you feel ready force the air out in a long exhaling. Then repeat the sequence. The slight oxygen deprivation from holding my breath until I feel ready to forcefully exhaling helps calm my brain and the heart palpitations and panic. I breath like this pattern when I start to have a panic attack and it really helps. It is like the anxiety is helped with the holding the breath and strong exhaling. I believe that the short time of oxygen deprivation until I must exhaling slows down the heart a little and the palpitations stop. Only hold the breath to the point you are comfortable and forcibly exhaling over and over until your central nervous system slows down. You won’t harm yourself holding your breath as you will pass out if you hold it too long……so, do this laying or sitting in bed. I am a nurse by profession and I know that normal respiratory rate is like 12 to 20 breaths per minute. I would guess that this technique helps by slowing down the respiratory rate reducing your oxygen level some and the heart slows and usually stops the pounding heart and palpitations. Try it. It really helps me when I am having panic/ anxiety attacks.

Well this video was oddly timed. I had a severe panic attack at 2am last night, literally came out of nowhere as I got up to pee. Haven't had one like it in over a year. Even though I've struggled with anxiety since I was 8 years old (I'm 25) I've never found which coping mechanisms work for me. I better start researching! And you're right, breathing exercises DON'T work for everyone. My anxiety is focused around how nauseous I feel when it happens, and breathing deep into my belly does nooooot help! Thank you so much for saying that. I've always felt weird or wrong for not liking breathing exercises.

Thank you so much for your content, Kati.
I'm in a position in my life where I don't have any professional support. I look to you and your videos as a free way I can learn to help myself.
People usually try to walk me through the 5 things you smell and 4 things you see or whatever it was, but focusing on the here and now is what was causing my panic attacks. I found a better way. I built a place in my mind. Completely comfortable snowy cottage. I think of that place. what it looks like and smells like. It smells like cinnamon and hot chocolate. Watching the snow fall slowly from the window helps me to control my breathing because counting my breaths never helped me.
I hope you read this and pass on the idea. If the here and now is causing the panic, build a place for yourself in your mind.
I know for some people it might not be as easy as it is for me. I have a lot of creativity and imagination. I also have D.I.D. I feel like those things helped me to build this place in my mind.

I don't have panic attacks that anyone could notice, but I have micro anxiety attacks that make me dizzy and wipe my mind clean for a second. I can disguise this, but I would like to talk to the inner aspect of myself that is hijacking my whole body and mind for a second and let them know we have better skills now than we did "then" (whenever then was and whatever experience the aspect is projecting into my current life). Micro panic's do use up a lot of energy. I'm retired now (or at least semi-retired) and have the time and solitude within which to take a moment and meditate right at the point of the micro-attack and tell "whomever" to stop pulling the fire alarm and just watch for a moment and see how I handle issues NOW. I see a lot of my little dog (barks at everything) in me. I try and train myself the same way I am training him. "Inside voice please. Let's see what you're looking at. Okay, that's nothing to worry about. Come over here to your bed. Good Dog." I feel for the people who are still employed and have to disguise their inner alarms as I did for all of those years.

I usually experience what I call a boom of doom (very sudden sense of something bad about to happen to me) shortness of breath, disorientation, feeling like I’m going to pass out, depersonalization, vision problems, numbness and tingling in extremities and around mouth, high blood pressure, heaviness in my lower limbs to the point of not being able to walk. Paramedics helped me to see that reading out loud helps me and I noticed that a moderately paced walk can help too.

I know you mentioned deep breathing, but I want to mention alternate nostril breathing. I had experienced one of the worst panic attacks and for days after I continued to experience high anxiety. Obviously, it was miserable. I came across a video about alternate nostril breathing and was desperate and decided to give it a try. Within a few minutes, my heart had stopped pounding/racing and I felt more calm than I had in a few days. Whenever I felt the panic start to rise , which it did often, I would go somewhere (bathroom at work, bedroom at home) and do the alternate nostril breathing. It truly helps! It forces your brain to focus.

When I feel the first hints of an oncoming panic attack - usually sudden discomfort, then a fast tingling starts in my back and spreads to my chest, prompting many of symptoms you listed - I give myself one of the routine tasks on my list and my favorite is going to the bathroom, tying my hair up, splashing cold water on my face, then washing, exfoliating, moisturizing my face, basically a full skincare routine. I have lavendar bath salts set out which fill the room with a calming scent as well. As much as I can, I say aloud to myself what I'm doing to keep me on task. This routine isn't a magic cure but it sure helps for many of my attacks.
And in the throws of one that just came on too quickly, I'll splash cold water on my face, then lie down with an ice pack to my face and hold my breath for like 30 seconds. It is hard to do while panicking, but after I come back up, I often feel better mentally. My body goes on with its shaking for several more minutes, but it really helps clear my head of the scary thoughts.

Panic attacks led me to distrust my physiologic responses and the health of my mind and body, especially when they came on at times of calm. The stress from that perpetuates itself. Kati is right; it is important to recognise what is going on and to mindfully react. You will direct yourself back to calm.

Great reminders in managing panic attacks! My client's share with me they are able to see their symptoms early. Often, I ask them to ask themselves the following questions: "Do I need any saving right now? Am I in trouble? What is it that I need right now?" I am often told this is helpful because it gives people a sense of control before anticipating something out of control happens. Love it! You know what you need best! Use what you know :)

During my last panic attack which was years ago, a friend of mine just squeezed my hand really hard and somehow that weathered the worst of the storm. It was the first time that ever happened - and after that I actually didn’t have any panic attacks, mostly due to the fact that my symptoms stemmed from ptsd and once i chose to forgive the people who hurt me (over a long period of time) suddenly all my symptoms were gone and are still gone.

lately I've been having more frequent physical symptoms like asthma attacks and allergic reactions aggravated by stress, minor anxiety attacks as well. I'm able to adress what I'm going through and it won't last long but the thought that I'm going through this despite all the care and attention I direct toward my mental health is so devastating. and the fact that it's been more frequent lately is making it worse.
I've had a lot of childhood drama and truma as an adult and I don't know what exactly is aggravating all of this, but the fact that I started crying once u said that I need to find myself a safe place is so heart breaking , and it really hit me deep that I thought I don't have a safe place, I needed to hug somebody but I didn't felt comfortable to do it even though I have ppl that r very understanding and supportive but I can't reaxh out to them as if something inside me is holding back.
I feel so overwhelmed and I don't know where to start from.

I developed a panic disorder in the second semester of my freshman year of college and it completely ruined my life. The things that got rid of them for me were child’s pose, running, and acupuncture. When you are in child’s pose, make sure your forehead is touching the ground and repeat, “It’s okay, I’m just having a panic attack right now.” Repeating that really just helps me understand that it’s okay, I’m not dying, and it’ll go away after a few minutes. It brings me comfort and clarity about what’s happening. I used to get extremely dizzy so it really helped me not fall into things. Having your forehead on the ground really helps your body realize it isn’t in danger. When I started the acupuncture, the needles literally stopped them as they began to start during the session. It was incredible. I went 5-6 times and they just stopped after. Read reviews before you go because you shouldn’t be getting 34 needles, only like 5 or 6. I still have panic attacks but it happens very rarely. I know it’s extremely scary and it consumes your life. I scavenged TH-cam like you are now, trying to find a solution. I was afraid to go out to eat, couldn’t focus while I was at school, spend time with friends, etc. all because of the fear of having one in public. You’ll find a solution and it’ll be okay down the road. You gotta learn how to not resist them and just let them play out. Once you overcome that fear and work through the cause with someone, it’ll get better. I hope this helps someone. Good luck and I wish you the best. 😊

    • @rosegranger2872

If possible, go to the bathroom as a way to have a few moments for yourself. Maybe wash your hands with hot or cold water, as this is something you probably often have to as a nurse, so others might even not notice. Or keep some hand balm anywhere to calm yourself down. Maybe one with a scent you really like. And if this all doesn't work, maybe you have someone at work you work with often that you can talk with about your anxiety. Maybe this person can keep your back free for a moment so that you can escape the situation. Hope this helps. Sending a big hug your way!

I work in a healthcare setting and I get very overwhelmed as well. I do a lot of supporting seniors with intellectual disabilities in palliative care. it’s a tad intense. Especially during covid. I have a fit bit and it’s super useful for other work stuff but there’s a feature where it has a 2 minute breathing exercise and it buzzes differently when you are meant to inhale then when you exhale. I’ve found it helpful to get a little 2 minute grounding in the midst of chaos. I’ve used that feature so much lately.

Can panic attacks have different versions? I experience panic attacks in the daytime and it is as you described with the DSM-5. However, there is one slight difference with my nighttime panic attacks. The nighttime attacks differ from my temperature sensation and breathing. Instead of feeling extremely hot and bothered, I experience extreme sudden cold and shivers WITH very shallow breathing (instead of hyperventilation) causing my skin to turn blueish-purple when touched. A bit alarming I know. But like a panic attack, it peaks within minutes. My daytime attacks last an average of 3-10 minutes; whereas, my nighttime attacks last between 10-45 minutes. In both, I feel as if I am going to die and feel extremely faint (the night attacks are more intense and actually will cause me to faint). It almost feels like respiratory depression as I've experienced that before. Are these experiences the same as both Panic Attacks, or do they differ enough to represent something else? We have already ruled out other factors from medicine to o-t-c meds to illness both physical and mental. I'm currently on some medications that do work but are not the cause. Your input may help me with these episodes. Also, the attacks of both kinds are increasing in frequencies to where it is interfering greatly with my daily function. I have yet to be diagnosed with panic disorder. Though I feel as I should qualify with the frequencies of my attacks. Therefore, I am not being treated accordingly. Thank You for your time and insight.

I have recently opened up to my therapist about intense trauma and 3 days after I last met with him my brain decided to relive that trauma. Panic attack ensued and when I was able to have a brief break, I searched for distractions and remembered that Disney+ is a thing so I threw on Finding Nemo (a childhood favorite). It took 20-30 mins to fully calm down and I finished that movie. I just started getting panic attacks, dealing with trauma, and getting a therapist so I am slowly building my toolkit.
