People who don't have panic attacks are extremely lucky. I often refer to them as "Terror Attacks" because that's what I feel, pure terror for no good reason. Videos like these help a great deal, because when you describe what it's like to go through a panic attack, we feel like others understand and there is something we can do about it.
When I was kid and I would have panic attacks and anxiety my mom would make me feel like I was crazy and dramatic so now as an adult when I have panic attacks I hate being around others because I have a fear of them judging me in the same way which makes it so much worse. Your video has shown me to remember not everyone is like my mother, thank you for that.
This video described how I feel so well. If you are going through panick attacks, I am so sorry. I wouldn’t wish this upon anyone. My heart goes out to you and I pray we all will get through this!
I'm 17 years old and never had a panic attack, I just had one like 20 mins ago. ALOT HAS happen at my home and I came to Florida for vacation and my auntie adds more to the stress I was already feeling and BOOM I started crying, and breaking down and I couldn't breath and I started freaking out even more because I never done this. Turns out it was a panic attack or an anxiety attack. I'm a strong man but this was pretty scary for me. I cannot believe that I had a anxiety attack and that I'm really looking at this video. I'm mentally strong but for some reason I broke down. But thank you for this video it helped me understand what it is and what to do.
It doesn’t make you weak or less of a man because you are here looking for information. It’s OK to feel the way you did. It’s okay not to be okay. Hang in there. You aren’t alone.
BRAVO !!! 🙌🙌🙌 One of the best, accurate and most helpful videos I have ever seen !!! Great content, amazing channel, huge thanks for doing this and know, your work actually helps people like me (and we are millions) You should have much more subscribers and views. Anyway, thanks and good luck !!! Please, continue doing this ❤️
I am currently going through maybe one of the worst panic cycles I've ever been through, It all started with a bit of a stuffy nose last night and now I keep feeling as though I cant breathe properly. I have some relief for a little bit and then it starts up again.. I've had to call in sick to work today which doesn't help with my Anxiety! This video has help for sure, still have a lingering feeling of anxiety but I'm much more calm. I hope this lasts! Thank you!
I've had spurts where I couldn't do anything but stay at my house and even then, it was horrible! Wouldn't wish these on anyone. Worst part about it is thinking of "when" the next one might happen is what causes the next one to happen.
i am going through a panic/anxiety attack period,i have been under some stress lately and its gone full blown,i had covid a couple of months ago and when i was clear i had a covid jab,i dont know if this is related to my condition or not.i am an active 70 year old male with lots of interests ie;motorcycling ,playing guitar with my band, both of which are on hold at the moment until if feel better, the doctor has put me on 15mg of mirtazapine.the point i want to make is that i find your self help videos to be a great help in getting me through this dark period.i want to thank you for your help and probably the thousands of people you have helped overcome this terrible condition through you videos.
You are right on dude, thats what it is. "Panic " I did your breathing and it helped big time. It started by anexiety and went to panic. Thank you so much.
My 13 and 8 year old kids are very visual learners. This is so powerful for them. We’ve gone to years of CBT for my 13 year old. Talk only was very good but not 100%. This visual representation helped bring everything from Dr. Thomsen home. 😊 Thank you. She still suffers from occasional panic attacks. Which is way down from daily. I hope she will be a visual artist someday.
Thanks for sharing. I sometimes get comments wishing my videos were more suitable for children, so I'm glad to hear that your daughter found it helpful, and I wish her well as she continues to improve.
This came up after searching panic attacks. It has helped me understand the cycle of events leading to a panic attack and trying to reverse or ease it. Being in the height of a panic attack makes me feel totally out of control. I know I should not feel that way, but when it goes too far I don’t listen to myself. This video has made me think to try and divert having a full blown episode. I am feeling calm. I will definitely put what you said into practice. Thank you so much, so clear.
I’m 24. I have panic attacks numerous times a week. I work a software job for a large corporation. These are detrimental to my life. I’m glad I came across this video because feel like I’m going to die and this gave me validation.
Today I went to church and had panic attack. I thought I was going to faint but instead my heart rate increased and I could literally hear my heart beat. I wanted to sit but I would’ve felt embarrassed so I kept on standing and I didn’t pass out. This happens to me almost everytime I go to church, it triggers me because even before going to church before 2-4 hrs I feel anxious thinking of me going to church and I might faint and since all thoughts just jumble up I get a panic attack sometimes before going to church and then when I go to church there I get one more. I try to comfort myself just because I don’t want to feel embarrassed in front of everyone but this the worst feeling cuz you can’t never be normal and go to church. I often look at other people and think they are so lucky to not go through the thing that I am going through. It’s just worst so worst that I want to get out of it but I am trapped by my own thoughts and the place that triggers my panic attack. I don’t want to stop going to church but instead I want to overcome my panic attack and I wanna peacefully go to church and pray instead of feeling anxious all the time. :’(
@@dute3819 It still happens with me but you know I just got a solution to it. Every time you get a panic attack just tell yourself that you’ve got it and if you feel like you’re going to faint it’s just your mind playing with you because you can only faint when your brain doesn’t get enough blood but while you get a panic/anxiety attack your heart beats at high rate there’s no chance you are going to faint also when I am in church I let god protect me I imagine he being there by my side holding me and I won’t faint and it just goes and I get through it but it still feels sad to go through it but instead of being scared we have to find solution for it.
Just so you know, the people you are looking at and thinking they are so lucky they don’t feel this, I bet at least 4 of them are thinking the same thing you are. And I bet they look at you and think she’s lucky she doesn’t deal with anxiety. We feel a mess on the inside but look just fine on the outside
A great way to overcome a panic attack is to re frame the perceived threat from fear into excitement both of these emotions are so similar that the brain is easily fooled into releasing positive hormones that help overcome the panic attack.
i work in warehouse and it was a bit hot last friday and i had those symptoms had to leave because my heart was raising then called out saturday sunday and monday had the issue again before starting work started taking sertraline 25 mg after i left then tuesday it sent me to hospital cuz i was wanting to have the attacks multiple times im on day 6 of sertraline trying my best to hang in there
I had a really bad panic attack this past Sunday while driving to church. It was so scary and I made a couple of not so safe choices while driving. I had my son in the car, I hate that he had to witness that! I eventually pulled over in a parking lot and had to call someone to get us. 😢
I have terrible panic attacks and was recently diagnosed with hypotension. it’s hard for me to distinguish if i’m in actual danger of passing out or i’m just extremely anxious. do you have any tips on how i can learn to separate the two?
I get very dizzy that triggers my panic attacks sometimes daily. Been to several ENT doctors MRI CT scan normal blood work perfect EKG normal x-ray neck ultrasound clean. They can't it out. I'm 60 and all of this happened four years ago
There's not much you can do once you're in the middle of a full blown panic attack. The key is to recognize the early signs that you're starting to feel anxious or panicky and find ways to calm your anxiety before it gets to the point where you lose your mind and can't act anymore.
I have had a bad spell of depression for a month after a loss. It was just depression until recently when I started having panic attacks. The panic rising and feeling out of control, sometimes it lasts hours and im able to calm down. The calm never lasts and the anxiety and panic kept returning and I'm unable to function when this occurs. At night I had what I felt was being completely killed and dying in the panic attack and I can't return to restful sleep. I couldn't get out of bed until the panic is gone and it can take hours. But then I felt peaceful. It only lasts an hour and the anxiety panic loop returns. I don't know what to do. I'm in major crisis and I think I need to go back on medication. Years ago i was on fluoxetine. Haven't been on anything for a year.
How do u stop u mind from just being anxious, as ive had alot of stress lately but kind of keeping it to myself putting a brave face on and i think its stemmed from there, i have had anxiety on and of for years but for the past few weeks ive been feeling anxious alot!!!
The symptoms of a panic attack are all symptoms we can experience due to anxiety. In a panic attack, the symptoms become very intense and escalate into a panic attack. With anxiety we can feel these symptoms 24/7 without them ever becoming so intense that they escalate into a panic attack
Assuming my recent post vaccine tachycardia is just a panic attack they are coming out of nowhere without any anxiety or stress beforehand eg at a grocery store, about to eat a meal. Thankfully your breathing exercise eg. 2 second breath in pause and 4 out have been very helpful to bring my heart rate back down. I use a blood pressure monitor so the instant feedback on heart rate is very helpful. Before the breath exercise I would tend to panic and want to call 911 as symptoms escalate. I also sometimes have nausea beforehand or in general without any increased heart rate. My only guess other than vaccine side effect is that the previous anxiety eventually builds up until it triggers an event even when you’re not stressed. Due to the vaccine I have something to attach the symptoms to which increases fear. However I’m 52 and never had these before I got the 1st Pfizer vaccine but I have been quite anxious about this new type of vaccine.
Attacks "coming out of nowhere without any anxiety or stress beforehand", however it’s widely reported from credible sources that Covid has pervasively elevated stress levels. Perhaps getting vaccinated was a triggering event, but hopefully the knowledge that you are protecting yourself and loved ones will allay some of the anxiety.
I had a drop in blood pressure and increase in heart rate from getting the covid vaccines. They did cause a panic attack for me but I am thankful to have them because I work in a hospital taking care of covid patients. I just got breakthrough covid last week, I was finial feeling better yesterday and overworked myself shoveling snow... I had terrible palpitations and had catastrophic thinking. This video reminded me to just ride out the feeling and not tense up and make it worse. Hope you are doing well
update: after many months of no panic attacks after the vaccine i just had today. again came out if nowhere. this time i couldnt get my heart rate down as wuickly with this breathing exercise and my arms got tingling. there is some stress over some ongoing temple pain for nine months but i dont think the stress was that bad. its been one thing after the other.
Literally went to the ER because I thought I was having a heart attack, it’s been 2 days since and I’m controlling how I breathe and the panic attacks have gotten better but they’re still uncomfortable. Do you know if these panic attacks will go away with time?
One of the reasons we have panic attacks is that when we start to panic we think, oh no I'm having a panic attack, this is going to be terrible, I can't stand it, etc and that makes us feel even more panicky. We start to panic at the thought of how bad a panic attack will be. You mention your panic attacks have already gotten better as you've learned to manage them with your breathing. This makes it more likely you're able to avoid falling into that panic cycle where your thoughts about having a panic attack help fuel the panic attack. The more you're able to tell yourself calming things about the physical symptoms you are experiencing, and the more you're able to tell yourself that you do have the ability to manage panic attacks when they do happen, then the less likely it is that you actually start to panic. And eventually you can stop having panic attacks altogether.
