- 2021 Ferrari Roma real-world review in the UK. It's stunning to look at but is it actually a flawed diamond? It's super quick thanks to the 620ps twin-turbo V8 but there's lots of new tech in this car, which Ferrari has never been fitted to one of their cars before and I'm afraid it might be too much, let's see..

Update: Shields are now available on the Roma (I had read they weren't) and there is another way of adjusting volume, via a rocker switch on the back of the steering wheel.

Trying to negotiate a touch screen, while driving a car this fast and sensitive, just seems insanely dangerous.
In fact I'm surprised these systems are even legal, when texting and driving is illegal in many countries. Pretty much the same thing
I agree. I am a tech fanatic, but I absolutely hate touchscreens in vehicles. Give me a tactile knob or button, or give me voice control. I hate fiddling with a freaking touchscreen when I'm driving.

Completely agree. They also look hideous, especially in the landscape, looking over the top of the dash format.
Because it's a cost cutting measure sold as a premium option. It's much cheaper to fit a screen than to make buttons and switches.
@@djSmokeShow Same I can change buttons without taking my eyes off the road for more than a second as I know where it is and can glance down to instantly place my fingers. I use Waze on my phone on road trips it’s never let me down and has warned of accidents ahead etc. But my golden rule as it sits on my phone in a holder at the window (don’t have Apple play my car just missed out) but our other does and it works off the touch screen brilliant with actual real buttons as well is that once driving I don’t touch Waze until I’m stopped again.

You think that's expensive? That's the cheap metallic paint options. If you want tri layers like Rosso Fuoco, Rosso Maranello, Giallo Tri Strato, etc. you are looking at twice that, and even more for the few four layers they offer such as Nuovo Rosso F1 2007 or Rosso TRS.

Tech is great if implemented correctly, but not many seem to manage that part.

This trend of replacing knobs and switches for a screen is a great way of quickly aging a car's interior after a few years. I hate this design.

Me to. Touchscreens are fine but when driving and you want to adjust the climate control for example, pissing around with the screen isn’t exactly safe when trying to concentrate on the road. Physical buttons stay in one place and you can actually feel them and adjust them without taken your eyes off the road.
All future used cars will look generic on the inside - full of the same - touchscreens

"Too much tech" - the bain of most new cars. Come on, manufacturers, bring back switches, levers, buttons and rotary controllers.
Well sadly, it's much cheaper for them to have infotaiment screen with all the functions rather than milions switches...

The thing is that most buyers buy the car cos its a ferrari, not for an authentic driving experience. Nowadays it only seems lotus and a handful of smaller makes cater to what we want

I have recently travelled for a day in a Ferrari Roma. Extraordinary car.
And all the problems that Harry seem to have encountered years ago with the tech and the controls have been solved.
You can just see Harrys thoughts "Why cant I have this car without all this digital nonsense?"

Harry does like to push on in the wet or winter and fair play he can obviously drive. Some of the cars he takes out in poor weather I’d never hit the loud peddle for fear of including a hedge modification in the design of the Car. 😂

Even Ferrari have fallen victim to the classic Tesla trap of having every single function of the car controlled via a touch screen. It needs to stop. What was wrong with being able to turn off the A/C or adjust the temperature without having to take your eyes off the road?
Plenty of cars available without all the touch screen technology. Nobody is stopping you from buying a classic ferrari
Two points about modern electronics in modern cars.
1. Anybody else think they are a ticking time bomb with regard to safety say 20-30 years from now when they fail without notice or warning.
2. Manufacturers - please do not release cars with input latency/lag for electronic switches. It is simply awful.
Harry adds 50K in options: "That's not too bad..."
only an Alpine A110 worth of options, rather than a 911 4S. Bargain!

A bit bonkers really to add 50k in options. The base 170k doesn’t feel that bad however!
I'd just rather buy a 2019 Golf R MK7.5 with that 50k and get it modified by ABT, SORTED.

This video really pulled me into your channel. Great work! Also, just watched the Super Fast video and it’s amazing to me how much more attractive that car is from almost every aspect. Realize it’s almost 2x cost but NA, and functional interior is massive.

Harry is a farmer and so his thoughts run to the practical uses of a vehicle. For instance, if the son has the Defender out on the back forty and Harry needs some wooden planks right now, well, the Ferrari has a pass through trunk opening and presto, Bob's your uncle.

Not from an infotainment standpoint. I spent three hours with the Roma a few months ago, and it is indeed a technical nightmare. Not only are there the dash and center console mounted touch sensitive buttons that work poorly, there are the touch screens on the wheel. It is horrid. A Tesla is boring and feels cheap, meh, but the infotainment stuff works.
@@AB-80X Yes but the Tesla Model S is old now. The new one about to be released is beautiful and is very very fast. 0 - 60 in under 1.9 seconds! If that doesn't make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up nothing will. LOL!

There's so much more to making a car exciting. I will probably end up with one at some point. But I have spend way too many years on the drag racing for that to be a selling point.
Currently I find the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso to be the most interesting four seater of the bunch. Not the fastest, but it has an X factor the others don't.
On the flip side, I spent about four hours with the Porsche Taycan Turbo S last June and came away massively disappointed, It was fast but the interior was dreadful and you could feel every single one of those 2400 kg. It had that annoying "double bounce" only really heavy cars have. The P100D I think is a better driving car with a better interior than a Taycan. It might not have as prestigious a badge, but it's actually a better car. So, I am looking forward to see what the Model S replacement has to offer.
I test drove a couple Teslas and did not find it exciting at all. If you like Teslas, good for you.

Really don’t like not having a few buttons for simple functions. Much prefer the lighter interior of the first one. Can’t help thinking a Mini would be just as fun.

As for the car, love the exterior styling, agree the interior isn't very timeless or luxurious looking, think that, the tech, and the incessant bonging will age fast! Just based off this also, the engine sounds like a Golf GTI or something 4 cylinder boosted - is that really what it sounds like??

Great video, as always, and one that I've been looking forward to watching; however, I'm not sure you're correct about the shield on the side not being available - I have seen examples with the shield on the side, in both the official video and also in the side-by-side lineup of Roma's shown in this video at the Goodwood track (I think all of them bar the lighter-coloured Roma closest to the camera had the shield)
Great review again Harry, I have the feeling you would arrive exhausted evrytime you drove it. shame they are going down the Merc route of too much tech, when the performance should be the focus.

That touch screen is a right dogs breakfast. Imagine the amount of time diverted from the road on these things, soon to be dead for me.
The "iPad" looks like an old BlackBerry and will date this car very quickly! God, these designers cant seem to get it that people want knobs and gear shifts!

I’m very impressed with your backroads/wet driving. When I took the Roma out, I was shocked at the torque! So easy to get wrong. You have fantastic throttle control! Great video.

The most useful Roma review out there. Although I disagree with you about the shark nose looks and the colour. I think it looks great in the lighter colours because it contrasts well with the grill holes, there is an option to have the grill in black, so would solve that problem. Regarding the interior too, I like the way the interior wraps, and is held together with the generous chrome clips, and I like the selector switch too. I think this will age well, very well. I do agree with you on the display, and I think the gadgetry will probably be better once you are used to the system. I adore this car, great review Harry.
Interesting that it reminded you of the Maserati. From rumours I've heard, this started life as a Maserati. The Alfieri concept if I remember correctly. Still, a nice dream car either way. Great video Harry, many thanks.👍🏼

Great car and excellent review as usual! Yes, I agree -far too much emphasis on "safety" systems these days. Leave the driver to exercise some responsibility! Give us back the volume knob for our radios! Fortunately my XF still has one!
Looking forward to this. Love the styling of this car. Agree iPad in dash should be recessed or something. Volume knob debacle a nightmare, think Honda 2020 Civic type R are the only recent release car company to rectify this issue.
The interior design looks underwhelming for such a special car.

I think it's a big step ahead for Ferrari. I was growing tired of seeing the 458 steering wheel and round vents for every car they produce.
Hundreds of comments from people hating the interior - the like steering wheel but absolutely hate the cheap touchscreens.
