as Chris mentioned, Ford is aiming @ a different segment with the Mach E, newer crowd with very limited knowledge of car history or they don t care about history at all, and the hardcore mustang crowd would likely not be interested in the March E to begin with, so Ford is being pragmatic.

Chris Harris is so much likeable when hes being honest, instead of playing up to freddie and paddy for the top gear show. I think that bbc top gear show has run its course now. Much better on youtube I think
Having own several Astons and several Ferraris, I can tell you that while there may be a similarity in looks, the driving experience associated with pretty much any Ferrari is on a different planet than pretty much any Aston, and that includes the DB11 and new Vantage.
Hey Chris, here's a suggestion: Stick to test driving cars and leave the design to designers, capiche? Don't smear your well-earned reputation by making ignorant comments without understanding the history and lineage of the Ferrari design DNA a la the 250 GT Lusso.
Hmm... personally I consider the new Vantage to be the ugliest Aston in my lifetime, while I consider the Roma to be one of the most beautiful modern coupes I've ever seen. Strange hearing someone say they look identical.
I wouldn't say the Aston is the ugliest car they've made because they just released the dbx and topped the charts. But I will agree with you on the fact that the Ferrari is beautiful. I don't know what Harris is going on about, because this is definitely not an Aston and only a daft idiot who doesn't know his cars would mistake it for one. I'm glad that Ferrari has release so many new models this year and I'm glad that they've taken such a different approach to design on the Roma .
The Roma is an hommage to the old Ferrari's from the late 50s and 60s. And Aston Martins looked like Ferraris back in the days. So you dont really seem to know Ferrari and Aston history well. The Lusso, the GTOs etc..
Watch Frank Stephenson’s video about the Ferrari Roma. He is one of the best car designers in the world. His thoughts about the Roma’s similarities to Aston Martin show a deeper understanding of Ferrari’s heritage than Chris gives credit for.
Because the of the topic....anyone with half a brain can pick up on whats going on. Most of these manufactuers are digging themselves a grave. Times are changing and the way theyre choosing to adapt is wrong.
The first time I saw the Roma, I was immediately reminded of the 612 Scaglietti. Put them side by side and the Roma looks like a modern version of that. While it's definitely there, I didn't see the Aston Martin resemblance until it was pointed out to me. The more I look at the Roma I can see hints of AMG GT in there as well but I think it's a stretch to call it a straight up copy while the 612 exists. Overall, I'd buy this for the little bit of added livability over the F8. This or push for the SF90.
I'm surprised the comparison has never been made to the Aston DB10 that was made for the movie Spectre back in 2015. Looking at it next to the Roma side by side, they look practically identical!
The glasshouse? It's a teardrop shape. It's an aero feature before being a design feature. Yes, the glass ends in a pointy fashion. Wow, is that it? I can agree that it should have been a Maserati. The GT and Alfieri are the cars that actually look like the Roma, in terms of design language.
Chris, you always said you don’t understand much design and aesthetics. Well, this is the case. What matters in car design is not if the side glass is identical, virtually every car makes shares glass houses and windshields. What matters in car design is proportion, and proportions in the Vantage and in the Roma are completely different.
Yep, I feel like I'm in a Twilight Zone episode hearing people say the Roma looks just like an Aston Martin. They even say it has a DB11 grille, but that only makes sense if it was upside down and inside out. Is everyone going blind or something?
Mike W. Dash I think people have an obsessive perception of the finer details, and focus all their attention on those, forgetting to look at a car as a whole. Why? Cause it’s easier to spot similarities rather than differences. These are the people that will look at the car in the flesh for the first time and will say “Actually, this car is much better”, cause only in real life you can see volume and proportion as they really are.
The Ferrari dealers in London, Dubai, Monaco and Los Angeles will not have an issue selling all these Ferraris. The same cannot be said for the rest of the dealers
First glance is all that matters on the road. People won't be standing around soaking it all in as one drives by, they will be going "was that an Aston?".
Robbie Khan incorrect, I loved the new vantage at first glance. But later on I started seeing the Miata headlights and uncouth proportions that it has. Now it’s just plain ugly to me.
I respect that top Gear is doing their own thing now and not trying to be the same as it used to be. More straightforward and "professional" more so than comedy and entertainment, which no one can compete with Hammond Clarkson and may.
When the F12 first came out, I was blown away by how gorgeous it looked. I have never seen a better front engine Ferrari since the 275 GTB/4 and lesser extent, the Daytona. The F12 is a real winner.
Maybe I should be embarrassed for not knowing who this gentleman with Mr Harris is... but I enjoyed his enthusiasm about the Ferrari, in spite of Chris' seemingly jaded perspective on it. The man held onto his celebration of the design and its purpose within the lineup despite our good man giving no quarter. I'm with you mate. I'd happily park one beside my modest base 911 if I could afford it.
Lol, basically if you are gonna produce an "affordable" Luxus GT in the future pay attention: it will look like an Aston Martin! Lol, please stop. Roma looks similar to the Aston or any gt, but so much more beautiful actually. And we can say the same things about so many cars on the market nowadays. Ridiculous
I've never seen the Roma in person, but when you stack the pic beside the Aston they don't look much at all alike. No more than any two modern front engine GTs. I mean, the Roma isn't completely unique, but it certainly isn't a rip off. I actually think it's a proper Ferrari. Again, I've never even seen one though...
Well said Chris, there is definitely more than just a similarity between the Roma and the Aston Martin.I think they just altered the rear profile slightly, taking it from the Porsche.

I don't really care that it looks like an Aston, it's a lovely thing. Cars can look similar but be beautiful in their own right (e.g. Jag XK, DB9).
I think the worse thing is exactly what Chris said. For the same money you could have a slightly-used F12 with 4 years left on warranty.
@@bsnyd10 yes, it's hard to make a case for it there. But that also applies to all the Roma's competitors, too.
Jaguar F-type also exists. Aston Martin doesn't have a monopoly on this style.
Good bloke Chris Harris. That’s my kind of no nonsense car love. He just talks sense.
Ferrari too many models....
McLaren: hold my beer.
5:50 Chris is the definition of a horrible "speculator" haha, dude loves cars too much to care about "investing" in it. Something people should learn from him tbh.
To date he has sold so many cars that skyrocketed after he sold em: GT3RS 4.0, 993 (iirc)...
At first glance, I thought it was an Aston Martin until I read the text ...
I'm buying the Ferrari Roma because I want a 911 and a DBS but I only have enough money for one so I'll get the Roma which looks like both a 911 in the rear and looks like an Aston Martin in the front just the perfect mix Ferrari has done it again with masterpiece of design.
Companies make cars to emulate ferraris. Ferrari should never make a car to emulate anyone
Aston wishes it would build cars this tasteful.
yes, the F12 berlinetta is my favorite
This is all the content we need. Chris talking for minutes/hours about cars. Perfect!
So the Roma is a disgrace, but the Mustang Mach E is completely fine?
Arm Head everyone has an opinion my good friend
as Chris mentioned, Ford is aiming @ a different segment with the Mach E, newer crowd with very limited knowledge of car history or they don t care about history at all, and the hardcore mustang crowd would likely not be interested in the March E to begin with, so Ford is being pragmatic.
Ford is trying to compete with Tesla, Audi, Jaguar... Brands that have the fame on eletrical cars that Ford never had. They use their famous name to get attention. Otherwise, they will never be able to keep up with other brands
@@wilsonjunio1794 The only brand that has had fame with electric cars is Tesla. Everyone else makes them, because they'll be mandated to in order to lower their carbon emissions. Audi, Jag, Toyota et al have made electric cars...good ones...but they're known for other things. Ford isn't exactly going to be left behind. They could have called this car something else. Instead they choose to sully the name because millenials and hipsters won't care.
Because mustang name doesn't mean shit. Every high schooler with a min wage job is beating a v6 to death.
I resonate a lot with Chris on a general basis. Too many others are afraid to be honest about the automotive industry. He and Clarkson are fun to listen to.
This is when I like what Chris has to say. He is on point about modern designs in cars. I hope they keep Him on this show for many, many, many years to come.
chris has obviously forgotten that ferrari has had a long history of building elegant front engined gt cars way before astons cars were even heard of
Just like fiat money....when you make too much (models/quantity) of something, you cheapen the VALUE/uniqueness of it.
Chris is arguably one of the best if not the best car journalists out there.
Hey Chris, here's a suggestion: Stick to test driving cars and leave the design to designers, capiche? Don't smear your well-earned reputation by making ignorant comments without understanding the history and lineage of the Ferrari design DNA a la the 250 GT Lusso.
I get it, it looks like an Aston. So what? A car with the looks of an Aston and the powertrain of a Ferrari, that’s the dream.
Poor Chris is never gonna finish that coffee..
0:57 he makes such a good point 😭 props to the team for not matching the colors in the preview, they STILL look exactly the same 😅
How can you fall in love with a car when there’s another one coming in a minute? Actually, their customers don’t fall in love, they use and dump.
I agree,
falling in love with a car has nothing to do with the number of cars coming out. i like chris but he says a lot of bs too
Love the F12!
The roma reminds me more of the old daytona. Ironically though, Chris Harris likes the f12 which looks EXACTLY like a c7 corvette.
Unbelievable how good the db9's still looks given they've been made so long ago. They never age! A classic in the making?
Chris is a man with genuine passion and knowledge and must be protected at all costs
Hmm... personally I consider the new Vantage to be the ugliest Aston in my lifetime, while I consider the Roma to be one of the most beautiful modern coupes I've ever seen.
The Lusso, the GTOs etc..
th-cam.com/video/_H7Lnj8zhM8/w-d-xo.html
Honest as one can be. F12 is my favourite too...but I can’t afford one 🤗
812 n-largo
best rarri
Watch Frank Stephenson’s video about the Ferrari Roma. He is one of the best car designers in the world. His thoughts about the Roma’s similarities to Aston Martin show a deeper understanding of Ferrari’s heritage than Chris gives credit for.
I think it looks classic Ferrari succesfully modernized
I see what Chris is saying about the F12. Didn't love the styling when it first came out but taking another look at it now, it is just stunning
I can see why people are saying it looks a bit like an Aston Martin
But the Roma is the front engine V12 gran tourer Ferrari is known for like the 612
no, the 812 is
Except it has a V8.
Traditional Astons never looked like the new Vantage, same goes for Roma. It’s design traditions proliferating across brands.
Why is Chris so grumpy
Jet lag. This was filmed just after he got back from a long flight from LA.They really should have done these videos AFTER he got over it.
Fake Richard Hammond interviewing him
Because the of the topic....anyone with half a brain can pick up on whats going on. Most of these manufactuers are digging themselves a grave. Times are changing and the way theyre choosing to adapt is wrong.
he's trying to be Jeremy Clarkson
He mentioned the Scaglietti, my favorite GT Car !!! Yes ! I'm not the only fool who finds this car beautiful and charming 😍
I loved the 599 like no other, so I also have love for it's evolutionary step
Chris wearing a G-Shock square. Cool!
I love Chris Harris’s work but he’s wrong. He’s been around long enough to know better. The Roma has quintessential Ferrari DNA and design elements.
I love the Roma!
The Ferrari dealers in London, Dubai, Monaco and Los Angeles will not have an issue selling all these Ferraris.
The same cannot be said for the rest of the dealers
I love how Chris always looks like he's on the wrong side of a red-eye flight when he does these videos. Go get some sleep bud, we need you. 🤣
Aston Martin: if you're going to copy my homework, change a few things.
Ferrari: Sure!
It only looks like an Aston at first glance. When you look at the proportions and details , everything there is all Ferrari.
@AM G show me an Aston that has similar rear end or front grill
Wow, "The backline of the door," IDENTICAL.
Aston got away from elegant aston martin styling, so ferrari is now filling that gap. Good job ferrari, stunning car
I respect that top Gear is doing their own thing now and not trying to be the same as it used to be. More straightforward and "professional" more so than comedy and entertainment, which no one can compete with Hammond Clarkson and may.
I disagree with almost everything Chris just said, except for the part about the F12.
Chris Harris is such a gem.. it's good that he has grown Into this.. topgear might have a chance to survive with him around
Ah, the "Never should have sold it." Yep, been there, done that.
You haven’t got a clue fellaz Roma is absolutely the right move for ferrari. Go and drive snd own one then make comparisons to Aston
mesud sali further more, have you seen the interior of the aston? For that reason alone I would buy a Ferrari.
I agree with everything except that the 612 aged well what was ugly then still is now
100% agree. The back of the 612 look like a dead whale
When the F12 first came out, I was blown away by how gorgeous it looked. I have never seen a better front engine Ferrari since the 275 GTB/4 and lesser extent, the Daytona. The F12 is a real winner.
2:10 thank you Chris Harris!
Roma is amazing. I like this guy but he is wrong
Best Chris Harris I’ve seen on the telly, agree with everything he said here.
3yrs is not old!!! TRUE!!
Sad that it's not in red
The BBC should have this Chris Harris on top gear, he knows his onions.
Ridiculous
I love how Chris just says it how it is
When ford made the Aston Martin taurus no one batted an eye
Manolo Corsetti - because at the time, Ford owned Aston Martin. And, there is no way anyone would cross shop a Taurus and an Aston Martin DB9.
The irony is the F12 has the same window line and looks more like the Aston than the Roma.
No we don’t need to celebrate the Roma.
Thank you Chris.
I like that they went with something less aggressive but they didn't quite pull off the balance.
*1:01** Front Light looks LIKE from a Supra*
Well said Chris, there is definitely more than just a similarity between the Roma and the Aston Martin.I think they just altered the rear profile slightly, taking it from the Porsche.
>everyone ignoring that the Jaguar F-type exists and that Aston doesn't own this look.
Aston martin
