Super Mario Sunshine is one of the most creative and unique Mario games ever made, and is personally one of my favorites. I've always been fascinated by the game's art style and character designs, which makes the merchandise made for the game just as fascinating to me! Thankfully, there is plenty of it to go around, so today we're taking a look at every plush released for the game!
This video goes over the set made by Sanei, the one by SEGA Prize, the one by Nippon Auto, and finally the Nintendo Power-released plush by BD&A!

I bought two of them at a flea market, not knowing they were bootlegs, a couple of years ago while on vacation. They were small and I think they were supposed to be keychains.

This video didn’t make me think about these sunshine plushes, but only made me think about the lack of Toadsworth appearances, he hasn’t even appeared on the Wii U or Switch outside of a trophy and spirit

@matt fahringer He is, but I don’t recall a Mario & Luigi being on the Wii U or Switch, and as for the 3DS he hasn’t been in a new Mario & Luigi since 2013 unless you count the remakes or Superstar Saga and Bowsers inside story

PatMac you are genuinely my favorite youtuber. All of your content no matter the topic is always extremely detailed and well made and very entertaining and I just want to thank you for all of the hours of entertainment you’ve provided so far.
I picked up the Sega Mario plush some years back! The M has some red specks on it, but it's in otherwise good condition! I'm thinking about selling off all my old Mario plushes. I got those old Banpresto (I think) Mario Christmas plushes, and a Mario Party 5 Luigi. But the MP5 Luigi is in ROUGH shape. So I'll pretty keep it

I like how Mario's ears look on the Nippon Auto Toy plush with how they're folded to look more realistic. You don't usually get much detail like that with the ears when it comes to Mario Bros. plush.

Thank heavens, someone else who loves Super Mario Sunshine! It's my all-time favourite Mario platformer and I have very fond memories of it. Great theme, lots of interesting platforming, plenty of characters to interact with and get to know, a feeling of doing more than just saving Peach: there's many reasons why I love this game so much, more so than Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy. (Controversial I know, but to me, Sunshine expanded on 64's exploration and while the Galaxy games were great, they did not have the same open-world feeling as Sunshine and I missed having characters to interact with on multiple occasions.)
You finally made this video! The super Mario toad plush blue version ( Sanei one from 2010) looks like an evolution of the sunshine toad plush. (The SEGAprize plush)
Everytime you take a photo of one of your plushes on top of other plushes I imagine that you just have a mountain of plushes in your house. Literally.

This is awesome! Mario Sunshine is pretty underrated IMO, and I never knew about many of these plushes! I only really knew of the BD&A one. Speaking of, I'd like to see a "Look Back at BD&A Nintendo Plushes" video.
If you want a little bit of info to hold you over in the mean time, here's some!
Wing Cap Mario, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Toad, Wario, and Yoshi (orange boots) are the most common. They had the largest manufacturing and were widely available from retailers in the US in 1997. Mario, Yoshi, and Donkey Kong all have giant versions that talk and all plushes have small keychain variants!
Banjo-Kazooie and Mumbo aren't nearly as rare as people think, going by the sheer number of over priced listings on ebay. They are more uncommon than the previous mentioned plushes though. They came out in 1998 and had a smaller manufacturing then the previous group.
There is also a series of different colored Yoshi's. They were Red, Blue, and Yellow. If you ordered them from the Nintendo Power Super Power Supplies catalog they were smaller in size. There is also anoyher green Yoshi, but with red boots instead of orange. I'm still unsure what the difference was in obtaining these. My guess is one from Nintendo Power and one from retail stores.
There are also incredibly rare Black and White Yoshis. They were ONLY available from the Nintendo Power Super Power Supplies catalog, but with a catch. You had to preorder Yoshi's Story for the N64 and mail in your proof of purchase and would only receive ONE of the two plushes (your choice of color). These are by far the rarest plushes made by BD&A. They also had different paper tags that gave you hints on how to unlock their respective colors in game.
BD&A later made revisions to the Mario and Yoshi plushes under another devision of their company.
You can tell if a plush is from the first print run because the tush tag will only say BD&A with nothing else underneath it.

Finally! Someone who wholeheartedly loves Super Mario Sunshine too :) I have nothing but fond memories of that game as it marked a big milestone for me. Not to mention I simply adore these plushes; they're full of charm just like the game. I have the magnet Mario and the BD&A Mario which are some of my favorites ^_^

Ocarina of Time, Kirby 64 the Crystal Shards, and Banjo Kazooie all have really interesting UFO catcher plush sets by Takara! Would love to hear you talk about those :)

I remember buying a BD&A Sunshine Mario around either the time of this video or a couple years before and getting him relatively cheap, just checked the price of him and one recently sold for $250… Plush Inflation is real.

I was actually able to get a sanei Mario sunshine yoshi along side some of the play-by-play nintendo plushies! And this plush is really nice, definetly a plush worthy to be in my collection, and it doesn’t have the tag on it BUT it does have a touch tag with the same logo.

Edit: Also, I'm pretty sure that the Sanei Super Mario plushes are sadly at or nearing the end of production, now that the All Star Collection pretty much dominates the shelves nowadays. It would be awesome if you made a HUGE video (Even an hour would be rushing through it) called: "A look back at the Sanei Super Mario plushes!"
