- When you buy plushes, chances are you buy them in stores. However, there is another very popular market for them outside of that, that being plushes at amusement parks! Mario has had its fair share of arcade/carnival plush lines, but one stands above the rest, that being the Kellytoy Mario (or should I say Nintendo) plush set!
In this video, I not only review all of the plushes, but I also delve into many oddities surrounding the set such as its unusual popularity, the potential of cancelled plushes, and why so many people have such a connection with this strange set.

im literally holding my childhood luigi plushie right now. me and my brother got the whole set for our birthday when we were little. at the moment, mario is missing his overalls, donkey kong, is missing half an eye, we, uh, tried to brush wario’s teeth, and luigi has a very very old neckbrace made of yarn (he literally had no stuffing in his neck from the begining.) i had no idea these were arcade plushies and honestly its really cool seeing the history of something so dear to me.

I remember my brother getting this 12 or so inch Kellytoy Mario either for his birthday or at a carnival, and years later, giving it to me.
It still sits in my room, and I got him out just for this video.

The Luigi is based more on his Mario Party N64 look, the N64 renders were used on merch and marketing well into the NGC era. It's not so bad compared to the render used on the tag.
I think the biggest issue with Wario is his eyes are often way to low, but honestly IMO DK is the worst looking one of the set, when compared to the N64 renders.

You know, i think you should make a video on the worst looking plushes you've ever seen, stuff like bizarre and chaos quality control issues, extremely bad proportions, the worst details, and infamous plushes, like one of those Mario Plushes from, like, the 80's or something. It may be interesting.

I really enjoy how you go over entire brands of plush or figure lines. I remember seeing those Mario's years ago when I was a child and there certainly is a nostalgic charm to them.. perhaps I'll pick one up just for the memories. I'd love to see you do a video on something like the Toy Network Sonic plushes, as I imagine they are as goofy looking and not rare as these kellytoy Mario plushes. In fact.. I may do that 😂 anyways, fantastic video- I always learn so much from them!
I'll definitely do Toy Network stuff eventually, they're similar to these as again I have no memories with them, but I like how some of them look. It'd be interesting getting into stuff like the holiday plushes or the Rouge that is very rare.
Oh my gosh, I have that Kellytoy Luigi. I won it at universal studios (I think). I would say I wish I had kept it in more mint condition but I loved that Luigi and played the hell out of it. I can't get rid of it for any money.

Holy Shit! After looking through this video I found out I had the 9in Black-eyed Mario from the KellyToy line this whole time! I honestly didn't even remember I had one but seeing the image made me get so much nostalgia I checked my plushies and sure enough there he was!! I guess I loved that Mario too much and never had the heart to give it away XD
Interesting thing about my version of the plush is that the hair is much darker then any of the photos of Mario you showed in this video.

Yo, you nailed it with the "sentimental value" aspect. I actually got the Mario when I was around 8 years old and was, believe it or not, a part of what inspired me to go into video production. Seeing this video put a huge smile on my face. Keep up the great content!
Does anyone else remember those old TH-cam videos from 2007 that had these plushes go on adventures in some kids’ house?
I know there was the Cute Mario Bros., but there were other videos with a similar concept that had these plushes.
I went back to the one about mario and luigi going to the park a while back and it had fairly recent nostalgia comments with likes in the thousands so yeah, a lot of people do.
Not related to your comments but it's really ashamed they got turned into a way to make money with super mario Logan, the vids were never high quality or anything, it really was just a bunch of kids having fun, but they were charming in their own way, only to get corporatized by one channel 🦐 like most things yt :v

I actually have these Mario and Luigi plushes.
I bought them in a Video Game store here in Brazil way back in 2006 or 2007.
However, I don't have the Nintendo paper tags anymore. I was a child so I ripped them off to play with the plushes.
Obviously I wouldn't do that nowadays. The Mario plush is the small one while Luigi is the medium-sized one.
They were the only ones in the store, if I could choose, I would get them both in the same size.
My Mario is in a (almost) perfect state, but Luigi's eyes are cracking and are a little... rotten? I don't know, but they've got a little red with time.
Looking back, yeah, they're off-model and badly made. But I still find they really cute and charming. Maybe it's just my nostalgia.

I actually own that Donkey Kong. I can vouch that his tie is indeed sewn to him, but only by the knot in the front. Those without ties have been either cut or ripped off.
As for my love of him, I remember I found him at the thrift store right as I was getting into the series. My favourite at the time was the original Donkey Kong Country on SNES, and I loved how he captured the look perfectly. I'd even go as far as saying I think he looks better than all of the other DK plushes currently available, simply because of his upright position and his textured fur.

Your video got me really curious so I went through my old things and VOILA! I have all four of them! They really take me back to when I was a kid.
Dude, I have the Luigi one, and no joke, I think I probably have the best, most accurate looking one based of the ones I saw in the video. (Or as I like to call it, the "Goldilocks Luigi"). He has a pretty good head and a really nice body compared to the other ones. Its only flaws is that the right side burn kinda sticks off of his face, and his left eye is slightly higher than his right. Other than that, its pretty much perfect, if you would like, I could show you some pictures of the plush itself.

What a perfect video. I’m left feeling full of hope and happiness and I’m not sure why! Maybe it was the Mario 64 credits music at the end, but wow, what a speech. I love that you found a conclusion to why people love these. It was really sweet the way you spoke about these at first ugly toys. Also, yeah, I have nostalgia for that Luigi from the TH-cam series you referenced to; the channel is called SuperMarioLogan. The series was “Mario and Luigi’s Stupid and Dumb Adventures.” Trust me, the quality increases over time with the videos. They will always have a special place in my heart. Again, amazing video. I remember getting these as a kid and losing my mind, because I'd never seen Mario plushes before.
I'm from Italy and I've never thought that mario and co looked particularly Italian. Until I saw that specific Wario plushie in this video. That's an Italian man right there. I feel like I've seen people that look like him, I feel like I've met that person. Doesn't look like Wario, though.

I had a pretty big size of this entire set back in 2010-ish. It’s probably thrown away or in a small box somewhere. I didn’t even spend more than $1 on that.
You're right about having old stock for a long time at amusement parks, I still see mid 2000's - 2010 Sonic plush at a yearly carnival here.
I’d greatly enjoy a video like this for GoodStuff lines of plushes. I’m not sure how many franchises they have, but their five nights at freddy’s sets put in Walmart claw machines truly are so bad they’re great
I'm pretty late to this comment but I gotta say that the GoodStuff Ennard is probably the better Ennard plush compared to Funko's Ennard. The body might have printed material so it's not that soft but the overall shape of the plush is much better imo

Tiny story: where I live there is a big fair every summer and at that fair is a lot of plushes. But there is a very popular plush a lot of people like: THE DRAGONS. And cool thing is their eyes are usually always at the right place. AND there is lots of colours of them, which makes them fun to Try to get all of them. At least they aren’t as low quality as these...

While on the road today I saw a Kellytoy Mario (tagged, even!) Sitting on the dash of someone's car. Thought of you immediately! I love these videos, I never thought I'd be interested in things like this but you pulled me right in

Watching this video made feel kinda of happy and also furious, here in México (At least to al the carnivals I have go) a lot of the plushes aren't official things (Wheter they can be bought in stores or are exclusives) they are just bootlegs things, and a lot of times they aren't even from licenses, they are just animals or some random things, and with the claw machines happens the same, and because of that I didn't play the games that have prizes like that.
But the happiness comed to me when you said that thing about the nostalgia, because I just can't imagine how plushes that are like that can give such beatifuls emotions to the people.

i also feel what made people love these so much was that mario merch was barely around at the time compared to today, so finding these plushies back then i bet were like striking gold.
I remember the big Donkey Kong plush very well, my brother had it and I had a newer Diddy Kong plush so I would always play with them. I think we had a big mario too.
Patmac you're right about just waiting because I remember one day I found a I think 28 inch Mario and only for $18! While the other 28 inch mario plushes were around 40-66 dollars, for people reading this and that want a cheap Kelly toy plush, just wait and maybe one day and as cleshay as this sounds you will get it
I actually really like this plush set. They look classic and I love it for some reason. I also like that the hair color on mario and luigi are lighter as well.
Kellytoy are most known for their popular Squishmallow series of plushies these days. They even recently made another Sonic plush set and a set of Pokemon plushies as a part of that line.
I remember getting my first 9 inch black-eyed kellytoy Mario for $11 on eBay, I just died. I loved it.

Cool, I love how they made 4 of the 6-8 characters from both the first 4 Mario Parties, and Mario Parties, and Mario Kart 64! These designs don't look as good as the Sanei plushes do, but at least they do look kind of decent and it's still good that they managed to make their own plushes for sure.
This, along with the two previous videos between May 31st and July 21st, 2017, started to become what we all know Patmac's narration voiceover as he currently uses to this very day. No longer the monotone version back in 2016, these three videos I mention were the first ones where the voice started to become more confident.
As for the plush, I know this is 5 years old but I still watch this videos almost every week because of how much I love the narrator.
I have a lot of nostalgia for these plushies. My first ever Mario-related plush was the Kellytoy DK that I received as a Christmas gift over 15 years ago. I also remember winning the Kellytoy Mario from a claw machine not long after, and my parents bought the Luigi and Wario from GameStop.

11:05 similar looking packaging was also used by au'some candies for their line of candy stuff, not exactly the same but it has the Nintendo logo, red BG, N64 renders of Mario and DK, Yoshi (from Yoshi Story) and Link (From Majora's Mask) and had power stars everywhere.

It’s been 4 years since the legendary PatMac made this video, I can’t believe it’s been almost 20 years since the Nintendo or in this case Mario plushies were made by Kellytoys. And yes Luigi is odd compered to the other 3 plushies, but that’s what makes it special.

I can't remember how much money I spent, but I wouldn't rest until I finally got it. Unfortunately, I don't know where it is now, as it might be either ripped apart, or lost. (sigh...) Aw well...

Honestly that Luigi plush looks alright. A little off yeah but compared to Wario and donkey kong it definitely looks more normal. I think it fits with Luigi's tall lanky features.

I remember as a kid. I had a Goldie Mario and Luigi. I still have them. They were my first Mario plushies. Besides my Mario kart toy when I was a toddler.
I own the mario and one thing to mention is that the suspenders are more easy to come off than anything else on the plush so be extremely careful with them

the kellytoy mario line was the first one i ever finished i have the full set still today and mario and luigi were my first plushies from that set, to me none of them are rare but they have alot of charm which makes them special heck i had alot of fun with them despiting the fact they were odd looking in fact... mario and luigi look pretty similar to their hotel mario counterparts

My neighbor had that wario and he would subject it to obscene torture. Strapping it to rc cars, weighing it down and throwing it in the pool, riding over it with his bike. And much more.
Something I have noticed about the kellytoy mario's rarity is that the black eyed is a lot more difficult to actually find, but it is also the cheapest. However, only the opposite can be said about the later release for the Mario plush.

I saw a Kellytoy Mario for the first time in person at a store in a mall that sells hard to find stuff. It was in the display window. There was even a N64! (Specifically a translucent green system)
I used to have a DK plushie when I was a kid. I gave it to my little brother when he was like, 6-7 years old. Apparently, he's kept it in great condition, it still looks the same as it did when I gave it to him.
