Thought Diffusion:
Concept: Observing and detaching from thoughts rather than getting caught up in their content.
Application: Differentiating between thoughts and actions, particularly in areas like weight loss and business.
Example: Choosing not to eat despite feeling hungry or wanting to eat, and facing situations where tempting food is present.
Technique: Visualizing thoughts as fish in a pond, identifying the unproductive ones, and discarding them.
Emphasis: Separating oneself from thoughts and emotions, using language to gain control over them.
Self as Context:
Concept: Avoiding over-attachment to self-created identities and stories.
Application: Acting contrary to one’s usual self-perceptions in various situations.
Example: Acting unanxious despite feeling anxious, breaking the identity of being an anxious person.
Emphasis: Realizing that thoughts and emotions are separate from the self, allowing for action despite discomfort.
Acceptance:
Concept: Developing a new relationship with thoughts and emotions, accepting them rather than rejecting or avoiding.
Application: Embracing discomfort and anxiety as part of experience.
Example: Dealing with anxiety attacks by accepting and staying in the situation, rather than fleeing.
Emphasis: Accepting negative emotions can often help dissipate them, likened to escaping quicksand by staying still.
Presence:
Concept: Staying in the present moment, avoiding dwelling on past or future.
Application: Using activities like walking or meditation to observe surroundings and thoughts.
Example: Changing routines regularly to avoid becoming overly reliant on them for stress management.
Emphasis: Being present allows for observation rather than getting engulfed by thoughts.
Values:
Concept: Defining personal values to guide decisions and actions.
Application: Identifying values from admired individuals or personal qualities.
Example: Narrowing down to three key values for easier daily application.
Emphasis: Values act as filters for making decisions aligned with personal goals and desires.
Committed Action:
Concept: Taking actions that align with personal values, not out of fear or avoidance.
Application: Incorporating new habits into existing routines, substituting behaviors, and planning for imperfections.
Example: Linking a new habit (like taking vitamins) with an established routine (like brushing teeth).
Emphasis: Acknowledging that change is a process, and not expecting perfection. Action is essential for learning and progress.

"You don't have to get rid of your emotions to live in accordance with your values." Probably the best explanation of "you are not your emotions" I have heard. Pearls of wisdom jam-packed into 25 minutes or so.
My brain has been binge-eating Alex's podcast, and I was like "Alex is a genius! Alex is a genius!" then I listened to Alex and Leila on the Bigger Pockets podcast and was like "Leila is a genius! Leila is a genius!" Leila and Alex produce insane quality *and* insane quantity - hard work pays off. Thank you Leila!

I like the fish in the pond, and it reminds me of some basic mindfulness and meditiation techniques. Being the observer, realizing that you are not your thoughts or emotions, and choosing to just let thoughts go by like cars passing on a road rather than reacting. I don't know if the idea here came from meditation or mindfulness practice, but it's powerful.
