We have a weird order at my Shotokan club. We have white, orange, red, yellow then it’s straight forward from there (green, purple, purple-white, 3 brown ranks, 1st Dan). Never really understood (or asked) the reasons behind it.
@@karmelacassandra3120there is now, but never used to be. At 9th kyu all we had was a red tag, two tags for 8th kyu, then 7th kyu a yellow belt. Now here in the UK they get a red belt for first grading. I don't agree with it personally

There is red belt, it's after white and before orange.
Eric R theres no red belt in Shotokan Karate, it goes white yellow green blue purple brown (3 ranks) proceeding to black
