It doesnt mean exercise and practicing is bad, just dont over do things and keep a good eye on your body.
That's a good point. We are told to keep our arms and legs relaxed when doing kicks and strikes, in order to avoid this very possibility. Best answer! I agree! I hate when there are people commenting that this isn't martial art even though this is. Usami was awesome btw! She performed beautifully and elegantly
From what I've learn in martial arts speed is everything. Size doesn't mean everything. In judo I had to throw big guys that were 200 pounds heavier than me. I can't answer for her but it's not everyday you fight against a body builder. Body building is a whole different thing like strength and power which is awesome. Use body building and martial arts together then that person would be a beast
Indeed, performing a kata is not like performing a breakdance move. It's a form of meditation. They don't need applauses or clappings during the session, those would rather distract them if they may. And It's pretty annoying for those who truly want to enjoy her moves.
I am a Kunf Fu guy. But The Holy Fuck, if any one hits me with any move of that woman, there I will lay forever... on the grass. That thing is how a Martial Art has to be done.

I can watch this kata again and again my whole life, and always learn something new from it. She is magnificent and really very sharp. God bless her my heart wishes best for her.!!!
This was emotional. Very very emotional. She did a master piece. The last time I did kata on a tournament is 20 years ago. She easily beats the men world class.
OMG, that's the best kata demonstration I have ever seen. Congratulations Usami-san for representing your art with such skill and passion. Very impressive.
So much admiration and respect for those who devote their lives to learning and mastering their craft, especially those who study martial arts and excel in them ultimately bringing such magnificent displays of their talent and respect. The most remarkable moment was how she maintained her composure and reserve as she did the kata and then upon winning, she becomes very emotional and cries. That was a very beautiful moment.
I wish the fans can wait until the end to cheer, instead of think it's a hockey game with beer and 50/50 tickets. Watch the same fans cheer it up at a ballet or opera in mid performance.
We do. In America, where people go to opera because they think it's a "Classy" thing to do, everyone sits rigid and is afraid to be out of line. Where people go to opera who know every line and note beforehand, like the audience here knows the kata, we often react to both good and bad performances.
Perhaps this is why karate belongs in the dojo and not on a stage. She at once inspires new participants but the venues always seem to lower the standard of respectful viewing.
For anyone who doesn't quite understand what they are looking at. That was perfect by the standards of her art. Kata will not win a fight, they are more of an expression and an exercise , but still require alot of focus and technique . that was very impressive what she did.
Everyone keeps talking about her eyes, face, expression, etc. Zanshin aside I'm more impressed by her movement. You can fake a glare, you can't fake skill.
I've noticed competitors actually training for such noise. The instructor/trainer will have the rest of the dojo make a lot of noise and talk while the person/team runs through the kata. It's inconvenient, but it happens, so they prepare for it. That's what karate is all about. Adapt and overcome, as my Sensei says.
If you can be distracted from your kata by something as simple and expected as applause, you are not ready and the kata is not doing you all the good it should be.
You can tell she's graceful with her movements even on simple ones like the one from 00:49 that timing is insane she has Ease In and Ease Out embedded on her LMAO
I'm very impressed. Look at the snap in the motion. The speed and the accuracy of movement. And the look on her face. Serious intent. That comes from passion, hard work, and dedication.
The strength, flexibility, time, energy, personal sacrifice, pain, dedication and love that this woman spent to get to this level....
The precision of the execution was phenomenal, I suppose, as it should be at this level. What got to me (having two boys who are now mid-high belts), was the adherence to protocol on the dojo and then the overt flood and demonstration of emotions (after a win or loss) at the end. I guess I still see my kids during (kata/kumite) tournaments, ecstatic or heartbroken. It's hard to overestimate just how hard these guys train and what it means to them, like any elite sport, I guess.
All martial artists should watch clips like this. In watching form at this level you can see so much beyond the average performance. Every move is perfect and focused. The entire Kata tells a story of a fight and shows her strength, skill, and conviction of spirit. And all this without any of the tricking and XMA stunts that pop up too often here in the USA.
For those that are saying the clapping is annoying. I have competed semi pro for years at martial tourneys, sometimes it is not your ring people are screaming and clapping about. You can't tell. Secondly, if you are competing at this level of skill, the second she goes to that place, you don't hear anything, nor are you thinking about anything other than being in the moment w/ every move. Something Rika has done overall for the karate world is to show power and speed in balanced movement without even a waiver. So effortlessly done she makes it look easy, almost as if anyone can do it. Then when you actually trying you find out it's not even 1/10th her level. Try to explode like that through 3-4 counters and strikes without breaking composure. It is harder than may think. If you try to hold the structure too hard, strike feel weak and ineffective. Try to strike too hard and you'll be unable to hold structure and balance.
Lan Tran that’s not the point. Yes, in tournaments there are often other rings with other things, but this was the finals. The competition aspect of kata and Karate in general is problematic, but we’ll accept it because it is what it is, but the cheering throughout is misplaced. For 20 years now I’ve lived in Japan and never heard cheering like this, so some of us are going to remark on this odd behavior. Trophy hunting is just odd but if that makes you happy or motivates you, you’re entitled to it. I won’t say you’re not.
I remembered back when I used to trained karate in my country, I loved this kata. My fellow teammates and even my sensei were proud of me for how perfect and technical my moves were, but watching this video made me realize that I would have been put to shame if competing again this woman. Rika Usami I bow to you.

Hello ! Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist's » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. Thank you.
Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to God the One and Only one, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them).
Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI))
Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy.
Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.
Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI)
Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad).
Salam (Peace).

I wish the fans can wait until the end to cheer, instead of think it's a hockey game with beer and 50/50 tickets. Watch the same fans cheer it up at a ballet or opera in mid performance.
I guess that´s a WKF-thing...
We do. In America, where people go to opera because they think it's a "Classy" thing to do, everyone sits rigid and is afraid to be out of line. Where people go to opera who know every line and note beforehand, like the audience here knows the kata, we often react to both good and bad performances.
You must not go to many operas or ballets, because people do cheer when the performance is good.
Perhaps this is why karate belongs in the dojo and not on a stage. She at once inspires new participants but the venues always seem to lower the standard of respectful viewing.
She had perfect center and balance. That is the point of kata. Not screaming and doing flips. Excellent!

If you can be distracted from your kata by something as simple and expected as applause, you are not ready and the kata is not doing you all the good it should be.

you are the goofiest muppet ever, mate. I'll have to administer your incel medicine asap.
Rika Usami performance in 2012 is legendary. She was competing in Paris, in the final against french player, Sandy Scordo - and yet ge received standing applause from the french audience. That's how good she was. Truly epic.
You can tell the amount of practice this woman has put into her craft and it’s sharpe, focuses and powerful she has shown the true mean of martial arts
You don't know the true "mean" of martial arts.
Learning Karate was one of the best things I ever did. Martial Arts taught by a real Sensei will give you a lot of discipline in life.
I concur.
I'm new to karate can yoy tell me which kata she's doing?
@@vascotabascoeli I started when I was 6 and stopped when I was 12 (brown belt 2nd kyu). My style was Goju Kai. Now I am 30 years old and can't even remember the names of the Katas that I learned. I regret stopping at a young age.
@@pollux901 what does goju kai mean?and does karate have different type?😅 I didn't know karate also have types please can you tell me more about this
@@vascotabascoeli Just search in internet, you'll find every details about it brother.
Her speed, strength and precision makes this martial artist the bomb!
I come back to this video once in awhile to remind myself that a female can do this! I don’t feel worthless after seeing this again. I know my mind and body can be strong and powerful. Makes me emotional.
As a Taekwondo atlet I know nothing about karate, but this is just so... beautiful. I'm a national poomsae subchampion, something kinda similar to a kata, and her performance is amazing, such a powerful look on her face, every move strong, fast and perfect. I'm shocked, it's incredible.
lightning speed yet fluid like water. i love the commitment, the concentration, the fire in her eyes! wow karate at its finest! she should be an actress you know!
She seems strong.
shut up
Kyla Kurapica folks like that probably a stunt double . It's hard enough for a woman to break into acting .shell do fine where she is with sponsorship
Her hands were moving so fast I could barely follow them
No kidding, the beginning part was lightning fast, I had to rewind and watch that part twice , just to see what see actually did. AND............... she pretty damn cute too... :)
There's a video or two of her explaining this kata in a seminar, and... even when she slows it down, it's still blindingly fast.
***** Yep :)
Michael Kelly her left hand is Flash, right hand Quicksilver
She would have your wallet out of your trousers; drinks paid for; and wallet replaced without you noticing. A fine filly.
I first came across this video 7 years ago when I first joined Karate. I liked this video very much back then and even though I quit Karate 5 years ago I still come back to this video every once in a while. It's safe to say this is my favourite Kata performance to this day.
This is what it feels like to watch a master of the craft at the peak of her powers
about once a year I come back to this video, and it gives me motivation to face life head-on even when times are hard. I tear up every time, those last shots where she's looking straight ahead at the end just cut straight to my soul. one of the most incredible things I've ever seen
Yup same as :)

Truly beautiful rendition of a kata, her kime was evident through the noise (applause) from the audience. I wish people knew when to clap and when to simply enjoy a great kata. Beautiful!
Meh
I won’t say you’re not.
japankev you pretty much just did lol
Too long sentences, delete.
Thanks alot for ppinting out how hard this is. It actuzlly looks easy
Absolutely agree with you...when you are doing Kata nothing else exists but your form and timing ...you are totally focused
宇佐美里香さんの形の演舞は、もう芸術ですね👍️線がシャープで綺麗です。👍️
I remembered back when I used to trained karate in my country, I loved this kata. My fellow teammates and even my sensei were proud of me for how perfect and technical my moves were, but watching this video made me realize that I would have been put to shame if competing again this woman. Rika Usami I bow to you.
