    Hey Joe! We leap-frogged a few times just past Wellington Lake, the bike shop in Leadville and chatted at the BV City Market. Glad to hear you completed your trip successfully! I was reminiscing about my CT trip and checking out some videos and was pleasantly surprised to come across yours! Very well done! Take care.

      Yes! Great meeting you out on the trail Jon! I remember you perhaps were meeting your family near Salida? Hope to see you out and about this coming summer!

      Yep, had a nice, comfy night in the hotel with my family…followed by a scary night up at the top of Green’s Creek in an electrical storm the next day! We definitely got plenty of crazy weather but I guess it’s all part of the CT experience, right!? Cheers to a great adventure!

      @@racer_chef I was initially thinking I would give the CO trail a shot this year, but I decided that I am going to go Oregon Timber Trail this year! Hopefully CO trail is 2025!

    Great Video! I’m planning on doing the CT next summer- can I ask when was your start day?

    • @JoeDeF
      @JoeDeF  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I started July 17, trying to strike that right balance between snow being melted and pre-wildfire season (which fortunately didn’t happen this past summer in CO). Keep an eye on snowpack heading into late spring, consider what that’ll mean for trail passage and potential wildfire, and consider adjusting your departure date accordingly

    So cool to "take the trip" with you this way Joe! I'm pretty sure it's the only way I'll ever see it - so thanks! Proud of you for doing this!

    What would you do differently ? I am doing the CT in August would love to know. I had to abandon last year due to a very unlucky crash. I stopped in Breck. Plan to do it from the start with less weight on the bike for sure and plan to send 2 care packages to certain locations to help. Any thoughts from you would be great.

    • @JoeDeF
      @JoeDeF  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rad! Couple recommendations: Would be nice to have someone meet you near Lake City, where the CT intersects hwy 149 - you're coming off the most remote part of the trail at this point, and it's great to have some resupply to hold you over for the next day until you get to Silverton. I also would not recommend wearing a backpack and if necessary transferring any weight you would have put on your back...right back onto your bike (no matter how light...this really gave me trouble the first 4 days and had to ditch my pack). Good luck!

      Excellent thank you so much I have a friend that lives in Durango and I’ll ask him to meet me where you said and I definitely will not be wearing a backpack I bought a frame bag to help center the weight

    Top notch presentation, super clear audio. Maybe your 2 plus inches of rubber saved you from being zapped.

    So awesome! I attempted it the opposite way about 3 years ago but was actually just training for the grand traverse race. I make it to Gunnison. I hope to one day give it another go with a little more prep.

    Good story telling and cinematography. How impressive that despite the survival riding, you had the mind to keep filming. Can't decide which is more enjoyable, the scenery or your singing. Kudos also for not exaggerating on the stats. Very envious of your entire experience. Thanks for sharing!

    Hey Joe, what are you wearing on your legs at 6:11 (time of video). I'm looking to get some kind of protection for my shins while riding trails. Was wondering what it is you got on. Thx!

    • @JoeDeF
      @JoeDeF  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Those are just copper compression knee sleeves that are slid down my legs. For shin protection, they have Mtn bike-specific shin pads, or you might even be able to get away with soccer knee pads too. Happy trails!
