🎉Great video yep just ordered hinges and replacements required. I have the crappie spring type hinge and tried greasing a year ago once both front doors on my 2017 dodge caravan started popping sound and eventually driver side door broke. You just gave me what’s required. Thanks!
I think this will be extremely helpful I have a 1990 Dodge van and the brackets have little couplers in them that need replacing and the door leans so now the assembly that closes the doors broken due to the leaning.. Time to take it all apart and fix it❤
Just letting you know I just did this on a 2002 Dodge Durango. All you need is a metric socket wrench. The hinges are just bolted on, no cutting needed. Everything comes off with one wrench.
At 7:10 what happened to you other wire connector??? You only connected one back and not the smaller one. Oddly it disappeared from view. Did it fall back into the frame?
Great question, and great Eyes 👀!!! So I actually replaced the entire door, which unfortunately for me had a different wire connector. My original door was damaged but the wire connector inside was still good, BUT it had 2 connectors, while the new donor door I got had 1 connector. So in addition to removing and reinstalling the door as shown in this video, I later had to also swap out and open up the insides of my original door AND the replacement door to switch the entire wire harness so it would plug into the rest of the wire inside of the A Pillar section which you spot. 👏👏👏 This might sound confusing, but basically I got a replacement door that was identical except the wiring harness. I still posted the video to help others out. Unfortunately I didn't record swapping of the wire harness, but for most people that would be pointless, as if you are looking for a door to replace usually the wire harness is the same so therefore you only need to remove and reinstall a door if long if the part number (or door in this case) is the same. Long story, but hope this explanation helped, and again great job on catching this!!!
I am putting a new door on my car but i forgot if i had 2 connectors as well. So the connectors didnt line up on the other door? Dont know if i will have to do this as well, any idea if you remember trying it? And also your old harness had a spot for 2 connectors it seems like, thats odd if you didnt have a need for it
Did you watch the video? He showed attaching door onto bolts and bolts and made harness connection to insure all electrical wiring worked before completing tightening bolts and nuts.
I went to pick up a used 2001 dodge stratus 4 dr, driver door. Your right about that.( heavy) That door had my back hurting , but I put it in and out even tried the back seat ,that didn't work loading it in my 1988 buick electra park ave. It has a big trunk but still, can't shut it all the way, almost. My back is halfway better next morning. Now to install my great buy $80 dollar and $20. in gas driver door . now to find what to lift it today , so I don't have to do more than balance half the weight. lot of big blocks I cut with a chainsaw I guess and a rubber tire 2 wheel dolly to move old one away to junk pile.
@@FixCarYourself Helped a lot , a replacement door arrived today with hinges still fitted but thanks to your video I will retain the original hinges on the car and hopefully everything will line up ok. Cheers !
I kinda wanna switch a crushed door from one car and swap in a donor door from my other donor car. What about disassembling the door and stealing it's trim and window and mirror. I kinda wanna take the metal panel off and paint it to match belt putting it on.
My door opened while I was backing up my driveway and clipped the corner of my smaller cabin Flexed the driver’s door towards the front of the truck There is difficulty opening and closing Any information I can get would help 2010 dodge ram Please I am asking for your help and opinion
Might have to bend some of the door to bring it back in shape or use one of those puller pieces. Or if its the hinge area check to see if any of the screws looks damaged.
The stud is welded into the actual door. So not something that is normally replaced. If you know how to weld or use an alternative method that may help.
Not specifically sure for an Avenger, but most likely yes for the front door. You also have to disconnect the wire harness connector and the door has to be open to do that.
I think so. However do a quick part search and you'll know for sure. I took a wire harness off once before and the connector was different in the it was split into 2 connectors instead if 1, but that was for a 2010, and a 2008. For 05 to 07. They should be the same. But when in doubt do a part search.
I have the second type of hinges and my driver's door won't stay propped open but I can't figure out what's wrong with the hinge that it won't catch and hold itself open
It depends on the hinge type of the vehicle. Also, you may be able to take the bottom off completely if long if you loosen the top hinge. I'm not looking at the door at the moment, but that's what I'm thinking.
@@FixCarYourself Preciate it! I actually went to pull apart earlier & swapped out the hinges when I got back. I did end up taking the the door off though.
Flying 2000km to pick up a 2014 Cherokee that's had a sideswipe scrape and dent on the passenger door and the owners are selling for half market value. Easy flip. It's a big enough city I know I won't even need to paint a door, I'll find a color match at a wreckers. Just checking in before I go, making sure it's as straightforward as it oughta be. Guess I'm booking a flight!
2008, but its the same from 2005 and higher for many Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep cars. Or its very similar. So this video should help. Keep in mind when replacing the door that the wire harness connector might not be the same...so if replacing the entire door make sure its identical otherwise you may have to swap the entire wire harness from the previous door, which is hard for people with big or medium size hands IMO.
@@randystull1502 @Randy Stull It can be quite hard. You have to push the flap and wiggle it out. I used a flat tip and wedged it out while pushing the flap. You could also try using a pliers on the flap part. Have patience with this. I found this to be the hardest part of the entire removing of the door.

A good tip is to install the hinges to the car first exactly on the lines you marked to line it up.
Possibly but then it might be hard to put the door in place???? thoughts?
@FixCarYourself No, it worked perfect. With a helper of course.
Nice

You could switch the components but it's hard. I did that with the door wiring harness before.but the trim and side mirror are easy.

Check to see if the hinge is properly aligned and tightened. You might have to adjust it as well.
Can you take off the lower hinge without removing the door or the top hinge?

For vehicles that use a key fob, will the new door recognize it?
Yes, the wire connector connects to the door. So no problem.
I have that torx mechanism on the top but not the bottom. Shit. The other side has it top and bottom.
The torx is actually easier, assuming you have it.

Nope...I just wanted others to see how to remove the hinges. As sometimes people just replace 1 of the hinges.

I agree, I had one wire harness where the plastic broke a little bit by the door connector. Just pry slowly and carefully maybe change up the tools.
