You echo my feelings so closely. I am 55, have been a qualified nurse, social worker for older people and so have managed the care of many others with dementia and I now find Drs & nurses talking down to me and friends\family stepping away as if it may be catching. Because I needed to talk to others of a similar age to myself, with similar concerns, I found I had to start my own support group. This way we can chat to others who know exactly how we are feeling, with no judgements. It seems we can only access this type of opportunity if we create it for ourselves. Then the professionals react badly if we become angry or frustrated when we are treated badly and complain. Thank you for presenting the positive face of living with dementia xx
62Tyke Thank you and I’m so interested how you got your group started? That is fantastic!! It’s so true people back away, it’s amazing how fast they can run away.
Thank you Lisa for sharing your story and you are more than lovable to have a loving caregiver. The right caregiver for you will come, maybe not today or tomorrow but im sure soon. Don´t give up hope.
If anyone is lovable, that would be you! You deserve a caregiver that will take care of you the same way you took care of your mom. Don't give up. That person is out there. You need to find each other. Thank you for your videos and giving us a sense of what it's like on the other side. We need to be reminded that it's hard for the person with dementia too.
Wish I was closer I'd for sure help you out. I hope you can find a good one soon! I can understand where you're coming from in this video. Even with me not having dementia, I can't stand when someone thinks I'm stupid or don't listen to what I am saying. You're awesome and as lovable as they come. ❤
Thank you Lisa. So frustrating that you are having difficulty finding a caregiver. Agh!! I think you are loveable .. there will be other reasons why people don’t come forward but it won’t be because of you I am sure!! Thanks for sharing. I try to give rob a voice - but it is very difficult when he talks so quietly. Bless him! If I ever show any disrespect do let me know!! I won’t be offended or defensive- I’d just like to know :-) x
Gill Butchard The one I’m having trouble with has 7 kids. She doesn’t even know she’s been replaced. I look for her to show up after school is back in session. The other one starts Monday. We are going to talk about scheduling, shop and make crockpot meals to put in the freezer. I’ll be happy to let you know if you are being disrespectful.😉
It is extremely difficult when you are searching for a support group and cannot find one. Such a shame as it is so very important for you and others as well. Your videos bring such awareness for so many. Thank you for opening your heart to share your journey. I hope you find a care taker soon. It is far too much for you to manage everything all on your own.
Hi Lisa ;) I actually felt like a little stab into my heart (as if I know) ... when I heard your doubts about you; being loveable enough or not ... that gave me the immidiate inkling of how I do love you, even if we never even met, or spoke to each other. The great thing about being human, is our ability to feel, what it's all about, like I felt that pain-twinge in my heart region, when you said that. Looking forward to having a good caregiver, as I do for you in my minds eye, is not only a hopeful thought, but one that brings some cheer, as in anticipating and inviting a kind, strong and thrustworthy person, crossing your path. I also 'see' you, bending over the shoulder of some kid, who just played something beautifully, after maybe many difficult beginnings, and the proud look on your and the child's face ... that's the picture I get, listening to you. I've begun to listen to the very first recordings, so I'm getting to know the Lisa~Story. I do read little comments from you, at Gill's page, and I feel almost as if I hear your voice, with what you write, like I've got Gill's voice 'in me' too ... Hoping this is not too long, I greet you.
Your so welcome, I wished I lived where you are or you lived this way, I would be happy to help you, it's so sad that there not much help or support group's, prayers always from me, to Jesus for y'all.
Lisa, you used the phrase "we were somebody " ... Lisa, you are somebody! It may have been a slip of the tongue, but I just wanted to make sure you know that you matter. Hugs and love
