about midway through the video, where you explain how there's no need to feel anxiety because different outcomes don't actually affect our happiness, things just sort of clicked for me. i paused the video, exclaimed "wait a second, what are you telling me?" and then proceeded to just laugh for a while because i was so full of joy with this realization. i want to wholeheartedly thank you for what you're doing, i think you're really helping a lot of people with these videos.

THANK YOU NOAH!!!! The way you address this habit hit the nail for me. While listening I just naturally started to do what I needed to do!!! Your explanation kind of opened a new door inside me, it let me breath. This thing of associating the value of ourselves with the outcome of what we do, and that preventing ourselves from not putting 100 percent of our efforts into it is crucial. Thanks again! I have no questions for now. Busy putting my house in order and enjoying it!!! :)

Thank you again, Noah. As usual, you are able to communicate practical insights in a way that makes them immediately accessible. I think I will need ti watch this video over a few times. What is most amazing is your ability to share with a deep humility across a broad range of very raw, issues in a way that makes timeless spiritual insights sound like plain old common sense. You are in a league all of your own here. There is zero sense that you are somehow more spiritually enlightened than your viewers and this to me is a hallmark of a genuine sage. Procrastination has been a huge issue in my life, so I am glad you shone the light of your wisdom onto this topic. There is always something more than you words that communicate, it's a deep sense of peace that transmits in your voice tone and mannerisms. I think/feel/ that the insights shared in this video will have a tangible impact on my life in many ways. Thank you, my friend.

Noah, where have you been all my life? You have opened my eyes to this new way of thinking that I swear I've heard before like when other people would say...don't let such and such bother you or bring you down etc...but the way you explain things as our 'thoughts' and the meaning we give them, it is just so much more relatable and recognizable and understandable. Thanks for all of your videos. They are so helpful. I have to take notes and create affirmations to post all over my house with this more realistic way of thinking! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! :)

I had my doubts about this, but I did a list of all the tasks I had to do today, and I've got to say this was the most productive sunday I've had on the past 6 month and I´m talking about personal stuff I was leaving for later because "I wanted to rest". My job leaves me with little to no free time.. I didn't know I would feel so satisfied after following my own list of small tasks, now I have literally nothing else to do than actually relax. I spent my entire day busy, and distracted from my bad thoughts. Thanks!

Noah, finding you on you tube has been a total blessing. I watched your initial video on loneliness and wow!!! I have been so down due to my family leaving me and my girlfriend passing away last year and after listening to your lecture I have realised that yes.... its my thoughts about these circumstances which are keeping me from having peace rather than still having my family and my girlfriend around me what a revelation. I thought there was something wrong with me for my sons and extended family to cast me aside, but now I realise that for whatever reason this is exactly how its meant to be and there is nothing wrong with me, and as soon as I let go of the thoughts and obsession with wanting to be with them, I have peace and happiness. I also am embarking on writing a book and your lecture on procrastination has helped me big time, not only getting started with it, but also completing my assignment for Tafe. I am so grateful to you (and the universe for helping me find you!!) as I have been becoming desperate for answers. Its frightening just how far down these thoughts can take you and the lies they tell, I have been chronically depressed by them not long ago and I don't want to be in that state ever again.I will be watching all your other videos as Im sure Ive only just scratched the surface.Kind regardsKaren Dean

    Pro tip: Speed 1.5x
Also this video blew my mind, it truly got down into the bottom of why we procrastinate and how we end up procrastinating as opposed to "here is magic trick to stop procrastinating!".
To be able to stop procrastinating you need to understand how procrastination works.
If you want to make changes in your life you need to understand how your life works.
If you want to learn how to draw you have got to first learn how vision works or you will probably never get good.
If you want to learn to fix computers, you first have to learn how computers work, computers can break down in unpredictable ways, and you can guess which parts of it are failing (hardware or software alike) by knowing how it all comes together, seeing where the chain breaks, and then fixing that broken link.
    Same principle.
What really got me is that he actually described my dominant type of procrastination. It took him like the entire video to do it, but the last type he described resonated so deeply with me, it's like "wow, that sounds exactly like me". And then he talks about how to prevent that type of procrastination and goes into for example how "well, just stop doing it" doesn't work, I've been there, I've had habits, things that I do as procrastination instead of teh thing I'm supposed to do, and I have found the magic trick to stop doing things, truly. I am so good at it if I wanted to I could spend an entire day staring at a wall while surrounded by better things to do... But the reality is that "not doing" is not enough to make you "do something else".
I was a bit disappointed though that he basically told me something I know, that the way to solve this type of procrastination is self awareness, when I notice I am procrastinating, to stop and think "why am I doing this, what am I trying to escape now?" and the reason I'm disappointed is that I've been there, I've done that, and sure I can easily know what I'm trying to escape from doing, but it can take me days, weeks, months, or even years to figure out the "why" I am trying to escape it. However earlier insights from the video may help with that.
    Good video.

Thank you for the videos, Noah. I find all the one's I've watched helpful. I've been a procrastinator my whole life and I can relate to all the reasons you cover. I've made some progress in some areas but overall it's still a big problem in my life. I really have to challenge myself to stop procrastinating because I'm neglecting too many things and I can't afford to do that anymore. I avoid tasks because I don't want to feel the discomfort I feel when doing them. Usually I tell myself stories about how in the future there will be bad outcomes because I'm not taking care of things and I think I also tend to tell myself I'm not good enough and that other's think I'm not , too. If I shift my thoughts or question them like you suggest probably half the time I end up feeling better. The times I can't change my feelings about my thoughts I keep wishing I could so the pain will stop.

Noah, there was a time when I listened to all your videos and wanted more. !! ; ) There’s so much value in every single video whether someone thinks it applies to them or not ......
Since then, I went through and intensive 3mos trauma therapy and have learned so much and have freed up a lot of anxiety and stress and stories ... as well as having learned the areas where I have patterns based on that childhood trauma. Wow. ExceptionalTherapy is golden ... you have an excellent explanation for how people “think/suffer” and you explain these things so simply, eloquently and with such care and respect .... I love you so much for the help you bring to people. Thank you 😊 huuuugs!

I started laughing in the middle of the video because I've discovered why I'm so "unhappy" with my job, it's not the job it's my thoughts about job and comparing it to a fantasy in my mind. This is life changing! Thank you!!!

This helped me so much more compared to all the "make a plan" and "time management" stuff which, in the end just made me over think more. This video made so much sense to me. I hope I can just get rid all of these thoughts from my head rather than just drowning them with something pleasurable but transient. Working on it. :)

    5 major reasons for procrastination
    1. overwhelming
solution: breaking down big tasks into smaller tasks. dont think abt a million things at the same time- focus on 1 and "WHERE TO START" and write it down
    2. previous time we did it we didn't enjoy it
solution: you were unhappy because of your thoughts not because of your task.
    eg
    a. anxiety- it would be bad if - i cant finish, i cant do it, it doesnt work out. however u don't KNOW if it will be good or bad. but u actually never know. it might be good for u. think of a good reason why opposite to be true.
    b. thinking im not good enough, smart, quick, able. ask yourself- do i know that to be true? if you arent capable- you can recognize more important things - like it doenst make u bad. or u may discover that u are capable.
3.) mind tricks us - this is suffering
when the fantasy comes - what do you want most in life? fantasy may not be better than present. have its own inconveniences and suffering that is worse.
    4. we are suffering now, we try to distract ourselves from other than task
    5. task isn't right fit for us

Thank you for sharing this. I finally have a system that I can rely on when suffering indecision.
Writing it down into a list of tasks.
Placing small achievable goals next to those tasks.
Ordering the task list into most achievable.
(P.s. most people need to do ASMR, would certainly calm a lot of people.)

I am very creative with home and outdoor projects. Yet I find myself starting new ones before I actually finish others that were already started. Sometimes I do procrastinate yet I am more concerned as to why I "horde" projects and then feel overwhelmed. I haven't truly found the answer in the few videos I have seen. Just saw you yesterday for the first time.
