It’s unneeded. But I believe Ford knows their customers. It’s not needed on the regular f150 either. But it’s there. The Expedition has the identical transmission as the f150. But the Expedition has a relatively small knob. But the 150 has a shift lever. That’s because they realize that at least for now, the f150 owner prefers a traditional shifter.

I am there with you. A $7k FSD dual motor preorder and a $8k FSD single motor. F150 Lightning is sold out until 2025 at least. Probably when quad motor Cybertruck gives way to tri and dual motor variants. It seems like batteries will continue to be the hold up. They are still using small machines to produce the 4680 in limited quantities. Elon had hoped they would have big machines running by now. He knows that's not happening until at least Q1 2023. I am hoping batteries make a breakthrough and the dual motor comes on sale in 2024. Seems like forever. Will have to make due with ebikes for now!

Re 1:41 - my Toyota Mirai also does that. First time seeing that key-sensing auto-unlock feature on a truck though.
Gimmicks aside, the sheer quantity of power jacks on board the Lightning is one fantastic way to make up for charging time. Bi-directional charging is another nice bonus because it means the F150 Lightning can easily replace a Generac as an emergency home power source.

    • @charlescourtney4412

Indeed, if a prolonged but localized power outage occurs (happens occasionally in my neighborhood), you can power your house until the truck's battery gets somewhat low then drive it to a working power station and reload the battery.

Gotta give Ford credit for copying Tesla’s marketing strategy. Giving TH-camrs front-of-the-line privileges to review cars is a more cost effective way to advertise than paying for traditional advertising like television commercials. On the frunk alone, it's the best truck ever. Give me a in-bed trunk like the Ridgeline and the fender/tailgate storage like the Ram 1500, and it would be nearly perfect. Fix that portrait view display to a horizontal one tho. Oh yeah, put a charging port on either side of the truck!!!

I don't know if you've ever had a portrait view display in a car before or not, or if you're just judging it based on videos/pictures... but I've sat in one before and it's actually amazing how the big portrait view feels really natural and beautiful as a center console. Ford has a winner. If any were available, I would want to buy one. In any case, an excellent review. You gave all the pluses and minuses. It might not be as comfy as the Rivian, but the Rivian is unaffordable for most people; it is a niche truck and more for show than for work. This truck is a hardcore work truck, and it has a broad range of price points, making entry-level 150s affordable for the average person. Rivian is a beautiful vehicle, but it is not a game-changer. The F-150 will get people who would never buy an EV into this space. Without question, the F-150 is a game-changer.

Just to try to stop wrong before it becomes popular - This is the second time I've seen "geofenced" used incorrectly in regards to BlueCruise. BlueCruise is not geofenced. Geofenced things means they could work everywhere, but you are using location to enable it or disable it. BlueCruise only works where it's been built. It doesn't work where it's not been built. That's not geofencing. That's called it doesn't exist there yet. If it was geofenced, that means it exists on most roads but disabled from use where Ford has decided they don't want you to use it.

I like the look. I think Tesla is looking at disappointing sales on the Cyber Truck for a couple of reasons. 1 - it looks like a goofy looking space ship and 2 - it’s way too large for the average garage. I wouldn’t want to leave it sitting outside. I have a typical two car garage with separate doors so it won’t fit. Even if I had the larger single door the garage wouldn’t be able to store a second normal vehicle. Only a side by side or a motor cycle. Will it fit in a normal parking slot? TBD…
Then again Musk has done well with his cars and his smart charging stations and StarLink so perhaps he’s right on this funny looking massive truck. Maybe he has plans for a normal size model in the near future. I hope if he does it’s not so goofy looking.

I’m 76, have solar power and would like to get a Ford lightning as my last vehicle and I need a truck but the chip shortage has Ford unable to meet demand. I’ve been to my local dealer after seeing Ford ads saying the Lightning would be available in late winter-early spring 2022. The dealer took my name and number but told me their EV truck would not be available until sometime next year …maybe - due to chip shortages and those issues are driving up prices now even though they have nothing to sell.
Other folks are warning me to expect dealer ripoff surcharges and only having the high end versions initially available. Based on past experience I realize that’s more than just likely, it’s a certainty. Greed in shipping chip production offshore to save a few bucks per chip has caused this mess. Perhaps it’s time for Ford and the rest of these manufacturers to bring that chip production back home to the US rather than having to shut down plants and lose billions in sales. Greed has its way of getting back at the greedy. If I’m wrong about this conclusion I’d like to hear back from you on why you disagree. I follow your channel. I realize you’re working for Ford now but hope for an honest, objective reply …if you do reply.
