I know this is an old video and idk if anyone will see this but this was a HUGE help for me. I was was so confused on how to get the rotor off of the truck I’m working on. It was the parking brake setup the whole time! Thank you!

I'm not a pro but I thought I push down on the bracket bolts? I know on the front driver side you push down and on the front passenger side you pull up lossen the bolts, is it the same for the rear? Like I said I'm not a mechanic but want to do my rear brakes/rotors on my 2017 chevy silverado.
How relevant is this video for someone needing to change the rear pads and rotors on a 2012 Chevy Express 2500 8 lug 9.5 rear end (14 bolts on diff cover)??? Thanks
A Chevy truck is a Chevy truck. If it's disk brake, it'll be close to this, if it's drum brake, find another video (yours is disk). Chevy uses the montra, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it... Unless the government makes me change it."
I just spent 3 hours out side with the caliper between 2 jack stands and beating on it with a mini sledgehammer to get apart, when you put it back together clean and never seize the pins
+onenite2nite We currently do not have an auto repair video that covers this particular repair. We will keep this request in mind in the event that we need to make this repair in the future. 1aauto.com
POOR JOB: You did not bother to repair the axel seal leak even though replaced the brake pads and rotor put everything together even torqued everything but never adjusted the parking brake. Not much thought about SAFETY!
You're lucky if the parking brake isnt completely siezed on these trucks anyway. But true, you're going to want it to work well when your brake lines blow.
William Volkmann like a lug nut bolt or a caliper mounting bolt? I broke off a caliper bolt once and I went and bought a whole new caliper. Your only other option would be to drill the bolt out and re tap it, just put a thicker bolt in.
great video, but my owners manual says torque lug nuts to 140 ft-lbs and video says 120 ft-lbs. i dont know if it matters whatsoever but check your manual.
you say the gear oil leaking from the axle seal is not to to bad ??? so we are just going to let it go ??? WOW REALLY ??? those pads still have a lot of life in them. yes they are worn but still good to go another 5000 miles i think... with all the gear oil on the parking brake shoes they just won't hold the truck well. oil on brake shoes is a large safety issue you think ??? another thing you never never back feed brake fluid into a ABS system ever... it will plug up the tiny orifices in the ABS system this is the first thing you learn in Brake School hello... where did all the brake fluid go ???

I've never seen anyone replace pads like this before. It looks like a real pita. Why not just pull the caliper pad housing off and do it the easy way?
I really appreciate yalls videos!
What a great instructor
Thank you
Is this application the same/similar to 2500 6.0 gasoline?

Maybe because no one is here for the axel seal leak other wise we would’ve looked up axel seal leak right?
You're lucky if the parking brake isnt completely siezed on these trucks anyway. But true, you're going to want it to work well when your brake lines blow.
Axle seal is leaking why wouldn't you just replace it your right there unreal I don't get it do the job right the first time.
3:50 STARTS
Hit the tires on the inside with the mallet, they pop off instantly.
You don’t live in the rest belt do you. I’ve had to heat and a 10lbs sled hammer in the past.
Thanks for the tips
Never in my life have I heard somebody call that brake parts cleaner
show us what is done when a bolt breaks off
William Volkmann like a lug nut bolt or a caliper mounting bolt? I broke off a caliper bolt once and I went and bought a whole new caliper. Your only other option would be to drill the bolt out and re tap it, just put a thicker bolt in.
Those brakes didn’t really need to be done
Dat rubber that looked weird looked like my morning wood till i pull it out
great video, but my owners manual says torque lug nuts to 140 ft-lbs and video says 120 ft-lbs. i dont know if it matters whatsoever but check your manual.
We do recommend to go by your manual. Thank you for watching our video! +sgtwildbill
Brake parts cleaner is killing me
+Cody Kelsoe Thanks for the feedback!
What do you call it?
@@adamkorekach9936 I'm confused why people keep commenting this.. What else would you call it? Brake cleaner lol
I wonder how many people have blown seals on the caliper because you didn't tell anyone to open the bleeder screw before depressing the caliper
Or just take the cap off of the brake fluid resivore.
@@larrygro about to do this tomorrow hope that helps it.
Never done that on any brake jobs and never blown a seal

Those torx bolts holding the bracket to the caliper are never coming out haha. Dumb design.
