NGL the Isekai early this year that surprised the most was "wrong way to use healing magic". Its one of the few anime/Isekais I can think of where I go "how is it that I like the Main characters, the side characters and the background characters?!" Nobody is unlikeable in that show lol
Yeah it's amazing... that you actually liked those characters. Let alone most of the cast being so one-dimensional, one of the main ones was just a bully with no ability to empathize whatsoever (despite the tragic backstory where she acts exactly the same). Then there was almost no focus at all on the actual skills that let the 3 become heroes in the first place. White orb dude only managed to hurt himself in the single fight he had, while the lightning and green glow heal were the most generic usage ever, with the occasional "development" of something like "oh I just started healing from the inside out for poisons". I really wanted to like it but it let me down so hard.

Also rose is a military official, it makes sense she's hard on her subordinates. That's her job. She seemed respectful when talking to her superiors and to people who don't insult her for appearances.
Rose carried the show tbh. I was fully expecting her dommy mommy antics to just be played for comedy, and then I was caught off guard when they gave her literally any depth at all. Hardly anime of the year material, but I went in expecting mediocrity and was surprised how attached I got.
Imo they should just do a Mushoku Tensei and found a separate studio to adapt it. The part 3 is hype already and when Part 5 hits, we all are going to Isekai.
As a Re:Zero LN reader I hope they don't mess up this season. Apparently they adapt arc 5 AND 6. Arc 6 is legitimately my favourite story arc of all time, but it will be so difficult to adapt it perfectly. Btw leaks say it's between 38-42 episodes which is huge

You can especially tell in the sequels made after then: when we compare Steins;Gate to 0 and Utawarerumono Itsuwari no Kamen to Futari no Hakuoro, it's a pretty big gap all around. They clearly lost a lot of their more talented staff. Not the point, ruin Arc 5 with mediocre fights, i'm still okay with that. But they don't dare touch Arc 6 after the hatecrime they did with Arc 4. The moment i saw they still kept that ugly paint-blood-like, i knew it would have been mediocre. There's more animation on the way the blood is dripping on Rem's left arm on ep 15 from Season 1, than the entirety of Season 2 and from the looks of things, season 3 as well. Season 2 wasn't even that beloved by ReZero fans, let alone the mainstream audience, and don't hit me with Anime Awards or some MAL's rating score. It was objectively a bad adaptation, which creates the idea that ReZero fell off when in reality it's the studio that did.

There are many who enjoyed working there as much as the one's who were at their edge of mental sanity. Their strong point is they trust new directors with really high profile productions which mostl studios don't. Also Zenshu has been in planning from a while ago. But I can't say the production is safe. It's going to be scuffed as hell since the animation producer for this is Takahiro Ogawa who was the producer for Bucchigiri and is also doing Tondemo skill s2.
"Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!" is the best anime about making anime! I don't know that any others I've seen have been so incredibly imaginative in how it uses the medium itself to explore and explain the medium and how it can affect people.
As a light novel reader, I'll add one more promising isekai to the list. New Gate. It's basically a... if instead of escaping the death game in SAO, Kirito advanced to Log Horizon along with every player that died during the death game. It's not the greatest isekai, but it definitely understood mmorpgs almost as well as Log Horizon did.

26:23 don’t know how many chapters in you got, but the world building goes off the fucking rails after awhile, I had to drop it cause I couldn’t understand anything anymore. The hiatuses didn’t help, I felt like I had to re-read the whole thing before reading new chapters. I don’t know if there are actual retcons, but it felt like the entire thing changed at some point.

He is probably the most pathetic MC i’ve ever come across with one of the most broken abilities in novel, manga, and anime combined. The ability to return by death is pretty broken especially if you’ve read other characters with the power of regression.

Those were the three best anime of last season IMO, at least out of the ones I watched. I almost feel like Frieren continuation is a case of "they didn't announce a new season because they didn't feel the need to, because we all know it was way too successful to just leave there"
issue i have with overlord anime is that it skips so much of the inner dialogue, infighting and roundabout conversations that most of the actually interesting aspects of the setting are skipped and replaced by Ainz simply lucking his way through EVERYTHING rather than simply being a very knowledgable and cautious combatant with no actual admin/bureaucratic skills. in the LNs he spends his "rest" time (doesn't need to sleep) spying on almost everyone he can in order to learn or reading self-help books, the other half is spent walking around tripping into situations that turn to his advantage in the long-run (IMO his high RPG int-stat turning him into an idiot-savant, terrible conscious deductive skills but an incredibly polished instinct for when to make a move and where) in the LNs he's constantly training his "lower" subordinates, while handing the top 2-4 people he can't figure out a lot of the maintenance/planning/ruling/legal tasks (knowing he doesn't get it) and genuinely doing everything he can to further his goals of being a good leader and protecting the creations of his friends (even though most of them exasperate him by being utterly ruthless to each other and hold ZERO value in the lives of humans where he would prefer a less confrontational approach). a classic case of "neat 1st season, but i'm only watching it now because i want to see some of the standout moments i loved in the more detailed story animated" i'd honestly prefer they had done less episodes per season and had focussed the highlights of one novel at a time, this movie is hitting stuff in volume 12+ (of 16/17?) (and IMO it was one of the weaker arcs as it was viewed mostly from the perspective of a "random" who happened to be around ainz later on, the core story was pretty much "this lot can't hold their own even against regional issues, let's tip the balance and take advantage while pretending to be sneaky")
I just started watching Mushoku Tensei this week. I'm already almost finished with the first season. Randomly decided to watch your video on it, and I wanted to start watching something new, so it worked out. Did not expect to like it so much, especially after ignoring it on Crunchyroll for so long due to the weird title. I'm glad I gave it a chance. I have no idea how to sum up my feelings on this story so far. It's incredibly... weird... with some of its subject matter, for all the reasons that have been talked about to death in the anime community. Luckily, I'm not a smoothbrain degenerate who can't look past controversy if there's a good story in the middle of it. There certainly is a GREAT story in the middle of it, and I'm enjoying it immensely. All the characters are great, even ones I didn't think I would like very much initially. Plot is kinda all over the place, but it always comes back together again in a satisfying way. Hell, I've already found myself tearing up once or twice. Honestly, it's one of those anime series that's struck a weird part of me in a very personal way. As a loser approaching 30 with a dead-end job and no real connections to anybody outside of work and gaming, I can't help but see some of myself in Rudeus' past life. All the stuff with his father tends to hit a bit hard for me too. Really didn't go into this thinking it was going to do that, given it's basically an isekai about a guy trying to get with three girls he meets as a child. I'll be looking forward to the second season, and hopefully more to come after that.
Monogatari?!!!!!!!!! Aaa I’m so satisfied with the ending season (in chronological order) but I don’t mind getting more. I wished it would get dub to get more people into it but I know the translation of the heavy Japanese jokes and folklore won’t hit the same way.

To add on to your argument, I feel like the anime community was always changing even back then as we're slowly forgetting older shows. Haruhi is already well faded into obscurity which is crazy to me as I remember it being huge during my older cousins time. I guess I'm just clinging to the idea that stuff are still as popular now as they were during their peak. Comparing the old hits to their successors today (JJK, Oshi No Ko) and I'd argue they both had the same impact on the community, but that community is just a million times bigger. Anime isn't really a niche anymore and I think it's pretty interesting to see.

Lot of people watch anime casually with how popular it has gotten, and with how much anime we get seasonally it is no wonder most don't look into older anime. And yeah I agree, I'd argue that for an average person, today's anime is a lot more appealing to the eyes and the pacing is a lot better with the technology and trends we have now. Even then, if you were to really like anime and want to watch more, just imagine how many mainstream anime they'd have to get through to even come across a show like monogatari, it'd take years and most wouldn't even put in the effort.
MAPPA making a wholesome anime about anime production is like Amazon making a series about how enjoyable and fulfilling it is to work in a distribution center.
I've read the novel for Gimai Seikatsu, or Days with my Stepsister, and just like Garnt I was expecting some hot garbage. Surprisingly, it was a really mature take on the subject. At least. In the first few volumes, idk I haven't read beyond that.

Blue Box deserves its debut. It's a superb manga that stands out above many others.

As a light novel reader, I'll add one more promising isekai to the list. New Gate. It's basically a... if instead of escaping the death game in SAO, Kirito advanced to Log Horizon along with every player that died during the death game. It's not the greatest isekai, but it definitely understood mmorpgs almost as well as Log Horizon did.

26:23 don’t know how many chapters in you got, but the world building goes off the fucking rails after awhile, I had to drop it cause I couldn’t understand anything anymore. The hiatuses didn’t help, I felt like I had to re-read the whole thing before reading new chapters. I don’t know if there are actual retcons, but it felt like the entire thing changed at some point.

Not trying to hate but im genuinely curious why Re:Zero is popular? He is probably the most pathetic MC i’ve ever come across with one of the most broken abilities in novel, manga, and anime combined. The ability to return by death is pretty broken especially if you’ve read other characters with the power of regression.
@@NotShantrix many people and myself believe he is one of the best MCs because of how pathetic he is. He grows throughout the story and has to deal with loads of hardship.

Those were the three best anime of last season IMO, at least out of the ones I watched. I almost feel like Frieren continuation is a case of "they didn't announce a new season because they didn't feel the need to, because we all know it was way too successful to just leave there"

issue i have with overlord anime is that it skips so much of the inner dialogue, infighting and roundabout conversations that most of the actually interesting aspects of the setting are skipped and replaced by Ainz simply lucking his way through EVERYTHING rather than simply being a very knowledgable and cautious combatant with no actual admin/bureaucratic skills. in the LNs he spends his "rest" time (doesn't need to sleep) spying on almost everyone he can in order to learn or reading self-help books, the other half is spent walking around tripping into situations that turn to his advantage in the long-run (IMO his high RPG int-stat turning him into an idiot-savant, terrible conscious deductive skills but an incredibly polished instinct for when to make a move and where)
in the LNs he's constantly training his "lower" subordinates, while handing the top 2-4 people he can't figure out a lot of the maintenance/planning/ruling/legal tasks (knowing he doesn't get it) and genuinely doing everything he can to further his goals of being a good leader and protecting the creations of his friends (even though most of them exasperate him by being utterly ruthless to each other and hold ZERO value in the lives of humans where he would prefer a less confrontational approach).
a classic case of "neat 1st season, but i'm only watching it now because i want to see some of the standout moments i loved in the more detailed story animated"
i'd honestly prefer they had done less episodes per season and had focussed the highlights of one novel at a time, this movie is hitting stuff in volume 12+ (of 16/17?) (and IMO it was one of the weaker arcs as it was viewed mostly from the perspective of a "random" who happened to be around ainz later on, the core story was pretty much "this lot can't hold their own even against regional issues, let's tip the balance and take advantage while pretending to be sneaky")

I just started watching Mushoku Tensei this week. I'm already almost finished with the first season. Randomly decided to watch your video on it, and I wanted to start watching something new, so it worked out. Did not expect to like it so much, especially after ignoring it on Crunchyroll for so long due to the weird title. I'm glad I gave it a chance.
I have no idea how to sum up my feelings on this story so far. It's incredibly... weird... with some of its subject matter, for all the reasons that have been talked about to death in the anime community. Luckily, I'm not a smoothbrain degenerate who can't look past controversy if there's a good story in the middle of it. There certainly is a GREAT story in the middle of it, and I'm enjoying it immensely. All the characters are great, even ones I didn't think I would like very much initially. Plot is kinda all over the place, but it always comes back together again in a satisfying way. Hell, I've already found myself tearing up once or twice.
Honestly, it's one of those anime series that's struck a weird part of me in a very personal way. As a loser approaching 30 with a dead-end job and no real connections to anybody outside of work and gaming, I can't help but see some of myself in Rudeus' past life. All the stuff with his father tends to hit a bit hard for me too. Really didn't go into this thinking it was going to do that, given it's basically an isekai about a guy trying to get with three girls he meets as a child.
I'll be looking forward to the second season, and hopefully more to come after that.

I never expected Medalist to get an anime I read it awhile ago maybe early last year or the year before that and it was actually really good glad it is getting an anime because it deserves a lot of credit

To add on to your argument, I feel like the anime community was always changing even back then as we're slowly forgetting older shows. Haruhi is already well faded into obscurity which is crazy to me as I remember it being huge during my older cousins time. I guess I'm just clinging to the idea that stuff are still as popular now as they were during their peak. Comparing the old hits to their successors today (JJK, Oshi No Ko) and I'd argue they both had the same impact on the community, but that community is just a million times bigger. Anime isn't really a niche anymore and I think it's pretty interesting to see.

Lot of people watch anime casually with how popular it has gotten, and with how much anime we get seasonally it is no wonder most don't look into older anime. And yeah I agree, I'd argue that for an average person, today's anime is a lot more appealing to the eyes and the pacing is a lot better with the technology and trends we have now. Even then, if you were to really like anime and want to watch more, just imagine how many mainstream anime they'd have to get through to even come across a show like monogatari, it'd take years and most wouldn't even put in the effort.
