The Reddit list was actually a pretty good list. Although a lot of the comments were complaining that the music doesn’t matter and that pissed me off.
fr, like jjk's soundtrack sold me on that show so fucking hard. reading the manga and it's just not the same without it
Nah both lists miss the legendary guilty crown op.
@@Loldx123 Okay one opening? I wish that Zeta Gundam and Gundam ZZ OPs were on there, but that doesn't make the entire list bad.
What do they mean that music doesn't matter?!
It's just an opinion. Nonetheless, as a person who does care for music; I can not imagine enjoying anime as much as I have if the openings had shitty music.
Hearing Re:Zero openings and endings for example. 🤌 *Chef's kiss*
I'm still disappointed that Give a Reason from Slayers Next didn't make it to top 100 :(
Domestic Girlfriend was just the vehicle for Crying for Rain lmao
I've had it on a song list since it came out, but had no idea it came from an anime for years, sooooo...yep!
That anime had no right to have a banger like that.
Please don’t bring your this brain damage anime again 😂 it’s a crime the op is a banger
Yeah, didn't even bother watching the anime
Minami supremacy
Wasnt expecting Chiki Chiki Bang Bang, based list Reddit
Frfr
I wasnt expecting it, but I was 100% there for it. I loved that op
Chiki Chiki Bang Bang was 2022's Bling Bang Bang Born after all, so that makes sense.
I'm the 1% that prefers the ED

No Crossing Fields was surprising to me.
Same. Also no pokemon, which I would argue is more popular than evangelion.
There's a top 100 list I saw someone react to before this video. That song is on it.
You raise an excellent point. Have....have they forgotten? o_O
True, no body even talks about it these days
Lisa just makes good music, also people really forget how popular SAO season 1 was
Some notable ones I’m suprised didn’t make the list:
- Renai Circulation (Monogatari)
- Rightfully (Goblin Slayer)
- Inferno (Fire Force)
- Kiminosei (Bunny-girl Senpai)
- Puzzle (Welcome to the NHK)
- My Dearest (Guilty Crown)
- ODDTAXI (Odd Taxi)
- Let Me Be With You (Chobits)
- Daten (Call of the Night)
rightfully is one of the most unique songs I've ever heard, absolute banger, also love the peggies and creepynuts other work!
Omg my god, My Dearest is such a classic
People gonna talk shit bout Guilty Crown but my god, Production I.G was so clean with the animation
What a giga chad you are
@@JamesonHuddleyes, i love Mili songs
I'm suprised Crossing Field (one of the earlier OPs for Sword Art Online) wasn't on either list.

Probably just editor's choice

You definately can never capture a DEFINITIVE list of all the goated anime songs because Its not only too subjective but you're always going to omit a lot of honorable mentions. And creating a personal list can feel impossible because there's too many goated anime songs to choose from. Not necessarily complaining because it goes to show how spoiled for choice we are. For what I can notice that's not represented, theres no Monogatari, no Death Note, no Hunter x Hunter, no Noragami, no One Punch Man, no Sailor Moon, no Nichijou, no Love is War, no SAO, no Overlord, no Haikyuu, no Odd Taxi, no Ouran, no Kyoto Animation in general, no Konosuba, etc. These are all very debatable whether or not they deserve to be top 25 OPs of all time but I'm just spitballing here. Tell me if I'm missing anything.
I was just about to complain
NGL, that's a pretty weird take. So you can't have a definitive list of any goated things ever because there's too many to mention? Based on your take, you can't create a best 25 anime of all time because there's too many to mention. You can't create a best 25 games of all time because there's too many to mention. Heck, you can't even create a best 25 football players of all time because there's too many to mention. No list is ever going to be "perfectly accurate", its just the accepted nature of things. People aren't going into these list to see what is "factually" the greatest anime song of all time, they are using it to know the general consensus or simply their own enjoyment.
I feel like there are a lot of S tier openings/endings, but there is still a SSS tier can be broken into. Personally, I'm only willing to put Genesis of Aquarion (Sōsei no Akuerion) up there so far (I know nothing of the show), even from everything that has been referenced so far.
And I'm only finding out now from the wiki that it was composed by Yoko Kanno.
Almost all of those anime you mentioned are in the full reddit list btw, it was ranked up to the top 100 but the video only shows their top 25
@@kieronkow4367 idk why you're saying it's a weird take. He's absolutely correct, and honestly, a lot of people in the comments need to hear it. People are expecting the list to line up perfectly with their own beliefs, but all it is is a general consensus. The list can be made but it's always gonna exclude things and it's worth mentioning that
Never thought that "Boruto'ed" would ever be a verb that exists. And I don't know I fully feel about that.
Bad. You feel bad about its existence. No need to overcomplicate it, just say you hate it.
Kickback is a legendary banger especially considering what Kenshi Yonezu's other songs sound like. I didn't know the twinky dude had it in him, shit's fucking amazing.
Every time I hear the beginning of "COLORS" I always think of "FLOW" from Eureka Seven because those songs sound SO SIMILAR
When ever I hear colors I think that worlds end is better
Well they were made by the same band lol
I think you mean Days. Flow is the band name
they sound nothing alike sorry
They sound a lot alike not sorry
Domestic Girlfriend's OP has it's own cult following, the OP bangs so it's not a surprise that most likely tons of people voted for it w/o watching and/or liking the anime lol
Ive been listening to that song for ages now because its an absolute banger, and I literally only just learned with this video that its the OP for something lmao
@@_Zekkensame here, minami represent
The reddit list's combo of recency bias (past ~2 years) with all-timers gave some heavy whiplash. Either way it was way better than the article
Yeah that article had some pristine JJK glazing
Kiznaiver's OP is an absolute (unappreciated) banger. 👌🏻
So just 'Take on me' by A-Ha, but japanese.
@kacperuminski1547 WTF I just relistened to it, and this is a stupidly accurate statement
When was it i cant seem to find the point in the Video and yhea Kiznaiver was an amazing Anime
It was the singers last song before he died of a brain tumor so every time I listen to it I wanna cry
I watched kisnaiver purely on the opening.
Every time I watched it I felt almost entranced by it, it was really good
Now I understand why 20 years ago I got yelled at for bringing up then recent game in "best of all time" conversation. Recency bias is too strong, I wouldn't be surprised if bunch of these recent songs get forgotten in like 10 years, while classics stay remembered.
They absolutely will.
Just out of curiosity, did the game you've brought up stay relevant for a decently long time or not?
What was the game though?
Beginning After The End is not a Korean manhwa. It's an English original novel with a webcomic adaptation.
And it's such a goated webcomic! Really hope it does end up getting an adaptation at some point.
@@wave1090are you up to date with it? Did it become better? I dropped it a while ago because the storyline became very sporadic and confusing (and also because I really dislike Tapas and couldn't find it anywhere else). Should I catch up on it?
@@antikovt I read the novels and I'm up to date with the webcomic (it just came back after a long break). The webcomic is just now starting the war, which is the best part of the novels imo. So yeah, it gets better.
@@antikovt Yesterday it started its 6th season (we were on a hiatus for almost 2 years)

People in the west may not realise but there are a lot more immigrants workers and political asylum seekers from South and Southeast Asia in Japan than westerners just living in Japan.
That's why this poll is a bit leaning toward SEA people.
The top foreigners in japan is like china, south korea, Philippines, and vietnam. Brazil is probably the most western on the top
Voltes V is literally one of the best Mecha anime ever. And I’m not even Filipino.
Its funny cause when I was working one day a co-worker asked if I played any games on the weekend and I mentioned I was playing a Super Robot Wars games and one of my main units was Voltes V, all the near by pilipino workers near by walked up and participated in the conversation. It was awesome, a 3 person convo turned into a 8+ convo lol
Still need more Mecha representation, especially playing SRW is all about listening to BGM other than animation and changed plot
@@TerdSmasher303 That's really cool.
The things you choose to watch everyday instead of FMA Brotherhood is crazy
FMA 2003 is better.
5:12 Let's pour one out for GG. He hasn't seen FMA:B. But "Again" is timeless, so, it will one day draw him in 😅
I heard the song "Idol" being played on speakers in ski resorts where people lined up for rope lift.
Honestly, as good as it is, it's starting to become "Let it go" levels of annoying with how overplayed it is. I don't want to listen to it for (10 years) the next few months at least.
@@mukundbalasubramanian1229 sort of like unravel, although for me it never got annoying
It’s pronounced Vohl-tes Five
It came out in the 70’s and is one of the very first local language translated animes. Basically it raised a couple of generations.
Its prounonced🤓☝️
Stfu no one cares about pronunciation
any Black Clover OP deserved to be atleast on the list, they so underrated!
True that, but unfortunately most folks didn't watch it far enough to see all those OPs.
Op 3 and Op 10 would both be in my top 10, such bangers🔥🔥
The reason "Ao no Sumika" is so high is because of how much of an emotion song it actually is. It's basically a goodbye from Gojo to Geto. That's why people LOVED that song. It's still a good song too. Idk why you're complaining.
Honestly, the recency bias might be getting to me but Ao no Sumika is also one of my all time favourite openings. When I looked up a video that had the lyrics on at the same time, I was a bit blown away by how good it is. Just knowing the words they use completely recontextualized the song for me.
@@anusaukko6792 even just the visuals are incredible man, I remembered Garnt taking shots about it being generic when it was doing so much that wasn't. it's squad shots were always moving, showing different interactions between the students and their dynamics in less than a second. Even the falling off the sky and climactic chorus action beat is taken up a notch by actually being relevant (fighting beside a building and fighting the star group) while not spoiling too much. Pair the incredible directing, visuals, and song, it's not even recency bias at that point.
Garnt defo underestimates Ao no Sumika, a lot of people like it cuz of the cozy, nostalgic vibes of summer and school, both in song and visuals. I might get flak for this but for modern fans, your "Jibun wo" is their "Ima demo"
So what I’m a spider outro goes hard af
Niche. I love the manga the best
outro made me read the LN lmao, didn't want to watch the anime after seeing the cgi
Ngl, kumo desu OP is actually bangers. The visual brought them down. The song itself is fire.
@@oofntthe ln are really good, aside from…. The last 3 vol, especially vol 16..it’s soo disappointing
@@Elaina-0416 I agree, still not really happy with the ending
Something interesting about this is, in terms of the classics, TANK! gets by with international audiences because, to my knowledge, there wasn't a different intro for those audiences. Cha-La Head Cha-La might have more happening except half the world knows Rock the Dragon instead, and Garnt already pointed out that it's just not Digimon unless we get told how they save the digital [world]. Some of those classics were different for us, man.

P.S. The top was good.
Hearing Garnt reading it "Volts V" instead of "Voltes Five" hurt my soul
Howling - Abingdon School Boys - Darker Than Black
Getting snubbed, as per usual
Kakusei heroism and tsuki akari are absolute bangers aswell. Happy that at last someone mentioned dtb
The lack of GTO or Darker than black OP/EDs is a crime
Chiki chiki ban ban is a banger tho

-Stand Proud isn't on it.
-Closes laptop
Invalid if Noragami isn't on the list
Yooooo! I just thought "list is wrong if Noragami isn't in the top 20."
Glad to see others are thinking the same thing
@diavolojaegar you like kids? drake?
@diavolojaegar use quotation marks for song titles if you want to prevent confusion
Guilty Grown OP - My Dearest is peak and underrated
The climax of the story was so horrible it ruined the greatest OP, OP2, and ED trio in anime history rip.
@@mustysmells817Even so it's one of my favs anime of all time. I absolutely adore the FMC.
guity crown had such amazing animation and soundtrack, guess it took all the budget from writing
@@williambrown3699 I'd wager needed to end within a certain number of episodes, even if the story is not ready for it. I'd say Darling and the Franxx experienced similar problems(I do think Darling's premise is a bit better, but ultimately the two both climaxed/ended really hastily).
This might be just a problem with original anime. It is just too expensive too extend, so they don't want to gamble. Whereas for adaptations, the book themselves are easy to extend so can go on however needed. The anime can just adapt however little/much it wants.
Not a problem for more slice of life stuff that can really end anywhere. But for stuff that are intended to have a central plotline, it is potentially problematic.
It's not underrated. Everyone loves it
As a anime boomer by peoples standards I think .hack sign and paranoid agent stick with me for OPs for some reason. Maybe they encapsulate the Y2k feeling of the early 2000s very well along with Lain.
That and the Fate opening (disillusion).
Paranoia agent opening is some ptsd triggering shit
I cannot listen to either the opening or ending of kino's journey without getting a boner in the nostalgia. It was probably one of the first 20-30 animes I ever watched, on the Israeli anime channel back when it was channel 29 on Yes!.
Bro .hack opening is so fucking good!! “Obsession” is the song name. The first opening for ghost in the shell stand alone complex is also goated!!
Paranoia Agent was memorable. GITS SAC also had a great opening.
I remember my grandmother telling me how my uncle used to sing a localized version of Voltes V no Uta.😂 That show is popular in SEA.
There's are some bangers in there I'd love to see lists by the decades
King GNU's Specialzs opening for Jujutsu Kaisen S2 fucking SLAMS SO HARD!!! It's easily my #1 opening song. I've just been listening to the song flat out on its own I like it so much and as a side note the music video for the song is wild.
"I know which Demon Slayer song this is, because it's the one by Lisa"
My man, Lisa did 3 songs for DS, 2 OPs and an ED. :D
Unironically solid list. Rare Reddit W
People have a comprehensibe bias against reddit but frankly it's a lot of the time leagues of shit like youtube comment section or freaking twitter. although it's very dependant on the sub we're talking about. r/anime specifically is filled with old timers of the medium and they are very well read, while simultaneously maintaining good weekly conversations of seasonals, if you want to find an old show or a airing one this is unironically one of the best place to go to for. In my experience r/manga and r/visualnovels are also pretty solid and offer good conversations on their respective medium.
@@pougetguillaume4632 Yeah, I run into opinionated but smart people on the subreddit. They can be stuck in their ways, but a bunch of them know what they are talking about. r/horror is also a solid subreddit, if you like that genre, but they can be very biased towards 80s horror movies.
@@thomasffrench3639 Yeah r/anime is chill. Sure there can be weirdos but that's not unique to the sub, or even Reddit as a whole - quirky people exist everywhere. It's also miles better than Twitter, at least in the sub-Reddit, most clear trolls and other horrible takes get downvoted to oblivion.
I don't really watch horror movies so I can't speak about them or r/horror, but I can see why they'd be biased towards 80's movies. The general opinion I've seen is that most recent horror movies are basically just slop... Though well, at the same time, the last horror movie I personally watched was one made in 2010's (The Cabin in the Woods) and I actually liked that a lot. Can't really name any good or otherwise liked horror films from the 2020's though.
@@pougetguillaume4632I remember when the live action bebop aired some idiot came in and said “bebop was never that good to begin with so why are people so upset?” On r/anime and I’ve never seen someone get ripped to shreds from an intellectual standpoint so quickly 😂😂. Multiple dissertation/thesis level breakdowns of why bebop is so highly regarded . I knew I was in the right place when I saw those responses lol
37:42 now we need to have people hurt for spoiling old movies/shows/books so no one can be spoiled.
I'm gonna call you out here Garnt, I really like Sung's kid. He's a cool dude that wants to protect his friends and not make trouble for his parents. Plus him and Beru's bond is fun as hell.
My boy literally has to fight through the entire series roster of villains every year or so. It reminds me of Bleach, but we know going in Ichigo's dad's backstory and thus aren't surprised that he's willing to force his son to struggle for his benefit and the people around him to be sure he's responsible.
Seeing my poll in a Gigguk video is cool shit.
I know why it wasn’t voted for, but Gundam Zeta and ZZ OPs should be on these lists.
Zeta OP 2 my beloved
You didn't realize since it said it in Kanji. But Mecha Ude also has Sawano on the team as well.
the Toaru Majutsu no Index OPs that Mami Kawada did are absolutely iconic to me, they get so slept on
The domestic girlfriend opening is the One who got me into anime songs and i haven't even watched the show yet
Cruel Angels Thesis is the Brotherhood of anime openings. It doesn't matter of others are better, it's undisputed that it's at the top.
Such great songs one after another though
Well brotherhood has been dethroned and still hasn’t returned. I’m actually impressed Frieren was so well received not even the fma bros have review bombed it
@@mookiestewart3776 Oh I don't mean in a literal sense lol I was thinking more it's a state of mind. Like even if other shows are better, it's still hard to ignore the legacy it holds and you'll always see it near the top of lists consistently.
I'm also surprised by that too though. I think that the Frieren hype will probably level out as seasons go on, but who really knows
@@mikeisfine yeah I think I could agree with that , but since I’m a manga reader I know what’s coming next season and it’s only going to gather more attention . I can tell you the writing doesn’t get worse whatsoever and the action is only going to get more absurd animation wise if they keep the same quality. The fights that go on in this next arc will make season 1 look like child’s play. And from what we can tell this studio really believes in this show. There’s also the fact that Frieren is ahead by so much now , 9.37 to FMA’s 9.09 . Thts almost a .20 difference which is GIGANTIC by MAL standards. Season 2 would have to be catastrophic to close that gap within the next 5 years or so , since Frieren s2 will come out within that time.
Lol, you mean it is the frieren of anime songs
@@kadeterockdriguez2377 Nah it's literally the opposite of the point I'm making. I'm saying that there are plenty Anime that are better than Brotherhood, but people hold it on a pedestal regardless of current competition and it's the same with Cruel Angels Thesis. They're both excellent, but when they're at the top of lists, personally I think it's mostly out of respect and not necessarily because people actually think they are the best
I really hope that Beginning after the End will get an anime adaption. The manhwa has a great story and world building
tq because of u i decide to check if the manhwa new chapter came out yet or not. new season baby!!!!
Would love some of these news updates to be a regular thing in the future
Voltes V was my childhood 🥺
Was fucking surprised it's actually on there given how old the series is but respect! That fucking trumpet line and final "VOLTESSS.... FIIIIIIIIVE!" scream still goes hard after several decades.
I watched it when I was older and it’s one of the best mecha shows I’ve seen.
Just out of curiosity, are you Indonesian, Pilipino, or Cuban?
Same
It wasn't part of my childhood, nor am I from anywhere it aired, but having gotten into mecha and super robots (along with SRW/SRT) has made me respect the old shows and the people that put so much passion into them.
It inspired so many awesome things and is a fun rabbit hole to discover
Cancelling the Yuri on Ice movie was probably for the best (for MAPPA as a studio). Fans have seen this coming for some time now....But that doesnt stop it from feeling like a slap in the face. 7 years of waiting just to get a shallow ass apology
The best apology would be to actually change their ways and stop being abusive fucks to their employees.
Still hoping that another studio will buy the rights.
I read many comments on how this anime changed someone life and as a die hard fan I was (and still am) heartbroken by the news.
And I was in so much shock to discover how they turned their back on the anime that literally saved MAPPA from bankruptcy.
I just want someone else that truly care about this film to pick the project and finally animate the whole thing.
If money is the problem all the fans around the world would literally sells their organs (me included) to watch the film.
@@MyVanir cant disagree with that one, my god my blood boils when reading through the shit theyve done
@@ale9608 yeah it truly is a bummer how the fans were left with the blue balls of the century. The fandom's still alive after years with nothin, that should count for something
I have my own list...
(Edit: Comment from before I watch)
Hoping to see "this game," again, and "only my railgun" on the list...
But I'm not that optimistic. Cruel Angel's Thesis is going yo be on here though, if its not, I'll be super surprised.

Funa fact: Voltes V became a cultural phenomenon in the Philippines because It resonated with audiences due to its themes and timing, Philippines was under the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos, who had declared Martial Law in 1972. It became a symbol of rebellion during the time and inspired people to revolt.

Thank you for this comment, I forgot about this banger. The show was actually really good too, I don't get how it flew so far under people's radar.
18:35 The last place I'd expect a VCT reference lmfao
Garnt you can’t complain every time you see a recency bias pick but applaud when it’s an OP from your generation lol
Why? If it's from our generation and it's in these lists, it reinforces that it is a banger that defies time.
Exactly. If it's still showing up, it's stood the test of time. An OP from the last few seasons still has the hype train going. If once all that hype has died down and people are still talking about JJK openings or whatever in 2034, then fine, they've earned their place.
Just started this. If Fighting Dreamers from Naruto isn't on the list, it is invalid.

Fist of north star - Ai o Torimodose
Gunsmith cats - ova opening
My favs I imagine they didnt make reddit list
Both lists had massive recency bias imo. But also, it is very hard to define "best of all time" for anime openings because nostalgia and emotional ties are a thing when it comes to music that appears in anime, movies, tv series and such.
KICK BACK by Kenshi Yonezu is a great song. It has earned the first-ever Gold-certified record by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the first and now only song written and performed in Japanese to be certified Gold. So, I didn't really surprised seeing the song at top 5 on the list, tbh.
